which rom should i use to camarom? - Motorola Droid 3

Here is my project: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2220207
but i have some troubles:
which rom i could use? minimoto, mavrom, steeldroid, stock ... etc.
also, there is any easy way how i can discover what item is important for my purposes, and what i can delete? or i'll need to delete one by one, and flash at every change, to see if still working? and at build.prop, which lines i can remove?

I remember you wanted to make a ultra-lite rom...then use minimoto, i think it's the best ROM for speedy purposes...
Anyway i didn't really get what's your need...you want to build a rom to switch with safestrap? i mean, no CM10.1 camera right?

ok, thanks!
it's a rom there will have just camera, home, explorer (just essential apps), etc. you will need to reboot your phone to use it as a 3rd system. but i'll try to understand the safestrap, and replace the things i need to do what i want.

Custom Roms for the milestone

I thought a thread would be nice where you guys can show us your custom roms and where to download it ;-).
There are no custom ROMs for the Milestone, because of his locked bootloader. There are some personalized Nandroid backups, but they aren't true custom ROMs.
However, some hackers are working on a kernel module for the Milestone that could load a customized kernel after the original one starts.
But i thougt i read something yesterday about that the bootloader is cracked now.

Cracking the bootloader would be very hard, the only thing that is currently possible is a kexec attack, thou it's not ready for normal users ; )

pulsar roms. they arent roms, just a script to add and remove apks. but i think most of the mods are now part of 2.1 oficially realeased.
What abaut just replacing /system partition file by file from some 2.2 ROM and see how it works. Though since kernel must not be touched, many things like WIFI tether will not work this way anyway. But in theory, wouldn't this make an almost 2.2 ROM for Milestone? Like all the spedups, louncher, new gmail app and stuff, that is not related to kernel right?
Sense ui for Milestone
Theres a sense ui rom that i found, looks like that the developer abandoned it, iv tried to port it into my milestone...but im just a novice user...so dont know how to tune the rom...hope some one here can further develop it...

Applications are not the problem, for that you only have to edit few lines in
/system/build.prop
ro.build.version.sdk=8
Click to collapse
and probably all references from version 2.1-update1 to 2.2, e.g.:
ro.build.version.release=2.2

Then you should be able to install android 2.2 apps...
As far as the whole system partition is concerned, there might be some dependencies for some libraries that require parts of the new kernel, you are free to try that out... Just don't forget to create a nandroid backup
Also the "new"-jit-speed up is already possible with the 2.1, it's just buggy as hell
Wifi tether might work, for the same reason that android-wifi-tether works with milestone with only su permissions, because the kernel for 2.0 included the necessary module(s) : )

i have come from a htc hd2 so i like to change roms alot.
what should i do with the galaxy note ?
i would like ICS so what are the steps ?
any help please
Have a good search round this forum and make sure you understand clearly how everything works before you decide to start flashing, I came from the HTC Desire and the Galaxy Note is a whole different ball game. Enjoy you new Galaxy Note
is the official ics update any good ?
what does rooting do ?
I personally didn't like the official ICS update, that is when I decided to flash a custom ROM.
Rooting gives you more control over your phone, lets you install apps like "Titanium Backup" that require root permissions to run.
i have the la6 kernel

Apparently this really depends on your location. For example the one Samsung released here (France, 4 months after being announced, too) was so broken it bricked a number of terminals and was subsequently withdrawn. With no word of when a fix will come.
Apparently other areas had working systems. One would think it would just be a matter of strings to translate and a few apps to package, so it's all very puzzling to someone who isn't familiar with Android (I've been intimately familiar with Linux for more than 20 years, and Unix before that, but I still don't get it).
And then, as you'll see by browsing the forums, many people seem to have issues with ICS. Issues that (IMO) just don't seem to make much sense in a system that would have been tested for a couple days by an intern somewhere...
OTOH, many people apparently have no issues.
So as with everything on the network, I suppose YMMV, take it with a grain of salt, yada yada... void where applicable.
See if anything is reported about your proposed (if any) update. Then decide if it's worth it (maybe it is).

Same as on any other terminal ? Lets you access functions that are typically "off limits". Among the most useful ones, you can now read/write anywhere. Which means you can allow/deny anything for any application. And notably block all those silly annoying bundled apps so they won't want to update any more, or, if you like, even start (a process known as freezing).
Have a look at the videos in my signature once..
For Rom official one is good but custom ones are great..
All roms are unique in their own way...the ones that stand out as totally awesome are Paranoid Android and TMT Hybrid IMUI...
Its your choice...

1. probably, but make sure in paranoid thread,
2. I assume you have done cwm backup, which will be rather useless when switching ROMs, having tb (i.e.Titanium Backup) backup you can generally restore your apps and data between roms (except for the system ones)

And that was the right thing to have for the time being, too bad you hurried on to ICS. In my opinion, when you have a new phone, you have to know it, enjoy it, love it ( ? ), installed a couple of hundred apps, and then, after being more than familiar whith it, it would be time to upgrade it, tweak it, etc., so the change could be apreciatte. It's like eating always the desert at first, withouth eating the soup and the salad.
As for rooting, if you had to ask, you probably did't need to root, but since that's already done, I'll give you a hint. There is one VERY interesting thing about rooting which anyone would find usefull. The posibility of using a Firewall. In this way, you could not only block those annoying ads (and save a little battery since the ads have to download from Internet). You can also protect your device from troyan / spy applications, which are increasingly expanding in android. For example, a simple sound board app, or a screen saver, ¿why should it use your internet connection? ¿To what ends?
Enjoy the Note, it's a hell of a phone.

[Q] Need help to understand efs/imei-restoring guides(GT-i9000) (noob-alert)

-
This was the original post:
When I flashed to slimbean, my smartphone stopped being a telephone. The simcard didnt work.
I have read a lot of guides, and from what I understand, I think my efs has been corrupt.
Problem is: I don't understand what that means. All guides I can find are very technical with lots of abbrevations and really hard to understand for a root/rom-noob like me.
Here's what I did to ruin things:
1: used odin to update from eclair to 2.3.6
2: used CF-Root to install slimbean
This process took me about five hours.

Type *#06# on dial pad and check IMEI if different from the one behind the battery. If it's different, you can follow solution on this post:

Use the most simple step first. I think it's the copy-paste step, clear caches, then reboot. It worked for me (my IMEI was modified too previously when i flashed a JB Rom).
If it didn't work, follow the more complicated step.
Good luck.

The copying didn't work. I copyed from sd/backup/efs, and then turned off the phone, reset caches.
I didn't have the nv.log file in either folders though. I also tried copying the whole folder.
So now I'll try the 2nd solution:
go back to GB 2.36, use a JVU ROM + Root, upgrade to ICS CM 9 and then to CM10
New question:
I know how to get GB 2.36 and root it, but how do I "upgrade to ICS CM 9 and then to CM 10"? And what is a JVU rom?
Tooooo many abbreviations!!111!1!

Try this:
First step:
Flash JVU based Custom Rom e. g. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386292&page=8)
JVU-Rom: Custom Rom based on GB 2.3.6 firmware I9000XXJVU. (Have a look at sammobile.com for this original firmware.)
Second:
CM9: Flash CyanogenMod 9 ROM (based on ICS): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592131&page=111
Third:
Cm10: Flash CyanogenMod 10 ROM (based on JB): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778526&highlight=cm+9&page=236

EDIT:
By the way: when I am done with all this, I'll need a new rom. If anyone know a rom with the features i want, please let me know:
* fast, and without bloatware
* all the features of stock
* no background programs using the data/internet
* swype
I know I could customize this myself, but if theres allready a rom good to go with these features, that would save me some time.

now you can flash cm9 folow by cm10.
BTW what does you mean by all the features for stock? from what i know is samsung Kris and FM donnot come with the rom. for FM you can use spritFM.
For no background programs using the data/internet --> you can do it this way if you are om cm10,1, go to setting --> Data Usage -->select the app you want to restrict background data and done.

As Samtan4326 wrote: just flash CM9 then CM10.
But don't forget to save your IMEI when its possible. You could use ADB -> have a look at forum.
I'd suggest that you make a backup of your current ROM with the ROM Manager app or CWM Recovery. Use ES Datei Explorer to get the backup file from ROM Manager directory to your external card and then by Phone Explorer to your PC. Then you'll be able to flash it back anytime you want.
For a fast start: I personally like the original CM ROMs (cyanogenmod.org) or CM based ROMs. (Our devs are incredible!) They're generally based near stock ware, stable, fast and have low battery drain.
But you'd think about a custom Kernel, too. ROM and Kernel work together.
Take regard of the build: stable, RC, Beta, Alpha, Nightly... Have a look at what the devs tell you about working features and not-working...:fingers-crossed: Try what fits you best.
Yeah, this community is great!

You mentioned you wanted a Rom fast and without bloatware, with gesture typing.

Which ROMs am I allowed to customize?

Hi,
I just set up all of that ROM developing stuff (like cygwin and kitchen). Afterwards I need a "clean" ROM as a base.
Which ROM can I use? I wanted to grab a the V30 repack from Nooby0815, but there aren't any apps/media/etc inside.
Is there a "clean" ROM on the board here? Because I really don't want to steal other developer's work...
Thank you
I think tantrums' deodexed stock roms would be great to start with, they are "clean", have all original apps, and plus fully stable (as they are stock) Just ask him permission before you do anything.
ok good idea

Custom ROMs also have their pros and cons, but are generaly faster and smoother than stock. They add new features, that's why we love them, but there are some sacrifices. If u decide to go custom, go to Original Android Development subforum here, browse around, and make your pick... (I personaly recomend CM 10.2 from NovaFusion if you want a stable, yet smooth custom ROM that won't let you down). Ofcourse, when flashing them, and recovery of your chosing, you should know what you're doing, at least on paper, so come prepared. All the info is already here, just search it.
Staying on stock has some advantages too. It's almost risk free, and like pang34 said, u can do lots of things on stock (now that you are rooted) too that will improve performance and customize your phone. There are also some Stock Based ROMs here (haven't tried them, but also a good option), you should check them out.
The decision is all yours. You chose, that's the cool thing about Android.:highfive:

4.2.1?? What s3 mini verson do you have?
If is GT-I8190 the you can costomize like custom recovery and rom.
You'll not lose any feature, you can boost the phone smoothnes and response to comands by making a good combination of kernel-cutom rom, you can boost battery life and performance as well.
You'll lose nothing just the warranty, nothing more.

Hi, I would personally install twrp from novafusion. http://novafusion.pl/downloads#
Install using Odin. I use twrp for any ROMs I install, it has never let me down.
After you have twrp installed, click on wipe>advanced wipe and check

Data
Cach
Dalvik
Then install what ever ROM you have downloaded.

best way is always via odin but with latest twrp by novafusion it is very easy to install. i recommand to do a clean install every month or after complexer updates.
