[Q] Wifi problem on original N7000 - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
today i received my N7000 which i bought on ebay. Everything is working fine except the wifi. i can not find any networks at all, even sitting next to my wifi-router. On the other side when i activate the mobile hotspot option i can brows the web using my ipad and connecting through the Galaxy Note.
I already tried factory reset in recovery mode several times, but nothing changed. i guess its more a software bug, than a hardware issue?
The system is running
Android version 4.1.2
Basebandversion N7000XXLSO
Kernel 3.0.31 -906407
[email protected] #3
SMP PREEMPT Thu Feb 14 02:26:43 KST 2013
Buildnumber JZO54K.N7000XXLSZ
I would be very happy if someone knows how to fix this problem
Thanks in advance,
laccox

1. go to sammobile.com and download latest firmware
2. search and install odin on your laptop/pc
3. do a wipe data factory reset and wipe cache from recovery
4. flash the rom by putting .tar.md5 file in pda section of odin

How important is it to select the right country/carrier?

not much..select any one.. they are all the same except the bloatware..

Ok now i tried to flash it, but i still have the same problem. i found out that somtimes i'm able to visualize some wifi networks and if im lucky also to connect to one, but it loses the connection after aproximately 1 minute and then all networks are offline again...
so i think it is more a hardware problem and the seller (ebay) is not answering to my requests anymore, so i guess he knew about this and wanted to rip me off by saying the phone is like new!

My gnote issue

hey all,
i'm new to the forums here at xda-developers but i'm in ire need of some advice/help if you would not mind sharing your experience.
Okay the issue.
I have a galaxy note gt-n7000, it will not update via kies or via the phone itself at all for months. I'm from England and i purchased it on contract from carphone warehouse; some vital information about the phone are as follows:
Android version - 2.3.6
Baseband version - N7000XXLPT
Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-N7000LA6-CL907341 [email protected] #2
Build bumber - GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
CSC - XEU
I have tried several things to fix this such as:
Factory restting everything - the sd card, the phone... No eval.
Attempting to change the CSC to a different one from XEU
Waiting to see if any more updates are as followed
reconnecting/rebotting my phone to ensure the connection is okay to Kies
Another issue of this phone is that it will not download anything from the website such as bus timetable PPFs in which it used to be beforehand, i am completely stumped by it
thanks for your time to read this and hopefully help,
Nozz.
P.S I don't really want to root my phone cause my warranty will void otherwise.
have you updated the kies? use latest version of kies to update it should work.
Since youre factory resetting, i presume you dont care for any data loss... You can go to recovery (turn off phone then press and hold volume up+power+home until the phone turns on) then do the factory reset there... (this is not touch interface.. You have to use volume buttons and the power button to select your option):highfive:
I entrust you to do this since you said youre running 2.3.6 but DONT DO THIS if you manage to get to Ice cream sandwich!!! We can never stop reminding people of this... DONT EVEN DARE to factory reset under settings on a stock Ice cream sandwich n7000..

Yeah, according to Kies it is the updated version, and i also updated a galaxy s2 with it to ICS the other day...
Will going into recovery mode then factory resetting it work ?
thanks for your help,
Nozz.
Just factory resetted it, and once again it is coming up with it saying it is not possible tp update Via Kies :/
And Kies is fully updated
Also another thing i forgot to mention, the phone wants an update has it says new firmware is available through downloading from the phone then installing that way, however when i try this, it all goes okay, reboots, comes up with the little andriod symbol then it stops at roughly 20%, reboots and says it was unsuccessful, try updating via samsung kies.
thinking of just getting rid of it, but it's a contract.... Sigh.
nozz.
somebody made a program that you can use instead of KIES, it is called Checkfus.
google for it, or search the forum, i am sure you will find it.

Hi there,
I would suggest not to update more on Kies as Kies sometimes KIES(OTA OR the PC one) is quite not more reliable sometimes, sometimes you can upgrade sometimes you can't.(Just like a woman on her monthly periods )
Anyway, I would you recommend by just flashing it thru PC ODIN. Download your stock ICS software from this page -> www.samfirmware.com and look for the firmware on your region. Flash it and you should be good to go.
:good:
i'm quite new to flashing phones, i've flashed computer motherboard bios, but i can get inside them and change the mobo if it goes wrong however i cannot do that with a phone :/
Which one is safe for my phone, considering it's current build etc?
Advice would be appreciated.
I can't seem to find firmware that is suited for my PDA, CSC and Phone codes... Or will any UK firmware work?
Nozz.

Here you go bud ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 (courtesy of Doc Ketan, of course)
If you narrow down a bit, there's a firmware for UK there(Carphone Warehouse to be exact)
According to CheckFus there is no such ICS update for my specific phone, aka pda/phone/csc.... hmm... and also i can't seem to find any roms for my specific phone either...
I really don't know what to do now
Could someone take alook at my numbers in my first post and help me, as i'm pretty much at the end of my tether with this phone
i'll relist my phones information:
PDA: N7000XXLA6
PHONE: N7000XXLPT
CSC: N7000XEULP4
Build Info: Friday, January 20 05:38:08 KST 2012
That build info looks slightly dodgy considering this is supposed to uk phone, and i'm pretty sure UK gingerbread didn't come out at that point... hmmm.. got me thinking.
anyhow
Thanks,

[Q] Network Signal Crashing

Hi all,
I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I have had for a while. Fairly frequently, my network drops out, for example when receiving calls or trying to make calls. This often happens multiple times in a row (that is, I have to try 5 or so times to make a call, as the network keeps dropping out).
I have searched around and believe that it is the RIL that keeps crashing, although I’m not sure what to do about it.
Phone information:
Model Number: GT-N7000
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: N7000XXLA4
Kernel version: 3.0.15-1068447 [email protected] #3SMP PREEMPT Tue Aug 28 16:14:38 KST 2012
Build Number: IMM76D.XXLRT
Originally I flashed an AU GB rom via PC Odin, and then performed a full wipe. I then flashed LRQ via PC Odin, and updated OTA to LRT. I experienced this problem while on LRT, so I flashed the modem contained in the Australian GB rom for my network provider (Optus), but this did not fix the problem. I have experienced this problem on other ROMs in the past, but cannot provide details about the specific ones I tried.
I live in Australia and am on the Optus network.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to prevent my network signal dropping off frequently when making/receiving calls?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. I just flashed LRK, because I had it on my computer. It seems to be working fine now, but I'll have to try it out for a bit. I'm not certain this will fix the issue as this modem was bundled with the LRQ ROM I flashed initially, with which I experienced this problem.
If it doesn't work out, I will flash LR1 and get back to you.
Thanks again for your help.
Any other suggestions?
I haven't had the opportunity to keep testing the changes yet. Is it safe to assume that the problem is caused purely by the modem, or are there other changes I can make to try and fix it?
Is there a way to check whether the RIL and modem match on my phone?
Thanks

[Q] Updating to JellyBean via Kies / PC Odin / CWM

I have a GT-N7000 Galaxy Note which I won in a competition in the UK from Samsung, so it was already unlocked when I got it and can put in any SIM Card I want into it.
It originally came with Gingerbread - I've updated so that the phone is now rooted and currently has android 4.0.4
I want to upgrade to Jellybean but I'm confused by all the various ways there seem to be to update it.
At present I have totally reset the phone and installed Kies on my PC (windows 7 32bit)
When I connect the phone Kies says there is an upgrade
CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION : PDA:LRQ / PHONE:LRK / CSC:LRQ(DBT)
LATEST FIRMWARE VERSION: PDA:LSZ / PHONE:LSO / CSC:LSZ(DBT)
I'm kinda scared to do an official firmware upgrade because the last time I tried an OTA update it failed although nothing bad seemed to happen to my phone but I'm really scared of bricking it.
If I use Kies do I loose root?
Do I need to worry about not being on an original Samsung Kernel?
Also I installed several mobile phone tracking software such as Prey Project to my phone - so I'm not 100% sure if it's still there or not after resetting. I can't seem to see any trace of it on the various screens.
Is KIES the safest way to upgrade to JellyBean?
The current state of my phone is full reset (also wiped the USB Storage and SD Card) and as follows:
Android 4.0.4
Baseband
N7000XXLRK
Kernel Version
3.0.15

No, it is not the best to do a upgrade is pc odin after factory reseting the phone on a safe kernel as you are on speedmod it is safe
Just follow this guide. This should be appropriate to upgrade to JB http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2156242

I would say kies will be the official way to do it ..
I'm a little worried about upgrading via a cable from my PC to the phone in-case I loose the connection
I was having trouble last night simply copying files from the phone to the PC via a datacable
it kept disconnecting after a few seconds.
At first I thought it was software on my phone that was the issue but even after resetting the phone to factory default setting I still got disconnections.
Then I went through my PC and removed any possible causes of problems such as firewall software, antivirus, etc
I only reinstalled windows on my PC a few days ago so there's not much software on the PC but I did remove USB software for my Motorola Phone and I think that's helped. The connection seems a lot more stable now. But doing something as sensitive as a firmware update worries me.
Removing windows software isn't an issue as I've ordered more RAM for my PC to take it up to 8GB and will have to re-install a 64 Bit version of Windows anyway to make use of the extra RAM.
I did come across this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2023907
The file named
ThaiDai_Small_XXLSZ_v1.0_MD5_12395d7c826d3cad45e9e b1e57f9e2a9.zip
Looks appealing because it seems to be a stock ROM but with a lot of Bloatware removed that I wouldn't want anyways.
Is this a good and safe option compared to using PC Odin?
The version of ClockworkMod on my phone is v5.8.1.8
What's the kernel?
That rom is good also there is one by eybee too. Full stock.
I did find this video which seems to show how to use PC Odin really well
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g27BZ6qj-t0

keep losing data, is there a baseband update?

For a while now my galaxy note has been losing mobile internet.
Ive noticed that data just stops working, sometimes i will lose the letter indicator is (H or 3G) but i can still make calls. Other times the indicator will still be there but data wont work. This happens maybe once every couple of days
I know its not the rom as it happened when i used slimbean and also happens on cyanogenmod.
I know its not the carrier as it happened when i was with T Mobile up until last month. Im on Three now and it does it just as much.
to rectify it i have to either switch off data then back on, if this doesnt work, i try aeroplane mode, if thise doesnt work i have to reboot the phone. If i reboot then data comes back straight away.
I wondered if an upgrade to the baseband would help. im on N7000XXLT3. my phone is unbranded and unlocked and was originally on TMobile when purchased.
I found this article:
http://androidromupdate.com/2013/07...xxlt9-landed-in-uk-samsung-galaxy-note-n7000/
which states
Select the exact stock firmware file according to your country of origin.

[Q] Unable to connect to mobile network after failed flash.

So trying to put CyanogenMod onto my phone, I haven't been able to use it for a while because all I had was a black screen. Late last year, I manage to get it up and running again. Everything worked fine until an hour after flashing the stock ROM onto my phone, the connection to the Mobile network disappears. I flash the phone again and the mobile network connection is only temporary. Anywhere between 20 mins to 3 hours. The phone can't scan for any mobile networks at all. Everything else seems to work fine but what's the point of a phone that doesn't make calls?
Any ideas or additional information you guys need to get this cellular-less cellphone working again?

Hey,
My Z1 has also been having a mobile connection issue for a while now.
Scans for networks, finds some of them, but cannot connect to any.
Flashed every stock F/W i could find, tried several working SIM cards, did a TA restore.
A few days ago I replaced the chip with the speaker, radio and antenas on it ( 13 $ from china ).
nothing.
Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks guys

You both try first to restore TA and relock your phone. then reflash stock .157 FTF. Or maybe, flash a custom kernel that match to the current FW you are running. if it is based on .157, look for custom kernel that runs at .157
yes, dear tried all the flashing, TA and custom kernel crap. got fed up with it already
I never went outside stock firmware, tho. I saw that OP was trying CM before it happened.
and my phone used to be carrier locked, but I unlocked it with a code about 2 years ago. Could that be acting up? I am not familiar with the low-level stuff
Yep... I did all that flashing too. All started with that failed CM flash.
Sounds like a failed modem flash or baseband

Normally it would, if you choose a Pure Stock (with no additional stuffs). i experience it also one time. I was on LB then installed the ParanoidAndroid (CM Based ROM) then i lose my network. i just relock my BL, flash the custom kernel.

Hey man, sorry i forgot to read my own comment about flashing the FTF. Can you try to insert another SIM in your phone? or inserting your SIM to another phone? (Maybe your network provider has the problem?) Have you tried also using the PC Companion? or the Flashtool for Xperia? though you need to unlock your phone if your gonna use the Flashtool for Xperia, but you can relock it later.
Let's try to do anything we can do before you let go some of your cash.

Good ideas, bro Sadly i tried all of them ( except Flashtool for Xperia, since my bootloader is not unlockable ). Several SIM cards, various operators in 2 countries. As I mentioned in my first post, I even went as far as ordering a new radio unit ( a chip that houses the speaker and radio + two antenas ) and swapping it in. Did all possible factory resets. retored TA ( even tho my IMEI and Baseband show up ok ).
2 years ago when I had to carrier unlock my phone, I did it with a code and it worked alright for a very long time. This is the only thing I can think of that might be wrong with it, but I tried a SIM card from the operator it was originally locked for and its the same.
It detects the SIM card, it scans for networks normally, but when I try to connect manually to a network it says "unable to connect to network, check if sim card is in or you are allowed bla bla" . Automatic network selection gives no result
