anything to move the community forward is a good thing, its just another tool. Looking forward to see what can be done with it.
It's actually very powerful and I can't wait until people jump on it. That being said, has anyone gotten Winterboard to work on their One? I can't seem to get it to recognize the Substrate installation.

Tried it on my evo shift and it did the same thing. Killed cydia substrate and winterboard, reopened and it worked fine

killed as in closed the two then ?, uninstall/reinstall, or ?
and would this be a fix permissions type of issue ...?
I just backed out of winterboard, ended them through task manager, and they worked fine since. This was a different device though so just hoping it clears it up for you too.

It is 100% safe to just uninstall the application: one of the goals of Substrate is to set up a system where no files on the device are modified, and where things that are added are guaranteed to be harmless (by being just symlinks to things that won't be there). However, this will leave behind four dangling symlinks; these are harmless and should take up only a few hundred bytes of storage on your device (really, just the filenames), but later versions of Substrate provide automated options for removing these links.

I've looked at alot of task killers nd system task management. But none of the apps I have tried really genuinely kill apps. The apps often 'recover' from being killed.
Im looking for a way to either permanently kill unwanted apps or kill the offenders at boot of device.
Hope someone has an idea.

Why do you need a task manager?
Check out this post, I read it, uninstalled my task manager and never looked back
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=678205&highlight=task+manager
I know this isn't the answer you were looking for, just my .02
A permanent way to kill unwanted app is uninstalling it. All the rest is described in the link given to you above.
What about stuff you can't install use adb thing I guess. Cheers

I was just browsing the /sdcard/ directory on my captivate and I noticed several directories belonging to applications that were previously uninstalled.
This reminds me of Windows where uninstalling a program leaves a little or a lot of junk behind (registry keys, dll, etc) depending on how poorly the uninstall routine was written.
Enter Revo Uninstaller which scans your hd looking for all that stuff that the program left behind.
Is there a similar app for Android?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Ya, i'm also looking any similar to this. Anyone help much appreciated.
Not that I know of. Bad part is, you must be rooted to delete most of that stuff. So the average user can have a ton of unwanted crap that only a factory reset will get rid of.
-Figured i needed a signature for my phone. This is it.
I know this is a very old thread but I am searching for this right now too, or does the build in installer of android also scan for left over files?

Nope, it leaves tons of crap behind. Folders that the apk created with all the junk the app put in them.

Do you know an alternative uninstaller which does not leave this junk behind?

Just download the file and put it on your sd card and then go into astro or any other file manager and install it. Works great! Make sure to set the space from the bottom setting to whatever fits with your lock screen.
I'm on VirusRom and I'm using:
Typeface: Serif
Font Size: Small
Space from bottom: Bottom Middle-High
It fits PERFECTLY. First picture is from receiving a call while in lock screen, second picture is receiving a call while using the phone while unlocked.
NOTE: You Don't Have To Be Rooted To Use This. Make Sure You Have Unknown Sources Checked Under Applications.
I think I remember when this guy got his app removed. Pretty sure it works well. Scan it with Privacy Blocker
Thanks OP
It's fine. I've used it in the past. And many others use it as well. Verizon must have not liked the dev hurting their profits.

OK Cool, thank you.

Wow thanks! My free trial just ended not too long ago and I love this app!

I believe it's 15 days or something like that. It used to be anyway. Then it will ask you to subscribe for like $2 a month.

Do you need to uninstall the trial version before you load this version?

P.S. Clear the CityID app cache and the trial restarts

HTC devices have a weird quirk that kept my injection system from working. I have designed an imperfect-but-at-least-quite-safe workaround for this issue, which will be deployed in the version of Substrate I will be releasing to the Play Store later tonight. I am sorry it caused you frustration .

I am also terribly sorry about the large number of "Frowny Pants" errors. This error message simply indicated "script failed to run for any possible reason"; honestly, I added that code in 2011, and kind of forgot it was there . This error message was removed soon after release, and replaced with a more powerful Script Failure reporting dialog, which has itself been improved over the last few releases. The script itself has been entirely rewritten (it is now a combination of native and Java code, entirely replacing attempting to use any shell commands to accomplish the installation goals).
cool

So anyone know how to get around Verizon's root check. I get the following message when trying to watch stuff we've bought using their media manager app.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Usually you rename the superuser.apk file to something else, like superuser.bk, but this also disables superuser. It would be something you switch every time you want to use the app, then switch back when you're done. Not sure if this works for that Verizon app, but it's how people have gotten around root checks before.

It's certainly one solution, but most Superuser apps have a temporary unroot feature that will take care of this for you, which can be a lot safer than monkeying around with your APKs if you don't know what you're doing. There are also some good apps out there that can hide an active root, although it's been some time since I've had to use them.
