[Q] Is MHL audio out supported? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Connected htc One to TV via mhl to HDMI. Video works fine but audio still from phone speakers. Does the phone support audio out via MHL?
If I connect Galaxy S2 to the same TV with the same cable both audio and video a transmitted to TV.

Possibly you need the 11 pin MHL(Note 2, and S4 I believe), and not the 5 pin(which the S2 uses). I am unsure though as I don't use MHL.

Anyone else care to weigh in on this?
I don't think the One uses 11 pin MHL.... I have had experience with HDMI and linux... My guess is it's the TV or an android setting. lol >.> I know that's not very helpful.

Guess it was an occasual bug. The next day everything worked fine. Hope it wont happen again.
Thanks everyone for support.

[Q] HDMI Dock digital audio out

Just bought the dock thing and tried to put it to work with the HDMI out on a philips HD tv, and it happens that there is no audio at all. I know the analog speakers are disabled when the HDMI is working, the audio provided by the HDMI is really not working.
I have no clue of what is happenning. I am getting just the image fom the tab but no audio at all.
I hope someone knows what is going on and help me.
I'd really appreciate the help.
tks.
Hi. The problem seems to be application dependent. When I use RockPlayer and VitalPlayer digotal audio is there through a docking station. Other players including stock one output just analog audio. Regards. K
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk
Tks mate but when I used the rock player I am still getting no sound at all. Its not just the rock player but even the native one or any music player. The sound isn't passing through the hdmi cable.

I will conect the tab to the TV set in few minutes to double check my findings once more. Btw I use the latest firmware MCD. Regards K

Actually, I can now confirm that I have digital audio output from the docking station with any of the mwdia players including the stock one. When initially started, all the players mute the audio when the tab is in the station. Pls volume up through hardware keys and you will have the audio output. Regards K

The volume is up when plugin to the dock and yet I get no sound changed the volume up and down but no answer. Have two Philips televisions and different models here and on both I get the same issue, no digital sound. The analog sound is fine when plugin the av cables. Now I wonder if the hdmi cable isn't working or is the tv that doesn't like the dock.

Can you post the details of the cable including it's version number. It may be you have an incorrect cable.
About the cable: e324540 awm style 20276 80°c 30v vw-1 hdmi 1.3 cable hentek.

I bought the dock to connect the tab to my projector and I found out that when the hdmi is in use all the audio will go to the hdmi cable.
Now my projector has very poor speakers and no audio out. I really hate that I can't use my Bluetooth speakers when using the dock.
There is some way to split the hdmi signal in video and analog audio?

Still have video and no sound
So, I still have the problem. I have the dock connected to power from the supplied (5v 2a) adapter. I then connect it to my tv. Video works great. I also speculated that maybe I had to use the 3.5mm jack for sound but that isn't working either.
I also have an adapter for rca-out and that's working fine, but I'd rather have the better quality available to me via HDMI.
I've got no solution yet. As I did, put here your the specs of your cable, maybe its something about that cable tho.

hdmi cable info
So, it's still not working for me. I don't have the box the other cable came in so today I went out and got a new one. I now have one of these:
http://www.digitalwarehouse.nl/hdmi-kabel-type-a-type-c-mini-2m.html
It is a type-A <-> type-C high speed HDMI Cable. I told the guy when I bought it that it had to be v 1.3 and he said it was though I don't see that on the box any where. I know for sure that my original cable was a v 1.3 because I remember reading that on the box when I bought it.... The only other info I see on the packaging is this:
Transfer rate: 10,2 Gbit/s
BandWidth 340 MHz
ARC audio return channel
My problem persists and to eliminate other potential causes, I've now tried it on another TV as well: no dice
It could very well be the cable. I have had some HDMI cables not output sound from DVD players. Here is the cable I bought and it outputs everything, sound, video the works.

Having my tab on my TV rocks
right cable
Well, I live in sweden. Ordering from Amazon is not ideal for me. Is there any other way I can get an indication that it might be the cable? I am loathe to keep buying cables assuming that it's the issue... I mean, is there something on the cable itself that I can look for? Certains pins or something?
/geir
I dont know that much about HDMI cables, does kinda seem pointless to keep buying cables.
Possibly google it? I would say try it on something else, however nothing else you own probably need A to C hdmi connection.
All I know is thats the cable I bought and it works perfect for me on my 4 year old projection LCD
Tested the cable with something else...
Ok, so my daughter has a camcorder which will take a mini hdmi cable. I just tested both cables with her camcorder and both of them give me video and sound...
If the cable is the issue it's definitely not because it isn't at all capable of handling audio
Any chance anyone has any other ideas? I just have this feeling there is something else going on... Like maybe I need to flash to a new version or something.
I have a european tab, in case that matters.

[Q] HDMI adapter issue (MHL)

Hi,
I just received an OEM Micro USB to HDMI adapter today.
I connected my Note to the adapter and then to the HDMI cable of my TV.
Unfortunately there is no HDMI signal on the TV side.
Now, I don't know howto activate TV output on the Note. I don't even know if that's possible.
Can anyone guide me on how to activate HDMI output on the Galaxy Note ?
Should I make any settings ?
Should I play a video ? (or would it give out video from HDMI even at home screen ?)
Should I power the phone and/or the HDMI adapter through USB ?
Thanks.

Connect HDMI cable to MHL adapter, and other end into TV. (duh...)
Plug your charger cable into the MHL adapter. (output won't work without this)
Plug your MHL adapter into Note. (no configuring required!)
Everything you do on your Note will be mirrored on your TV/Screen, at the Note's native 1280x800 resolution. Plain and simple!
Video's that are played via the MHL adapter will be played at their own native resolution, up to and including 1080p.
Enjoy!
thank you.
it doesn't work unfortunately.
maybe my adapter is not working but it passes power through USB.
how can I understand if it really doesn't pass HDMI ?

It's possible that you have a faulty adapter. It should just be plug and play, but you have to make sure that the adapter is receiving external USB power in order for it to work.
ok; it works now.
the micro USB connector was not fully connected...
thanks.
Similar issue
Hi, me to facing similar issue. The MHL adapter when connected does not show any notification on the screen. The only thing it does is charging the phone. Does it mean its a faulty adapter?
i hope i am answering my own question but still if there is anything which i may be missing here

and what rom and kernel are you on ?
I'm on stock running ICS and I get funky results, sometimes it works for a minute or two sometimes just a few seconds. The problem seems to be on the TV, a Sony Bravia, the HDMI setting has to be Wide for picture quality (it has zoom, smart zoom, wide, 16:9 and 4:3) but as soon as there is some glitch in receiving data from the phone the TV begins to scroll through those settings to regain a signal and I can't force a setting on wide for the HDMI connector, only for one of the SCART connectors.
The frustrating part is that it works flawlessly when I connect an Asus Transformer. Could it be the MHL's USB connector? If that is the case how can I check it?

Just in case anyone relooks this up.
Connect everything. Then REBOOT PHONE/NOTE. The TV will then detect it auto.
Hope this helps someone !!
It didnt help me... my sony bravia 32" tv just wont show the gnote's video. the same adapter works fine on my samsung 32" tv but not on the sony. I have even upgarded the sony tv's firmware too. tried changing to "Wide Zoom" settings and other things but still no video showing, although the tv does know there is something plugged in to HDMI port 1.
Anyone else got ideas?

lol, just don't try that any sony device to work together with another samsung device, this is a general rule for electronic trademarks.
*Frankly my friend, I lost a complete day trying my sony ericcson bt handset to work with my note, no success at all, so, I just bought a samsung one and everything gone well.
that sux, bluetooth is a standard and im sure there are no variants... they are cheap, so i will buy another one from ebay and see if it is bcos of the adpater and not the TV.

This did help me using a Galaxy Note and a cheap no-name MHL adapter I bought of eBay. Had it connected to the HDMI input on my Dell WFP3008 monitor.

USB OTG & OEM Samsung MHL HDMI HDTV Adapter Review

I bought a Cozy brand 5-pin USB OTG cable from the Samsung After Service Center in South Korea. Interesting enough, they didn't sell their own. So anyway, seems to work great. I made a video showing just how awesome a wireless keyboard and mouse works on the Note 2, particularly the split screen which can all be enabled and works so much better with a mouse.
Video Review:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fwFUqfTMWw
I also bought an OEM MHL HDMI HDTV adapter (11-pin) from Samsung. I saw that they only had the one for the Galaxy S3, and I asked them if it was compatible with the Note 2 that I had. They said no, and that I should wait for the Note II one with a different model number. When I tried to buy it, they refused to sell it to me saying they didn't want to have to deal with a possible return. So knowing that I know more than who I was talking to having done my research, I came back a few hours later, saw a different person at the desk, and just told them I was going to buy the Galaxy S3 one. There are definitely some interesting things I learned with this cable. Seems to only want to do 1080i on my 1080p computer monitor over HDMI at 60Hz. But the upside is, 60Hz is very smooth. I keep hearing that on the S3, 1080p was choppy. I'm not sure if this is the case on our mighty fine Galaxy Note 2's with a faster processor and GPU.

Additional Info:
The Galaxy Note 2 supports both 11-pin and 5-pin micro USB connectors.
The USB OTG (On-The-Go) adapters only come in 5-pin, and works fine with the Galaxy Note 2.
I connected the OTG adapter to a USB hub, which was fine, and 2 different devices worked fine independently, but not both at the same time. My guess is, it is a power limitation that the Galaxy Note 2 provides through the micro USB jack.
If you want to buy a HDTV (MHL HDMI) adapter for the Galaxy Note 2, it is the exact same adapter for that Galaxy S3 that is 11-pin, even though the model numbers are different. 5-pin MHL adapters don't work on the Galaxy Note 2.
The HDTV adapter comes with a micro USB jack (5-pin), but although you may think it is a great idea to plug an OTG cable in there, it doesn't work that way. You MUST plug in your power cable. Why it was hard for me to find this info on the net or a youtube, I'm not sure. I guess I should have read the manual, but I think was more of a design thing. You wouldn't read a manual on how to plug in cables for plugging in HDMI cables and micro USB would you?
I can only get 1080i working at 60Hz even though I know for sure my monitor does 1080p. If someone can get it working with 1080p I would like to know how smooth it is. [email protected] is actually pretty smooth (I think 60 fps).
When outputting video, it only grabs the video stream, so it won't output overlayed subtitles on the TV monitor.
The Galaxy Note 2 gets pretty warm, maybe hot, especially because it is charging through the MHL cable that is powered.
Make Surround speakers work
Hi,
Just tried that with official Samsung S3/GN2 apdater.
That works great. I have connected it to my AV receiver and its indicates Video: HDMI 1080p Audio: PCM 44.1 khz 5.1 ch
Are you sure your video is encoded in 1080p ?
Also, got another question. In the settings menu (Accessory > HDMI audio output), I have selected "Surround" for HDMI audio output.
But when I play Dolby Digital HD video samples I found on the net, I do not manage to have any sound coming from my surround speakers. But my AV receiver detects a 5.1 stream.
I use MX Player, with codec ARMv7 NEON. And I've tried both HW and SW decoder.
If I connect the HDMI cable to my PC instead of my GN2 and I play the same files, then I get an incredible sound demo in my home cinema installation.
Have you tried that ?
Both the S3 USB OTG and HDMI work fine on the note 2, just confirming what you said above. Tried them on my t-mobile version and my friends at&t version.
You mentioned you could only get one thing going on your hub - you should always use a powered usb hub when using OTG cables. You will be able to run much, much more then the meager power provided by the device.
I've also been tracking sudden death through OTG cases - not one that i've seen so far has happened with a powered hub, all non-powered hubs or direct shot to the accessory equipment. I get the thought it has something to do with power flow from the phone out, but strictly anecdotal evidence at this point in comparing cases.
(sudden death through OTG is very rare, I wouldn't worry about it. Not using OTG because of it is like not driving your car because you could get into an accident.)
By mistake i brought samsung galaxy S3 tv hdmi cable now its not working with galaxy J2.

No sound with HDMI out and ICS update

after some testing sound is missing while using hdmi plus all setting for hdmi has been removed...
has anyone else tested hdmi?
Used it last night no issues. Did not see settings though. Sound good.
Sent from my LG-P920 using xda app-developers app
did some more tests i did get sound to work but seems to be picky now,
i am running a long cable, same cable works good with everything else but the phone now.
if connect the phone directly to the tv i get sound.
not sure if its an issue with my denon receiver, need to test more.
I have the same problem
Hi. I just update my thrill from GB to ICS with a stock rom an i missed the sound from HDMI port. Has any ones know how solve this?
Do I have to use the MHL adapter instead of my old micro HDMI?
Thanks
i have the micro adapter, some thing with the output ( frequency ) or quality has changed as its hit or miss on where i connected to it.
what hdmi port tv vs receiver and length of cable.

MHL woes

I have a Note 2, a (kinda bleh) Cable Matters mhl adaptor, an Amazon hdmi cable, and an older Philips tv. Each part of the setup has been verified to work but for some reason on this tv I only get audio through headphones plugged into the tv. I tested the tv with my Samsung 7.0+ and it's mhl adaptor (best mhl I've had, flawless) and sound comes through just fine. Nothing comes through the tv's speakers when the Note 2 is attached. Any ideas?
