Ok so last night when i flashed ace42's hero everything was going ok wasnt a slow hero but i wanted to go back to super D. My dumbasz forgot to nandroid and when i try to flash an rom it stays on the 1st splash screen i could acces recovery and bootloader so its not a hard brick. Ive tried every thing form reflashing the radio and spl to the bootloader and back. Shoooot i even tried using DREAIMG.Nbh and the stock cupcake but still nothing nada. Any ideas what could be wrong? Im using amons recovery 1.6.2 btw
did you try wiping? Usually after you do a nandroid/switchrom/bart it's best to wipe before you flash.
Try This:
Code:
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Wipe Ext Partition
Repair EXT
Flash New Rom
See if that doesn't help.

Can you fastboot the phone? If you can do that then I recommend flashing through fastboot a boot and system image of what was previously working.
Just a thought, but did you try flashing the HTC recovery first?
I just had this same problem. I did a complete wipe. then flashed DRC83_base_defanged.zip (found here: http://www.mediafire.com/?nymkxjmndzd)when it was done flashing I flashed cyanogens latest with no reboot in between. I am now back up and running.
Backup the contents of your FAT partition on your SDCARD to your computer.
Reformat you SDCARD.
Repartition the SDCARD using Amon_RA's recovery (ext3 or ext4 partiton).
Reboot back into recovery.
Wipe your data/dalvik-cache.
Restore all of your FAT content originally saved from your SDCARD.
flash the DRC83_base_defanged.zip and then CM rom immediately following.
plug your device into your computer (if it's not there already) and use ddms or adb shell logcat to get a logcat and see if it appears to be repeating if your phone doesn't boot then copy the logcat and post it here.
Good luck.
Right, ive rooted my note, and im looking for an iPhone type Miui theme rom, ive looked at how to install the new rom and i have no idea what to do, it says that i cant flash on stock ICS ROM, currently running 4.0.1 atm, and it also says something about Aroma Installer. i am a big newb when it comes to this, i dont wanna f**k my phone up so can someone help me and tell me what to do please?
Firstly remove the stock kernel, thats what it is referring to, So flash something safe like Philz or Hydracore.
And also, Aroma installer is something that will appear when flashing via CWM, it is a neat feature which allows you to pick and choose optional extras to install, or to remove certain things from installing.
Once it appears just follow the instructions, its simple really.
when i rooted it i changed to franko kernel? what do i need to flash Miui ROM Vengeance Note v2_4-08 09 2012? im downloading that atm
Go with something popular like philz or hydracore, it will be overwritten once the ROM installs anyway.
Make sure to do the wipes (if necessary)
so i install that kernel, then flash the rom using cwm and it says to do a wipe, how do i wipe it?
In recovery there are several options, you will need to wipe data / Factory reset, then wipe cache, then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache.
You may also need to format /system and /preload, you will find these under the mounts and storage menu

i still have no idea what to do.. all i know is when doing a new rom install in from sd card is all i know, i need an easy to understand explaination lol because what you're saying is just letters to me, if you can tell me how to do it because i dont know what im doing..
Okay, so you're completely stock now right? If so, head over to original android development section and download either philz kernel for your version (find this in settings > about phone) or hydracore kernel (this needs to be flashed with odin unless you are already rooted with Cwm recovery, if not just use philz)
Once downloaded place on your internal sd card, power the phone off, hold volume up + home + power all at once until you enter recovery.
Now select apply update from sd card or update . zip (can't remember which one) once flashed do the same procedure again, this time you will notice how different it is.
Now either mount usb storage in recovery (under mounts and storage) or reboot the phone to use mtp / mass storage.
Place MIUI rom in your internal sd card, reboot into recovery, select wipe data / Factory reset (will remove all apps and data, not media, so backup what's important before hand)
Now select wipe cache, then go to advanced and select wipe dalvik cache.
Now go to install zip from sd card, then choose zip from internal sd card, find the MIUI rom and flash it.
Once done, reboot and wait upto 10mins for it to boot properly.
Double check to MIUI thread for install instructions as you may need to format system and preload too when performing the full wipe in recovery.

good luck paul on your install

I did not flash my phone before, I was using samsung original ICS rom all these while until 2 days ago I decided to flash it with cyanogen nightly build cm-10.1-20130123-NIGHTLY-n7000.zip. I used CWM.zip(I think is a touch version) recovery to update my phone. I did not do a backup. My phone managed to show the cyanogen logo after that with a turning wheel but it just stuck there for 10min. I then realized I have to clear /data, /cache, and the dalvik cache. did so in recovery mode, but now it no longer showing the turning wheel, instead just stuck at the samsung n7000 text logo screen.
I then used odin to flash the phone with a malaysian original rom I downloaded from the hotfile.com (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997). Now it fall into a restart cycle, still stuck at the samsung text logo screen, just that it restart after around 20sec. I then boot into recovery mode(This time I'm using recovery-clockwork-6.0.1.2-n7000.zip) and clear /data, /cache, and the dalvik cache, but no avail.
I dont think I bricked it yet since I still manage to go in to the download mode and recovery mode. but no matter what I flash it always stuck at the samsung n7000 text logo screen. Can someone further guide me what should I do? Thanks. (I'm very calm btw)
Flash a gingerbread rom with Odin.. After that go to recovery and Wipe/factory Reset... Do not flash anything else.. Just the stock rom and use stock recovery..
Do not use custom kernels nor cwm or anything else.. Everything stock

Try flashing and wiping again.
Seems like somehow some partition it's corrupted..... Re download a different gb rom make sure it's stock.. And flash again then wipe.. If that does not works, we could discuss another solutions

I flashed with GB N7000DXKL3_N7000OLBKL2_XME rom the first time. I followed the latest advices, I downloaded N7000DXKK1_N7000OLBKJ6_XME (which is an earlier GB version to the former 1 I mention). This time, there's no error prompt after flashing. I then boot into recovery mode and wipe data/factory reset it. Everything looks ok, I then restart the phone. Again, it stuck at the samsung galaxy note GT-N7000 text logo screen for 6min before it reboot itself and continue the cycle. I boot into recovery mode and clear cache and try my luck again, and still the same. Hmm..
Once try flashing the same rom you flashed last. But this time use a PIT file too.
http://d-h.st/FVh
Choose in odin where it says PIT and then also make sure repartition is ticked.

Hi Nokia, did as per your suggestion. flashed N7000DXKK1_N7000OLBKJ6_N7000DXKJ3_HOME.tar.md5 together with Q1_20110914_16GB.pit.
Screenshot: dl.dropbox.com/u/6893697/odin_flash_pit.png
It rebooted itself after flashing and showing all the installations, then it rebooted itself again stuck at the GT-N7000 text logo screen for 1min and reboot itself again, then I waited for 6min at the same GT-N7000 text logo screen and the phone rebooted itself again..

I wiped for the earlier flash, not the current. but both are the exact same rom.
Anyway, I just did a wipe cache, then select wipe data/factory reset, and reboot the phone again.
Still the same. stuck for 6min and reboot.
I understand usually full wipe/first boot we have to wait longer for the booting, but am I suppose to wait at the N7000 screen for few minutes or there is another screen to wait?(perhaps the boot animation screen with colorful samsung logo)
Another question is, is wipe data/factory reset consist of wipe cache? (if that so probably I dont need to do twice everytime)
Thanks.
Do you have warranty? If you have I advice you to take it for repairs, if not then
Get abbys kernel.. Flash it via Odin (Odin version) and go recovery (red cwm) once there perform all kind of wipes and formats(don't touch efs partition) then reboot

my warranty expired on 2nd Jan. will flashing the abyss kernel void anything (I heard there's a counter or something in our device)?
if that so, could anything be done before attempt flashing the device with abyss kernel?
Currently I managed to access adb shell while in the recovery mode and able to su root.
do you think any information inside is helpful to understand my current problem?
here's a df -h
Code:
Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on
tmpfs 404.1M 76.0K 404.0M 0% /dev
/dev/block/mmcblk0p9 838.6M 811.7M 26.9M 97% /system
/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 196.8M 4.2M 192.6M 2% /cache
/dev/block/mmcblk1p1 7.4G 3.0G 4.4G 41% /sdcard
As your warranty expired there's nothing to worry about... It will only increase a binary counter Wich you can easily reset later once you boot to android..

I flashed it with abyss kernel. it comes with cwm 5.8.1.5. used that to wipe everything. still the same...
One more try. Can you copy kingdroid v8 rom in your external sd card (using some other means). Install it via abyss kernel. Good luck.
(kd8 is my personal choice, tho other custom roms are equally good, read kingdroid thread fully)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
I just tried the kingdroid v8 rom. it hanged while installing/tweaking "EXT4 performance tweak" at 40% and after few minutes the device restarted itself. Come to think about it, now I got a question: My device always auto restart itself when I perform "wipe data/factory reset" every time. I wonder now, is this normal? or actually it's wiping half way and it hit some exceptions and the device restarted itself?
In recovery, go to mounts and storage and choose format/system, data and cache. Any of there commands getting stuck? Of not then try to install a custom rom again.

hmm... formating /cache and /system take immediate effect. formatting /data take unusual amount of time (around 6-8min) but eventually it shows "Done." and I assume is successful too.

Hello.
first I want to apologize for my, sometimes, bad English!
Second, i want to apologize for my novice touch in this topic!
The story:
I've been using SweetRom for a while, but tonight i wanted to try another rom.
I loaded up SuperBean(not really relevant to this story) on a microSD.
Rebooted my phone into recovery
Philz Touch 5
I choose "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" and then "Clean to install a new rom"
Then i tried to "install zip"
"Choose zip from sdcard"
But then i get: E:Can't Mount /sdcard/
I've tried to format the sdcard, exfat, fat, fat32, ntsf but nothing worked, still the same error.
I can access the internal storage and i can boot into download.
I thought that maybe i'll try to install the newest Philz but when in download mode
my computer wont recognize my phone (i'm using Windows 8)
i'm stuck! please help me out!
I've searched everywhere for answers but i can't find any!
What are my options?
Boot into Philz recovery again and go to mounts and storage and mount USB. Then connect it to pc. Check if the any drive shows up. Then move the new rom to the internal storage.

is /preload equivalent to /dalvik-cache? but then what's the point of format /data/factory restore if "clean to install new rom" is present?
No. It's different. Preload is a separate partition and dalvik-cache is in data partition.
The option you mentioned only exists in Philz recovery not in standard cwms

So, to be clear, is it necessary or advisable to do any of 'Wipe Data/Factory Reset', 'Wipe Cache Partition' and 'Wipe Dalvik Cache'? Or is 'Clean to Install a New ROM' merely an amalgam of the above (plus added formats?)?
Thanks
It's usually not necessary but it is ALWAYS advised to format /data /preload /system and cache before flashing a new ROM. If you don't do those wipes then you can sometimes end in a bootloop, random force closes, battery and performance issues et cetera. Basically if yoou want to flash a new ROM (unless it is an update to your current ROM) then always do a full wipe,
If you are just updating your ROM (ex. updating one nightly to another) then you just have to flash the ROM in recovery and wipe cache, dalvik cache (in advanced)
.

Thanks very much for that - much appreciated.
I've read elsewhere that many seem to recommend wiping cache and dalvik after they've flashed a ROM? Is this something you'd advise and, if so, why (or not!)?
Many thanks

If you're updating then yes, it's enough that you flash the ROM and then wipe cache and dalvik cache.
If you're reflashing from start then you should first do a full wipe, flash the ROM, gapps, su and that is all. No need to wipe the cache or dalvik cache again

Ah right. So if you're flashing a new ROM - then clean install is all that's necessary. If upgrading to a newer version of existing ROM, then it's better to wipe cache and dalvik post-install? Why? What does it do and how does it help?
Cheers
reset before installing zip, now no super su ... cannot mount usb
Hi,
The title says it all. I have been reading and searching. Many similar stories. I apologise if this is in the wrong place but this is very similar to my problem.
I have a galaxy i9505 trying to install a DjeMBeY ROM from TWRP.
I factory reset and wiped cache's BEFORE I flashed the .zip file so then had no .zip file to flash!
Also have erased my system backup and the USB WILL NOT SEEM TO MOUNT to copy it back onto the card.
I have read and read I am very struck.
I am not familiar with all the processes yet. Please help.
i recommend going to here

Thanks! i went with download mode, then installed a stock rom, i had to root again and flash philz touch and install xtrestolite and now everything is ok!
I turned on device encryption in order to play with it (bad mistake). Performance is suckish, it prevents me from flashing anything stored on the internal filesystem (have to use USB dongle), battery life has gone down, etc.
I tried wiping the device by doing a factory reset both in recovery and through settings. Neither method touches the encrypted data partition. Re-flashing the ROM makes no difference. The encrypted partition is extremely resilient
Based on some research, the only known way to wipe the encryption is to revert to stock and use stock recovery to do a factory reset. This sounds insanely cumbersome if all I want to do is wipe a partition. Does anyone know of a better way?
If stock recovery can do a factory wipe without mounting the encrypted partition, it sounds like a feature to add to CWM or TWRP.
Device is ATT HTC One, rooted, S-OFF, Super CID, CWM recovery, Sentinel ROM 4.0.
Many thanks
You can try and flash an ruu? See if that helps and if it doesnt try the stock recovery thing. Never heard of it though.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
So, the wipe of TWRP didn't removed the encryption like it say this when you will wipe?
Strange
However, flash the stock recovery and do a factory reset like you said, and see if it work..
you can do it via TWRP just make sure the rm -rf mode is disabled in settings... Or maybe in fastboot... Just type
Code:
fastboot erase userdata
Or another perhaps is ask someone to create a nand dump of their user data partition and use "dd" to write it on your own.
Problem Solved!
Eureka!!!!
I was playing with CWM and figured it out. In the "mounts and storage" tab, if you select "format /data" it fails with an error that it can't mount the volume.
If you select "format /data and /data/media" it works like a charm. For some reason, it performs the format operation on the raw partition while the prior option tried to mount it first.
Back in business
Thanks RootShot ["format /data ¨in advanced wipe first¨ and format/data ¨& write yes in second¨ " ] did the trick and saved my phone back to work ...
