Hi , I have a brand new nexus one and i am trying to just root it , is there any option to root my phone without all those ROM and Bootloader Stuff ??
If you don't want to use all those fancy roms and bootloader stuff then you will be limited, but yes.
Easiest way is to boot to fastboot and
fastboot oem unlock
Then install su and busybox
Possibly some other necesities but google is your friend and I'm sure a quick search will let you know.
At the same tonken, consider a custom rom, recovery and enginering bootloader, most are happier this way

How To Root
Hi,
I was a noob at rooting at first but i discovered the best way is to fastboot oem unlock then flash a recovery using terminal or command line or whatever then boot into recovery and flash a custom rom or rooted stock. This means you don't have to bother with complicated stuff
Hope that helped
Or see this page just posted:

Super one-click is what I used to root mine it's fool proof.

Fastboot is definitely the easiest way to root your Nexus One. One simple command and your Nexus One is roorted.
You should keep in mind that the phone memory will be wiped and you should keep a recovery zip (4EXT preferable) and a custom ROM handy.

Superboot is a boot.img that when flashed, will root your device the first time you boot -modaco.com/topic/298782-08mar-superboot-erd79-gri40-rooting-the-nexus-one/[/url]
Hi everyone...I bought my HTC One Dual 802d aka m7c_dwg from Flipkart...It was a serious pain in the A** to make the 1st SIM slot work after installing custom ROM which was Chienese RUU..
Here are some steps how to go for it..
Pre -requisites:
Your phone should be rooted
You should have very basic knowledge as to how fastboot and adb works..
1)Enable USB- Debugging mode on your phone..
2)Open command prompt on your windows machine
a)type
adb shell
su
setprop persist.radio.simlock.enable 0
reboot
voilaa...u have just made it work...It has worked for the Russian,Chienese,Indian,Indonesian versions model 802d or m7c_DWG...
Pree Thanks if that helped..

Push the Chinese recovery through fastboot .. When you'll go for reboot it will ask if you want to root.. Its the easiest method . If you have any problem then ask and i'll share the recovery..
All the Chinese roms fir 802d will work but i'll suggest that don't go for that.. Indian RUU is the best till now .

How to root HTC 802d
Hi friends...
Here it is, a tutorial on how to root Indian Version HTC 802d
I Take no credit whatsoever of the recovery files..They solely belong to their creators..Thanks to the person who created them..
You are doing all this at your own risk..I cannot be held liable for any damage that u do to your device.
This was the method that i followed and everything worked..It should ideally work for you as well
Make sure you have the latest drivers installed on your system and check if fastboot and adb are working properly..Tutorial for that can be easily found on the internet..
Attached are two recoveries out of which recover.zip has Chinese recovery which will help in rooting and the other one is TWRP which can be for later use..
1)Boot your phone to fastboot mode..
2)open command promt go to the folder where all the files fastboot ,recoveries(download and unzip) are placed.
3)Make sure fastboot is working properly.
4)If everything is workin as intended then type the command(in fastboot mode)
fastboot flash recovery recovery1.img
5)This will push the recovery to your phone..
6)Go to bootloader then reboot into recovery.
7)This is a recovery which will be in Chinese language..Dont worry its just for this time...Select first option (in English it is reboot system now)
8)It will prompt to root ..select yes wala option..u can easily make out as to which is the option which says yes.
9)let the phone reboot...the phone is now rooted...
10)Now if you want TWRP recovery in English follow steps 1-4 and in the 4th step write command
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
11)Reboot recovery to check if everythings fine...
12)Once you have a rooted phone and a custom TWRP recovery then you can very much install any custom rom from recovery like u do on a samsung...
Btw aditya, does ur phone have purple tint camera issue?

Hi nitin,
Ya you need to have unlocked bootloader for that. Plus you need to have custom recovery (TWRP for the sake of english). I hate TWRP cuz I was well accustomed with CWM recoveries. Unfortunately CWM recovery for the time being is only available in chinese .Anyways you need to follow the procedure provided by Aditya above. After flashing recovery1.img (which is CWM recovery in chinese). You will get the option to root it just after selecting the chinese option to reboot. You can figure it out when the option to root will be asked that will be written in english... Go to fastboot again and flash recovery.img now (which is TWRP in english).
Once you flashed TWRP recovery. Put my Root.zip to your internal SD CARD. Go back to TWRP recovery. Choose Install. Select the Root.zip and once completed installing. Reboot to Sense 5. Voila you will see a superuser icon. Now wherever an app needs root access just grant the root access. All set and done...... Enjoy.
I will soon post the links of custom roms for our device. The support is in very early stages as 802d with Google Play is only available for India. Europe editions 802d are yet to be launched. Fingers crossed. :good:
Yes you can update to 4.3 when custom roms would be available. Using the TWRP you can flash 4.3 custom roms, or rom utility update (RUU) will hopefully be launched by HTC to get the stock sense xperience of 4.3 Jellybean.

I have come from motorola > moto glam and droid razr and simple utilities work for those phones. I have a sony tab and i never needed to unlock bootloader for root.
here in HTC, the terminology and things r so confusing like ruu, twrp, etc etc.
also with dual sim version there is hardly any development which does not makes things earlier. you need to search for info which adds to the confusion.
I need to do some serious reading to succeed with HTC, lol.
can you offer some pointers.

I have a developer edition that I want to return to stock recovery and get the 4.3 OTA update. I'm a bit confused about the best method and during my research came across the downloads on the HTC Dev site. On there, I see that they have the 4.1.2 zip for the developer edition. This raises two questions that I'm hoping someone can help me with.
1) Will this return me to stock and remove the CWM recovery so that I can complete the OTA update?
2) If so, how do I use install the .zip? Do I simply use the CWM recovery tool to install it? Can anyone provide a link to how to complete this?
Apologies for the basic questions, but I'm very confused at the moment.

What firmware are you on?
Unless you're S-off you can't flash a RUU that is lower than your current firmware version.
RUU.zips are flashed in fastboot RUU mode. But if you can use the .exe file it'll automate the whole process.

I'm currently on 4.1.2. I just got the phone and all I've done is flashed CWM recovery to root it and install TiBu. However, I didn't think to update it to the latest update.
So, would I be S-off on a developer edition?
Also, I understand fastboot, but not fastboot RUU. Is this accessible in the CWM recovery mode?
I really appreciate your help. I'm getting a bit frustrated.
Dev Editions are not S-off.
Do a search and read up on S-off, as you still have the opportunity to gain it, but the possibility will be gone once you update.
"fastboot oem rebootRUU"
"fastboot flash zip ruu.zip"
"fastboot flash zip ruu.zip"
(Yes, twice)
Check to be sure everything was successful.
"fastboot reboot"
I'm not sure if you need S-off or not to do it though...

I've spent hours on unlocking and rooting my vzw developer's edition. First, the SDK that motorola tells you to download to get fastboot doesn't include fastboot! There are a few ways to get it, but following Motorola's instructions won't get you there. (thanks so much Motorola for posting a solution that doesn't work).
Do Not install the OTA update....if you do, you will not be able to root your phone and you will have to reinstall the stock drivers. It's easy to do, but it will take hours for you to realize that you have to do this. If you have the OTA update already installed, get rid of it by installing the drivers from the motorola site for the developer edition phone (VZW).
You do not need to download the sidekick package that motorola tells you to download in order to unlock your phone. In fact, if you do install it, you still won't have fastboot which is the program you need. Motorola left it out of the most recent sdk. Don't even bother to find another sdk or fastboot....just find TWRP 2.6.3.1 which is a zipped package findable in many places (google is your friend). Unzip that package and voila....there's fastboot and the dll's to support it.
Now,, no thanks to Motorola, you are ready to get the unlock from your phone so you can ask motorola for the unlock key from motorola using fastboot.
note: fastboot is a CMD application! If you just click on it, it will flash the cmd box and seem to do nothing. You have to open cmd and then find/execute fastboot from there. It's an ugly process....thank you again Motorola.
Once your phone is unlocked, you can use the 1 step install for TWRP.
I realize I should write this up with every step...but I've spent almost two days on something that should take about 15 minutes...and I'm not exactly a newby to this stuff. Motorola just made it as hard as possible to do something that's so simple.
After you have root can you then update to kitkat or will you lose root then?

On a VZW dev edition? Just unlock it at any time kitkat or not, then flash TWRP and then superSU binary, it's as easy as that
Rooting the VZW dev edition moto x is EASY.
Go ahead and install all OTA updates.
Download and install latest Android SDK (comes with adb and fastboot).
Unlock bootloader following instructions on moto's website
Download TWRP and flash using fastboot
Boot into recovery and make a nandroid backup
Reboot phone from TWRP. It will ask if you would like to install superuser and root phone.
done.

Sorry teooki....it SHOULD be easy, but it isn't. Fastboot is NOT included in the SDK that motorola has you download on their unlock page. Yes, it's included on other sites, but not on the one that Motorola distributes. So if you follow their directions, you can't find fastboot, etc.
Your direction should work....Motorola's don't.
I followed Moto's instructions and it worked without issue (Except one of my own making).

If you download the sidekick today, it downloads V1.7 and it does not contain fastboot and the two dll's needed. Earlier, they were giving V1.6 which was complete. This is a new issue with V1.7...and it's something that new users or those who are trying to unlock/root their phones will find incredibly annoying.
(hopefully, they have fixed the Motorola delivered v1.7, but last week, it did not include those files).

It's really easy to unroot then root again (on the developer edition)
Rooting by itself won't stop OTA updates. Installing a custom ROM not based on stock firmware will though.
You might have to re-root after getting an OTA update though.

Just to clarify, it seems that you must use Motorola's version of fastboot, not the one included in the SDK. I used the SDK version to flash TWRP several times, and each time it appeared to be successful, but it was not. Then I discovered that I needed Motorola's fastboot, found it on the forums here, and used it to flash TWRP. That worked.
Need helping finding a stock Non HK rom of Software 2.16.651.4. I need to unroot my device and have failed at finding a 2.16.651.4 backup to be able to flash back and unroot. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. I have done hours of google searches and haven't been been to find anything other than odex or deodexed roms which won't work. I tried using a back up and flashing back to an older software version but it failed to update back up so had to reroot. Can anyone please help
Here is the 2.16.651.4 RUU, straight from HTC. Look under the section titled "Manual System Update Instructions". This will unroot your device and install the stock Android system recovery. If you're S-on you'll need to relock the bootloader first using the command "fastboot oem lock" (from the bootloader) while connected via Fastboot USB mode. If you're S-off you do not need to relock the bootloader. Afterwards, just follow the instructions on HTC's site to install the RUU.

Fastboot oem lock is a command that you type in to a command terminal on your computer while your phone is connected via Fastboot USB mode. The command relocks your bootloader. You need to have a working ADB/Fastboot environment set up on your computer first in order to do so. Hit the link below for more info.

This is a reason I hate toolkits. They simplify everything but don't teach you very little, if anything

If the toolkit has that capability, sure. As far as S-off, no, you don't need it.

It does have the capability to relock the boot loader you just need to flash a stock backup to do so. Which is why I posted originally. The only stock backsup I can find are for version 1.54.x which I tried using but it failed to update to newer versions got the red triangle so I had to re root. to flash the current firmware. The only versions of the current firmwear I can find is stock odex and deodexed which I was told won't work. If I do it the adb way d I need to be on 1.54 or can I still be on the 2.16 rom. If I could just find a stock rom or backup (deleted mine by accident) t would be much easier.
Here is a stock rooted ROM based off the latest OTA update. Download & flash in recovery:

Why again are you trying to unroot your phone?
You should be able to open a command prompt/cmd window from the toolkit.
Once open type
Code:
adb devices
This should return your serial number with Device next to it
If it does type
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Once in bootloader type
Code:
fastboot oem lock
Then run the RUU in post 4 Magnum_Enforcer linked you to.
You will be completely stock afterwards

Don't know much about SIM unlocking so I can't answer that part of the question. Updating via RUU, OTA or custom ROM won't put you back S-on.
I wanted to know If anyone had a link for the 2.16.651.4 stock recovery
