I want to put my tool that I had been using for a while from my DHD days out here so that someone else can find it useful. The idea for this tool is based off patricks83 ROM_Cleaner. But I have modified it since the concept started a few months ago.
I call this ResUp short for Restore and Backup.
What can this tool do?
[*]Backup apks from data (user apps)
[*]Back up certain settings (Accounts, BT, Gtalk, GVoice, Wi-Fi). This is in Beta, use it on your own risk!
[*]Backup all of your data
[*]Restore user apps (apks in data/app)
[*]Restore certain settings (use caution, very early beta)
[*]Restore system apps (ResUp/Backup2/system/app)
[*]Restore all data
Disclaimer:
Use this tool at your own risk. This is very early beta stages, hence might not exactly work as it should at times. Always have an extra backup (TiBu) in case your data does not get restored properly. This also runs using AROMA, I am still learning aroma as well, so for now need to use vol and power buttons to get going with AROMA
Click to collapse
How does this work?
This tool will does most of the work for you to create its own folders. External SD is the default location for backing up and restoring data.
[*]Reboot to recovery and run the zip file. Download the zip file to the root of external sd card.
[*]Default folder is external_sd/ResUp
[*]Create folder like this to restore system apps (external_sd/ResUp/Backup2/system/app)
[*]When a backup is made, by default previous backup is removed from sd card

For some reason, this tool backsup just fine, but i am not able to restore. I will take a look at it tonight, and see if i can fix it. Sorry guys if it caused any trouble...
Uploaded updated version 3.91. Look post #2 for bugs, restoring apks alone works just fine.
Updated version to 4.0, improved coding to use SD Card, and some cosmetic changes...
Pretty cool . This is something I've always wanted to do but never got around to doing it . I'll start using this for now on and try to give you some feedback. With any luck I'll be using it tonight/tomorrow night.

About to give it a try, only going to backup & restore user apps and settings....no system settings at all since that's where bugs come from.
Let ya know how it goes in a little bit.
//I really hope the Slim gps repo works....
UPDATE
4.0 wouldn't load
3.91 didn't backup user app data which is the main reason I want to use this
I do have a bit of Aroma experience so I'll try to help where I can.

Thanks for trying it and feedback.
I am not sure why it wont load. I even downloaded it just now, and running it in mine, it loads just fine. Can you tell me what is the error message? It should say failed to load cuz of error in line xxx...
I think 4.0 should fix the backup bug you experienced in 3.91, but if it is not all loading for you, then I need to look in to it more...
I am still using stock, but i did use this in 4.2.2 and it restored the apks just fine for me...I am not an expert on this as well, so I really appreciate you taking time to help...
Anyhow, I am sure that GPS thing will work from slim...gps is so awesome in that ROM...

It didn't help gps, but here's the errors I get with both Slim and CM gps.
Sadly, I don't remember the error it gave me. I was in a bit of a hurry to try the gps that I just loaded the earlier version and went from there.
Code:
W/NetworkManagementSocketTagger( 774): setKernelCountSet(10073, 1) failed with errno -1

Is work still being done on this or has it been abandoned?

Kernel Manager released! Lite (free): http://tinyw.in/0i8, Pro (cost): Available in the Market...ENJOY!
Hey everyone! I wanted to introduce a new app with a very simple but ambitious goal: create a place where all kernel developers can submit kernels easily and reach a much wider audience with ease.
The app currently does this:
1) Downloads a kernel from our fast and stable teamwin server
2) Unzips the relevant files (modules included)
3) Flashes the kernel
4) Installs the kernel modules
5) Clears cache/dalvik-cache
6) Reboots to apply the changes.
This entire process takes less than a minute, generally, (depending on download speeds of course ), and it is extremely simple for end-users to find a kernel, filter by kernel features (BFS, CFS, HAVS, SBC, etc) download/install kernels, and submit ratings for their favorite kernels.
If you use IRC, join us in freenode in #kernel-manager!
In order for this to be a success, we need support from kernel developers like YOU! Submitting a kernel to Kernel Manager is totally free and we even provide hosting for you! Right now I'm looking for kernel developers to submit kernels to start populating the app. Submitting kernels is easy!
THE LINK IS FOR KERNEL DEVELOPERS SPECIFICALLY! Go to http://kernels.teamw.in and register for an account! Once it's approved, you can easily enter new kernels, which immediately show up in the app. The app will be released in the market, and there will be a free+ad supported version, and a for-cost version that removes the ads.
Right now, we have a specific list of supported phones, but plan to add every nand-unlocked phone as soon as possible. (There are a lot of variables to account for on multiple devices to make sure the process works )
Please feel free to provide me with any feedback you have, or feature requests in order to make this a great tool for all of android to utilize!

Sweet! Will be on the look-out for this! This more than likely be a companion to RomManager one day!
This looks very good!
I've been waiting for something like this to come out since I have zero coding skills. Great job and good luck.
where to download?
But, as always, how can we be sure third parties aren't adding a little nasty extra, such as a backdoor?
I prefer to get my kernel from the dev I've learnt to trust.

You can be paranoid, but until they give you a reason to be, don't... You don't worry about the stuff coming from team CM do you? They can do FAR worse with building an entire ROM! Looking forward to it!
Really looking forward to using this, great to have developers trying to make things better/easier for all the community, and i see this definitely coming in handy!

The netarchy kernels that were posted yesterday were missing something from the zip file. There should be new netarchy kernels in the list that are fixed - they should flash.
NOTE: There's currently an issue with modules not getting copied correctly for nexus s kernels. I have a fix pending soon.
Gonna download it now, thanks for making this. Currently on Netarchy.
Nexus S users rejoice!
The latest market release fixes the bug that made your wifi stop working after flashing! All should work now, and let me know if it doesn't.
I tested this two more times after the update. Note, both times I went into advanced settings and checked clear cache and dalvik cache (well, it was recommended for most users)
First attempt : Was attempting to flash Netatchy CM7 bfs kernel. During flash got an error along the lines of not being able to install on disk due to insufficient memory. I was asked to reboot and try again. On reboot, the phone went into the bootloader by itself with "no boot image" found. Rebooting would repeat this behaviour. Had to restore from CWM.
Second attempt : Same as above but, this time on reboot I got stuck on the Google logo scene. Waited at leas five minutes, did a battery pull; tried again, same result. Once again did a restore with CWM.
With regard to memory, I have around 700 MB of "internal memory " and 4GB of "external " memory.
Counting two before the update that's 4/4 failed attempts to flash a kernel using this app.

What version of busybox is required for this??
EDIT: I updated busybox, and ran into the 'no space' error as well. Rebooting showed that this app dorked up my boot. Luckily I was able to boot to recovery and navigate to sdcard\kernel-manager\netarchy\ and flash the zip manually. This app needs a lot of work..

What we have for you guys/girls today is a customised rom that is tailored to at&t...no time pop ups, stock appearance (as if made by them),time zones are correct, apn is correct, rooted for those who want to modify as you see fit,4g icons work as they should(thanks to my team)....no more flip flopping from h to 3g....mms is set at stock settings, mod to your preferences....as its rooted, those who tether should be able to do so...visual voicemail works fine (gsleon) everything works out of the box from my testing...no ciq..hardware accelerated....many tweaks went into this to make it as smooth, battery, memory friendly.... For best speed, disable animations and vibration/haptic feedback....

Having issues (I got the link before you took it down) with SD card.
The recovery will not mount it.
Moved it to internal card and flashed ok, but titanium back up is having SU issues when I change back up location to external SD card.
since this is a completely different type of rom, you mostly will not be able to restore everything as you did on your previous....

I'm now on xxlq2 and although sometimes it works okay, the wifi easily got disconnected and the signal reception is really poor.. Maybe this rom is the solution?

Not sure if intended, but when it says it wiped everything, I didn't thought it would wipe out everything in /sdcard as well. I would have died if my Titanium backup wasn't in external sd.
Oh yes, the rom also self reboots when flashed, so don't be alarmed if you are used to rebooting yourself.
Oh well...now I suddenly have 12gb free!

You added "This ROM will wipe data on system, cache and data."
That's not clear enough.....internal sd, aka /sdcard aka the 12gb that comes with the tablet is entirely wiped as well. You need to make that crystal clear.

Trust me, if my backup wasn't on external sd, I wouldn't be speaking so kindly to you.
And we have an extremely picky bunch of people here, if you know what I mean.
Honestly, if you have an update to this, I would recommend at the very least removing that reboot on finish command.

Btw can you list all the improvement things you stuffed in your rom? I see there's etc. there, i think it will great to see all the improvement list, and much better if you screenshot things like benchmark result I wonder if you stuffed things like audio enhancement too
Thanks ParotZ :good:
Nice kid you have
I installed your ROM + Dedrak kernel + Aroma tweaks, in took a while to get rid of systemUI FCs, but now everything I use seems to be working fine
A couple of sugestions if you dont mind:
1- It would be great to start in english, most people understands, easier to change to our own language.
2- Please dont wipe in your next versions, it is a pain to do all again, even Titanium backups are wiped...
Thanks again
Singha ROM + Aroma Pimp My ROM 1.2 Full + Nova launcher = seamless, JB-like, smooth and extremely fast performance. I am very impressed. Very. You'll notice the difference, whether you come from Zeta, CM9 or CM10.

MIUI V4.1 (2.9.21) :highfive:
I honestly take no credit for this Rom at all although I would like to give a big shout out & Thanks to everyone at XDA, Cyangenmod, and MIUI Dev team.
I, nor ANYONE else is responsible for what MAY happen to you and your phone, or anyone else and their phone.
So by moving forward to downloading you understand the risks of flashing a new ROM, and understand it's NOT anyone
else's fault except yours. . . No one put a gun to your head and said hey download and flash this now!
Code:
Installation Instructions. . .
Reboot into Recovery
Do a Nandroid Backup (optional)
[U][SIZE="3"]-[B]Wipe data/factory reset[/B]
-[B]Wipe cache partition/dalvik cashed[/B]
-[B]Go into Mounts & Storage and Format /system[/B][/SIZE][/U]
-Install the ROM
-reboot (as always first boot takes a bit longer)
-let sit for a few minutes
-reboot
-set up as you like
-reboot and enjoy
The Rom comes with Devil3_1.2.1_JellyBean kernel, but of course flash what ever JellyBean kernel your heart desire.
Code:
Issues::
1. GPS May be shot, let me know and I'll attempt to fix
2. Low memory space in /Data? Use an app to put your apps in the /system/app folder or use to app2sd
3. BLN doesn't work properly. [FIX? Disable Screen on in sms settings]
4. EFS (IMEI ERROR EVERY BOOT) [FIX? Unknown at this time]
5. Play Store Error: (app name) could not be downloaded due to an error; error retrieving information from server [RPC:AEC:0]
5a. Fix? Remove Google account and re-login .

Uploading Mirror now, for some reason Dev-host is down .
That's just awesome, that someone else is now working on MIUI for vibrant! But, how about normal DPI?

Yeah, see what had happen was when i first started porting it it was just for personal use so i did everything more of to my liking but I'd be happy to change things up and add/remove things. It's two things you can do as of now dealing with the DPI.
One: Download Build.prop editor from Google play, and change the DPI to 240 yourself. build.prop Editor by Nathan Campos
Two: Wait for the next update which will come with more options
Thank you for this!
Since J is dropping the miui port, this will be surely just as good!
I'd be more than happy to test out your experimental builds as I have done for J.
Also link does not work but mirror does.

What dpi does this run at? It's a bit too big for me, I prefer default or 210 (gonna change it)
Also,
On that pic, what is that on the second pic?

My comfort level of DPI is "182" as you can see in the 2nd post screenshots.
that picture in the first post is from en.miui.com it self.

Alright, I'm currently trying to update to 2.9.21 once successful I plan on releasing on the 28th or before. I have a working port, but I'm having the very amusing CM9+ IMEI problem.

Not sure if you or Jrongi use different sources, but restoring my desktop layout gets me a FC every single time, and we all know how much of a pain it is to setup the homescreen.
Also, stuff like the "hidden proximity" feature seem to not be present (when your proximity is hidden, like if its in your pocket, it won't let you do anything until its unhidden)

Yeah, J did his own thing, & his was ICS. and I'm not to sure on the restoring desktop layout problem, I'll look into that as well as the "Hidden Proximity", I do know it works during calls tho.

Not the ICS one.
He has a JB one as well, but is most likely going to drop support for it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552241
I'm guessing its because he uses miuiandroid, while you use miui.us
and I guess there are differences.

noooo, we used the same source on this current build, my next one is going to be miui.us unless i can get miuiandroid to work without bootloop, so you shouldn't be having a problem with 2.9.4 .
hows the battery on this?

A few things about this rom, firstly this is a port from a Samsung device, thus it features control panel options not normally found in some CM roms, you MAY need to go to the app store if this has no on-screen navigation buttons.
I have added MIUI apps not normally found to round it off as a MIUI clone, I think this is something you folks will like a lot since your CM10 base is so functional to begin with. : D
To get themes, go to themes in settings like you normally would, It's been replaced with a fully working clone of the MIUI theme manager which can apply themes, and can browse themes online.
you XT925 folks are going to have to inform me of the working status of this in order for progress to happen, if any is needed.
So are the same things that are wrong with CM 10 affecting this ROM too? (i.e. Bluetooth music)?
Have any rogers users tried it yet? does LTE work?
Doesnt work. I used cwm, but stuck in a bootloop

The same for me. Boot loop every time. I even formatted /system. Erased /data and /cache. Nothing works.
It seems to work, as you can see the start up welcome screen, but before you have a chance to click on the "next" button, the system reboots.
It's an issue with the base, I will upload a working one either tonite or tomorrow.
Ok, for the next revision of this I will need a dedicated tester to confirm the working order before I put a release up, please PM me with some kind of real-time contact info
WORKING BUILD COMIN' TONITE FOLKS. ;o

I can confirm it. I cannot restore my backups because the system cant find an SD. I can write to the internal and external SDs using the built in file manager, but for some strange reason, I cannot write to them using ROM Toolbox, nor any other program. also, for the same reason, I cannot download the Gapps file listed on the update part of the settings.
Thank you for your hard work.

Don't mess around with any OTA updates or it could mess up your phone; anyway I'm not sure exactly why this is happening, I am going to send a PM to another porter of this rom who is used to Moto Devices and see what they have to say!

Usb works for camera mode (used IP Webcam to stream), but does crash for media, get android.process.media stopped...
Good job man

Hello Tquetski. Any progress on this ROM? I guess you are really busy now, but I got so frustrated because you ae so close on this one.
I hope you have the time to continue working on this and future ROMs. Your continue support on porting for this phone is really appreciated.
Appreciate it as well. Also same USB problem as previous post about it. Same crash with media but when plugging in the cable or trying to use the gapps I used. Installed twice. First time the crash wouldn't allow adb, second time was with gapps from 20121130 and still crash on cable but adb works. Play store crashes with same media related file but youtube works. Perhaps youtube was already part of the rom....
Am uninstalling for now but can come back to it to test (Not a lot of time of the day for it though, but as much as I can) if you need it.
Also, don't know if it matters but I noticed that symlinks in the ROM don't work as expected, for example sdcard and /mnt/sdcard just return sdcard and /mnt/sdcard when typing ls. putting a trailing slash works, for example /sdcard/
I've noticed some apps rely on /mnt when they look for things.
update from above. Installed gapps from cm site and that went better and the store works. Titanium backups were on external drive and restored fine, as you'de expect. Titanium backup states, upon launch, Media Storage: not mounted but also then displays the correct amount of available storage for it.
So for example it says:
-----------------------------------
Root Acces: ok
Hypershell: yes
...
Media Storage: Not mounted
Backup Directory: /storage/sdcard1/Titanium
Then at the bottom
System Rom: 1.53 gb (1.09 GB Free)
Internal: *looks like the correct amount*
Media: *looks like the correct amount*
Ext. Sd Card: *looks like the correct amount*
-------------------------------------
Internal and Media in the above part are slightly differant than what df at the terminal says but not by much so it seems that Titanium certainly sees the space there in the second part but doesn't see it as the space its supposed to use.
I hope you can fix it. Thanks for getting this far.
One last edit; stock rom behaves the same way with symlinks.
File permissions of mounted internal sd card look the same, from memory, so its not something so simple overlooked at that level.
Happy to have been of no help
