Hi I need help from one of you ROM GURUS out there
Basically I was on JB ROM 4.2.2.
I rebooted into recovery, did a full wipe and did restore of stock GB (saved on my SD card)
I now know you cannot go back to GB from JB just by just doing backup and restore
My phone now stays on Samsung S start up logo...I can go into CWM but it is as see pic!! corrupted!
Now I think this is caused by a file system error in that gingerbread uses a different format,

I found out that:
"Flash any gingerbread Samsung firmware with odin which have all 4 files pit, modem, csc and code .
Make sure you tick re-partition before flashing and also make sure u flash the right file at right place"
Please point me in the right place to get this firmware and do this right and not brick it, it goes into download mode fine by the way,
Thanks in advance.
I need step by step instructions please!

Cant download this file. it does not work...http://d-h.st/4nP
1. Download the GB Flash KIT which includes the following (XXJW5 2.3.6 GB ROM, PIT file, CF-Root Kernel for Odin, Odin3-v1.85 and Samsung Driver) : http://d-h.st/4nP
Search this forum for the how to flag stock 2.3.6 value pack tutorial and follow the steps and you should be fixed

Go into download mode and flash stock jvu with Odin then flash custom kernel and you will have GB boot loaders back on and should be able to restore your phone to what you were originally trying to do when you left jb. Good luck! I've also had this error plenty of times and not just from flashing back to GB but from other things as well.

well. it was running on F1 SGSII V7. i had converted it to ext4. although it displayed all file systems in ext4, i got the msg that it is not working properly.
today i wanted to try out Cyanogenmod7.1. so i downloaded both cyanogenmod zip file and google apps file. went to CWMrecovery and took a backup. rebooted the phone to change filesystems to rfs. when i clicked ext4 to rfs , it booted to CWM and the phone restarted. so i checked the file systems and still it was ext4. i got confused and decided to install cyanogenmod either way.
so i got in to recovery and formated data, system and cache. and i also had the phone factory reset through CWM. next it displayed this.

when i open the phone in normal mode it stucks at galaxian kernel boot image.
i cant do anything through CWM. so i decided to test downloading mode. it worked. but when i plug the usb to my phone it says device not recognized. i have removed usb drivers ,restarted and again installed latest usb drivers. still its not been recognized. i used odin3 v1.82.
so could u experts tell me whether my phone is (soft/hard) bricked or not. and whether is recoverable or not. and what should i do at this point. thank you!
ps. i m newbie at this rooting flashing stuff.
Glad to see this much information in a post...
Its a soft brick but more complicated one...
Did you make a nandroid backup, can you use it? (i dont understand what you mean by you cant use CWM, can you not get into recovery, or nothing you do works?)
Before you plugged you phone in did you go into task manager and close all kies applications?
Have you truied another version of odin?
Have you tried another computer?
Those are both questions and suggestions
Btw next time if you confused about something dont do it, as something will go wrong like it did. Also always take a backup from recovery before you do anything to it.
Also you can try heimdall...
let us know how it goes
I have had same prob, its a soft brick. Don't worry. Do a ODIN flash to stock rom, then flash a custom kernel (as PDA) and u will be good to use CWM to restore ur backup. It worked fine for me (many times , I'm a flashaholic) .
Good luck
thank you both of you guys. odin worked in another pc.. thank you once again

Thank you very very much! You've saved me! I've flashed stock rom, then Semaphore kernel and restored backup, all is fine and working!
I installed CM7 on my Galaxy S and decided I wanted to go back to my stock ROM so I thought I'd restore my old backup of the ROM..BIG MISTAKE..
I can get in to download mode and recovery mode, but I see the following in recovery mode.
E:unknown volume for path [/data]
E:unknown volume for path [/data]
E:unable process volume! Skipping...
Checking /cache
etc
e:Can't mount volume for path [/cache/recovery/command]
So my plan is to recover the phone using Odin and Stock ROM but I'm unsure what stock rom to use? I have a UK galaxy S which was on T-mobile.
Check it out yourself mate...

Nice one mate - that was exactly what I was after.
For a clean and safe flash from CM7
Make sure you have a 3 files stock rom and 512pit file and to tick re paretition when you flash.

the latest and by far the best to date is JVT. Having been running dozens of custom roms for months including cm7 (twice) I've been using stock JVT with semaphore 1.8 for weeks now. endless screen scrolling, stable, quick, clean...can't even be bothered to convert from RFS...simply no need

what i have to do
It's my first time flashing a new rom. This is what happened yesterday.
- I created a backUp using clockworkMod recovery 3.0.0.5. (currently using official rom and already rooted)
- I wiped data/factory reset.
- installed cyanogenMod 9 ics (i didn't like it)(i noticed the recovery mode changed to CM-based recovery)
- went back to clockworkMod and restored my backUp (without wipe)(the recovery mode changed back to ClockWorkMod Recovery)
when the phone started, it couldn't get through the gt p1000 bootscreen so I went back to clockworkMod and I found this error.

Now I can't even do anything with it like wiping data/factory reset or reinstall my backUp. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP
I don't know if you have CDMA or GSM model, but they should be the same.
Cm9/10 change your partition from bml to mtd.
You can just restore your backup, you have to change the partition back to bml.
That is by flashing stock ROM with a pit file, in Odin, and select repartition.
After that, install your cwm again and restore.
If you are using GSM, then the link in my signature has a "GB-stock-safe-v5" to restock.

cdma can u give me a step by step method pliz am kinda new

I got the same exact issue but Odin just won't detect my tab. Tried several computers, different USB ports etc.. I can still access Download mode so I guess there's still hope
mine is back but now it does not recognize simcard what do i do
I thought you said yours is CDMA?
Now you are talking SIM card?
Which model do you own, exactly?
What did it say at the back?
it has a sim card slot n i used to use it
i downloaded the stock rom 2.3.3 gingerbread an gt p1000 mr. pit but after the process it does not recognize the sim. do i use ur overcom method or wat
Yes. You have GSM. Not CDMA.
you confused yourself with wcdma, which is 3G, not CDMA.
Try overcome method.

My tablet is still not detected by ODIN, can't flash anything, tried different computers, different cables, still the same, not detected. Any advice?
May be better luck with Linux and heimdall. Cleaner than with windows.

ok thnx it work buti did not go all the way to overcom kernel i just rooted it with odin after is there goin to b a prob n can i install a custom rom now
No issue there. You just need CWM 5.0 recovery to flash any custom rom.
If I were you, I would redo it again, and use overcome kernel instead.
It is known to work out well, why try other method?
Rooting is unnecessary to flash custom ROM.
I recently rooted my Samsung Galaxy S GTI9000 ZSJW4 with SuperOneClickv2.3.3-ShortFuse & flashed Semaphore_2.7.4 with Odin3 v3.04. Then updated to cm-10.0.0-galaxysmtd with Semaphore CWM Recovery V5.0.2.7. Everything went well.
Before these steps, I did a backup and saved in my Pc. and then did another backup after i flashed everything, it was working just fine until I tried to restore it using my first backup where everything got messed up. It seemed to complete the restoration from backup just fine, but after I rebooted it from CWM. On startup the bootlogo blinked once and went straight back into recovery which I wasn't expecting. And this is what it shows up on recovery.

(This keeps on coming up every time i reboot , I still have access to download mode and recovery, thats about it, not further than that)
I am not sure what caused this, I have tried to find posts on similar issues and haven't come across any that explains clearly how to fix the issue:
Can somebody please explain what part I went wrong and perhaps someway to fix it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I tried the steps on your second post:
docsgoogle/open?id=0B67As4gsEH4XODdZSnhMMGtaUEU
Step 1: Start Odin
Step 2:
a. Select PIT file as 's1_odin_20100513.pit'
b. Select PDA file as 'PDA_DXJV9_Deodexed_Zipaligned.tar'
c. Select PHONE file as 'PHONE_DXJV9.tar'
d. Select CSC file as 'CSC_OLBJV9.tar'
Step 3: Under Options: Check Re-partition, Check Auto Reboot and Check F. Reset Time
Step 4: Start the phone in the download mode
Step 5: Once ID:COM/phone is 'Added!!' click Start
Step 6: You will see a lot of red text after the flash is done, don't panic, just do a 'wipe data/factory reset' and reboot the device when done.
Step 7: Let the device boot all the way then turn it off.
Step 8: Re-enter Download Mode and re-flash only the CSC file [Step 2 d] without pit and without re-partition.
It should work now...ENJOY
THIS WORKS!
