[Q] htc one menu button - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
is there a way to enable the menu button on htc one?
i've found a custom kernel that works fine and maps htc logo to the menu but camera is not working with it. the discussion thread for it is closed.
i also found the back key longpress mod that is not working as well.
please help!

If the thread for whatever kernel you're using is closed then it's probably time to move on to a different one. The state of custom kernels for the One right now is not ideal at this fairly early stage. For example, HTC didn't release the complete source code to help with the capacitive button sensitivity issue that has been fixed on the stock kernels on the latest 1.29 firmwares. Because of this, all of custom kernels as of now do not have this fix in them (except for maybe the faux kernel latest betas). And as you have found out, the camera code changed slightly in the latest 1.29 builds that breaks when used with a custom kernel based on the incomplete and older source code released by HTC, which is all there is right now.
Regarding the camera issue, if you want to use a custom kernel then you'll have to find a ROM/kernel combo that doesn't break the camera. I think TrickDroid, for example, has a camera fix baked in so that most of the custom kernels will work properly. Other ROMs may too - you'll have to check their respective threads. If you just want to abandon the fake HTC logo menu mod (it's really a touch point on the very bottom center of the screen) and use the back key long-press method instead, then you're probably better off just running stock kernel, or install a custom kernel without the logo menu mod so that it doesn't interfere with the back button method.

Yep, agreed. The volume to wake mod doesn't work consistently as of now, but this will probably get straightened out over time.

At CM9, press a couple of seconds the last key ( the up arrow ) and you will open this screen.
What's the point of this mod when the home button long press already does the same thing.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Tested on CM9
It works but it gives a few side effects, some menu texts are messed up (for example power button menu) and "long press back button to kill" doesn't work anymore

To have a dedicated button for multitasking is much better than keep pressing the home button.
It makes app-switch easier to open and it's more real ics style since Google created a dedicated button for it on the Galaxy Nexus.
I owned a Galaxy Nexus for a few days and I realized I use app-switcher a lot more if I have a dedicated button.
OT... can you share wallpaper which is on video please...ty
Does not work on NexusBeam 4.1.0, opens recently open apps, not multitasking.
The intended purpose works fine on AndroidUser00110001's rom, but with a couple little bugs (I think I can live with them)
1) I lose vibration on the capacitive buttons (home, menu, search, back), but vibrations work elsewhere.
2) My shutdown menu looks really weird:
https://plus.google.com/photos/116063009174842363280/albums/5698298922980072337
3) And instead of the words "charging" in the lockscreen when a charger is plugged in, it says "emergency number"
I'm guessing it's a rom-specific problem?

Same shutdown menu here, tested on CM9 :/
do you have the source or smali for this?
I had a couple of people request this. If you just have the smali then I can conver it to java source...
Looks like a nifty mod.
I know BrainMaster's Tweaked ICS is basically stock but I would like to confirm that flashing this MOD doesn't have any side effects that other users are reporting. (i.e. Power Menu is not out of order, haptic feedback still works etc.) Obviously the only thing that is removed is the long-press of the search key.
However, this tweak will dramatically change my ICS experience for the better. Long pressing the Home key(2 secs) before this was so painful and long I did not bother to wait. Now it's instantaneous.
Flashed over stock rom and it is showing the old "Recent" menu, not the new ICS multitasking one.
this is a good MOD.
thanks
After flash the soft key return menu search and home key no vibration , has any one got a problem?

[Nexus 4][MOD] Improve Touch Screen Sensitivity

Hey guys,
The Android 4.3 update for the Nexus 4, in my opinion, has majorly improved the touch screen sensitivity of the Nexus 4, therefore I believe this mod is irrelevant. For those who still want to use it, its still here.
Hey guys,
First of all, I would like to say thanks to trter10 who made the original thread for this. Unfortunately, that thread has been abandoned by the OP and forgotten about. Therefore, I have decided to make this thread. In fact, the mod that I made, in my opinion, is much better than the one in that thread.
As many of us, Nexus 4 users, have come to realize, the device's touch screen sensitivity is way below par when it comes to today's day and age. It has been pointed out that this is due to some changes in the latest touch screen driver from Synaptics, E027. An earlier driver, E015, had much better sensitivity and therefore downgrading to it improves touch screen sensitivity significantly.
There are two ways to downgrade the driver. The first way is the easiest but it doesn't work for everybody, such as people (like me) who use custom kernels like Franco Kernel. I don't know why it doesn't work, but that's the way it is.
First Method:
What You Need:
Root - If you don't have it, go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
A custom recovery - If you don't have it, go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Busybox - If you don't have it, get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox
init.d support - If you don't have, go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933849
What This Does:
Puts an init.d script in the init.d folder. This script will install the E015 driver on boot.
Places the driver in /system for the script to use.
Instructions:
Extract Method 1.zip.
Boot in to your custom recovery.
Install E015-TouchDriver-Mako.zip
Reboot.
Instructions to Revert:
Boot in to your custom recovery.
Install E015-TouchDriver-Mako-Revert.zip
Reboot.
Notes:
After boot, your touchscreen will be unresponsive for around 30 seconds.
After flashing a ROM, you will need to install this zip again.
I am not responsible for any damage this modification may cause.
Second Method:
What You Need:
Root - If you don't have it, go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Busybox - If you don't have it, get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox
Script Manager - SManager - If you don't have it, get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager
Instructions:
Extract Method 2.zip.
Using any android file explorer, place SynaImage.E015.bin in /sdcard.
Using any android file explorer, place the E015TouchDriverDowngrade script in any location you want on your internal SD card (I placed it in /sdcard/Scripts).
Go into Smanager, navigate to the E015TouchDriverDowngrade script and press on it.
Select the following options: Fav, Su.
Press Run.
The touch screen will be disabled for the next 15-30 seconds.
From now on, on every reboot you need to perform the following steps in order to downgrade the touchscreen driver:
Go into Smanager, click on options -> Scripts -> E015TouchDriverDowngrade -> Run.
Enjoy!
Notes:
After a reboot, your touchscreen will be unresponsive for around 20 seconds because the kernel is reflashing the new touch screen driver (E027).
After selecting Run your touch screen won't work for 15-30 seconds if it does work, the old touch driver is not being flashed.
I am not responsible for any damage this modification may cause.
Enjoy!

Well, from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 they didn't fix it, so probably not.
Works fantastically, thank you!
on aokp build 3 for anyone who's curious.
Will not look back!!
Works as advertised on PA 3.0 (24FEB) I can finally type a message in portrait without it making me feel like I have no clue how to type. I would consistently hit letters and they would not register, just did a test and tapped a whole paragraph with not one error. Thank you very much.
Re: [MOD] Improve Touch Screen Sensitivity
Thanks for this! Going to install this now and try if the delay is shorter. The previous one was annoying that I disabled.
Beamed from my very paranoid and harsh Nexus⁴
Got rid of the 30 second delay being a known issue since it's part of the mod and is mentioned in notes.
I will be away for a week so I won't be able to support the thread for that time, happy flashing!

When you boot into recovery just wait a minute for the touch screen to start responding then carry on as normal.
Whats happening is the touch driver is being reflahed back to 027 one.

[20130917] CM 10.2 (4.3) arararagi Customised

This ROM is CyanogenMod 10.2 (loosely based on nightlies, but precisely it's whatever is on the cm-10.2 branch at the time I decide to build it).
You can flash from my CM 10.1 or official CM 10.1 or official CM 10.2 without wiping data.
Main features:
More hardware adjustment than stock or official CM (e.g. torch brightness, backlight brightness, etc.)
QuickMemo
HALO
Bluetooth GPS

Will be fixed in the next release.

20130814.1 uploaded.
This gives the button backlight, HALO settings and Bluetooth GPS settings again.
Also updated the kernel with change from @Adam77Root to allow both volume keys to wake the phone.
I don't have plans for ParanoidAndroid since I use CyanogenMod, but adapting the patches should be fairly straightforward and I'm happy to help if someone wants to do it.

was trying Eternity ROM 10.2 before flashing this.
Wiped data and cache. Flashed it twice. Oops noticed a couple of other feedbacks and its working for them
This rom works fine for me. but I got only one problem. Some "search stopped working" error is showing all the time.
I cant use it on daily bases, I really dislike TV Rotation problem on all CM based roms (CM Problem of-course) and after changing MANY roms factory based and CM based I noticed that all CM based are same (kind of )except AVATAR rom which is heavily themed (good thing-do) and camera performance is very low on all CM.
So the idea of usiing this sort of roms on a dally bases FOR ME is absurd.
Also I dont want to be rude and dissapoint any of the developers, and I always show my gratitude to them all.
I am willing to find some GREAT 4.3 CM Rom in the future. thanks to the developers!
OK, I used Tegra Overclock on Arararagi's previous ROM. With this new ROM I notice two things:
- CPU lowest used frequency is 340 MHz, it doesn't throttle lower even though I have chosen 104 (or something) as lowest in Tegra Overclock.
- GPU maximum used frequency is 416 MHz.
Can you verify this Arararagi?

Root doesn't seem to be working, went in to superuser and tried flipping it disabled and then back to app and adb with no luck. Flashed the latest SuperSU in the meantime. Otherwise so far so good, and it is probably the fastest/most fluid rom I've tried ART on so far.
LOL, and it put me back to stock recovery... Ahh, not sure if you meant to leave it in there, but stock recovery is in the rom zip.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Interesting about the root and stock recovery. Anybody else having these issues? I had a look and found the same source tree after compilation than in my Hammerhead folder....did you open a Terminal and executed $su to see if the superuser is working? I usually do and found no issues. I will check and see what other users say..
Hi, updated one line in the Android.mk for the Superuser. New version is up and can be downloaded. Hope improves your issues on SU. I have none on my Hammer.....
UPDATE - SU is not working. Just compiling new version. Give me 30 minutes.
How is the battery life on this? Are you using stock kernel?

And I still get a Sorry test failed, feature cannot run on your device when I try to activate Root access in things like ES File Explorer.

Hi, nevermind on the recovery. You will stay on what you had before. For the root, did you download the latest version? I can compile from scratch in case the modification was not implemented. I am just puzzled since I had 0 problems on my Hammerhead build (and old Mako 4.2.2).

No, in terms of recovery, when I flashed the rom it also flashed stock recovery. So, it got rid of CWM and put me on stock recovery. And yes, I downloaded the latest rom and still had root issues.

Hi, I do not know how to help as I never had recovery problems on my ROMs. I also re-compiled and flashed on my Hammerhead and recovery remained TWRP...hope other users can report something. I also pm'ed you to get more information. I recommend you flash Googles 4.4.2 factory image and then TWRP and my ROM (or any other ROM). Then the baseline should be ok. Head up, it can not be a big issue...

I have had no issues with my recovery being wiped. I am using milti-rom though if that makes a difference.
Great rom by the way. I love the smoothness.
It just feels slightly smoother than other roms when scrolling in google+ and the xda app, and I havent switched to art yet.
Hey sir I've been trying several Roms all of them fast but this one has a slight advantage, I am liking it very much, will you add any more features that won't sacrifice the speed, is cm theming possible on aosp?

Oh I failed to mention there is one issue that I'm having, my GPS won't locate locations, so navigation is not working, but has always worked on other Roms, anyone else experiencing this? Is it possible to include LTE to permanently stay and is it possible to change the 4g icon to LTE

Yeah weather location don't work either. I had to manually add location to the genie news and weather widget.

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. First of all, does the embedded superuser work?
I will look into the location problem......
Update: Checked location on my Hammerhead and works. Since we use the same source tree, I suppose should work on Mako too. If really not, I need to change the vendor files.
I think it may not be working because I can't use root access on file manager, as far as GPS, it worked when I was outside so it may not be an issue but it normally works when I'm inside as well

Rom That Can Use Capacitive Buttons

As the title said, is there any rom that can use the capacitive buttons?
There shouldn't be a problem with capacitive buttons on any ROM (works for me on xiaomi.eu and cm)
Although there might be issues on custom Roms if you have an LGD display panel, since the correct drivers are not available from Xiaomi as far as I know.
Just try it out
I'm gonna be lazy and hope i get an answer without getting directed to search engine
Forgive me before hand.
Question is: Can you wake/unlock the phone by touching the home button or do you need to press (hear a click) the home button to wake/unlock?

MIUI: answer is no. You must press the fingerprint button.
LineageOS: answer is yes. In new build it will work without any extra work.
Other Roms: I'm not sure. I think it's gonna work with LineageOS based Roms.

Dirty Unicorns and Nitrogen (both AOSP based) will support it also in the near future. I'm just trying to fix the video recording, then i will publish a new build with fixed video and all the button options cm has.

Just found out that my phone has an LGD display panel, that explains why the capacitive buttons don't work on my phone. Thanks
