okay, I upgrade my n70f00 from ics stock to jb stock then root with philz kernel. everything went fine. then I notice my phone a bit slow, memory almost full (left less then 100mb out of 800mb) and everytime I boot I get 'android is upgrading, app statting.." notification. i want to reset, but when I do backup with cmw always fail (never backup before). do some this and that, i found that i can't access folder '\data\lost&found'. each time I click that folder using any rooted explorer I have the phone restart. I search and found sgs tools app that can delete corrupted media file, and it did. but I still can access '\data\lost&found' folder (keep restarting).
any idea at all?
thanks in advance..
Did you wipe all the partitions before flashing jb? You can download philz kernel (zip file) corresponding to your rom and flash it from stock recovery.. Go back to recovery (cwm) and wipe data, preload, system, cache, dalvik cache and put the phone in download mode and flash jb for your country or any country using pc odin.. Do backup anything important before wiping..

I didn't wipe anything prior to jb upgrading, hoping everything went fine so I dont have to reinstall alot of apps after upgrading. Now, I can't do full backup because it keep rrstarting when I do full backup. So I'll try several things before doing full wipe and odin.
Thanks

if you are already rooted and if phone gives you enough time to backup your apps you can try using Titanium backup pro to backup your apps.

yes, I'm root. ok, i'll try that. btw, is there any risk of bricking if I do odin with 'corrupted' system folder ('system\data\lost&found')?
thanks again
No. If you put the phone into download mode and flash stock rom from pc odin it should work, but it is advisable that you do wipe the /system /data /preload before you flash stock rom again. Make sure you are on safe kernel before wiping.

quick question, if you do a factory reset with odin and start from scratch, should you delete everything that is on your internal SD? Would that be a full complete wipe?
That is a FULL wipe but thats not what im talking about. Just the internal phone stuff.
what is formatted when you click to format /boot? for some reason I always thought that formatted the boot loader so I dared not touch that, but now I'm realizing how stupid it would be to even put that option there and how many more phones would have been bricked at this point. anyway when I install a new rom I pretty much wipe everything (including dalvik) except for /boot and /emmc ( I even formated the external recently but moved back images, efs backup, and avatar), then mount /sdcard, insert rom then flash, fix permissions.
formats the boot animation?
or after the VIBRANT logo
it's a ritual for me whenever i install a new rom to go through this installation method. I also notice that i tend to experience far less "bugs" then others.
Odin to Stock JFD

Wipe Dalvik Cache
Flash Rom Again

Just being curious because some say it isn't cleared in the Factory Reset. Some ROM and kernel devs do suggest clearing Dalvik Cache after doing a Factory Reset because it prevents some apps giving FCs after flashing a new ROM.
Side note: I wipe dalvik about once every two weeks whether I am flashing or not. Helps with cleaning up corpses and getting better RAM usage. Thanks for the info Alan.

What you using to reinstall apps and/or app data? Everytime I install a new ROM, I lose all my data connected to an app. For example, I play Drag Racing and you have to create a new login name everytime I install a new ROM. I would like to at least save the data related to that app.

After reading about all the advantages of having a rooted phone, and after throughly reading up on the process, I finally successfully rooted my phone.
I'm currently running KL3 and now I want to upgrade to a newer stock firmware.
After backing up my apps with Titanium Backup, I want to do a full wipe and then install the newer stock rom all the while not losing root.
I did read Dr Ketan's post describing the steps in going from a rooted f/w to a newer stock f/w without losing root. But it seems that the process involved using CWM app and going straight from one f/W to another. It never mentioned about doing a full wipe (if so desired) just prior to flashing using CWM.
I know its not required, but still i want to do it. I like clean installs with no traces of previous code.
I did not see a wipe function on the CWM app. How would you recommend doing this wipe prior to flashing without losing root.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
You do wipes from CWM Recovery. The way to do it is:
- press Volume up + Home + Power and hold
- the phone will reboot into CWMR
- here you move up and down with your volume button
- select 'wipe data/factory reset' (1st wipe)
- select 'wipe cache' (2nd wipe)
- go to 'advanced' and select 'wipe dalvik cache' (3rd wipe)
- go back
- reboot system
Ya i have not mentioned, b'coz it is not must. Many of users want to keep data intact, though I also recommend as well follow to wipe data prior to update ROM.
Chasmodo have already mentioned it, how to perform, And yes Factory reset(wipe data) won't erase root/CWM.

I'm assuming you mean it won't erase the CWM that you get to doing the up/menu/power button but the the CWM version under Application will get wiped

It will delete all your user apps, including the CWM app, but you can always reinstall it (takes all of 1 minute), or flash custom roms directly from recovery (install zip from SD card option).

chasmodo i do believe this
Cwm is system application, neither version of cwm (cwr or cwm app) can erase with wipe data or factory reset
It can only erase if you reflash rom without selecting 'keep cf root' in cwm or without 'ever root' in mobile odin or flashing with pc odin.
Factory reset/Wipe off data can't erase anything under system ROM
Even if you have manually put any application under system/app folder, won't b erase.

another quick question on this topic....
if I do perform the following steps:
1. do a full backup using titanium backup
2. do wipe using CWM(i know i don't have to do this step but want to)
3. upgrade to a newer stock rom
at this point is there a way to restore my titanium backup without having to reload the titanium backup app?
the reason i ask is that if i must reload this app in order to do my restore, i'll have manually re-enter wireless and/or my access point names in order to connect back to the internet to re-install titanium backup.
i know its not a lot of work to do this, but i want to do the minimal amount of manual re-entering phone config info.
any ideas?
thanks
No.. Not possible. You should install Titanium Backup up. then only you can restore the other apps. but, if you want to install only Apps, then open Titanium backup file and copy all apk to device then install one by one manually.

For that you need to have Titanium BU APK saved(hint google for the APK it is available). You can just install the application and direct it to back up location and you would have all your data w/o setting up anything manually.

Do this
Backup with CWM, in CWM just select backup.
Wipe data, you can do it in recovery(vol up + home+power)
select wipe cache, wipe data
Now update ROM with CWM (dont forget to keep CF Root, when asked)
upgrade CWM (according you new ROM)
Now , go to CWM, select 'Restore'
N select only 'Data', uncheck rest of all.
Done, without touching titanium

You have to keep rom file in firmware folder of ext memory card
Then have to select flash stock rom in cwm app
N have to select keep cf root when prompt.
3. Keep cf root option, won't update kernel, b'coz u have to select 'keep cf root' to keep your root intact
4. Backup created as shown u on answer 1, n you have to restore data only b that backup you have created is of old rom, you want just data from old rom to new rom.

are these same steps if i wanted to install a custom rom or are these steps for stock roms only?
Is there anything Titanium can do that CWM Recovery can not do?
Thanks
Custom ROM installation depends on ROM, you will find installation note on corresponding ROM thread. usually custom ROM installed with flashable zip, tht you have to perform in CW recovery.
Titanium hav control on each n every individual application, CWM is mass restore.

Now,if i was to do a CWM recovery mode backup on a stock rom, then do a wipe and install a custom rom, then at this point could I do a CWM 'data only' restore on this custom rom and it work properly?
Thanks
Yes, you can restore 'data only' in custom ROM
But if you want to switch back completely as it was on Custom ROM(same ROM)
Then just restore full backup.
If you have made any changes in custom ROM(e.g.different custom), or if you have any error/bug in previous custom ROM, then just restore data.

If you've flashed a CM7 rom there's no way to restore a stock rom from backup taken through CWM5. The filesystem format is not compatible.
You'll need to flash stock from Odin.
Yeah, flash a stock firmware with Odin and then when you have done, install cwm recovery (because installing a new firmware erases everything so also your cwm recovery that you had) and try to restore your backup.

format all wipe all install this:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962762
You can not recovery stock rom over a CM 7 because the last one reformat the internal partition to EXT4 uncompatible with stock rom. So flash a stock rom with ODIN (possible the same you used for the nandroid backup) than restore.

I think you need to do a full format using ODIN..and reinstall CWM and install CM7 and try to recover your backup from CWM.:good:
I was using Ultimate ROM XXLSZ_JB_4.1.2_v5.2 without any problems apart from poor battery performance.
However, I attempted to install Rocket ROM-V1-XXLSZ and have now got myself into trouble.
I followed the instructions to flash the latest XXLSZ-OXA cwm kernel and then flashed the Rocket ROM. It worked ok but I would like to return to the Ultimate ROM and kernel I had before.
I have a pevious full Nandroid backup of the phone (made with ROM Manager Premium) of the Ultimate ROM and the PhilZ kernel it came with but cannot restore it. I get the error "MD5 Mismatch" and the restore aborts.
Even if I reflash the original Ultimate ROM with all the usual wipes, the XXLSZ-OXA cwm kernel is still there and I still can't restore from the Nandroid backup. I tried re-flashing PhilZ 3.1 kernel separately and then the Ultimate ROM file but this didn't work either. The kernel is still the same.
Can anyone tell me how to either
1. completely wipe the phone so I can install Ultimate ROM AND the built-in PhilZ 3.1 kernel.
OR
2. get the phone to the point where I can restore from my Nandroid backup which I assume will restore the earlier version of the ROM at the same time.
I hope I've explained the situation clearly enough.
Thanks in advance.

You don't want to restore your nandroid. It is a bad backup.
In philz recovery go to mounts and storage. Format system data preload cache. Them go to advanced from main page and wipe dalvik
Flash ROM. Guaranteed to work.

Thanks. I know I can flash the ROM again but I was hoping to learn why the Nandroid backup no longer works.
Since posting, I gave up trying to restore the Nandroid backup, did all the usual wipes, re-flashed the Ultimate ROM and re-installed all my apps from scratch so my phone is more or less back to normal (Incidentally, I notice that no matter how many times I do this, all my music and photos are still there even though they're stored on the internal sd card. Dunno why).
Most of the ROMs I've tried have the kernel built in so all I needed to do was do the usual wipes and then flash. If I didn't like the ROM, I just wiped again and restored the Nandroid backup using CWM (Vol Up + Menu + Power) and the phone was back to its previous state.
The only thing I did different this time, as per the Rocket ROM instructions, was flash a kernel first. I may have done something wrong with that step or messed it up somehow. Even when I flashed an earlier version of the PhilZ kernel, the restore still didn't work. I've still a lot to learn about ROMs and Kernels, I guess.
As I said, I have successfully restored from Nandroid backups many times before this without any problem after experimenting with different custom ROMs. Can I ask you why Nandroid is a bad backup? Is it a problem with ROM Manager?
(One problem I've always had with ROM Manager is that if I choose to write the backup to the external sd card, it falls over with error messages. If I choose the option to backup to the internal card, it works but writes the BACKUP TO THE EXT CARD ANYWAY! I cannot get a reply from the dev about this).
Is there a better, more reliable backup method you'd recommend that does the same thing as the Nandroid?
I notice that different ROM managers use different CWM Recovery versions ie ROM Manager Reboot Recovery = 6.0.1.2, ROM Toolbox Rebooter = CWM 6.0.2.8 (same as Vol Up + Menu + Power). Could that be part of the problem?
Sorry for the long winded post.

So I created a backup using the PhilZ bootloader. Then I restored the original firmware using odin because I needed to get the original gallery app. Now I'm trying to restore the backup, but I'm having problems. The first time I tried I got an error asking me to select a backup account or something. I did it again, this time doing a full wipe (with preload and everything) and then wiping cache and dalvik cache. I am still having problems however. Gmail doesn't stay open, trying to open the settings force closes touchwiz, and the phone and messaging apps have disappeared. Any ideas what's going on or how I can fix this? Anything I can do to give you guys more detail?
