[Q] My button are defect? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody. I only want to know if my HTC One is normal. Sometimes when I touch the home button or the back button, It does not respond. It seems to be bugged. Is there a way to make the button more sensitive or my phone are defect?
Thank you!

Are you running a custom kernel?
Or you're fulyl stock?

I'm fully stock and not root

It's strange, with custom kernel is "normal".
Which version of base you have? 1.29.401.12?

Using a screen protector? Lots of complaints of buttons not working correctly because of screen protectors.

My version is 1.29.661.5 and yes I have an hd invisible shield

Ok that's answer my question. Thank you man.
I have another question. Did I have the last update?

I think so, but not 100% sure. I'm still on 1.27.xxx

[Q] How can I keep the home/dock/navigation keys lit?

How can I keep the navigation keys lit whenever the phone is unlocked and the screen is on? It would help me hit the right one the first time! Pretty new to all of this but I've searched and was unsuccesfull. I've just installed LauncherPro. On Eclair.
I don't think there is a way to that. However, if the phone is not lock, touch anyway on the screen will light up those buttons.
thanks for the reply. I suspected as much after searching turned up nothing. At least now I know. A little behaviour modification on my part and I'm good to go.

Dead Touch Screen??

Hello,
My Touch screen doesn't respond to touching since an hour ago.
I see no logical reason for this fault,
My screen is guarded and nothing happend to it.
I tried to remove battery and insert it with no luck, I booted my phone into CWM touch recovery, and it also doesn't recognize touching.
update2:
The problem appeared again.
just flash a kdz to return to stock rom

The problem appeared again I tried a lot of times to remove battery&insert but it doesn't help.
Please help me.
I've just flashed my phone to stock rom,
I'm still having the same touchscreen issues - the screen won't respond to touching.
Any suggestion please?
Is it possible that the touchscreen issue is caused because of the screen protector?

Screen protector protects screen If you have got stock FW back on the phone, just bring it to your carrier and they should do it on warranty.

Thanks for the advice,
I flashed stock rom and now when I turn on my phone It shows me the "Android Welcome Screen", Is there a method how to bypass this screen without touching the screen? (If I'm taking phone to my carrier, it might seem strange to them that my phone shows the "Welcome screen" whether the touchscreen doesn't work so they could know I flash my phone and not to accept my phone's warranty)

You can try on-screen phone, which is a software by LG, but i think, that this also needs to be setup first... Otherwise, just tell them, that you did a factory reset, because your phone wasnt working properly anymore, and thats when your error occured.
I dont see another way... Maybe repair it on your own

I'm going to take my phone back to carrier
But there's very strange thing: the touchscreen rarely works.
I removed the battery for a night and when I got up in the morning and I inserted the battery and turned the device on, for a few seconds the touch worked . What does it tell about phone?
I've just received my phone from repairing, and my touch screen has been replaced.
I'm a little disappointed because I expected for getting new phone(I have a warranty). I've also noticed that the screen is a little thicker, about few mm, which is weird.
Is it right that phone with replacement touch screen won't be as smooth and good as normal one, or not necessarily?
Same problem of Freezing screen
Disappointing but i too have this very same problem with my brother's P970... any ideas how or why?
though sometimes it would respond but leaving it a few minutes would again make it freeze. The hardware buttons work but the 4 touch buttons wont. now i cannot get thru the rom manager to make it into Bootloader mode so i can install another rom...
some things i did a few days before this happened:
1. flashed CWM recovery successfully.
2. installed a lot of apps and happened to fill up the SD card.
3. installed a new ROM Gingerbread Repackaged V20N
I can still get to S/W Upgrade but all I need is the Bootloader Mode. I honestly dont think this would be a digitizer malfunction since it works well in a given time. It's like it lagggggs much and unresponsive. I cannot get past the lock screen. Any ideas or any other way to get to the B/L mode? Thanks.

[Q] How wake up phone by capacitive buttons?

How can I get to wake up phone by capacitive buttons? I mapped "search" key to "power' in keylayout => it can turn off screen, but can't wake up. What can I do?
In theory there are hardware buttons, so is limited by software. How to disable that?
Well, the softkeys aren't actually "hardware-buttons" like VolUp/Down and GKey, i think. For me it would be very surprisingly if it works. I doubt it.
Waking up the phone bye proximity sensor (responsible for making the screen dimmed when phoning) would be very nice, in case od the phone just lies on the table and you want to do sth quickly.
Unfortunatly i didn't find an app or sth similar which can do this.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: I found an apps called "tap tap app".. doesn't work properly on cm nightly 70 though..

I now that - Pocket Sensor =) It work on CM, tested on P970 & P500. I don't used it because i want to wake up phone manually)
I think it also related with the driver at kernel stage... so the Vol Up/Down and G-Key are supposed to be mapped at the driver.. But I don't know about capacitive buttons, perhaps it can also remapped..

Hi guys, I know this is an old topic but I am looking for same solution that I know works because I have been using this method on my Galaxy S2 (t989) with HellKat rom.
With Hellkat rom installed on a Galaxy S2 (t989) aka Hercules, you can touch all capacitive buttons in one particular order only which is from left to right.
You first touch the options button then home, back and search button. As soon as search button is pressed the device wakes up.
I am now running Lollypop and am wondering if this was a function possible through an app?

Capacitive buttons do not always respond

Hi guys I'm running into problem that the capacitive buttons sometime do not behave and failed to respond. I have seen a guy on youtube also complaining about the same thing and have it fixed by updating to 1.29. However mine's already on 1.29. Anyone else have the same issue?
Do you use a screen protector that covers the buttons?

Not facing any such issue, however it does require to hit at correct place on the bar. I observed lot of times in initial days I was hitting slightly above the back button

My Xperia S has similar problem... There is point which you need to search and find ( it's easy once u get used to it)
always touch on that pt and the phone should always respond..
I've been trying to get accustomed to swiping through whichever button I need. I put my thumb on the HTC logo (not using any HTCLOGO tweaks), and then swipe over the back or over the home button depending on which I need. It rarely if ever fails this way and it feels pretty slick using a pseudo-gesture to navigate :good:
The only issue with the buttons i'm facing is bringing up the menu on back button long press. Probably works about 75% of the time but that 25% where I inevitably exit the app is frustrating

Yea I do. Is it really the screen protector that is causing the problem tho?

Same. The swiping doesn't work for me sometimes. I'll have to keep tapping and swiping until it finally works. Double tap on the home button is not really a good idea IMO. Sometimes it doesn't register as double tap and brings you back to home.

Yes your screen protector could be causing the problem. There are multiple posts in this thread where people are complaining about their screen protectors (especially the official HTC branded ones) that are causing the capacitive buttons to be considerably less sensitive and problematic.

So myself and a buddy of mine are both having issues with the capacitive buttons as well. We both have screen protectors. I wish someone could confirm if they are having issues even without screen protector. The guy at the tmo store put it on perfectly and I suck at putting these damn protectors on my phone
i am sure this is screen protector problem , i had no screen protector before and i faced none of those problems and now i have one ... its all problematic.
Switching my screen protectors from fosman to amfilm helped me. I'm assuming because the amfilm is thinner than the fosman. It's been about a day since I switched and the back key hasn't failed me once.

I have no screen protector and I am having the same problem although it is worse when a screen protector is on.
I think the button detect area needs to be bigger and the sensitivity needs to go up or they need to respond immediately regardless of whether the app has frozen, especially the home button.

I was having a problem with this as well without a screen protector but I have a tempered protector on it now and it is considerably worse now.
what's funny is that I think the screen's touch sensitivity actually needs to come down for me and the button sensitivity needs to go up.
Maybe there's an app for that.

[Q] Home button doesn't work, back and menu works

I recently replaced touch screen of my mi3. Everything was working fine. Then recently home button stopped working, it lights up but nothing happens when I press it, no action, no vibration. Other two, menu and back buttons are working fine.
First assuming it was because of latest update, I got into recovery and did full wipe, installed older version I had, and problem persists. Then I noticed home button is not workin even in recovery mode, while other to works.
It must be hardware problem right? it is strange, because home button was working after replacement, then suddenly hardware problem.
or something related to software even system format (yes I formatted both sysem) can't affect is afoot?
Where should I look into if I try to repair it myself (I am located so remote, getting service is out of the question)
In worst case, what app let me set long press menu button to home.
I am using gmd gesture control for the time being. But I don't want another something running in the background all the time. And it is hard to come up with some gesture that wouldn't get in the way while playing etc.
Any idea, thanks

Does screen turn on?
Dragon-tt this is where I bought replacement. You can replace it yourself, but you know my issue.
Around 80$ with shipping.
You might find it cheaper if you look around, but make sure the dealer is reliable.
New mi3 is now 239$ btw.
In case anyone is interested, there is an app called button remapper, but didn't work for me.
I did it by editing key binding file in root/system/usr/keylayout. Not gonna meddle with hardware without knowing what I am doing.
Guess I will just learn to live with 2 capacitive button.
The screen turns on when i press the lock button on the side.

As was mine, you should replace the screen, suggest you buy LCD with digitizer. No other way than to replace it.
Mi3 touch screen
If you go to xiaomi plaza, you can find the Original Xiaomi 3 Touch Screen +LCD Screen Display, and free shipping, the price is just $ 43.
