I have a blacklisted Kindle Fire HD. I was wondering if I change the mother board is that where the serial # is stored? If so then I should be able to register the Kindle assuming the new board has a good serial number right? Thanks for any help.

Personally I would save yourself some money and just install a second bootloader (twrp) and a custom rom like Hashcodes CM10.1. Amazon's blacklist has no effect on aosp or CM, and you can just run the Kindle app if you want the ebook reader interface back. The only thing you will be missing is the amazon video streaming which is a work-in-progress right now.

Kindle 4 as in the new e-reader? This is the Kindle Fire HD 7" forum. I don't know if it would work but it's worth a shot I suppose.

okay thnx man.can you tell me how to root it? and i also dont want amazon services but android app store is working like i can download app and games ?and also can i add movies and music via usb in it?
Just root your Kindle & install Play Store. That will give you access to more apps than you could possibly need.

Hello BRICS brother, I live in Brazil and bought a Kindle Fire HD last week.
Some functions simply do not work like the Amazon AppStore (requires an US credit card) but the rest works great. Reading books and comics on the new display is awesome.
After rooting and installing the Play Store the device becomes even more amazing, now I like it better than my Ipad.
Buy the new Kindle and be happy my friend!
Hello . Will rooting the KFHD will allow us to buy ebooks at later point of time thru amazon services. i may be interested as a android tablet which will allow freedom to user on downloading apps and games and also to read ebooks. will rooting would help . if so i can think of buying one. please let me know.
My brother bought a kindle fire hd 7" from a guy on golsn. After getting home the guy reported it stolen and my brother's kindle won't allow him to do much. After contacting the company they told him he would have to file a police report and have proof of the purchase. Basically my brother is out of luck on that aspect... Does anyone know a work around for this or can at least point me in the right direction?
Thanks
Does it have a password lock if so there's not much you can do if it has a account on it just log it off and make your own Amazon account then it should work fine

No, it has no account currently and it will not allow him to sign up for an account or let me add my already currently working account. It just says error when we try.
Sounds like there's not much you can then

If you buy a factory cable, you might be able to boot the kindle into fastboot and factory reset it. I am not 100% sure about that and maybe someone else can confirm, but I think that is your best bet.
Yes, if I could get to fastboot I could do something. With his kindle fire. Anyone have any idea how to get kindle fire hd's into fastboot?
Has anyone considered or know if it is possible to build a rom for this based on the stock kindle fire hd? If so I would be interested in trying.

I read this and thought it was sort of a goofy question at first but now you've got me thinking...
What happens if you install a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 ROM on the Nook HD+? For that matter, has anyone tried a stock Kindle Fire HD 8.9 restore? I know there are boot loader differences but I'm thinking leave the Nook HD+ bootloader or (working) custom recovery intact. Just the ROM itself. They're both OMAP 4 based - granted the Kindle has cameras and the Nook has the micro SD slot but they're pretty close to the same hardware-wise.
I'm intrigued to think I might be able to have my Nook think it's actually a Kindle Fire HD 8.9...
Thoughts?
Browsing around on the Kindle 8.9 Dev forum found this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41301028
It mentions there being some secret data related to Amazon registration, along with serial # of the device. Given that, its probably not nearly as simple as getting a stock KF 8.9 ROM running on the Nook. You'd likely need a backup of the partition that post is referencing too. Also, could be that the Nook is using that area for something.
Very complex mess ... If you did happen to own both devices I guess you might be able to make your Nook spoof being your Kindle. Otherwise your best case I can imagine is your Nook is spoofing being someone else's Kindle which Amazon & that other Kindle's actual owner might not appreciate...

Ive been searching for a way to download Kindle Fire specific apps from the Amazon store to my Nook HD plus running cyanogen. Ive been "purchasing" the free Amazon app of the day for weeks, but a lot of them will only run on the kindle fire. You can purchase the app, but you cant download the kindle specific app unless you have a kindle fire.
As an alternative, has anyone tested downloading a kindle fire specific app, and copying the files over to another android device? Would the app still run?
Hey kindle owners ! I need your advice and also opinions on the 7' Kindle fire HD...!
I am a student and basically I'm getting a tablet for reading and also for movies/music. Before I actually buy it, I need to know what I should expect from getting a Kindle for my daily use. There will be a lil of light gaming tho.
I've read that there's no USB OTG function for kindle. One of the cons because this tablet is suppose to last at least for 5 years. Paying about 200usd on my own as a student so it'll be a painful experience if I don't know what I should expect from this tablet.
All opinions and advice are much appreciated !
You would be alot happier with the Nexus 7 (2013) device. That device has alot more freedom. Custom ROM's, Recovery and all that other stuff that the Kindle Fire HD (2013) does not have because Amazon doesn't like us on a different ROM.
I just acquired my Kindle and I am using it for the same reason. It has limited internal storage but I use Copy (20Gb) and GDrive (15Gb) to backup online (for free of course) and move files from my computer, phone and Kindle.
Rooting wasn't hard at all since these fine folks put together some great tools to use. I am running CM11 and I have yet to find any issues whatsoever.
I have only been using it a few days but I can see this being a huge asset for school.
Regard,
FB
You can't get a brand new HD 2012 anymore. Only used. And used products are the worst. They could be selling you a stolen device or a half broken device.

Hello. I'm getting myself the new Kindle Fire HD 7' . Don't see any reason why I should go for the older one.

I would be happier with the Nexus 7 too, if I had the money to buy one :crying: . However I have been rooting my phone and I stick to one rom after that. I'm not really into development so yeah, more like daily use and some cool add-ons i can do to it . Thanks for replying !
Let's see reasons to buy older 2012 kindle, specs are about the same, it is flashable 2013 is not, we have recovery methods that work on the 2012, we don't on the 2013... 2012 has camera and mic, 2013 doesn't, 2012 has HDMI out, 2013 doesn't... In general the 2013 isn't that great, I think Google play store use on it is still not fully working too, I'll let other people confirm that though.

I think its perfect for reading; not too big or small. If you do need to zoom its just a quick swipe.
I have the 2012 version and haven't had my hands on a 2013 to compare.

Sadly, over in Malaysia, I'll have to get it via a person managing with suppliers . And they only carry the new Kindle Fire HD. Well that's just so darn disappointing for me. :crying:
Guys, I have asked for the 2012 version. As you guys have said, 2012 version is much more worth it right? What about the firmware + apps? The software can be converted into the CM 11 without any lags right? Thanks for the reply.... Hope I get this one soon to confirm my purchase !
Apparently , the older version of kindle will cost me 60 USD extra. That really sucks. But please do advise me on the apps and software. From what the seller said, apps and software could be hard for me to get as time pass by. But if I were to root + flash a new rom, that wouldn't be a problem right?
Correct, we have cm 11 ROMs running on it smoothly. The original amazon is on it was only ICS based, which I think was weird, seems like every time amazon releases a new device they don't have the current build of android on it, they have previous version on it. I mean I think even the hdx had 4.2.2 on it instead of 4.3, considering kitkat had just come out and its 4.4.

Hi everyone,
I'm a total n00b to these forums and I apologize in advance if I am breaking any rules or if I'm not following the proper protocol for this type of post.
I got an Amazon Fire HD 7 as a gift and I just put the latest version of KingRoot on it. I installed it and ran it ...and it says it was a success so I believe my device is rooted at this point.
My goal is to strip all the Amazon software from the device and install Google Play Store + Apps so that it becomes a pure Android-only device.
Any links or information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!
