Dictionary all messed up? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The stock dictionary on my HTC One seems to be all incorrect, System language is set to US English but when ever I type something, even if it is correct, it is correctly to another word.
"are" corrects to "ses"
"there" shows as incorrect spelling
"about" corrects to avoir
"engine" corrects to "engins"
It looks like it thinks somewhere it is in French but everything I am seeing says US English. Am I missing something?

Figured it out. The keyboard selection was not only selected for English but also Spanish and French.

Boring issue in more than one of the presented rom's

Hi all,
I have flashed some of the ROM's provided here and am seeing an issue which might not disturb many, but disturbs me.
I am a Dutch guy living in Russia, but not willing to accept either Russian or Dutch as a normal language. For me English is the only acceptable language for a ROM. On the other hand, numbers, currency, date and time are favourite to be "Dutch" again.
If I download a WWE or ENglish ROM (as I downloaded an Energy ROM now) I get the English language, so far so good.
But when I try to install the following format for numbers 1.000.000,00 (same for currency) I am told that the character to divide between full numbers or parts cannot be changed to "," or worse between each three digits I cannot place a ".".
Is there a way to change this in registry, so I can change this anyway, even if the regional setting does not allow this ?
Just to make sure You understand me, if I choose for Dutch regional settings, all looks fine, but Calendar or some programs are immediately "talking" Dutch to me, something I dislike again. Sunday should always be Sunday on computers (even if I do understand Zondag)
Any help would be appreciated.
Ruud
When you change to a non-English regional setting, like Dutch, it automatically changes the names of the months and days (and a few other related things) into the language for that region. That's what you're seeing. You can still keep those in English and get the other settings you want, but the settings have to be entered in manually.
To do this, start with one of the English regions that's closest to what you want. Then, you can change all of the other settings to what you expect. For the command/period problem with long numbers, you have to type in the command and period. They will not be in the drop down. Also, you'll need to adjust the order of month/day/year, etc. to what you expect it to be.
I just tried it on my phone to be sure it would work. For your reference, it should be exactly the same process to do it on your computer running Windows.
Also...
I don't know about anyone else, but I thought it was an interesting question. But that's probably just because I have to deal with localization and internationalization in my regular work.
Hello fenux,
thanks that my boring issue is interesting for somebody
But , this does not seem to solve the issue for me.
I have the Energy Rom at the moment I have chosen the Dutch regional settings, as they are what I need for numbers or at least I can change it to what I need.
As for testing your proposal I change the regional settings to English (United Kingdom) so I would get the Englisch language. I go to "numbers" and try to change the "," to a "." not by using the dropdown menu, but by using the keyboard instead. New character is not accepted. Tried to do the same through the software keyboard, same result.
Actually that was why I asked if I can change such in the registry somewhere.
Any more ideas maybe ?
Regards,
Ruud
I'm not sure why it's not letting you change them. I did find this page (http://www.pcoperative.com/ppc/registry_tweaks.htm#Override Date & Time Format) which includes some of the information on where the override information is stored. But it doesn't include changing the decimal and thousands separator.
Here are the settings for those, taken from my registry after I overrode them:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls\overrides]
; Decimal for normal numbers
"SDeci":","
; Digit grouping (thousands) for normal numbers
"SThsn":"."
; And for currency
"SMDcS":","
"SMThS":"."
Hi fenux,
interesting information, I will play around with those. It is visible that some of those strings are not available after chosing a certian regional setting, but I can add them. I will see if I can get to solve my issue with this.
Yes, this looks perfect on first try, thank You VERY much.
regards,
Ruud
Now if You can answer me another question: what is the most stable and fastest ROM around here, I really need it.
I've had good luck with the 21885/Sense 2.1 version of EnergyROM (not as many extras as the other versions, but it's stable and fast). I'm working on my own that fits my needs a little better, but it's nowhere near ready for public use.
Hi fenux,
I am sorry if unclear, but that last sentence was supposed to be more of a joke.
But of course thanks for the answer anyway.
When I downloaded the Energy I made some mistake and took the 28011 instead. When I tried to download the other I was made to understand that there is a time limit, so I did not bother anymore. I like the ROM itself, very nice, but am actually downloading the 21885 at the moment. Reason is that my AlarmMaster 2.0 does not work anymore, as soon as an alarm is supposed to ring, the display is being switched on and the program hangs. The program is too important to me, so I have to change here.
This was my line before editing : I very much like the Action and OK button on the lower part of the screen, so I use the Sense 2,5 version.
But : after a succesfull flash I noticed that actually that ROM does not include the Action and OK buttons below. It also does not have any issue with the regional settings at all. I will continue to install all programs (as I lack time for playing) and hope / presume this ROM to be stable.
Thanks again.

Cannot change language in i9000 (may have been dishonestly sold a i9000)

Dear all,
Today I received my first Android 'phone, but sadly I suspect that I have been ripped off. I know that this is not a Android development related question, but I cannot think of anywhere else to ask, and searching the web yielded no results.
The company sold me one that has the language in Portuguese, which is a sham because I am the Netherlands. The company is in the Netherlands as well. ( studentenmobile.nl).
Is it possible to change the language, at least into English?
I cannot work the 'phone at present because I don't understand what is written, at all Nor do I know where to go. I think that English might be available on it because there were two instruction booklets: One in English and one in Portuguese, but this does not mean that any language other than Portuguese is available.
I would be grateful for any help.
PS. No, the company won't take it back, because I they did not state that the 'phone language was not in Dutch, nor that it was in Dutch. The same for English. Stupid of me not to ask.
On my phone change the language here:
On the main screen, press the menu button.
Press the 'gear' - this is settings in english.
Then you are in the settings list. The 10th line on my phone has a white square with a black A in it. It is called 'Locate and text'.
Tap that, and the topmost option is 'Select locale'. Tap that.
Now a list pof countries appears. It should have 'Nederlands' written there.
BUT I think the phone would have done that the moment it noticed a Dutch SIM card. Perhaps it doesn't with some pre paid cards.
If the phone does not offer 'Nederlands' you have indeed been cheated, and the company should arrange for an exchange or return of money.
Do not fall for the normal right of return, as they can hold on your money for 30 days, but insist on a quicker solution as this product is broken, as it does not conform to what a Dutch buyer expects.
A steady wave of relief has just passed through my head (although perceived as being centred in the chest).
I have changed the language. There is a pretty long list of languages there. Although I read Nederlands (NL) and Nederlands (Belgie), yet there was only French (FR) and French (CH), which is strange. I expected it to also have French (BE).
Anyway, thanks a million.
I did not have a SIM card in it, which is why it did not take the language settings from it.

[Q] Sticky language settings?

Am I the only one that's annoyed by the issue that the 2x does not want to save the language settings you have chosen for it?.
When I first got it I selected English(UK) as the language. But everytime I put in a DK sim it automatically defaults to danish language. And I find that rather annoying, because if I wanted danish I would have selected Danish from the start.
But is there a way to basically tell the phone to STAY English and only switch language if I tell it to, or does a hard reset?. I could on my HTC and it didn't change even if i changed SIM.
Please tell me that LG hasn't been so damn daft as to not make it able to its users to "lock" the language.

If you install the attached does it make you selection stick?
I'm not sure it will survive a sim change though...
Well what I need is for the phone to actually keep its language setting regardless of what kind of SIM i insert in it. Ie I have selected English UK, then I want the phone to use that language, and not just automatically switch to danish when I insert another danish sim.

I haven't had to chance to test it yet. But the problem is not that it changes language on reboot.
Its when I am changing SIM's I am hving the issue, and you said yourself that it might not work when changing SIM's.
But I will give it a test in a short bit.
If you change your sim, don't you have to set up all your accounts again anyway?
I don't. I have changed SIM's 3-4 times in my HTC Desire when I still had it and it retained all the information. Even the language setting was retained when I moved the SIM.
Only the LG won't do that, but hopefully the App you linked might fix that.

[Q] Operator text <yyyyy> added

Hi!
I have problems with ROM version 1.69.401.01 - and its descendants (e.g.: Custom ROM by ansar) - that it displays my operator text and than adds five "y"s at the end. If I flash other ROM this is displayed correctly. No update has effect on this.
Real OP name is "T-Mobile H" and it is displayed as "T-Mobile Hyyyyy".
Can anyone give me some info on this? How the name is determined or is there a way to customize it?
Thank you,
Cina.
Same here, got "PLAYyyyyyyyyy" and "ORANGEyyyyyyyy"
Anyone? Must be a stack problem...

No change.
Did you change the right value? The last two should be set to English (United States). Reboot the phone afterwards

My bad. You were right. I've just changed the locale (second option) not the last two. It works. If I change back everything to Hungarian it gives back all my y's. I wonder if it is based on a registry entry or similar...
Thanks anyway,
Cina.
just leave it like this , I couldnĀ“t find any difference between these settings that should have dramatic impact on the phone.

[Q] S3 LTE input language resetting issue...

Hi guys!
I have the S3 LTE (GT-I9305) and it's on Android 4.1.2 Build Number JZO54K.I9305XXBLL5
Now I don't remember how the phone behaved earlier (before the last updates), but my issue is this: I have set as input languages English, German and Serbian. But whenever I reset the phone (or turn it off and on) - and wanna write something, all languages dissapear from the keyboard and there is only english left. BUT - when I go to the keyboard settings, under "input language" all the languages I want are checked, and the phone then says "updating" and "no languages added" (or something), and when I go back to writing, all languages are there... until I reset the phone and have to do it all again... Does anybody know anything about the issue? And yes, I am using the Samsung keyboard.
Thanks!
Jupp same here...English and German, same Samsung Stock rom and same behaviour...ie after boot no add. languages...click options > input languages and then a little message appears "updated" and back out and I can change the languages via the spacebar...strange didn't actually notice until you told me...
