If you goto https://www.google.com/dashboard/ ...and sign into to your Google account....Just look at all the "stats/searches/etc" they save.. I have had my Google account since the old school T-Mobile G1 Days...and they have tracked me since then.. under my gps it says Distance Traveled: 7130229 meters...They also save voice searches, documents, printers and more....AGAIN I had no clue Google stored THIS MUCH info about us..Anyone else find this oddly interesting?! Or am I just being paranoid? :good::cyclops::good:

Yes I've known about this. I only wish it was easier to manage some of the info. Everything should be consolidated and easier to work with. Think it still held info from when Google was doing the buzz thing... But if I tried to delete that info it would ask to delete Google plus.
Anyway. Google knows me and can provide me with many services because it has all my info. I worry more about what someone could do if they got my password.
This is nothing new, they probably have more data than this, but this is all we have access to. I wouldn't think too much of it, but is it creepy.. Yes.
Get out your tin foil hats:laugh:
I knew about this for some time. It speaks to the transparency of Google. It's one thing for a company to track you or store information about you. For them to actually tell you what they know is commendable.

Most people should already know all this info is subject to Google's eyes so to speak.
You didn't think you were getting free access to email, VoIP phone numbers, maps and other stuff for nothing? That is how Google makes their money, by 1's and 0's! But like others said, Google is up front about it and em' are the brakes.

Anybody see total distance on maps application? Why google delete this feature in app?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Nothing new. It has been there for quite a long time. It helps Google know more about you and have better information relieve red to you. The more you have, the more accurate your search and information results.

They send me an email everything month reminding me of my account dashboard and the location history reporting. If you didn't know this, you are pretty uninformed.
This is one of my fave features of my Google account. I can't see an issue at all. Google has way too much info on too many people (with or without an android device) to worry about them picking on little old me and it's only the same as what other companies would track. I trust Google 100% with my data and I always try and use as many of their apps and services as possible even if they are inferior to others (like Keep, it's a long way from being Catch or Evernote). This is one of the reasons I got a Nexus device as my old HTC and Samsung devices were pretty intrusive and I think I'd rather keep all my eggs in one basket rather than let every man and his dog know what filth I'm getting up to. It's funny how nobody seems to worry about the antivirus software they have running on their PC that checks every file and can connect to the internet anytime it wants.

Why the exclamation points in the title.
Google saves this info and you get to see what they have on you, unless you would rather it be Microsoft and say they don't save info on you , and then have Skype save all your conversations with out you knowing.
I get so tired of this google is the most upfront company about your personnel info they gather. But when one complains about "look at all this info they have on me". Then the same person would never even think, to what other social networks, wireless provider, or ISP providers are taking in and not informing me to the info they track and then sell. Well its mind boggeling
News flash: Google is a data company. Either accept this or get a flip phone.
Lol Facebook would never do this and force you to turn down your privacy settings.

Hi all
I've been a member of XDA for a while (have a hero and been on the villanrom builds since they began). But I am a developer full time and so I have decided to start in Windows Phone 7. I know silverlight, I know .NET so why not.
I have started the company 'Infinite Monkey Theorem' and this is a showing of the first application.
auto-mate. This app allows you to record your cars stats at each fuel up and service to allow you to view statistics about your cars. This app will also allow you to setup service types (months or miles) and the app will schedule them for you taking into account your mileage per year. MOT and Tax renewals are stored and show when they are close.
The reason for this app is this: I drive 24,000 miles / year which means that I need to maintain the car more than just a yearly service, this app will tell me when I need to change my oil or have a minor/major service based upon the miles I drive per year and the miles I'm doing recently allowing me to budget for it accordingly.
This app syncs to the cloud so you can look over all the cars you are monitoring from your office and export the information or book a service.
This app is in beta at the moment, it is not feature complete as I need you to be able to say you have done your MOT or Tax but its almost there. Of course with it syncing to the cloud there is a cost, that I MUST pass on somehow. I looked into Ads but Microsoft in thier wisdom only allow thier ad framework in america so Im out (UK). But I'm thinking of a free version that has ads (in future) and does not sync to cloud. Thoughts on what you would/might pay for this app would be greatly appreciated.
The future of the app?
Well I am planning a pro version which is for business mileage and will export from the web site allowing business travellers to fill out expense forms. But there are lots to add to this app as well.
Take a look at the vid and let me know what you think.

Njoy.
id add light comercial vans upto 3.5tonnes as many courier use wm devices so many will upgrade to wp7
Love it and it looks superb. I dont know what you can and cannot do in regards to apps interacting with other features of the phone. But the option to put a reminder in the calendar or a pop up one month before the tax is due or service is due etc I think would be really beneficial (liked I said not sure if MS will let you do that though)
The only other thing I can think of is a field it enter a monetary value for the top up. So you put 44.66 litres in and it cost £70 for instance. You could maybe track this in the same way the MPG are, but as a Pence, or cent etc per mile.
In regards to price, there are alot of apps/games I have seen for say £2.99 that I refuse to pay for (bejwelled for one) but this I would pay for. Im not sure what price you were expecting but Id happily pay £2.99 for it which seems the average.
I know you have spoke about the cloud but is it possible to export the information to PDF or excel etc and then have the users email this to themselves, this would cut your costs but again I dont know whats allowed
Good Luck and I look forward to this being released.
4 or 5 euro isn't a bad prize .
if you could put in lpg and diesel blend (trucks that run on diesel and lpg ) then this app would be the hammer .
it would also be nice if you could ad your own car/truck .
lets say I have a scania R420 and I am driving on diesel and lpg , I would want to know if I am saving money .
normally a truck uses 32 litre of diesel every 100 KM
now it uses 22 litre of diesel and 10 litre of LPG
Diesel: costs 1 Euro
LPG: costs 0.50 Euro
it would be nice if your app could calculate my savings per 100 KM .
if you could make that happen you would have a winner .
Greetings Cees.
looks great! i would be willing to pay $5-7 for it without adds. I would also be willing to beta test for you as i am picking up a samsung focus on monday.
Keep up the good work, hopefully we will see this app in the market soon!
App showing in other games on my phone
I bought the app yesterday and couldn't find it. Today I noticed in other games. Should I uninstall and resync? I pinned to start for now.
thanks for what looks like a good app. Have another question. I have a csv file exported from a program I was using on my iphone. Any way of exporting or manually entering almost two years of data online vs the phone? You also mention website. Was is the url so I can check it out.
Thanks,
Johnny
Looks like a decent app but it also shows up in other gas for me
Thanks for comments
Hi all
Thanks for the comments, aint been on here in a while. Dont know why its showing in the games section, I've downloaded the trial and it shows in the normal menu, have purchase it and try it that way.
Answers:
1) Cost of fueling up will be coming in an update (not long)
2) Putting final touches to website then its live. it will be at www.infinitemonkeytheorem.co.uk You will be able to do everything you can do on the phone but see more information and view multiple car details over each other
3) Had to do some changes to the app to see the charts better, this is coming real soon.
4) will be adding fuel type soon.

One idea I have going is that as the data is stored online, I should be able to send a message to the phone when a service / mot /tax is due and the pic will go amber and show a 1.
The thing i'm working on right now is auto-mate (offline edition). The basic functionality of keeping track of your vehicle, store when your tax/mot is, and it will schedule the services for you, but all offline. becuase of the zero cost to me, it will be priced low. thinking £0.75...
Hope to have that out in a week.
Just checked and microsoft has put it under games, when I specifically said Tools and it was under tools originally.???
Nice one microsoft.
I could e-mail microsoft to change this but I'll just do an update which will fix it. Sorry for it being in the wrong place, not my fault.
Glad to hear. I just tried uninstall and reinstall and it didn't work. I hope I can enter my 2 years of data easily on the website. Can't see doing that on the phone. I could just get a new car and start over Those new 5.0 mustangs are nice. Add sync and I would be a happy camper
Prepare to be one happy camper, now im not saying now, im not saying in 1 week but excel import/export is always a step in the process
Just to let you know, an update was sent to microsoft over the weekend. This update will put the app back in the apps list. Include better charting, bug fixes. And ability to send error reports on some errors if they happen
Thanks for the update. Finally moved from under Games. When will the web site be up? I still haven't entered my previous data. Have been hoping to do it online and sync to phone.
Its in alpha now.... Beta next then live.
I just realized after putting in my second entry that I can't enter how much per tank or price per gallon. Any chance you will be adding this?
Yes, this is coming in an update.
Clicking on the historical button for miles/week shows the graph for MPG?
Also, whenever I enable the live tile, save the settings. The marker always goes back to disabled?
I just got my Nexus 7 16 GB tablet yesterday at Staples. It looks good, plays games and videos well.
But I have a big disappointment. The Voice Search and Google Now both takes more than 60 seconds to reply my queries. It just says "recognizing...." forever. When I watched the videos on youtube, it replied within a few seconds. Could it be my Indian accent? I had HTC Desire HD with andriod 2.3.3 which could understand me within few seconds.
Anybody having the same issues.

Could be your accent or your connection, i get responses pretty much instantly when i do a voice search.
Might be the accent. My dad is Filipino and his iPhone 4S can't really understand him.

That gave me a good laugh. I could just imagine Siri going "Huh??" :silly:
Even if it doesn't recognize the accent, I don't think it takes a minute to realize that.
Think it straightaway searches in Google instead of bringing up cards.
First come smiles. Then come lies. Last is gunfire.
after watching the youtube voice search, i was quite disappointed in the voice results. that guy must of had a list of questions that voice search worked with. most of my voice searches just take me to the google site with search results.

I'm having the exact same problem! I actually think there is either a config issue or something else.
I've tried installing/downloading the Australian English file and have cleared cache and data and restarted but still having the same problem.
I also have a HTC One XL which has better capability of voice recognition than the Nexus 7. I've been trying to get through to Google's Nexus 7 support but they are experiencing a lot of demand atm (as you can imagine).
I do not have much of an accent (for an American) and I also have the problem where it can take up to 60 seconds to do a Google Now search. I speak very, very clearly and it takes a long, long time to give me back results. I think it's a network issue, not an accent issue. If anyone else is having this, I'd appreciate any clue as to why.
I tried linking to a YouTube video with a sample of my voice, but I'm too much a newb on this forum (long-time lurker) to be allowed to post links. So, if you're not lazy, here's the URL: youtube.com/watch?v=KmNIouLByJQ
I'm also having the same problem. At first I thought it just didn't work. It hangs on recognizing forever. I'm in Australia but have a fairly have light English accent. I've tried with almost every English language voice pack too.
It's the same when I try to dictate as well. I wonder if it's related to the connection I'm using on campus as the wifi icon is rarely blue (connected to Google servers if I remember correctly). I'd try on a data connection but I'm almost out.
You guys should try to connect somewhere else than your home to see if its your connection or something else...

I'm from the South too I'm amazed at how well it does. I wouldn't describe my voice as common though.
I bought Nexus 7 at Staples in Ocean City, Maryland. I went back to the store, and asked for a replacement. I, along with other (American) Staples staffs tried Voice Search and Google Now, which took the same amount of time (1 minute or more).
Anybody bought 16 GB version it at Staples? Or anybody using Comcast Internet Connection in USA? Because they only have comcast here, I doubt comcast has some limitations. To clear confusion, I have 20Mbps download and 4Mbps upload speed.
Do anybody knows if we can change the server settings for Google Now so that I can select the closest server?
I want to clear another misconception. It understands me almost clearly 95% of the time, just takes too long to answer, so it is not the accent.
Thanks.

It's pretty fast in bring up cards, or google results when I use it. But I find that it works best when there is a definitive answer to the question. For example if it's a question regarding definitions, math problems, units, specific questions about famous people like, height, age... that sort of thing, you'll usually get a voice reply and card.
However if you ask questions with various answers or that require a lot of details, like how to prepare a dish, who's the highest paid actor, how to flash cwm to the nexus 7, you'll usually get google results.
It's good for answers to precise questions, otherwise, it will get you closer to researching the answer with Google results.
I can do an RP accent as well as my normal Shropshire accent and it is very slow regardless of where I connect or the speed of the network.
I know it's a N7 thread, but I've been a N7 owner for the past 1.5hours and was checking the forum.
But to the topic, I've been using Google Now and Google Voice on my Galaxy Nexus and I found it to be very accurate.
I remember being in the car, with the phone on the holder, stuck in a traffic queue to get in the Euro tunnel (port areas are know for bad connection) and there were some posters about the 7 world wonders of the modern area and I started asking questions about it and all of them were spot on in under 10 seconds.
Accent wise: I'm a Brazilian who learned American English as teenager and been living in UK for almost 4 years. So I must have a weird accent.
I just found out, it is not yout phone, it is not your accent, it is your connection. It always took me three minutes to get the answer to test sentences such as how tall president of the united states. I was connected over WiFi. "Recognizing..." was all I got.
I turned WiFi off and i got the same answer in 2 seconds. As soon as the sentence has been spoken, the old Sci-Fi voice recognition computer processing animation was seen. And wow the answer was there. With WiFi turned off, I did not see the text "Recognizing..." at all.
If you have slow Google Voice Search results, check if you are connected to a wireless lan and if yes, turn it off to see if it works better for you.
This looks like a bug in Google Voce Search to me. this of course only works on phones, so if you use a Tablet without any 3G capabilities, no data plan, you might be out of luck.
I hope Google fixes this as soon as possible.
Could well be..
My results aways come back in under 10 seconds..
I tethered to my phone - which had a low signal for data - and it took much longer - about 30 seconds..
google now must send the voice data - online to translate - and then fetch your query..
I think you can download the voice recognition data -? if I remember ?
See if that helps?
I know this isn't really N7 related, but i noticed it more today when i received my N7. Google music STILL isn't available for UK users. It's been public in the US for nearly a year now. Google need to step up their game. Really disappointing. Sorry for ranting but pretty pathetic it's taken them this long and they still aren't any closer to making it available to people outside the US.
North America isn't the only place people buy you're products Google!

Apple worked on it for years before managing to strong arm the studios. It will happen, but right now the mindset must be "well, we have our stuff on iTunes. Don't all them young folk have iPhones?"
And yes, all music executives are out of touch elderly men who don't know that not all touchscreen phones are iPhones.
Not only music, we can't buy films either, only rent.
With the Nexus 7 being so Play oriented I would have hoped they would have struck some kind of deal by now.
Hey
Its not hard to do, just use something like hotspot shield, sign up, then once its done, you wont have to do it again, it'll work. I did it when it first came out and its been working ever since.
It is a shame though, you guys in the US have a lot more

As the others have said, use a VPN to sign up. That is the only time (except for if you try to purchase muzak) that Google checks your geo-location. After that you can start uploading your music and playing it with the app on your 7.

I think its probably the bpi blocking them. They are not happy that google isn't more proactive at removing what they consider copyright infringing sites from their search listings. Maybe googles new policy to move sites down the search rankings will mollify them.

You just need to use it on a pc long enough to go to music.google.com and register. Then you no longer need a proxy unless you want ti try and buy music, buying music though needs a us payment card.

I gave up on Google Music when I realized just how terrible my DSL upload speed is. I didn't really care to have to wait days upon days for my music to upload to Google, so I just rsync'd it to my server right here on my gigabit LAN and fired up Subsonic. Once I donated a few bucks to unlock the premium mobile streaming license, I was golden.
Note: DDNS would be a severe +1 in this scenario. I already had it set up, so I could point to my specific URL instead of my IP which Verizon changes every other day anyway.

There are hundreds of threads about the new Nexus devices today, but what caught my eye more than anything is this;
On November 13, we're bringing music on Google Play to Europe. Those of you in the U.K, France, Germany, Italy and Spain will be able to purchase music from the Google Play store and add up to 20,000 songs—for free—from your existing collection to the cloud for streaming to your Android devices or web browser. We’re also launching our new matching feature to streamline the process of uploading your personal music to Google Play.

We Europeans also get a neat feature those in the US don't have (Yet);
We’ll scan your music collection and any song we match against the Google Play catalog will be automatically added to your online library without needing to upload it, saving you time. This will be available in Europe at launch on November 13 and is coming to the U.S. soon after. This will all be for free

I'm sympathetic for you guys, we've all waiting (except the states) and I am sure it will come with time. The most puzzling is as to why Canada doesn't have it yet. From my experiences they usually get things along with the USA.
I'm sure we'll all get it at some point in 2013.
Really, Google, if you ever read this - you kick ass. I can't wait for the Nexus 4.

Ya I know. Cause we're all rich too according to prices we pay on cell services. We could definitely give some money for music and help out Google. I just don't understand it to be honest. Just like Google wallet too. We are 100% set up for nfc stuff. Everywhere I go I see pay pass as an option to pay, seriously, everywhere!

I am desperately waiting for them to do this. I just can't buy a phone without either a micro SD slot (which Google has clearly no interest in) or at least 32gb onboard for music. Apart fromt he usual phone functions music is the main thing I use my phone for. It would be a massive downgrade for me to go from my Galaxy S with all my music on it to a brand new nexus and hardly enough space for my music. My data allowance per month is only 1.5 gig as well, so streaming might be out of the question even if they do release it here.
Usa ! Usa ! Usa !
I just use MOG here in Australia . Works fine on the Nexus 7 and I can download albums and stream them to a Creative Boombox or plug the Nexus into my car stereo.
I pay about $11a month for it but find it easily worth it. Plus it is quota free on downloads for me so I can stream or download as much as I want.

Whooo hoo! :victory:
I waited so long for this. Google gets better every day!
I hope I have in the future no regrets to bind me so close to Google...
I hope Google has as much music like amazon or Apple. If not, I'll still prefer amazon mp3.
Now we have to wait for it to be incorporated into the many 3rd party ROMs.

With the Official 4.3 debacle I am willing to wait for sure.
Funny thing is KitKat or its features have yet to be officially announced lol.. -__-

This should shed some light.

Cool! This may be enough to get me to root again and try it once the roms are stable.

Android 4.4, KitKat
Break off a piece of KitKat, the latest version of Android.
Beautiful & Immersive
•Just say "Ok Google"
You don't need to touch the screen to get things done. When on your home screen* or in Google Now, just say "Ok Google" to launch voice search, send a text, get directions or even play a song.
•Faster multitasking
Android 4.4 takes system performance to an all-time high by optimizing memory usage in every major component. That means you can run more of your favorite apps and switch between them faster than ever.
Smart & Simple
•The future is calling
The new phone app automatically prioritizes your contacts based on the people you talk to the most. You can also search for nearby places and businesses, your contacts, or people in your Google Apps domain.
•A smarter caller ID
Whenever you get a call from a phone number not in your contacts, your phone will look for matches from businesses with a local listing on Google Maps.
•All your messages in the same place
Never miss a message, no matter how your friend sends it. With the new Hangouts app, all of your SMS and MMS messages are together in the same app, alongside your other conversations and video calls. And with the new Hangouts, you can even share your location and send animated GIFs.
Grab & Go
•Print wherever, whenever
Now you can print photos, documents, and web pages from your phone or tablet. You can print to any printer connected to Google Cloud Print, to HP ePrint printers, and to other printers that have apps in the Google Play Store.
