Why dont u try flashing EURXXX firmware instead I think you wont notice anything different, I flashed a brazaian firmware and not a damn thing was diferent from EUR firmware
Keyboards also were the same as I bought the phone. Even BALTIC languages were same
PS I tried this because I tought my sim will be unlocked (no luck there anyway)

What do you expect from wifi on your phone? all wifi use in every country use the same protocol (802.11a/b/g/n/and so on). 802.11b/g is very common this day. The differences between country only in the channel they are allowed by their government law.
In summary, you can flash any stock rom (euro or asia, or china, or anything you like) and your wifi should work. If your wifi don't work, check if your wifi AP in your home/office (any place you use wifi) is working well or the configuration is correct. If you are sure there's no problem with AP and other device (like your laptop or other phone) able to connect, then maybe you have a faulty wifi hardware in your O4X.

Yes it does
that would awesome if i could get gb to flash on my device
Because its the European version.
does the European version has different baseband? I have unlocked AT&T LG Thrill 4G that I am using with T-mobile, which baseband should I flash with?
all i want to know is why isnt there a way to flash gb baseband and rom using cwm yet!!

coz most European providers using 2100/900/1800 MHz gsm band
but AT&T using 850/1900 Mhz
so we need base band software to communicate with baseband processor
(as example wifi driver for pc)
we still don't have exact base band for thrill 4g for GB so what we do borrow optimus 3d base bands
still no body able include baseband in cwm flash
when we flashing froyo rom we didn't had that problem coz we already had froyo base band in our mobile.
But when we switching to GB we need new base band ( as simple example windows xp wifi driver is not compatible with Linux Linux need sperate driver)
This is my understanding plz correct me if I'm wrong
The key is having the right modem.. we don't have the right one until thrill gets upgrade or 920h gets upgrade... Latin America...
I have changed over files that are connected to modem but was never succesfull and often ended in a boot loop or stuck at logo
So agree with uesheda

I flashed my unlocked Thrill 4G with O3D's official GB and it is working flawlessly with T-Mobile. I can get 3G signal and even enabled the FM radio.
I'm surprised a baseband hasn't already been ported from our Canadian friends, the Rogers O3D supposedly has the same model number and radio as our device, someone please correct me if I've heard wrong.

I had the same problem, i'm from São Paulo and always used TIM, and had the same doubt that you are having now, "The problem is the Optimus 2x or the TIM", the answer (at less, for me), is TIM. I've changed my carrier to Vivo and now my Optimus 2x really looks like other phone. Never had a signal break like i had with TIM (that was too frequent.
I have the same problem with TIM Norte. Recent baseband 1035.21_20120521.
When I enter in a garage or elevator, where it's normal to loose the phone signal, then exit those places, 50% of the time I have to restart my phone to get the signal back. Sometimes switch airplane mode on/off works.
Using owain's CM9 build 80, but I always had this problem since my stock v20d out of the box. This newest baseband 20120521 seems to reduce this problem, but still occur sometimes, previous basebands were even worse, even in normal places my phone was disconnect from TIM network.
It looks like that ths problem is minimized now, using bb v10d with stock 20q ril on 20q rebuild. I'll use it for more time and report it here.
Yes, we all know that we can minimize our problems here changing to vivo or even claro, but as I said, all my important contracts use Tim, and the Galaxy ace from my wife also uses Tim and never loose the network, so yes, the problem is with o2x.

Mine is from Claro, stock baseband, matching RIL (V20a), 20s ROM.
it depends on your ROM, i used all possible roms, basebands and already used both, TIM and now im on claro.
when using tim problem all the time, any rom and bb/ril
on claro got problem on stock roms while using old basebands/rils and with ICS ROMS.
using GB roms and newers Basebands i forget about this problem.
*btw on ICS roms the problem isnt on baseband, i will find the best post about this problem and paste here to you know. If you want to use ICS i recommend to use newer baseband and use Toogle2G app that you can find easly on devs threads.
again, the best combination to day by day use is a GB rom (cm7 better than MIUI, just opinion) and newer basebands/ril.
Like i said before i tryied a lot of combination, using this phone since 01/dec/2011 and the best ever combination is:
-CM7 ROM (i use temasek 129)
-0521 Baseband
-good kernel (using vadonka 2.6.x now, but temasek default is more stable, Misjudged also good)
*if it helps you, thanks me
Its a good topic, I was thinking to make the same
i use NovaHD bb725/ril 405 v10d US, with CLARO
Sometimes i lost signal and need to reboot.
I tried so many diferents ril, but, till now, i didt find a good combination
Keep searching...
Does anyone know what is the original BB?

I think the stock one is JK4 for JB. But for jamaica, I'd suggest looking at the modems your carrier is on, those would probably be the best.
Ok after doing some research i found out that the network I'm on uses the 900mhz frequency.. which modem uses 900mhz as default?

A modem with 850mhz unlocked would probably do great but what I think would be best is to find the base of your carrier's modem.

Well, JK4 is actually UGJK4. So let's say you have JK3 (UGJK3) and it works great, you know that the newer modem, JK4, will work well.
But now that I'm thinking about it, did your phone come with GB? If so, it's quite hard to us to know which modem is came with. Modems are by area so (almost) every carrier uses different one. There's a modem thread in the Dev section (stickied), you might have to try a few different one.

No need to give up, you can flash modems after modems without any problem. It just a bit time consuming.
To be safe, backup your efs folder so that if your IMEI is unknown again, you can use the backup.

From what i know of the Captivate specs...the gsm 900mhz frequency that it can operate on is just the 2g/edge network. U said u saw the H before on GB rom (custom rom or leaked firmware, i'm guessing?). That letter H can be changed to read whatever letter u want. Just saying.
So in reality the problem may not be the modems (although some modems will work better than others for sure), it may just be the network service that your provider has in your area... It may just be low/bad cell signal.
What other frequencies are used by your provider ? Compare that with the frequency band specs of the Captivate and you will get a better answer on the quality of service you should expect. Maybe your provider has a coverage map that you could compare to as well.

samsung i9000 branded Movistar Spain rooting and using with italian sim

hello all, i'm sorry but i am newbie in this world ... then , i had given to me by a spanish friend a samsung I9000 branded Movistar....this smartphone installed android 2.2 (froyo? ) and kernel 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1 and version I9000XXJPK. then my friend when he moved to italy (i don't know what he did) he use this smartphone with a sim H3G (Italia)...... i checked if it is alredy rooting but titanium backup indicates that do not have the permission of superuser. Now can i install a new rom (updated) and if i do, which rom can i install????? sorry if i said wrong things but i have read many guides but i did not understand anythin

p.s.: sometimes the phone have some errors : Home appliocation (process com.sec..android.app.twlauncher) was suddently arrested ...... and i reboot smartphone..... and another error tells me that removed the internal memory (and i still restart)
upgrade rom solves these errors????
thanks a lot all

Hey,
Yeah, upgrading even to a 2.3.6 version should solve those probles, but JB is also pretty stable
For starters, if your phone is an I9000, then I think you should be able to flash in any 2.3.6 rom for the I9000 to root... But I'm not sure about this, mine hasn't been branded so someone else might be able to give a bit more info on whether its safe.
