[Q] cyanogen mod 7 help

hi..m using a samsung captivate..a complete noob here..(itz my first post)..!!
itz rooted..unlocked ...and running stock android 2.3.3(flashed it with odin..stock firmware of 2.2)
i wanna know more about cyanogen mod...is it like an upgrade..??
or a completely new rom to replace the existing stock firmware..??
if yes..are all the applications from the market compatible..??
plz post a link to a thread containing download link to the mod as well as instructions...!!
plz note that m using ANDROID 2.3.3 AND NOT 2.2
cuz i've checked wiki forums n therez a guide but supported only for 2.2 devices..!!

This is xda, a place too learn and read and research. Not to bee spoonfed.
Go to the development section and read about cyonagenmod. All of the info is there, not to mention the Q&A thread stickied at the top of this section. Where this post should have gone.

[Q] Are these the right instructions?

I have a rooted SGT 7.0 (Sprint) with the Samsung version of Gingerbread. I'd like to flash it with an ICS build, and the one I selected said to flash it using CWM.
Could someone please tell me if the instructions in the link below are still valid for Gingerbread? They appear to be written back when the device still had Froyo, so I'm not sure if I should follow the same steps.

[Q] [QUESTION] using custom roms

hi guys. heres my question. -- if i use a custom rom for my SGA , How long can i use the rom i installed? can i use it for a long time as long as it has no bugs like stock roms? even if theres an update on the rom i used , do i have to install the update?

First thing i would like to tell you that you can use any ROM for as much time as you want.If you are on a ROM which is bugless and better than stock so there is no problem in being on it.
Nextly as it goes for updates if your ROM support OTA updates then you can easily update it as on Stock but don't install updates from the Manufacturer untill not on Stock.
Abd installing updates depends totally on you if want you can if you dont its up to you.

1. You can use it as long as you would
2. Some of custom rom have a view bugs, or the ui doesn't fit you. I think you should carefully choose your cusrom.
3. Usually rom update bring the good changes, or you can see the changelog first.
To avoid unwanted answers, i think you should use the Q&A thread.

Yes, you can easily downgrade if anything.
It will work for all sims.
It is not rooted, if you want root then you have to flash supersu (google it).

No. There is a development thread for omni, there is a discussion thread for omni, there even is a "thanks omni" thread.

What did you type in wrong to get it to crash?
I suggest you start reading the discussion thread. That worked on my machine.

And you will find everything you need to flash the ROM and to setup your device in the first post of the discussion thread here
If you already read those posts and still don't understand or have doubts, say them in details ... like I read this step but didn't understand that step and so .... Don't post vaguely.
If you already did all this and flashed your ROM safely, you need to do two things:
First: hit thanks button for everyone that helped you in this thread or the previous mentioned threads (thanks) is the currency of XDA forum.
Second: mark this thread as solved.

First of all installing cyanogenmod on your phone will break your warranty and you could damage your phone while making the operation.It is not for beginners.You need to read alot in the forums to succeed.Than if you have the guts,do it,its not that hard afterall

You'll have all your answers the moment you start actually searching for answers rather than asking them.

all the CM11 rom threads have instructions. if u're too lazy to read them u probably shouldn't even think of running a custom ROM on your phone
