Being a fairly happy user of the GEAR watch for a few days I would like to start the topic of the GEAR II wish list with others -
Most important for me:
HARDWARE:
- longer battery life - one week minimum (even if the watch will be slightly thicker) - is it too thick for You now? (I switched from much thicker and heavier CASIO pathfinder watch)
- full water proofing IP68 or "100 meter" water tightness
- standard micro USB charging plug
- wireless charging ? (although it will need another "special" base)
- titanium strap (although with 1 year useful "generation" life, it should not be so big issue) however from "CASIO" times plastic bands tend to get stilff and break
- "standard" android buttons on the bottom of the screen - (two software and one hardware) like on the android phone
- larger screen (imho not so much important, but every new iteration of the device is getting "larger screen" this days...
- longer / replaceable strap
SOFTWARE:
- ability to display temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity (all of those sensors are in NOTE3...)
- battery level on the main screen
- separate categories of "full contact list" and "favorite contacts" on the main level of the menu
- more software in general
- specific apps - calculator .. . .
- please put more here!
Wifi, dual core processor with at least 1gb of ram....and full android os

All I'd like is replaceable bands.
Wifi would be nice also but isn't a necessary.
Software: tasker!!! Full version, on the device
Tasker "app" or widget. Something similar to the music control with configurable buttons that I can assign to tasker tasks or profiles.
The theme here is: give me a good tasker implementation and I can do the rest on my own.
Network connection via bluetooth. Id like my phone and watch to have a network connection with each other (for stuff like autoremote and es explorer app transfer)
I have a feeling most of my needs will be met soon.
Let's focus on updates for this watch first lol.
Tapatalk
For all the dual core people. This current watch has two cores but has one of them disabled.

Need IP67. It's a must. A lot of other feature can be added by Samsung to the gear already with a software update..like sensors reading and display to the watch.

lol. Wish list for Gear 2 already? I'm not even past my 14 day return period. smh.
It will be nice to have the battery status of both the done and gear on the watch. I wish that on the watch screen to have a clue about the missing events... Like a number of those events.

Just thought it was a good idea to open a thread with "issues" to be solved or things we want to get working on the Gear. I myself have a thing of two that I want to solve. For this I searched through some threads, saw some people mention the problems but never found a solution (although apparently other people were working on it to).
Because I like to be part of the solution but don't want to reinvent the wheel I thought it is maybe a good idea to sum some things up that need a solution in one thread.
Basic thing that I'm looking for and not sure if it is solved is
enable/disable BT tethering with just one tap (so to speak). Ideally automagically when opening an app that needs an internet connection
(If the problem isn't solved I was thinking to write an app for this)
(Reserved : list with open issues )
Id love someone to be able to rewrite the newest gear manager to work with people not on 4.3.
Or someone to get the things not working on 4.2 like weAther etc.
A native sms app that syncs with the phone properly. or get tablet talk to display names.

Very easy with Tasker & Bluetooth Auto Connect.
Iv set up so if my device is locked & the screen is off for 30 seconds, it will disable bluetooth tethering for battery reasons. Iv also setup so if I slide two fingers up on my Novalauncher homescreen it will enable bluetooth tethering. Alternatively you can also enable a launcher shortcut which will execute the task.
You can also setup so bluetooth tethering will automatically be activated when launching certain applications.
If you need further instructions, dont hesitate. Tasker can be a little intimidating at first if this is your first time using it.
I'd quite like to be able to swipe away notifications, both individually and per app. Currently it's a bit of a hassle..!

I've never used tasker before. Maybe worthwhile to dive into it.
Also played with Bluetooth Auto Connect. I used it to maintain a connection. (But concluded very quickly that that will drain the battery of the Gear like hell LoL). Where do you use Bluetooth Auto Connect for in this scenario? I mean,if I understand you correctly everything can be done with Tasker.

Bluetooth auto connect works as a plugin for tasker also, so you can incorporate bluetooth auto connect functions in your tasks.
You must get tasker, its a device changer.. both phone & gear.

Its great isn't it.. opens up so many possibility's.
I'd also quite like to have 2 finger double tap to show recent apps and 2 finger long press to show battery info.
i would love to have double tap on the watch to wake.

fOmey do i only need tasker on the phone in order to do that? The way i am manually doing it is i first enable tether on the phone ands then dive into the full settings on the Gear.
If the phone stops tethering then the Gear option automatically gets unticked, but it does not work the other way around.
I have tasked installed on both phone and gear. Could you please provide some instructions?
Also, have you checked Atooma? I have it both on the S4 and the Gear and i can do stuff on the phone with three triggers from the watch:
1) Horizontal movement
2) Vertical movement
3) Photo taken
Does tasker integrate with the watch the way Atooma does?
Thanx again for everything you have done.
YOU ARE THE MAN!
I'd like to be able to scroll down and see a playlist and pick a song

Functionality improvement - (we just need a piece of software for that) - to display on the GEAR atmospheric pressure, humidity, temperature - all of those sensors are in NOTE3
I downloaded the app NFC Writer from the play store and it let me blank the NFC tag on the cradle for my gear watch
Then I used the app Trigger to reprogram it. I figured I'll never need to pair it again now that I paired it to my phone and this way I can make it launch other programs and do other things instead. I have a sony bluetooth speaker with an NFC tag to pair it with my phone and I was able to do the same thing with it too!
I figured i would tell you guys since I'm sure you will think of really creative ways to use it
Sorry because I'm a new user xda won't let me post links to 3rd party sites so you'll have to search the apps yourself
hi, just on a sidenote, every time you update Gear manager software, or the Gear watch Rom, (the best ) is that you either reset watch when you update(clean install) or just update you need the cradle to pair ! (yes, you can manually pair also, but it is i found this to be more of a hassle and takes more time) So keep this in mind.
note8.0 for xda
How do you remove the NFC tag from the cradle?

You may be better off using NFC ReTag instead because you don't need to wipe the NFC tag in order to define actions. NFC ReTag simply lets you define the actions when an ID is read....you can disable the actions if you ever wanted to revert your setup.
All-in-all, you will get the same end result without having to erase/overwrite the tag in the cradle.
A long time ago, when stuff actually worked, I was able to slide my One into the HTC dock and it would enable the "Car Mode" state (NOT Car.apk, the stock garbage car app). With it, it would launch the apk associated with launching with Car Mode. This apk was set by the user if more than one car dock apps were installed (think opening a browser link from search, and it asks you if you want to use Chrome or Internet or Dolphin or Maxathon) which I had set to InDrive. So, I'd slide my dock in, and it would automatically launch InDrive, start playing music through bluetooth, and start Autoguard recording in the background.
But then they broke it. I believe it was 4.3 IIRC.
I'm now on 4.4.2 and it looks like they never returned the functionality to change what app gets launched when you slide it into the dock.
Purely, my question is: is there a way I can change the app that launches when I slide it into the dock? I'd like to get InDrive working again as that best suits my needs.
Some other info: There was a workaround which essentially re-enabled car-mode (and of course required root and a custom recovery image) but that wasn't even reliable, as it would only launch intermittently. I can't find this and doubt it works with 4.4.2.
I'm currently on Android Revolution HD 62

I don't really use it but as i recall it was an NFC tag built into the car dock that made the phone react to it being inserted. have you messed with any NFC programing apps ?

It's not NFC
edit: To elaborate, there are docks that use NFC. This is not one of them. The HTC Dock uses what they call "SmartCable" for enabling car mode (which doesn't actually enable car mode it just launches their stupid proprietary garbage app.
Looks like the car mode apk that it launches isn't actually HTC's, it's google's?
Not a real question I want answered, this post is just intended to be a bump.

I have a 2016 Mazda CX-5. It has a touch screen if you use it in the default way (touch only when the car is stopped, otherwise the knob selector must be used). But immediately after you connect an Android Auto, it disables the touch screen even if the car is stopped. This isn't very pleasant because many functions are much faster with using a touch screen (entering an address for example). I'm talking about when a car doesn't move.
AFAIK, Mazda made this decision because Android Auto doesn't allow BOTH the touch screen and physical controls (knob selector) to work. They decide on physical controls and the touch screen is then disabled.
Do some of you guys have any idea if this (theoretically) can be overridden? Is this the reason why Coolwalk (beta) doesn't work on cars with knob selectors (Mazda, BMW, Audi ...)?
Is this limitation coded in Mazda's infotainment firmware?
I have the same car. The default Mazda entertainment software with original USB hub allowed touchscreen with hacked Android Auto tips from Mazda forums. But when I decided to use my iphone with the car which interface much more useful and beautiful, the tech guy upgrade the software on the car & replace the hub, then Android Auto disable the touchscreen. I try several times but the ugly interface and the dead touchscreen force me to prefer Apple Carplay. Even the latest beta AA cannot use touchscreen.
Tnx.
AFAIK, the touch screen is disabled only on Android Auto? Can you confirm that the touch screen works while using Apple CarPlay?
I've got a mazda 3 2018, I've installed AA with MZDAIO. As it was possible in the tweak to remove this restriction, i've done it, so the touch screen always work. But still, I never use it.
Honestly, learn to play with the knob. Except for the keyboard, I love controling AA with the center knob, bottons do exactly what they are supposed to, no missclick while driving, easy and fast to control. Bonus point, the screen stay clean loll
When I need the keyboard, I use my cellphone anyway.
I think with AAWireless there is an option to remove this restriction too.
Tnx.
You are right. MZDAIO is a firmware for infotainment and it can remove this restriction.
I have the official firmware (MDZAIO installation is more complex with the latest version of official firmware) and looking for a solution there.
Don't get me wrong - I also love the knob and Mazda really made a great job there. But when using Android Auto, many actions are slower and inconvenient.
I'm using Carsifi (AA Wireless competitor) and it can't remove this restriction. Can someone confirm that AA Wireless can remove it?

You can see the option in the print screen
Tnx, but I don't understand (I tried with a dictionary to translate at least some words).
In your opinion, which option can disable touch screen restriction?
I know that there are Android Auto limitations on how many touches/clicks are allowed. Maybe you have this on your mind?

Tnx, now I understand what is on your phone's screen
The option "Remove tap restriction" (probably) removes Google's restriction for "too much clicking/touching on the screen". What I want is to enable a touch screen. It is disabled on Mazda's infotainment when Android Auto is connected.
hix same problem. native AA on Mazde can't touch. need use custom AA install by Mazda AIO but it' not stable.
but i upgrade fw to 74+, AIO Tweak not compatible. i think should be familiar with the knob
I too have a hard time using apps with that stupid knob. Some functions are slow using knob, that I can still tolerate. However, some function just must use touch. For eg, when using Waze, sometimes I need to scroll the map to see my route. There is no way to do this with knob other than to zoom in/out. I just want to move the map at the zoom level I am at.
AIO is also not an option. I need to buy special connector to get it working and it's quite complicated.
Why can't Mazda just allow touch!??!
i connected to mazda connect SSH. can edit android auto source code to active touch?
I am the same, the central control is very comfortable but there are some options of applications that would be easier to use the touch ... hopefully someone finds the solution
