[Q] I'm fed up with the droid 4 - Motorola Droid 4

I am on my second droid 4 due to differing problems. First one would just reboot for no reason. This second one will not charge correctly, it will show 100% charged within 5 mins and will go back to nothing after unplugging. So out of the kindness of verizon's heart they are replacing it with a Razr. My main reason for posting is a question, if I do a factory data reset will that remove all evidence of the root?

factory reset does not remove anything, except user data, and reset defaults
best option is to flash .xml with rsd lite
be sure to use the same .xml stock rom version that is on phone.
your problems could be from a bad charger.

i thought the same thing about the charger, but it does it with several different ones and different ways. i dont know anything about flashing roms. i just used the rzrblade meathod of rooting so i can freeze bloatware and tether

Got a Droid with software issues for $50, Now need Help!

SEE MY NEXT POST! I Got it, but it boot-loops.
My Friend said his Droid forgets contacts, is loosing texts & was acting up after the 2.2 software update so Verizon replaced it. But only took the battery so he still has it. I could wipe, root, n install CM6 and most likely get it running good right. I'm thinking after a radio and OS reinstall it might be ok.
Is $50 worth it. Where can I get an originally battery? And will the phone still work if I call and register it on another Verizon account?
Thanks for any help.
So worth it....ebay
OK, so I got the Droid and I have it home. I got a battery cover and battery from my friend at verizon.
So, what Recovery options are there for the Droid. I don't know anything about the droid. I've always done things on my Nexus One only. I tried holding X while booting and this is the screen I get
http://twitpic.com/2lpio0
and this Droid has an endless boot-loop. I'm not sure whats wrong atm. or what verizon may have tried to do to fix it for the customer. What should be my first move. How can I boot into the stock recovery and do a factory wipe?
Update. I've loaded SPRecovery ESE81 while following the Cyan Wiki for the Droid. I've tried a Full Wipe, and Cache wipe. It still does an endless boot-loop.. I'm not sure what my next move is from here.
I was going to keep following the Cyan Wiki for the Droid and install the rooted ESE81.update file from the Wiki. But that is 2.1 and I'm pretty sure the phone has 2.2 So the radio's wouldn't match. Or would flashing the ESE81 file from the wiki also do the radio? (if so from there I'd be rooted and can flash some CM6 like I have on my Nexus One). I'm not sure what to do next. I don't know how messed up it is, or what all Verizon did. but for now it boot-loops, and it has SPRecovery ESE81 on it.. What should I do next. What steps should I take?
Thanks for any help!
*Update - I've learned Droid doesn't have Radio mis-match problems. thats only GSM phones, so from here I should just flash the rooted ESE81 and from there flash CM6 right?
double post
Well, something messed up here. I was able to load 2.1 on the phone it booted once, seemed fine and on reboot I'm back to boot loops all over again, tried wipe and reflash. Same thing. I then flashed CM6.0-Droid and now I get the CM boot animation, but it still is having a boot loop. I'm not able to get it to boot into the system other than that one time. WTH.
idea's? oh and how do I charge the Droid without it turning on, when I plug it in, it boots. (N1 doesn't do this)
Try using RSDlite to flash ese81 while in the bootloader screen. (Bootloader - power and up on d-pad)

my solution is ... charge the battery using external charger

Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Inch - Tons of issues. Need help!

The principal of out school turned in her Tab 7 inch, they no longer want to pay $60 a month for 3G thats slower then a 14.4 dial-up!
It was given to out Tech Department and I snagged it to play with.
OK first thing, it's FC'ing on various apps. I decided to factory restore the unit by booting into Samsung's recovery and wiping the data and and clearing the cache.
This reset it but our principals gmail is still on the phone. It's the primary account. I can NOT get it to delete.
I found a thread here with a official Samsung flashing tool. This one:
Sprint_Galaxy_Tab_EA24_Flasher.zip
It seems to have worked, it got the device back to EA24. However when I reboot, it's FC'ing even more and the principals gmail is still there.
Well, it now sees an update called: EB28
It downloads it then boots into recovery and nothing more happens. No option to update, flash etc.
Also now EVERY TIME I restart/reset this device its like it's been factory reset, all the apps I installed are GONE, my Wi-Fi is GONE, and it FC's like crazy.
Contracts done on this phone so Sprints not going to do anything. Help! I'd like to get Gingerbread on this.
Thanks!
Wow, no one has one of these or has any advice?
Some updates on things I've noticed.
Well, previous to my original post, I was STOCK, non-ROOTED. This morning I used Roddricks guides to flash to ROOT with CWM via Odin.
It seems to have worked OK, I have root and I'm on the stock ROOTED Gingerbread but I STILL had all the default Google accounts. I booted back into CWM and did a complete data wipe and installed CM7. That worked too however when I booted it immediately said NOOK had forced closed...? OK, well I ignored that and installed a couple .apk's I had on my memory card and changed my wallpaper. Then I rebooted into Recovery again and flashed the Google Apps. Upon rebooting I saw no google apps and my wallpaper and installed apps were GONE. I was back to stock CM like it was just installed.
Now keep in mind I had done a FULL wipe to everything in CWM prior to flashing CM7. I booted the device BACK to the download mode and used Odin to re-flash Roddricks stock ROOT and kernel.
Upon booting the phone I'm back to stock Gingerbread and guess what? The default Google account is BACK and so are the two pre-added wireless networks.
WHY IN THE HELL WON'T THIS THING WIPE and why does it keep resetting to just installed defaults when I reboot.
I see I am not the only person with this issue. Someone else made a thread just the other day saying their 7 inch Tab resets on reboot too.
Can someone give us some pointers? In my case I can install custom ROM's but I have to set everything back up EVERY TIME I reboot? Come on, that's not [email protected]#@[email protected]#$
Firstly, it sounds like you're not actually doing the right kind of wipe. You want factory reset / wipe. Either from recovery or within the stock firmware.
Once you successful do this, all downloaded apps and account settings will be gone.
Next up it seems you're not actually managing to install custom firmware. You'll need to specify more details about what you've done and read carefully what appears on screen and report on it if you want useful advice.

I've done the factory reset from stock firmware, I've done the factory reset from CWM 4 and 5.
I've manually wiped from adb using rm -R and rm -rf for /dbdata /system /cache /data, all of which appear to be wiped and then doing an "ls" reports the directors are GONE.
Then I flashed stock GB stock rom, booted up and guess what? My default gmail and wirless networks were STILL there.
Adb'ed back after a root'ed kernel and manually went into the folders and deleted EACH file, then backed out and deleted the folders. Rinse, wash and repeat with the ROM and guess what? default Googles still there along with the Wireless.
Also one thing to note is that with every one of these wipes, boots, flashes etc, lets say I setup the Tab and install a couple apps, add my wireless, change my wallpaper etc, when I reboot, it's ALL gone. The Tab's back to default fresh like I just flashed.
Spent like an hour with Rodderik in the #gtab channel trying to figure this out.
Ok. I believe you.
I still can't rationalize what is happening there. One thing you can trust about computers is they do what they are told. However, sometimes it's hard to understand what you've told then to do.
Kies knows how to restore user state. It's also somewhat evil in terms of still running when you've quit it. Make sure Kies is not running.

Is it possible some settings got backed up to the SD and are auto-restoring? Honestly haven't used my tab in a while so I'm not even sure this is an option. Maybe try clearing dalvik?

sounds like somehow you may have a read only nand mode going on...strange haven't heard of this problem with the samsung its quite popular with the dell streak 7....in the dell streak 7 many people have to send it back to dell to repair it no other way... as for it on the samsung like i said never heard of the problem but if you can't reset properly or everything reverts to a state upon reboot then you may have whats called read only mode basically anything you install change add once you reboot the device it erases everything you did to it....from what i have read its a failsafe in linux try reading a few of the dell streak 7 problems with read only mode it may help in understanding and maybe finding a solution good luck. then again i may be wrong but just what you described sounds similar.
I would just load a new rom like overcome gbsafe_v5

Reset/deactivate/bypass Lockscreen? [SOLVED]

Situation: Mum's SGS was set up to require pattern unlock, but suddenly prompts a PIN input field - however it seems still to require the pattern, as the "you've done it wrong, try again in 30 seconds"-message still is talking about "unlock pattern" (see attached photo). The phone is neither rooted, nor is debugging enabled, and it is running stock outdated Android 2.3.x (pre-value pack, but I'm unsure about the exact version).
I know how to perform a factory reset, but I'd be interested in a way to deactivate/bypass/reset the lockscreen without wiping data. Is there a way?
Any help is highly appreciated.
Edit: And obviously it isn't offering the opportunity to simply unlock via the Google Account.
Okay, solved it via flashing kernel, and editing the according database manually.
Wipe factory reset you won't lose any of your files because the I9000 contains 2 partitions system and sd card factory reset will wipe system partition only

Read whole post. Already solved. And you do loose data, with a factory reset. It's the sense of a factory reset to delete data. This wasn't about keeping pictures, it was about keeping everything.
Thanks anyway.
reset/deactivate/bypass lockscreen?
Flashing the kernel didn't do the same thing as a factory reset? I'm my flashing experience that's what happens. I'd love to know what you did and how you did it to remove the lock screen as I have the same issue as you described and I CANNOT lose the data on the phone.

[Q] Phone won't read SIM after reset

Ok, I will try to give as much information as possible and be concise. I've got an LG Revolution (rooted) on Verizon's network. I'm not sure of the system version but I know it's not Gingerbread. It's an LG-VS910. My whole dilemma started when I watched a Youtube video of a guy showing how to boot into CWM. I had installed ROM Manager and (supposedly) flashed CWM (I've booted into it before using ROM Manager). I followed his instructions and ignored the warning about the reset hoping to boot into CWM. The phone reset. The SIM still read fine but I had lost all my data. I had already backed up my data with CWM. I re-downloaded ROM Manager and went into CWM to restore my backups. Everything restored except /system! After I did this my phone would not boot. I then just went ahead and tried installing a stock gingerbread ROM I had on my SD card (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348637) to restore the phone. I flashed this ROM, then restored my data backup. The phone booted just fine and I had all my data, except the SIM card would not read. I tried another factory reset with the power button and the down arrow, and it actually booted into CWM rather than resetting like before. This is where I'm stuck. I've read that the /system folder won't restore if you have a different system version installed. Same with the SIM. I've about done all that I can do. My ultimatum is to be running GingerVolt 2.0. I think at this point I need to find my original ROM but I don't know where to look! Someone please help!!! I don't know what to do!! Also, CWM wont even let me flash ROM's anymore. It'll either be error 0 or CWM will restart when I try an install. I'm not even sure of my current system version, If I go to "About Phone" in the menu it will crash.
EDIT: I just reset it again with CWM, now It'll just show LG then cut off when I try to boot it. Great. Does throwing it against a wall as hard as I can help? It's sooooo tempting.
The main reason why your SIM isn't working sounds like, to me, that you have a software mismatch. Example: I'm on version 9, then flash gingervolt; gingervolt iirc is built around v6/7. Therefore, my SIM is guaranteed not to work.
Use, lgnpst to flash the system for the Rom you want to use. You might have to redo your carrier flash too, if you not on Verizon. At least that's how I see solving your prob.
software/Rom mismatch = no SIM

Oh ok so if I actually flash a .tot with LGNPST, rather than just flashing a ROM, will the .tot replace all the software and make the SIM compatible again?
So does a ROM just flash over existing core software, and a .tot actually replace that software? Do I need to flash the same software version that I had before anything went wrong? Sorry I'm relatively a noob.
A tot will replace everything (android, boot, recovery, radio, etc).
A Rom is just ANDROID.
Flashing the tot will put your phone back to 'out of the box' like new, condition. And yes, if you want to use gingervolt, if that was what you were using, flash the tot for the version you had before.

Reset Phone to Factory Settings

My phone's vibrate does not work anymore, and I believe it to be a hardware defect.
Is there any easy way to backup my data AND reset my phone back to factory settings? I have xnote 4.3 dual booting next to the stock 4.3 using safestrap.
No, I have not tripped the warranty void flag.
Your in Development thread. This should be in Q&A

You have four options:
1. Use safestrap to back up "data" only. And that only works if you're going to be using the same rom after factory resetting your phone.
2. Titanium back up app. Backs up everything you have. Once you're done your factory reset, restore. This might cause some issues if you restore the apps with their data. Try restoring apps only.
3. Helium app. It does the same thing titanium does, but with a very little chance of issues and it's easier to use.
4. Ask the mods to move your thread to where it belongs, because this is for the big guys only (developers....). lol

Not even the same version ROM. I've backed up 4.4.2 data and restored it to Note 4 Evolution and to 4.4.4 stock.

Good choices if you don't have SS, but a SS data backup does everything in one shot, and with 4.3, installing SS (root, install Busybox [very important, or you'll drive yourself crazy], install SS) is kind of trivial. I spent last week on a new hobby - bricking my phone. (Not intentionally, but I bricked it about a dozen times playing with ROMS.) Back to stock rooted 4.4.2, Busybox, SS, restore data, wash, rinse, repeat.
BTW, make one system backup also. Then you don't have to Odin back to stock. (And keep your backups on a computer and, if you have toe space, on a cloud account. "Too many backups" is words that have no meaning.
Thank you Hashcode. I wish you were still able to keep SS updated. I'm on 4.4.2 because it's too much hassle to flash a 4.4.2 kernel, back up my data and flash a 4.4.4 kernel every time I think I should do a fresh backup.
I dun goofed.
I flashed the stock mj5 rom on top of safestrap, and checked "NAND Delete All" in odin thinking that it would delete all my apps like in itunes.
That was not the case, and my phone will no longer boot. How can I get safestrap removed from my phone while also allowing my phone to boot again?
