[Q] Battery Problem After 4.1.2 update - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello:
I was using leaked JB for 6 months, it was great, battery stay for full day ( talking, net, video..etc.) , then I update the official update, just to face battery drain, now I'm charging 3 times/day, it is not normal, the battery is 50% for example, I got a call, then it drop to 1% and the phone close, then after I open it, it give me 10%, if I close for 5 minute, then open again, it may give me 15% , if I charge it, it can jump to 70% in few minutes.
I don't think it is a problem in the battery it self, as this happen suddenly after update.
I read threads about calibration of the battery after new room, but I can't do this cause I'm not rooted and I can't find the safe kernel to root
here is my phone info :
Model N7000
Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version : n7000xxlso
kernel version: 3.0.31-906407
build number: JZ054K.N7000JPLSB
any advice how to solve battery problem and root the device

any advice how to solve battery problem and root the device[/QUOTE]
you can use the attach file to root ur device. Just flash it from recovery.
Use the below link to get the custom safe kernel. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1789397
do a full wipe and reinstall the rom and then flash the kernel and then flash the attach file to root.

Thank you, Please correct me if I'm worng
You said (do a full wipe and reinstall the rom and then flash the kernel and then flash the attach file to root.)
As far as I know, I should install the safe kernel, then wipe data!
So What I think I should do ( Please correct if I'm worng)
1- Download this kernel (JPLSB)
as I have this (Baseband version : n7000xxlso, kernel version: 3.0.31-906407, build number: JZ054K.N7000JPLSB )
2-Flash the kernel using ODIN
3-Wipe data -Factory reset
4- Wipe Dalvic data
5-Install the new Rom
6-Flash the attached file to root the device
7- Most Important : what to do to get the battery back !!! will it be ok after the above steps or I should find some files to delete or using
app that do calibration ??:cyclops:

Got into something like this yesterday, this is what I did.
Downgrade to GB via ODIN and later go to recovery and flash abyss kernel, then wipe data/cache, wipe dalvik cache.
Then, flash the rom of your choice.
Remember, to take a backup through Nandroid or titanium backup.

Follow the procedure from the youtube video and get rooted gingerbread rom . All your clockworkmod related issues will be solved and you will be good to go . Next , if you want to flash Criskelo rom then follow the exact procedure mentioned in his thread . Dont replace or re-order any steps else you will end up with nasty issues . Good luck , if you need more help then let me know

Downgrade from ics to gingerbread.
1. Download any stock or pre-rooted gingerbread rom. ( you can easily find at dr.ketan or bodivas thread.)
2. Open pc odin and connect you devices with pc/laptop.
3.After get conneted, press pda button and choose the ginger rom file ( choose the biggest size file about 800mb ++).
4. Press start and wait until finished.
Remind: only press the pda button and choosing the right file. Other boxes must leave it untouch.

1) Do you do full wipe while install v9 ?
2) Are you successfully booted into v9 after the u pulled out the battery and restart?
3. What is the status of your phone now? Is better do nothing and let other member clarify and give you proper method of guide.

Im not sure what happened during you upgrade to v9 and why redcwm will appeared before you flash it.
1) Abyss 4.2 original/custom is a gingerbread kernel, im assuming you at abyss kernal, therefore your phone 100% wont able to boot into ics base rom.
2) Im assume now you cant flash any kernel, no matter what kernel thru cwm. Then you should flash ics rooted kernel thru pc odin. ( no need to worry about the binary count and yellow triangle).
Please report back. Other member will be glad to help you.

But he did mentioned never flash gb kernel during ugrade to criskelo v9. But why redcwm appear? ( he did mentioned able too boot into recovery mode)
According to his report, i think he might lost full root. ( because the flashing kernel proccess get stucked at all. ) if doing nand restore at this stage might having some risk. ( maybe).

[Q] Noobie here - Where to start rooting and flashing rom?

hi, i newly owned a brand new galaxy note for a month and now i am planning to root/flash modded rom on it.
i have had experience with flashing rom with my nokia phone and jailbreaking iphone, but doing it on android phones seem differently.i have been done reading several forum topics here, but still dont know where to start..
do i have first to root my phone or flash rom or install kernel?sorry for this newbie question but i need your ideas and knowledge upon these.what would be the best application to root and backup original data?i am planning to go for romrocket v3 by eybee.i think it was stable and smooth based on the feedbacks.
if you cant help me directly, please post some links here.i am willing to read and learn from them.thank you all in advance.
You didn't mention what rom and kernel u are on
If u are on ics, then first you need to flash a safe kernel..the stock ics kernel is not safe to wipe and flash
So flash either hydracore or philz kernel..so that u will be automatically rooted and will be on a safe kernel with cwm
Then copy the rocketrom into sdcard, go to cwm, do all wipes and flash the rom

please help me, i have updated with one of phil's kernel volume up,power button, home key then after choosing the kernel from the external sd and finishes it, i tried to reboot my phone.
from there when it tries to start the boot logo it the light turns off but i can still here the booting sound of samsung.
please help me, does my phone is dead or hard bricked???i don't know what to do,im afraid to do another step that would worsen this situation.
i already installed odin if ever i needed it..please help..
You say you updated with one of philz kernels...
You should update with the right kernel eq. the LRK or
if not available, something close to that like LRI
Also don't be impatient, it could take several minutes to boot as it has to rebuild it's cache

so you mean to say the phone is booting fine but the screen is black?

Just pick a correct kernel version for ur n7000 from philz kernel.
U can flash from stock recovery nd u dont need to think abt rooting nd CWM, as it goes in package.

That should be easy, a new slate system
1. Install safe kernel, I personally prefer Abyss GB Kernel
2. From Advanced : Reboot recovery (IMPORTANT)
3. Factory Reset/Wipe Data 3 times
4. Wipe Cache partition 3 times
5. From Advanced : Wipe Dalvik Cache 3 times
6. From mounts & storage : Format /System
7. From mouts & Storage : Format /Preload
8. Now, Install your new GB ROM via Odin or Flash recovery (if there is a flashable file)
I am curious though, why do you want to switch back to Gingerbread ?
I had a problem lately when I started to use OC kernels(hydracore and Loki)..
My phone dies during intense gaming or benchmarking so I went back to stock cm10 kernel but my phone starts to shut itself off when battery drops less than 60%... it won't boot when it dies during that state UNLESS I PLUG it in a charger then boot it...
Maybe going back to gingerbread is not the answer?
What maybe causing it to behave like that?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
That should be something with battery stats
Go into recovery and wipe battery stats then make sure you discharge your phone until it shuts down then recharge to 100%
this should calibrate your OS for better detection of battery status
If you can't find 'wipe battery stats' in recovery, try searching for a similar app in playstore
Also, I recommend wiping cache as well while you're wiping battery stats, I prefer using recovery when wiping cache partition than the settings menu
I don't think moving back to GB is the answer, it is probably something with the kernel
I use paranoid android, the Utacka kernel that comes with the ROM is amazing.. Have you given PA a shot ?
Yes... its kernel makes my phone not boot when below 60%.. also slimbean.. maybe its my battery...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I don't think it is the battery itself.. I think your OS is reporting the battery percentage wrong, try wiping battery stats as I mentioned in the previous post and give it a try..
Utacka said that BATTERY CALIBRATION is [email protected]#$
..haha
It doesn't exist... its a placebo.. your OS do it automatically.. you can read it in pa thread.hehe
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
By experience, Sometimes changing ROMs cause battery stats to be malfunctioning, it happened to me once while I was doing an EFS restore.. the OS was reporting 30% (the battery % when I did the EFS backup) while It was 100% prior to EFS restore.
Although I admire Utacka's work, & I really think this guy is a true genuis, but in my experience, wiping battery stats sometimes work with such malfunctions that you currently experiencing
I would give it a shot if I were you
Hydrcore v7.5 , that is not on the Hydracore kernel thread, the last version is 7 ????
I tried calibrating and wiping batt stats yesterday and nothing happens..
Hydracore 7.5version is made by Maxfu..
its in hydracore thread.. page 1168...
Maxfu continued the work of lewarne..
he busted the camera bug and can now play videos on gallery now.

CM10 kernel its safe.. He does not need to flash anything else.. .
Step 1 reboot to recovery and wipe all.
Step 2 reboot from recovery straight to odin mode
Step 3 flash gb with pc odin

Thank you, I just downloaded it, I will give it a go
if I can reproduce your problem with it, then it is definitely a kernel issue

I understand that CM10 kernels are safe.. However, I got used to Abyss since I were on TW-based ICS
Moreover, I'd rather be safe than sorry, Apparently Noteandfound is someone who changes kernels.. so I thought I'd rather throw the advise anyway

[Q] GT N7000 doesnt boot

Hi
I was rooted my stock rom few months back.. it was working until now..
My phone was restarting every now and then so i decided to flash my ROM(Stock ROM 4.04[Rooted] ).. so i downloaded N7000DDLRB_N7000ODDLR4_INU from Dr. Ketans section of ICS Stock ROM and flashed it using odin,, the process was completed and the device showed updating andriod ... optimizing applications ,, then shut down,,, when i rebooted it,, it just goes till before the samsung logo and shuts down,,,i can still go in download and recovery mode.. did i i brick my phone?.. please help....
sounds like you need a full wipe, Its more than likely old system files causing it to bootloop.
Revert to GB, or quicker, Flash a safe kernel, do the full wipe in recovery and then it should boot normally.
DO NOT wipe with the stock kernel, thats a recipe for disaster

[Q] Help restoring my rooted Galaxy Note n7000 to stock status.

Hi there,
I have a rooted Galaxy Note N7000 running JellyBean 4.1.2. and I've got a ton of apps/photos/videos/messages... etc.
and I've sensed the phone is getting slow. I've removed all the unnecessary apps and deleted photos/videos etc..
but its still slow.
so anyway I decided to start from scratch, I decided to unroot the phone and install a stock rom. delete all photos/videos/apps.. everything.
so I downloaded the official latest stock rom released from samsung for my region. (N7000JPLSB_N7000OJPLSB_XSG)
and I've looked at many many pages on the internet and some site different methods than other, which got confusing.
finally i decided i'd go with the method mentioned in this page:
rootgalaxynote(dot)com/galaxy-note-unroot/how-to-unroot-galaxy-note-gt-n7000/
(sorry for the link formatting it wouldn't let me post a url)
the problem is, at the end of the page it says to do a “Wipe data/factory reset”. However, I have read on many sites and threads that you should never do a factory reset on stock Rom!
So now i'm confused.
1- is the method mentioned in the page i linked above correct and safe?
2- will the method above delete everything? ie: photos/videos/apps.. etc (which is what i want) if not, how do i achieve that?
3- do i do a Wipe data/factory reset? or not?
Thanks in advance.

Flash Philz kernel and boot into cwm recovery. The go to mounts and storage and format system, data, cache and preload. This will completely erase the trace of old system. Then go back to advanced menu and choose reboot download. Then flash the rom as per reply by above member.
Before doing this just make sure you have a working usb connection because after the steps there won't the any rom on phone to boot till you flash the new now.

Recovery mode is a mode in which you have control on Android file systems, internal and external SD cards. It run without Android.
Thanks, about the Kernel though.. as I said I found the page regarding Philz kernel, but there are so many of them i really don't know which one to download. there are so many threads intertwined it get really confusing.
is it the one in here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31911682&postcount=3
should i download the JPLSB one? will this root my phone (again?) cause i don't want it rooted.
should i even download the kernel? i mean do i really need to? is it because my current kernel will cause problems?

Check .tar.md5
Find Odin v3.04. Put philz kernel .tar.md5 on Pda case. And flash it

Yes, use tar.md5 file with Odin PC as previously shown.
That file is Philz kernel and add ROOT by default. To avoid root add, use philz_installer.cfg as indicated in the Philz thread.
Ok great, thank you for all the help.
i just hope i don't brick the phone
HI just one last fast question please...
as for philz_installer.cfg it says to put it in /sdcard/clockworkmod/philz_installer.cfg
but i don't have a clockworkmod folder.
should i create it? or put on directly on /sdcard main folder?
Don't use the tar file. It will cause a yellow triangle. Use the zip version. Place it on external sd card. Don't worry about cfg file for now. Boot into recovery and choose apply update from external storage. Choose the zip and flash. After it completes, click on reboot system. The again boot into recovery and you should see cwm

I've often used Odin PC to flash new ROM's, for example Stock LT4 and Stock LT5, no problem, no yellow triangle. To avoid it in the future, please explain when and why we get the trouble triangle yellow. Thanks.:good:
you will get a yellow triangle if you flash anything else that stock roms using PC odin. you will also get an increased counter. nothing to worry if you are out of warranty though
