Newbie rooting advice.. - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a UK i9000 that I'd like to flash Jellybean / ICS / custom ROM on and I understand that I have to root and flash a custom recovery first.
Can anyone please tell me how to do this or tell me where to find simple instructions for beginners - I'm a bit nervous about doing it as I don't want to kill the phone!

If you can search for ezbase rom in the forums and flash 2.2.1 firmware... follow ALL of the instructions then after that completes let your phone boot up, shut it down then reboot into recovery then flash your 2.2.1 rom then hopefully you'll be good to go! Let me know if it works

Know how you feel mate, I've been in a similar situation God knows how many times.
As stated before you just need to get a full firmware (3 files) I would get JVB as this has all 3 files. Make sure you download the 512 pit file too and select partition in Odin.
Here is the link for JVB http://hotfile.com/dl/114645023/5ea002a/PDA_I9000XWJVB_-_PHONE_I9000XXJVK_-_CSC_I9000XEEJV3.rar.html

[Q] Noob guide

Ok i know that it must look very silly to post something like this but honestly i just get too confused.
I am an owner of a GT I9000 Galaxy S with the followning : 2.3.3 / I9000XXJVQ / 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJVN-CL366455 RΟΟΤ@DELL86 #2 / GINGERBREAD.XWJVN
I really want to put inside a custom rom with the latest Jelly Bean firmware but i have no idea.
I know that i have to root the phone... but honestly i have seen there are so many things that i get compilated...
I think i should start with a software called odin and then i have to find a kernel (which one) and then a CF (which one) etc...
If there is anyone that could help me i would really appreciate it...
Thank you in advance!!!

actually its written there,in da link, u need to download 2.3.6 in ur version or pick jvu (given on da link). if u hit update button on ur fone n definitely no update available.
its come out to this. if u can/know to choose ur own cf root. then its okay to flash juz cf root to ur fone (its for obtaining cwm n root). but if u do not know which one. then upgrading to jvu will be better as da cf root for jvu pretty common here.
flash da cf root with odin by putting cf-root ***.tar to PDA (without pit file) n with auto-reboot check only.
if u cant seem to choose ur own cfroot. then upgrading to jvu is da best method. da link for Firmware jvu+cf root already been given in da link. juz follow it n if u got any question n then u should come here

[Q] Help to update firmware for my gt-p1000

Hello, I have been reading for a long time now on threads all over this forum and there is simply too much for me to take in. So I thought maybe I could ask for help and one of you clever people could help me.
I would like to update the firmware on my tesco samsung tab gt-p1000 wifi and 3g to anything 4.+ oh and suitable for the uk. I'd like to still be able to make calls, use gps text and wifi general stuff. If some one in the know could suggest all the downloads I would need and point me towards a guide that suits those I would be very greatfull. p.s I think the tablet has been messed about with before as it has no serial number but I don't know.
Please don't just post ''read this thread'' I'm asking for some one how knows this information and just say ''use the modem LINK, this rom LINK, this software LINK and follow this guide LINK or similar.
From my research there are other people looking for the same build. If there is already one out there. link me up please.
I maybe looking for a complete odin build !
currently firmware is 2.2, baseband version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1 , FROYO.XWJJ3

Thanks for letting me know that.
So how will I do it?
You can follow my signature to overcome method.
Your have froyo, so you must root your ROM to enable you to check if you have protected bootloader.
And if you do, then to patch it.
Gingerbread doesn't have such issue.
But all that is in overcome PDF guide.
Once you have overcome kernel, it gave you cwm recovery.
With that you flash custom ROM.

Second, if you need advices, you must give us some more details, like what version of Android you have (GB or JB).
Third, for CWM or TWRP you must flash first an custom kernel, and the only one custom kernel wich have development is from cocafe (CoCore E XX this is for 4.1.2 JB stock)
Steps:
1. Download and install UKF from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2137598
2. Download and install an custom explorer (search on Google Play for ES or Solid or any other you like)
3. Download kernel zip and extract the file with .md5 extension and put it to SD Card (external).
4. Open UKF and follow the steps for flash kernel.
5. Done with kernel , now you have an custom kernel with custom recovery (CWM or TWRP)
6. Search and follow the steps for each custom ROM's thread for flash.
PS: Warning, this procedure is only for JB.

You will not need to buy new phone. Just download stock JB firmware and flash it with Odin.
You can find firmware on samsung-updates.com - just do not flash I9070P firmware on I9070 phone, or I9070 on I9070P (it will HARDBRICK your device).
