[Q] New 253 FW and doomkernel v06 - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello folks,
I have just installed the new 253 FW via PC Companion after relocking and restoring my TA partition via this wonderful tutorial and everything is smooth and perfect.
i'm planning to re-unlock my BL again to flash doomkernel which is very good in terms of battery life and performance (20+hrs regular uses/5hrs screen on time for me) and I was wondering if doomkernel v06 is compatible with the new 253 firmware?
thx in advance.

thought maybe someone already tried it and will reply here. just want to be on the safe side, that's all.
I don't like spending my time with trial and error and prefer to rely on others insights instead.

I'm not "enraged" so please don't take offense, but you could/should just try things instead of asking, it could have taken all of 5 minutes to find out yourself, or look in the kernel thread where it might already have been answered.

Guys.. Yes, it works as long as you have an unlocked boot loader. tested and confirmed.

I have a question, is it necessary to relock your bootloader before updating the firmware.

It most definately is not
& I can confirm that DoomKernel still works, both kernels are 4.1.2 based and there are no major changes (if any) between the 350 and 253 kernel.

Hello nice people of this forum, I've just got myself an Xperia V, running 9.0.1.D.0.10, and is looking for a method to root it without unlocking the bootloader.
I've tried googling it and searching the forums but came back empty. Perhaps some nice person can help me.

If you look in v android development there is an unsecure kernel, but this is for older firmware, maybe it works
Edit: you must unlock bootloader for custom kernel, i do not think bin4ry method works for newer firmwares

Hopefully the genius developers will come up with something soon. A little bothered by the bloatware from my provider.

Hi funiewski,
I have tried rooting by flashing that kernel but I don't seems to get root when I check with the root checker app. Would you be able to advise on this? I would have posted in that thread but apparently I don't have enough post count.

There may be a way to root without unlocked bootloader
Try this well-known way of rooting Xperia AX in Japan.
I guess it's also possible for V to root.
1. Here is a Xperia VL's old rom and you can flash this kernel.sin and system.sin with V's loader.sin.
I can't post the link, but you can find it in uploaded.net. The ID is 3gvvv3w6.
2. Then, Root.
3. Create /data/local.prop (ro.kernel.qemu=1).
4. Flash V's system.sin without wiping.
5. Replace ric, install Busybox and Superuser.
6. Flash V's kernel.sin without wiping.
7. Do Factory data reset to easily delete unnecessary apps.

currently the only way is to unlock your bootloader.
But you could try flashing the .140 stock kernel, rooting using bin4rys method, then flashing the .141 kernel back. I have heard people talk about that method but not heard anyone say it has been successful yet
so easy
i've got a tool
i can email to you

From the last threads, If I understand well, I guess the best method method is the following :
1- To come back to .140
2- To root it with Bin4ry's method
3- To install the .141 rooted and deodexed proposed by TiMiN8R
Am I right ?

The only difference I can think of is that with an unlocked bootloader you can flash custom ROMS, which can't be done otherwise.
Having said that, I would recommend Omnirom or CarbonRom, cm11 has a bug that drains battery on wifi.
