The new vp9 CODEC tecnology will be an improvement in data usage, and will be implemented in youtube this year
Google is reducing the difference between Mobile Chrome, PC Chrome and Tablet Chrome
New web platform payment feature makes it easier to fill out forms and shop on mobile.
[*]Google Play for education announced. Apps will start to be released in summer. Also chromebooks for education.
[*]Google+ introduces 41 new things: new stream, new hangout appand new picture experience.
[*]New "related hashtags". Google will analyze a post content and will add it's hashtags automatically with an image recognition system to make the user discover related content.
[*]Hangouts: a new conversation app from Google. (very very similar to whatsapp ) As I thought, Blackberry and WP are out. Just for android, ios and computers. It also has video chat, very similar to the ios facetime!
[*]Good combination of camera and cloud services
[*]Google will clean your photos in the cloud. Will select the best ones and delete the duplicates, blurry... etc ones. Amazing.
[*]Google introduces Picture enhance, to edit pictures automatically and correct them.
[*]Google introduces Awesome. Combine pictures to create animated ones.
[*]Google improves Speech engine. Now u talk to google as a friend, not with key words.
[*]Google Now: now you will be able to introduce remembers at the proper place at the proper time by saying them to google now.
[*]General improvements in Maps and Earth

So far not exiting. The s4 unveiling would lead me to believe no new update to software.
Also I'd assume that this was why LG got the nod for the nexus this time around. Samsung prob wants only to be known for its galaxy line.

Seems that not today, my friend...

Not looking good for an announcement of a new OS or the rumored "X Phone".
Lame...

This sucks....I was waiting for a long time for that Android 4.3 announcement. Crappiest Google IO ever. *sigh*

I was hoping Google would lessen the price of the N10 since it's sales have been slow at best.

Not physical proof.
But for what it's worth, I've read reports online that the N10 sales have been even less than the Surface.

really really sad! That key note was more than lame...

So that was it.. No 4.3, no new Nexus, etc. etc.

IOS already has the New Hangout. But not the Google Play Store? Something seems kinda wrong about that...

There were plenty of good things in I/O. Just not alot for users. They focused alot on Developers. No big surprise there.

Am I the only one that prefers the current look to the one of this screenshot?
This looks too cluttered, and frankly, the green was actually pretty nice.
Nah I like the current market too. It doesn't have content set out right though. It's just big lists of apps. So it desperately needs some kind of trending and advanced sorting like the website has.
And they also need to cut the crap out of there. So many rubbish apps. At least plunge them into the depths of search at the very bottom, so you don't have to see or deal with having to skip them.
I like the current too.. but when it comes down to it, everyone goes to this screen first. I'm sure this will lead to a lot more 'impulse' downloads, which they probably want.

Just because an app is published in a different language doesn't make it ****ty. Android is an international platform, after all. An optional filter would be helpful though, for those of us who can't read- and thus presumably can't use- apps without an English UI.

iOS 6

I, personally, was disappointed by Apple's iOS 6 release. I felt the os needed an entire revamp. From what I know about android everything apple did could have been done with app downloads. To me that should have been more of an incremental update rather than a whole new OS version. Do you all agree or disagree. Please let me know your thoughts.

Oh well i am staying on my jailbroken 5.0 ipod touch and using android.
Androids updates are nice cause they add a lot of new features where as apple mainly fixes old crap.
Android FTW obviously
- Maps w/ Flyover = Looks great
- Turn-By-Turn = At last?
- Updated Siri = Don't care, but i guess it's fun for the kids
- FB and Twitter integration = Don't care
- Passbook = Guess it's usefull for people in the US
Overall a couple of nice tweaks but nothing major. Apart from the FB/Twitter integration and other system tweaks, they could easily pushed this OTA.

Wow you guys.... Google is obviously about to do a major UI overhaul. They redid several things right before they released ICS (play store and the google search widget come immediately to mind). This is the same exact thing. They're not disregarding holo, these newer apps use a newer holo style. As for the drive widget, it's still just a dark gingerbread version.

I don't know about Google getting ready to do a major UI overhaul (again), that would firmly be in rumor territory, but it is true that different groups within Google lead development of different applications. GMail is handled by one group, the Drive application is handled by another, and so on. Some of those widgets haven't had their UI changed in a while, which is partially responsible. It is also true that not all of the Google applications follow an identical version of the design guidelines, which does lead to a little internal inconsistency.
That may partially be to show third party developers the different kinds of options they have, if intentional, or, if unintentional, might just be due to the disparate groups of developers at Google maintaining different applications separately. It may also be due to the very different purposes each of those widgets has, and what data, options, and features those widgets are meant to display. To be honest, it has never really bothered me personally, as the Holo theme is relatively flexible, aside from the heights. I do think the heights should follow the design a little more closely, since there is a guideline specifically for that.
Admittedly Google Music looks kinda cool, but outta place.
You will fall flat after seeing the music 5.0 app... Just like the redesigned market it has gotten a simpler ui and full white interface. Though background might change its a lot similar to Google now.
Music you own and suggested songs will seamlessly appear amidst each other. Lots of swipe gestures too. You can buy right off the app

There is "Holo Dark" just like the phone app & there is "Holo Light" like the contacts app
I think they should just let them user select-able in the next release just like windows phone and they should be applied to the holo system including the google apps
Holo is a set of guidelines. Not every app has to be the same color scheme. Some apps have new/interesting/experimental UI components, that's how they find out what works and what doesn't.

TechnoBuffalo reads it as KRS368 on the Nexus 7 and KRS365 on the N4, but I see it as KRS36B, which makes more sense since recent builds of Jelly Bean have a letter at the end of the build number.
Pretty interesting stuff. It's exciting to see that they already have it running on the devices. :good:

Android 4.4 KitKat official

Android 4.4 KitKat has been officially announced and as usual, the latest version of the Android OS debuts alongside the a new Nexus, the Nexus 5. So, what's new? Well, the 4.4 KitKat aims to reach the next 1 billion users and it will scale automatically to fit on the devices with as little as 512 MB of RAM.
The design of the OS has been polished and it looks better than ever. Android 4.4 brings a new phone app, which now helps you search across your contacts, nearby places or even through any other Google app accounts, right from your dialler app.
Google's new Hangout app comes out of the box on Android 4.4. It puts all your SMS and MMS under one roof along with other conversations and video calls so that you don't miss messages regard;ess of how they are sent.
The lock screen now has a camera shortcut and there is an option to rearrange the home screens to match your requirements. All devices without hardware keys now get extra room as the navigation interface disappears as soon as an app is launched.
As one can expect, the newest Android version brings a whole lot of new features for Google's search platform. You can now activate search with keywords and the speech recognition engine is about 25 percent more accurate than before, according to Google.
You can use the hotwords to launch voice search with the Google Now, send a text, get directions or even play a song. The upcoming version of the Google Now will bring new card types that keep you updated with contextual topics of interest to you.
Android 4.4's new framework allows you to AirPrint (a feature similar to wireless printing), which is however limited to HP printers only for now. The OS now supports third-party cloud storage in the Gallery app
Google aims to make Android accessible to everyone, even people with low-end hardware. In the past, due to the memory constraints, some lower-end smartphones couldn't get a taste of the newer Android versions, but with KitKat that's about to change. Android 4.4 KitKat removes unnecessary background services and reduces the memory consumption to a large extent, which now allows the OS to run smoothly even on devices with 512MB RAM. Ironically, the Galaxy Nexus with 1GB RAM will not get KitKat.
Google has also managed to enhance the battery performance through its sensor batching, which reduces the data requests. Lastly, Android 4.4 comes with under the hood tweaks and changes to enhance the overall performance of the OS.
Android 4.4 KitKat will be powering the newly launched Google Nexus 5 out of the box, while the roll out for the other Nexus devices will begin in the coming days.
