[Q] How do I install something via DD / Terminal - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, a noob reporting here. I recently rooted my phone using @Shaaan 's method, thanks a lot bro.
Now I want to install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873119
I want to do it without increasing the binary counter. What the hell is DD? or Terminal?
Is this a software or an app, or would I have to install Linux to use Terminal
Help Mee..

search google play for 'terminal' and pick one you like
I am using 'Terminal IDE' but there are many others to chose from ;]
dd is command to type inside that terminal - you can use this:
Code:
$ su
# dd if=/sdcard/kernel.bin.md5 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p15
# reboot
that is mentioned in that thread from within terminal on your cell - not necessarily from adb shell on your pc (reboot might not work - in that case just reboot using power button as usual ;p)
I did it exactly same procedure installing ThunderZap on JB from inside cell using terminal app.
Other option you might want to try is to use Universal Kernel Flasher by frapeti (here on xda or on google play)

Oh god I flashed that using PC, and after it rebooted, it is stuck on the Galaxy S Advance splash screen. how long am I supposed to wait.

bootloop.
go into recovery mode (vol up + home + power) and clear cache / dalvik.
if no go try download mode and re-flash whole firmware with odin.

You flashed a Gingerbread kernel over the Jelly Bean?

Ohh f***, that was really stupid of me, I really didn't pay attention to the Gingerbread part written in the post title..
Well luckily I was able to boot into download mode and I flashed the DDULP8 firmware.
Now please tell me a recovery that will work on this firmware. Very much appreciated.

Flash a custom kernel like Cocore-E kernel and you will also have a custom recovery depending on the one you choose (CWM or TWRP) to download

Thanks added bro. Ok I have decided to go with the CWM version.
One more problem, when I type adb shell and then type adb devices, it shows list of devices attached but the list is empyt even though my phone is connected and usb debugging is enabled? What do I need to do?
Do I need to go to stock recovery and select install from adb?

See this screenshot please.

All done, installed it successfully.
Can I install GALAXPERIA over DDULP8 firmware?

[Q] [ I9001 ] Restore stock recover

Hi all guys!
I've searched into the whole forum and Internet but I cannot find an answer to my question.
After the FeaMod Recovery installation I know I can return to stock recovery by installing a stock ROM. This is a great thing.
But what about restoring stock recovery without installing the whole ROM?!?! Is it possible?!
Sorry if my question has an answer in the forum yet... I really can't find it.
Thank u very much!!!
If you extract original recovery from a stock rom you can dd it to your device. Or you take the stock recovery.img and modify the flashable cwm zip by replacing cwm recovery.img with stock recovery.img and flash that with cwm.

Hi. First of all TY for ur reply.
Then for this I need some help 'cause I've read hundreds of guides and wikies but I'm not really a master!
1) Ur first tip seems a little dangerous! Anyway how can I extract the recovery from stock ROM with dd?! Has to be the phone rooted?! Or adb it's enough?!
2) Ur second tip seems to be better! But where I can take the stock recovery.img?
And then, after replacing it in the CWM zip I've to do something else before flashing zip from sdcard?!
Really thank you for your tips!
The attached file should reflash the stock XXKPU recovery to your 9001. Tested and works with FeaMod 1.4.
Hi wintel.
Thanks for your reply.
Only last question, I promise!!!
May I use the file u posted with every ROM I've installed or it has to be used only with XXKPU ROM?!?!
Sorry, but I quiet new with Galaxy world!!!

the stock recovery is the same and should be ok for all roms.
this issue was already discussed in I9001 Q&A thread and in the Feamod thread, wintel made it easy for u and gave u a flashable zip,u could replace the recovery.img also through adb or terminal emulator with dd code.(assuming the recovery.img is in the root of internal sd). (keep this code somewhere in case u need it another time)
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p13
reboot
odin

after reading that russian forum......
here's what i found.
they try to installing CWM on pure v30. this is a good idea, flasing v20 just for CWM is torturing our device flash memory.
installing CWM directly via ADB ===> Security Error
installing Kernel directly via ADB ===> Stuck at LG logo
so, they made a interesting discovery, they extract uboot from v20s(CMIIW), and taadaaaaa, no more security error, and its working
but well, i dont have enough balls to try it.....btw @OP, many2 thanks for sharing, dont mind about ppl that didnt believe to you......
I think some one whos stuck on stock v30 shud try this to get cwm ...i have seen a couple of guys getting stuck on stock v30 and were not able to downgrade to patched v20.....

I already said this on another thread. Yes it works, but it is risky. Flashing the uboot partition MIGHT permanently damage your phone. I have not yet tried it and probably never will. Cause if uboot flashing fails, you wont be able to connect to sft anymore (like I said, I am not sure, if it will really perm brick your device, but I think it will).
For anyone who doesnt mind this risk, just go ahead. But for those who need their devices, either live with a rooted stock ROM, or flash a patched GB and then flash any ROM you want, like my repacks, IZS, Marvel,...

Hello, guys,
celebration, I can confirm, that method 2 is working. I have tested it and it flash recovery 6.0.1.4 touch, then I installed AnReboot and rebooted to recovery, then I flashed new kernel, and it is working. Fantastic.
I think then we should be able to patch the bin of v30 with all these files as we already know how to do it for recovery....now someone needs to figure out on which location to patch the other files...and then we will have a patched v30 flashable from sft.

[PARTIALLY-SOLVED] Galaxy Ace S5830 - Can't boot into cwm recovery

Dear Community, greetings.
I have a problem as wrote in the title: I can't boot into cwm recovery. I am gonna try to summarize the main points that lead me here.
Assumption
I used to install custom ROMS flawlessy, following always the instruction etc...
Last rom I've installed was CM7.2 Apocalypse, Project Silk and Link2SD
I needed to restore stock rom
I searched with Google and came across the following solutions
I searched on XDA and came across the following solutions
What I have done...
I flashed using odin 4.38 -> GB 2.3.6 2012 October 2.3.6 S5830XWKTS S5830ITVKT2 downloaded from sammobile.com
I rooted the phone with upd_1.zip (that is attached to this thread)
I tried to install recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip
...and trying to boot into recovery pushing POWER BT + HOME BT the phone stucks on the screen with "Galaxy GT-S5830" and the top-left corner was green
What I have done #2
I tried to use S5830XXKA6 but I dind't neither managed to boot properly (wiped data/factory and cache)
Tried to flash CWM directly with Odin using "One Package"
Could you kindly help me out?:fingers-crossed: I am also willing to give you further information as you ask.
Thanks everyone for your time.:good:
F.
---- PARTIAL FIX by myself ----
1. Format the sdcard in linux with GParted (you need to install android-tools-adb, android-tools-fastboot)
2. Flashed stock firmware S5830XWKTS S5830ITVKT2 with ODIN Multidownloader 4.38 (downloadeble from www.sammobile.com under ITALY)
3. Rooted with upd_1.apk and updated with Superuser 3.0 (attached)
4. Installed CWM 6.0.1.4
5. Restore an old backup of mine.
6. Rejoice

First of all, thank you very much for the reply. Then, the answer is yes and no. I flashed several firmwares. Some of them did work, others don't. Right now I managed to use the one I've mentioned before and
S5830XWKT7_S5830ITVKT1_ITV
S5830XWKP6_XWKPN
but trying S5830_XXKA6 it goes in bootloop also wiping data and cache.
Further information:
I noticed a problem with CSC. While booting in standard recovery an error message appeared saying something like "can't open /system/csc/XEU/system", so I've created the whole directory path and put the files that were in /system/csc inside. This issue is fixed. I am going to investigate and let you know if with other firmware I listed above I get the same behaviour.

1) install heimdall
2) Boot phone into download/odin mode (home+power+vol DOWN)
3) Flash cwm: heimdall flash --recovery recovery-clockwork....img --no-reboot
4) Unplug USB when the bar is full blue on phone.
5a) Some people say you need to remove the battery for 10 seconds. This is so that the phone is completely off so you can reboot into recovery. I think you can just do the key combo from the previous screen though, try it and let us know.
5b) Reboot into recovery (home+power+vol UP)
6) Boot normally and transfer your prefered superuser image to sdcard
7) Re-reboot into recovery and flash your superuser
The important part to note is the --no-reboot for heimdall. The removing battery bit may not be necessary. I think once the flash is done (full blue bar), just unplug the usb cable, and boot into recovery (home+power+vol UP) should work. The idea is that if you don't boot into recovery straight away, it'll get overwritten.

Yes, framaroot can do the job.
It is so funny that people keep saying that we cannot root our phone without odin, Ha Ha Ha.
Just install the framaroot app, it is a one click root.
In addition, you can one click unroot also with this app.
Ok, after you root,if you want to install cwm recovery, you just install another app called ROM manager (from cwm), you can install the cwm recovery from that app.
Everything is so easy and no risk.

Correct, and if you want to do it another way/app:
Download Mobile Odin from Store and flash via it the recovery you want (cwm 6.0.3.2)
And from mobile odin you can also flash custom roms
And to relate to OP, NO COMPUTERS!.
I use SentinelROM and it works like a charm on my i9305 no problems at all! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252953
playstore odin

[Q] PROBLEM!!! Can't flash anything bellow ics

Hi! I have an lg OB running ics 4.0.4(V30B). The phone it's rooted and I have CWM installed from Rom Manager. I can acces Recovery from Rom Manager and with the phone off ( VOLUME PLUS + G KEY). The problem is that I can't flash any Rom bellow ics (not even with Smart Flash Tools) without getting bootloops. I can flash Roms based on ics and above( IZS,CM10.1,NAMELESS ROM NIGHTLIES 4.4.4).
Could someone help me?

I was hoping you fixed the issue. I don't know what to do.
It's a matter of unlocking the boot loader. Once you do that, you can jump back and forth between ICS-based ROMs and everything else.
Gingerbread ROMs include the boot loader (marvel and Huexxx).

Man I can flash ICS-based ROMs .JB and KK, I can't flash GB stock or GB-based ROMs, not even with SFT.
I think the bootloader it's unlocked because I can acces CWM from switch off phone(key combo)....I am confused because i read many tutorials but they are contradictory
That happends also with me 2 times.
Just flash CWM recovery again.

Try toii install a ROM right after rebooting from flash.
What I did is: Install a JB ROM, After, I reinstall CWM with ADB, reboot and then I could install any rom.

Did you unlocked the bootloader first? can you put a link with your froyo and SFT?
I am from Romania so I need an Europe Open
No, I don't tried to unlock bootloader, but like you , I got the bootloops every time I downgrade from ICS, Nameless or cyanogen roms . I use original Froyo - flashed with SFT , then upgrade to GB with Cwm recovery patch- flashed with SFT, then boot to recovery and install Nameless. I will give you the links, once I uploaded to my dropbox.
Here, I hope will help you : https://www.dropbox.com/s/psniks1yvqwymy9/firmware v10a-europe-p970.rar

It's not working. Don't know what to try
UP! When I use the bootloader unlocker app the flashing process take about 2-3 seconds and the app closing by itself without any message like "succes". I even tried to flash a u-boot img uploaded by huexxx and at the second reboot the phone stucks on lg logo without flashing leds

Did you already try the alternative way without the app? Which means load the files to your sdcard and afterwards type the dd if=xxxx of=xxxx? This could show if it works or fails. And did you ever flash the LU5900 port? So the early ICS ROM released by Redy, Gabwerkz and me. Try the manual unlock first.

OK I have the terminal emulator on my phone.
I've read the thread and it says "Move this two files, bootloader and recovery to the root of memory sdcard;
Enter in the command line
su
dd if=/sdcard/u-boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4
And reboot or reboot recovery."
I have downloaded all on my laptop(bootloader recovery and su) but I am confuse....what's with that "su"?
Do I have to put it on the root of the sdcard too?
Sorry for my noob question
