So I've had a Motorola Atrix 2 for a long while now, and I've been eyeing a new phone.
I considered the S3 & 4, and Note 2. However, I absolutely love my N7, and the price of the N4 was insanely better than the others.
I don't do a lot of modding etc, but my A2 is running a custom ROM that makes it a lot like the N4. It has flash functioning on it, and the mobile hot spot. I use Straight Talk.
I have my A2 set up exactly like I want it so, I guess my question is thus: Is there a way to copy most of my settings/applications/etc over to the N4?
I know the N4 comes carrier unlocked, but I'm assuming I'll still have to root it?
Also, I plan on gifting the A2 to my wife. How can I clear the personal data, but not any of the settings, the ROM, or applications?

I think u messed up your title it says n7 not n⁴.
Yes u will have to root it and unlock the bootloader. Just reflash your ROM and u will get rid of the data and personal information but keep your apps.

Edited title.
I didn't really wanna reflash from the ROM. There are a lot of settings I've tweaked that I like, and I had to do some fix to make the mobile hot spot work on my provider. I'm thinking a reflash would clear all that.
I just need to basically unsync my Google account from it, and sync a different one. Is that possible/easy, or should I just bite the bullet and reflash?

You should just be able to delete your Google account, it may require a factory reset but that should not affect tweaks you have done to the ROM, just will remove any apps that you added after install.

Gave it some more thought and you will probably lose settings back to default with a factory reset so hope you are able to accomplish what you intended by deleting the Google account. I thinking forces a factory reset doing that tho. Might be able to get around having to do a reset by adding the second Google account first then delete yours.

Bought the 16gb from Walmart. $249. Too bad I won't be able to play with it much at work. But looks pretty cool so far. Going to root it tonight when I get home and flash a new ROM. I have 15 days to see if its worth the money.

I don't feel it's necessary to install a different ROM at this point. The kernel is where you want to tweak this device. Also keep in mind that they will not accept a rooted and flashed Nexus 7 if you want to return it, which I highly doubt btw

I returned mine to Walmart rooted unlocked. I'm pretty sure they haven't an idea what root is plus when I bought it the person didn't even know what a nexus was
I didn't think the good people at Walmart would notice if I did all that. Just a hunch. But hopefully I get to keep it.

There is a file that needs to be renamed to .bak in system/ boot recovery something .. if you do not rename that to .bak you will not be able to boot up custom recovery. You tube droid modern x saved my ass last night fought it for over a hour. Running eclipse on it now

root isnt about stuff lacking on your device. root is about having administrative control of your device. it just happens that you can add thing that are lacking, with root. but you dont necessarily need root to add things that are lacking. you can flash roms and kernels without root as long as you have a custom recovery(you dont need root to have a custom recovery and to flash roms/kernels).

Does it truly mount the storage device though, I.e. so its like having a SD card, content appearing in stock apps etc?
Since rooting this device or returning to stock is so unbelievably easy done it just to use stick mount

plenty of users have done that. plus google condone rooting, they even made the stock ROM public so users can reflash to original.

Nevermind.
I did buy a nexus 4, what can I say I've always wanted a nexus phone and I was irritated when the galaxy Nexus was put on the play store just a day or 2 after my 30 day return Window was closed on my Vivid. However after lots of thought, I decided screw it, might as well keep the Vivid, a good backup phone, and resale value isn't the best anyway, and I regretted selling off the Captivates when I got the Vivids for me and my wife. So I'm not going anywhere, looking forward to the finished product!
Also eta is 5-6 weeks so I'll be using the Vivid quite a bit longer.

So what's the difference between pacman and the other 2 or 3 jb roms that are here?
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
IIRC you'd need to flash the boot.img again for rom you want to restore if it uses different kernel.
davebegue said:
I think pac man is like phandroid and aokp combined? Not sure though. Hey any tips on restoring a nandroid... If I flash the pac man one, and then want to go back to my nandroid - does it restore the old kernel/boot.img or should I flash the old boot.img before or after restoring the old nandroid? I am s-on. Skeered o wires

Since you're S-On, you'll need to reflash boot.img manually. If you were s-off, you can nandroid backup your boot partition, and it will restore as well, but not when you're s-off. You can backup your boot partition, but it won't restore.
ParanoidAndroid introduces Tablet and Phablet modes, as well as per-app DPI and per-app coloring
AOKP adds customizations for the UI, nav bar, lock screen, power menu, etc

An idea I've been kicking around for a couple months now. I finally accepted that I won't ever own a computer or laptop. I despise my Note 2, the only thing keeping me on it is LTE, obviously the 7 lacks. But a larger screen is something I keep wanting more and more. The only other problem is the worrying dependency on GV in order to make it work.
Very nice article.
I don't think the Nexus 7 will fit in my pockets, and also, Google Voice isn't free in my country and isn't really supported, so I prefer my regular Galaxy Ace for the outside, and the Nexus 7 for the inside .
I use mine as a wifi phone with the groove IP app, when my phone goes dead.

Odexed is pure stock. More difficult to mod unless the dev puts out both versions. It is supposedly faster also. Never could tell a difference in speed. But I like to stay close to stock so I always run odexed and odex all of my work. Deodexed is good for modding and theming since you only have to do things once. It is also a little smaller in size. Again supposedly a little slower, like starting apps. Also more difficult to get things working right at times. Like Google Wallet working on my Odexed Rom but not on Deodexed.
I am sure if you Google them you will find much better answers than what I have provided.

This bloody thing didn't save anything really, just annoyed me by turning off things i set to autosync and etc. Used to use it on my S3 when it first leaked months ago and broomed it fast when i noticed i wasn't receiving emails and such anymore. Apparently it turns off what it "thinks" is not necessary, like email accounts i set to check every hour. After a few days of no email, which i found weird, i went into my email settings and this silly app had turned off sync and set it to manual amongst other annoyances. I never really noticed any battery savings anyway.
