Hi
First off, I flashed my GTP7500 Galaxy Tab 10.1 with the new JB ROM after having had issues with getting applications to update/download from Play Store. I tried everything before flashing, from deleting and re-adding my back-up account, to flushing the app cache and downgrading the Play Store app to an earlier version. Nothing worked. Then when I flashed the new JB ROM, I accidently used the WiFi-only version. Everything worked fine then, including being able to update apps, I just didn't have 3G. So I went back to the drawing board and flashed the correct version. Then, for some or other reason, I was back to square one with Play Store not downloading/updating any apps. The progress bar just scrolls, and then eventually times out. My only question is, why would it work without any hassles with the Wifi-ONLY version, but not in both the official release of ICS and un-official JB? Could someone please help me with this, as I have absolutely no more answers left. Today I flashed it with the newest CM10.1 Nightly build....still no joy. Have tried fixing permisions as well, still nothing. I have also noticed when I try and download attachments from emails, it also just times out.

So I installed the Gingerbread 2.3 ROM on my Droid1. It's my old phone so tinkering with it and ROM'ing it doesn't matter.
I got Gingerbread on it, 2.2.7 Market, Gapps, everything works fine following a factory reset and a cache wipe.
however within the first 30 minutes or so, it seems like Google blocks my account from doing anything, such as installing apps(browsing apps works fine), logging into Google Talk and using Google services. Gmail "push" stops also.. have to force a refresh.
I opened up the build.prop and notice a bunch of 'test-keys' entries.. could they be actively looking for this and blocking it?
Anyone able to open the build.prop on a Nexus S and check things out?
How did you get GB one it do u have a link for download ill flash and see whats going on

hey guys,
ok, my 8.9 is rooted but i've not flashed any roms, still using default touchwiz that it shipped with as I just wanted root access for a few apps. I notice that my market app has not updated to google play store yet and I was wondering if this is because I am rooted? any rooted users got the update and using google play now?
Also, if or when we finally get ICS am I correct in thinking that I will have to unroot my tablet if I want to received the official ICS update from Samsung?
Cheers in advance!
Ross
I got the update on my phone but not the tablet, both rooted

Both my Galaxy s and 8.9 are rooted, running ICS ROM's and have the google play 'refresh'
I was on stock (UK) then flashed overcome 2.3.1.
Now back to stock unrooted and still got market icon.
My Xperia Ray updated ages ago.
I also had an issue with the market app "losing" apps that were installed on the device.
All in all not very impressed with Samsung's software.
Once the official ICS is out hopefully someone will de bloatware and mine will be getting flashed again.
i recently updated to 3.2 via OTA and now i cant boot into recovery mode im stuck at the bootloader, once i select stock recovery nothing happens.
thats great, thanks for all replies, looks like I'm not only one having some problems with this. I have seen the google play apk on the net so prob just end up grabbing that and installing manually, see if that works.
Can someone confirm, will I def need to go back to unrooted device in order to receive official ICS OTA from samsung?
I did a google search for the play store apk. Installed, wiped cache & data, restarted and it works fine.
Im rooted on both my phone and my tablet. Both got the update pretty quickly. What you can do to try and force the update is go into settings^applications^all applications and find market. Click uninstall updates. Reboot. Worked on my phone

I don't have the uninstall updates option. Still on 1.0.28

the market that ships with Honeycomb is different from the one in the phone and ICS.
Even the updates for the HC Market arrives via Market app update, instead of OTA.
When google releases the update for the HC Market, then we could have the play store on our stock 8.9.

Didn't work, um, and now I can't upgrade the market back to the more recent version...
Hi!
I'm fairly new to all this so granted I have made one or more mistakes.
My problem is wifi is only working on unprotected or WEP-based routers. WPA or higher, it only tries until forever and then gives up.
The problems are not belonging to the router(s). Several tried of the following brands: Cisco/Linksys E3200, E4200, Dlink DIR 655 etc.
All other equipment aswell as this phone before the upgrade today worked OK, all other equipment is also working OK except my phone.
What I did so far:
I followed the guide on cyanogenmod belonging to the Samsung Galaxy S Full Update Guide (but cannot post urls).
Then I applied the Cyanogenmod 9.1.0 (cm-9.1.0-galaxysmtd.zip) aswell as the apps package (gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip)
Each step fulfilled, every cache etc cleared including the dalvik cache.
Other than this, phone seems to work like a dream again :good:
I received no errors on any install or upgrade.
What may have gone wrong and how do I correct it?
Thankful for your insight and help.
GreatOcean
Have you retried reflashing cyanogenmod? Don't touch anything, just go into recovery and flash the zip with the right version of cyanogenmod again.
Nope but I definately will early in the morning. I can't find any better solution so thanks for suggesting it

The best way to know would be to read their thread (last few pages and OP) as well as trying it for yourself.
Not entirely sure if it's related to CM, but only on the latest stable (10.0) I've had issues with my WiFi not wanting to stay connected, even on a strong connection.
Everything else works great!

I just installed it yesterday. Problem with mine was that the ASOP keyboard not working. Luckily I just dled teh swiftkey.apk a day earlier. Play store wasn't working for me either and the browser just open and close. That's all i tried. I'm going back to CM9 til I know whats wrong and back up some data.
I installed the stable cm10 and the gapps. Hope others dont run in to the same problem as me
Did you restore your apps or app data? That would most likely cause this problem. Or flashing the wrong gapps.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda app-developers app
No, once I got cm10 installed. I was trying to change some of the settings and found "keyboard(ASOP) stopped working" or some error message along the line of that when I try to enter wireless password. After installing swiftkey, I tried opening play store and it just have "server error"
So I haven't gotten to getting titanium backup yet to restore apps
I just took the latest gapps (the first link on the list), so I'm not sure if that's the right one. I'll try again during the weekend. I'll let you guys know if it goes well.
I'm on CM 10 latest stable build, 4.1.2. Came from GB kk4 plus corn 7 kernel. with latest gapps. I use touchpal keyboard.
I have TiBU pro, but rather than batch install apps, I went though google play to install apps, then selectively restored data on apps with TiBU as needed. While this took some time with this approach (96 apps), CM10 is flawless, virtually no probs at all. it actually seems more stable than before.
at times a little laggy but not a showstopper.

UPDATE: Just flashed to CM10 stable. I found out that the GAPPS I used last time was actually for CM10.1.0 while the CM10 that is out is only CM10.0.0
Be sure to get the right version of GAPPS. The latest one they have is for CM10.1.0

Looks like I'm the unlucky one den. I'm about to try again. I'm using cm's 3.0.8-g2311908 kernel.
Wish me luck.
you are correct, you want the 10.0.0 version from goo, which points to gapps 4.2, backward compatible to 4.1.
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip
thats what I used. I guess the 4.2 set the 'latest' bit in my brain.

This is a n00b question...
Pandoriam is the first custom rom I've installed. I've recently got a Telstra 4G SGS3 after being an iPhone jailbreak user for years. Love Android, love the Samsung and very pleased with how relatively easy it was to root, back everything up with Titanium Backup Pro and install a custom rom.
However, there are a number of quirks I encountered when restoring my apps + data, and there are a bunch of things I had to do after each reinstall of the rom (I needed to change a few options so I ended up wiping and reinstalling a few times).
So I'm wondering whether when the next Pandoriam version comes out I'll have to do a full wipe of data? Hoping not
And on that point, how frequently do Pandoriam updates come out?
PS Posting partially because I don't yet have the privileges to post in the dev forums. I was going to reply in the latest Pandoriam thread about photo sphere on Telstra i9305 (with Perseus kernel and Pandoriam v5) - it works for me (although it's patched together a bit weird, but I think that's the limitations of photo sphere).
Hahah that was my post about sphere mode, what you just told me makes it even harder for the dev now though
It is NOT required for you to wipe all your data every reflash but is RECOMMENDED
You can easily backup data by doing a nandroid backup (an option in CWM ClockWork Recovery aka recovery mode once you've flashed it on) and you can select what applications and what data you want to restore from (via AppExtractor so make sure to install that during the setup of Pandoriam); that making the whole reflash a 10 minute or so job
Having such a great and interactive developer leaves him to update the ROM regularly but that still doesn't mean you have to get every version as I know I just waiting on 4.0 for v5

Cool, thanks. I asked because I got the impression that mainly you had to wipe when changing roms, but when upgrading you didn't need to.
Would prefer to play it safe though!
I've done a nandroid backup too but I thought that was more so you could recover back to your old configuration in toto. Good to know you can get back specific apps from that too - although to be honest, Titanium Backup's flashable update zip is pretty handy!
Also don't forget to backup your IMEI as a precaution

So regarding btemtd's latest post... if he does release a 5.1 version, which sounds like it would be a typical incremental release, would it probably be safe not to do a wipe, but just install on top? :cyclops:
This would be nice, obviously. To be honest, the only issue I'm coming across right now with the latest Pandoriam is Google+ not working, and I don't really use it.
For background: with quite a few other apps I had to uninstall and reinstall from the Play store before they would work.
With Google Talk, it wasn't logging my accounts in, and I found the solution somewhere else on the xda forums. Deleted the Google accounts, then went to Google Services Framework in all apps and hit "Clear data". Then recreated the accounts, and everything was hunky dory. It could work without deleting the accounts but I think not.
Perhaps I could've stopped all these problems if I'd properly cleared all the caches before flashing the rom - I did a wipe data/factory reset but I now realise there are other caches to clear in CWM!
Edit: Ah, just discovered a problem. The SMS threading issue is there with ChompSMS as well. I don't use the stock messages program, so I hadn't tested. This is definitely an issue for me. Damn.
OK, update: I am considering swapping to Ripper Rom just to see how it is, but now that I'm using Pandoriam I'm on a 4.1.2 build, so does that mean I need to flash the XXELKC versions because otherwise I'd be downgrading?
Maybe I should just be patient regarding the message threading issue instead, and wait for a Pandoriam update
If your apps do that then use fix permissions in clockwork recovery
It would completely rely on the changelog of the ROM, if you were to just flash over though, there were just small changes and you chose the same themes then it wouldn't leave so much crap on your phone but it's still recommended to do a wipe to avoid random issues that would require a wipe down the road

Thanks heaps for your replies, Magik_Breezy.
I've now discovered that I must have chosen (without any real reason) the AOSP messenger option in Aroma when installing Pandoriam.
So I'm going to re-flash with stock messenger. I'll try this without wiping (if that's not an idiotic idea) and see what happens! :good:
I didn't even wipe from stock initially but some apps can duplicate etc
Make sure to give back to the xda community in anyway you can

Trying I do hope other n00berly-n00bs find this conversation if they're looking for similar advice!
I just installed the same Pandoriam on top of the current installation, chose stock messaging and a few other minor alterations. No problems have occurred!
Going back to stock messages means that new messages are threading nicely. :good: However, the old ones which came in have remained on their lonesome. Minor point.
You should ONLY wipe if problems occur after flashing, otherwise you are just wasting your time.
Even if you encounter a "soft brick" or a bootloop, the recovery would still be accessible and you could factory reset to fix it anyways.. This stuff nowadays is relatively safe.
Thanks Skander1998, that's great to hear! I was taking all those warnings seriously, and I guess it's worth stating to cover those eventualities.
Anyway, having just re-flashed with no problems, I'll continue like that, and take your advice that if I get bootloops or problems I can always boot back into recovery.
Very happy with the latest state of my Pandoriam rom'd SGS3.
A heap of crap will accumulate on your device and apps will double
It's also always best to follow what the dev says as he is the one who truly knows everything that goes on behind the scenes
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda premium
Fair enough! I would imagine for small updates of the same rom it's fine not to wipe, but changing roms it'd be crazy.
I'll keep an eye out for apps doubling.
