Is this possible? I want to have the camera app made by HTC rather than the one on CM10.1 I found that the sense camera app was much easier to work with. Is it possible to just an apk file?

Highly unlikely that you'll be able to get it to work, at least until the HTC One Nexus Edition is available(but I still highly doubt it). The HTC camera requires some of the Rosie/Sense framework or camera specific drivers in order to operate, as does things like the Sense launcher or other HTC-specific applications.

[MOD] Desire Camera R2 Based on various kernel mods
The apk alone won't work because like many HTC apps it requires the HTC framework (whatever that means). A stripped down framework has been made to work with the camera.

thank you wind0zer, I amm trying this method now as i write this.
UPDATE:The method didnt work, i got stuck on splash screen, so i had to nandroid restore.
The cyanogen camera is just horrible - it's putting me off the whole ROM.
Is there anyone who has successfully reverted back to the Gingerbread 2.3.6 camera - which is a very good camera app.
Also, can someone explain how to allow permissions on an apk app?

Yes..so many people complain about it. The cyanogenmod source people should do something about it.

Hi all,
Try camera zoom fx as it is the best camera app i've tried in the market. I have the .apk i'm not sure is it OK to upload it here as it is a paid app. I can give it to anyone who needs. (even upload here if it is ok ) Unfortunately, no updates will be available coz it is not purchased from the market. though all functionalities are perfectly working

Posting a paid apps apk is warez, and not allowed by xda.
Don't even offer to give people the apk, you could get in trouble with the mods.
Also support the dev's and pay for a great app.

Hello,
I've tried to install the stock sms apk and it won't install or it will flat out not open. I've even flashed gapps over a sense ROM. I need to use the asop sms because i haven't found any other apps that can ad pictures from skydrive. Is there a way to get it to run?
Thanks
Have you tried pushing it to /system? Don't know if it'd work but it's worth a try.

I've seen that. MMS doesn't work right now.
The Cyanogenmod and GPE rom camera apps are terrible compared to the Sense camera, in my opinion. Can anyone get it ported please?
Nope

maybe due to different framework

The Sense Apps all rely on the closed sourced HTC frameworks. They can not be ported to non Sense Roms. Many have been trying for years and it has always failed.
Therefore it's not as simple as just copying some Sense libs over to the CM install in order to run the apps that call them; the Senseness permeates more aspects of the ROM than that.
(Not trying to second guess anyone, I honestly just want to understand why I have to give up my dream of simultaneous CM + good pictures on the One.)

Right as the all sense apks need the HTC framework files.
This is what you give up when you move to an open source distro like cm. You lose all the cool closed source stuff for open source that you can edit freely.

It's not necessarily that simple as most of the 'stock' apps rely on the LG framework. If you want to test it then download one of the stock-based ROMs and extract the .apk from there.
Alternatively try one of the many camera apps fromt the Play Store or from our 'Apps' section.
