[Q] verizon droid 4 micro sim question - Motorola Droid 4

I recently purchased a Verizon Droid 4 from the previous owner with intentions of activating with my current service provider, a local prepaid store. I can't even access the launcher, as I am greeted upon powering on the device with a prompt to insert a sim card.. I was told by an associate at the local Verizon store that they no longer carried these due to their being outdated...? So my question is, first off is there any possible way around the purchase of a micro-sim (available on Verizon's site) and if not then will I be able to get service through my current prepaid carrier? The confusing thing to me is this required micro sim, to the best of my understanding, serves the sole purpose of providing Verizon's 4g LTE service.. My carrier obviously doesn't offer 4g, so must I obtain one of these micro sims simply to get past the prompt? Tanks in advance for any help and input...

To my understanding this is (in the US) a Verizon only phone.... There is a trick to get past that prompt tho..If you search around the forum here you will find it... Like 24 or so topics below this one....

re
ok, anyone know anything about the sim requirement? possible workaround? Assurance Verizon MicroSIM wil be compatible with prepaid carrier?

you shouldn't need a SIM at all to bypass the activation screen....
touch left of screen right under the status bar
touch the right hand side
bottom right (right above the buttons)
bottom left
keep doing that until it activates itself, may take a couple of tries but it will work

If i unlock my phone, will T-MO charge me for it?

my dads house gets ZERO SERVICE but i am 99 percent sure that AT&T gets fair coverage there. i have tried to connect to AT&T's service but my sim card doesnt support it. i did some reasearch and have found that in order to register on AT&T's network, i need an unlocked sim card. only problem is, are there any charges that follow with doing that? and will T-MO just unlock it because i ask them too?
Just call them and tell them you are going out of the country and need an unlock code.
Here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=474144
ok the reason i wanna unlock it is to
connect to at and t's service at my dads house because he doesnt get any service there. so if i unlock it, will i be able to connect to at and t's service for free?
yes i read the thread and searched so dont get mad if this is a normal/ noobish question.

If you currently have T-Mobile then you need an AT&T Sim card to place in your G1. When you boot it will come up saying Unregistered Sim and will ask for a SIM Unlock code. After you enter the code you will be able to use the AT&T Sim card in your G1. You will NOT have data unless you change the APN's. Contact AT&T for that information or search for AT&T APN information.
If you ask T-Mobile for the SIM unlock code they are likely going to ask you to clearify. There is a sim lock (which protects your text messages and contacts) and it is programmed in your sim card. Then there is the NETWORK lock (or subsidy code) which will allow your phone to be used on almost any network. You need the SUBSIDY lock. Not the sim unlock.
To qualify for the SUBSIDY code for T-Mobile contact them by calling the toll free number. Do not call them from the phone because they will need the IMEI.
1) You need to be on a non-prepaid plan for at least 90 days of active and uninterrupted service. If yes, go to 2.
2) Call T-Mobile Customer Care from landline and give them the IMEI of the G1.
3) If you give them a valid reason for having it unlocked then they will submit a request and you should get your subsidy unlock code in about 72 hours via e-mail. BTW... telling them you want it unlocked so that you can use a competitors service is probably not the best request.
4) Once you've aqcuired the subsidy code, boot up your G1 with the AT&T SIM inside and enter the code provided in your e-mail from T-Mobile.
5) Contact AT&T for the APN information or find it here on XDA (search).
6) Enter the APN information by:
On home screen press MENU
Go to SETTINGS
Go to WIRELESS CONTROLS
Go to MOBILE NETWORKS
Go to ACCESS POINT NAMES
Press MENU
Select NEW APN
Fill in the blanks
You will never have to enter the subsidy code for your G1 again (even after a wipe or flashing to another ROM.)
NOTE: If you can't get the code from T-Mobile there are services on the web that will unlock for a fee. These usually range about $20 or so. There is no cost from getting it from T-Mobile should you qualify. Good luck.

ok thank you all so much, but some final questions,
ok so i can just call at and t and tell them that i would be interested in getting my phone unlocked because at my dads house t mobile doesnt get service, but they do, and i want to connect to their service?
also should i just visit the closest at and t store to do this?
if i have an at and t sim in will my billing and account info stay they same? like my plan wont change and t mobile would still be my mobile network even thoughi have an at and t sim card?
and i know i am planning on telling them that i am going overseas for 2 weeks for a vacation. that seems to work with these dudes.
P.S.!
will AT&T want me to sign a contract with them if i ask for one of their sim cards??? i just thought of that. i dont want a contract with them! lol. will they (AT&T) charge me for when i use their sim card and network?

Is this a serious question? If you were AT&T would you let someone use your network for free?
You might be able to use a pay-as-you-go AT&T SIM card in an unlocked G1. Not 100% sure about it so don't quote me on that.
fml i wasnt thinking
i totally overlooked that fact. dang
unlocking the phone will allow you to use pre paid sims with att as well
and you might be able to get a month by month contract with them (not sure of their available plans) either way google should show you the way

How do I make my Streak activated on TMO with a phone SIM card ?

If I delete the EFS folder, will a standard T MObile SIM card work on my Streak ?
Reason is TMobile will not activate data when it detects I have a tablet. I need a way to hide I have a Streak.
i have simple mobile which is basically tmobile and i used the sim with the tablet and the data worked just like on the phone. Why dont u activate the sim on a phone and then swap it to the tablet. am just saying it might work

Nope, that doesn't work. I have TMobile with data on my phone, when I swap my SIM into the tablet the data ceases to work.
I called TMO about this and they said I cannot use a SIm from a phone to work on a tablet, I need a different SIM with a Mobile Broadband data plan only.
I bought the Streak used, without a SIM.
I know some people on the Samsung Tab forum went through this, and they had to erase the EFS folder in the tablet so, it doesn't show the correct info when it connects to TMO.
Now I am trying to find out if I can do same with mine or maybe if there's a custom ROM that describes the unit as a phone instead of tablet.
I believe only samsung devices store their device data in /efs.
The streak 7 stores in a seperate partition, but it's binary data instead of a filesystem with files.
When I got this tablet I had to get a separate sim
If you email
[email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]
They will give you an unlock code (about 48 hour turn around) - device works with about any active SIM card
I have an unlocked Streak 7 4G (bought it off of buy.com a couple weeks back) and I can confirm that you will have the same problems on the ATT network.
I tried 2 different SIMs and none of them would register data. I ended up having to spring for a (pricey) DataConnect plan and endure the petty sales pitch to go with an ATT branded tablet.
Unless there's something about the Dell unlock code I'm missing I do not believe it will have any impact on carrier filtering as carriers use the IMEI number to determine the device class (at least AT&T does).

i have a tmobile verion DS7 i can put my att sim card to it and use it as with out a tablet plan with ATT. when i call tmobile trying to request a unlock code they asked for my IMEI number and they wasn't able to find it on their system. i end up emailing dell to get the unlock code which they only ask for the service tag number. i don't think tmobile have my IMEI in their system. just something on the device telling tmobile it's a tablet. i even try to remove DS7 from the account online, but as soon as u put your sim card in again it will detect it

Straight Talk And Sprint Cluster F HTc One $ S3

So i wanted to do the BYOP with straight talk.. Went to the store got a BYOP Kit $59 and another 1 month $45 Card. Then (after checkin straight talk's MEID check on there site) Checked the MEID of the Samsung S3.. Went thru the activation process and it went thru fine.. Phone Didnt work. It was stock no root ect. Well... I suspected maybe there was a lost/stolen or past due so i called sprint and after 4 attempts and some social engineering that SWIM is not and is proud of was able to determine there is 249 balance and they wont release the phone .. The guy lied to me and said it was deavticated and free and clear. Great.
So yesterday I find a HTC one with a cracked screen but still works.. Great. I run the MEID thru straight talk and Sprint and its good and clear.. Awesome no past due's everything is ok.
Get home tried using the Tmobile Micro Sim and completed the activation process and it goes thru ok! (Dont you love how they make ya feel warm n fuzzy..) I go into the setting on the HTC one and change the mobile data between 4g lte Cdma to gsm and then do the root and sim unlock running viper and get the hidden menu and via *#*#4636#*#* and change the settings to WCDMA GSM ONLY Gsm Auto Prl.. And nothing..
Then spent 2 hours on the phone with Straight talk, got them to cancle out the Tmobile sim and Activated a Att Mirco Sim (They Said it would be better coverage ect) And still Notta.. I got a Htc One 32gb Boot Loader Unlocked (Presumably SIM Unlock) and Rooted and Would really like to get it working on Straigh talk.. I have seen a couple of people on here that have accomplised this But cant get a response from them how they did it.
I really need a working phone cause of the kids, ect. Does anyone have any ideas?
I also have seen how some of these knock off MVNO's say that a past due bal isnt a issue and they can flash a Sprint phone No Issue.. But seems like the S3 wont work unless someone knows of a sure fire place that can do it.
Or getting my HTC ONE to work on a Sprint MVNO but im assuming they will want a UICC# or Sprint 4g Mico Sim card number. And I dont know how to get one of those or who might have them.
Any one have any solutions how i can accomplish getting a working Phone preferably with 4g.. Id even trade these damn things out at this point. I would most likely like to get that HTC One on Sprint thats been unlocked to work with straight talk using its International Capabilities and the ATT Micro Sim that is now active and registered because i have 3 months paid thru them.. Any ideas?

Non-Verizon Branded Nexus 6 on Verizon Network - Need startup help

I need to know the do's and don'ts with adding a non-Verizon branded Nexus 6 to the Verizon network. For example, I read that dialing *228 with Verizon will disable some features on the phone.
1. I purchased the Nexus 6 64gb through the Google Playstore and plan to activate it through Verizon. What are the do's and don't of getting the phone operational?
2. What are the do's and don't after getting the phone operational?
3. Screen burning looks to be a concern. Is there any screen break-in procedure to help prevent screen burning?
Are there any threads out there that have all of this information in one place? Similar to the rooting thread found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/general/how-to-nexus-6-one-beginners-guide-t2948481
Thanks in advance for the help.
I just stuck the sim card in and booted up. Next went to the Verizon site and activated Advanced Calling. Then did the following...
"In order to enable the setting on your phone, head into the dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#*. When you hit that last *, your phone will jump into the hidden settings menu. Choose “Phone info” and then scroll down until you see an option for “TURN ON VOLTE PROVISIONED FLAG.” Tap that and then reboot your phone (I had to reboot twice for some reason to get it to work). Once booted, head into your phone’s regular settings menu, tap on “More” under “Wireless & networks,” then “Cellular networks.” You should now see an option for “Enhanced 4G LTE Mode” and it should be toggled on."
It was already provisioned evidently from activating on Verizon. It'll say TURN OFF if you're already provisioned. While I was in the "Cellular Networks" settings I changed Preferred Network Type from Global to LTE/CDMA. Then unlocked the bootloader, rooted with The Nexus Toolkit(because I'm getting lazy) and then flashed a 5.1 rom. You may (or not) want to leave your bootloader unlocked according to this thread. I don't know ,I haven't read the whole thing and wasn't planning on re-locking anyway.

Tag cause mine arrives tomorrow. Same deal.
I traded for an at&t n6 popped my Verizon Sim in and everythings been smooth, it was already rooted and boot loader unlocked, I've installed twrp. My question is, are there any Roms I shouldn't flash, or are all Roms for the n6 game?

*228 is not how you activate a 4G LTE phone on Verizon - that is only for 3G and basic phones.

Call Verizon and tell them you are buying a used Moto X for your line and get them to mail you a nano SIM card.
Then when you get the N6, call Verizon tech support and ask that they put your new N6's IMEI on the whitelist - they need to fill out a form to do that. Call back the next day and have them activate the SIM card they sent you in the N6.
If they can great, if not, then wait another day and see if the request to whitelist the IMEI goes through. If not, then you need to get an IMEI of a Verizon branded phone to get the SIM card active on your line.
What phone is on your line now?
Then after you get the N6 active on your line, you need to get HD voice active on the line.
Sweet, also, I had already activated advance calling on my note edge, will I have go back and reactivate it? I just went into the hidden menu and I don't see the "turn on volte

My Verizon Galaxy Nexus is the phone that's currently on my line.
I went to the Verizon store handed them my Google phone and they made it work. Maybe I was lucky I don't know.
Sent from my Google N6 on VZ

OK, well that uses a micro SIM card so you can't use it to get the nano SIM activated. But hopefully they can get your N6 IMEI on the whitelist.

I'd be curious to know this as well. Is it listed as a "Non VZW Device"? Or does it show as a Nexus 6? I called 2 different CS reps, and they all told me it is no problem to activate a device from Google Play Store. Same response from a corporate Verizon Store. Further more, I asked about the $25/month discount sticking and he says the discount is subject to your contract. Not your device on the plan. As long as your device is not on EDGE, and you're not on contract, you are entitled to the $25 monthly discount.
I purchased a sim cutter, and I'm jsut up in the air whether to get a 64GB from the playstore, or just buy from Verizon.

Yes, you are entitled to it, that is not the issue. The issue is that if the system shows a non-Verizon device on the line, the discount hasn't been sticking through to the next billing cycle and people have had to call to get it readded each month. YMMV.

The sim card is tied to your account so you wouldn't want to include it in a sale anyway. The buyer needs to pick up a new card and have it activated.
Thank you!...I just always remember putting in the IMIE on Verizon so I thought the device was tied to the account as well but thank you for the clarification.

Verizon gives you SIM cards for free and lots of people mess up their SIM cards when they cut them down.
You only have to pay for a SIM card at a VAR.

Carrier Sim lock after Samsung repair

So I bought a Sprint Note 8 (SM-N95OU) that was unlocked from eBay over a year ago. We use T-mobile for our service. Everything was going good until the phone would no longer boot up due to draining all the way to 0%. Called Samsung and they did a free replacement outside of warranty.
So now that it's been repaired it is UICC SIM carrier locked.
Under UICC unlock it says "your device is locked to Sprint SIMS only." A message pops up and says to contact sprint. I contact sprint and give the IMEI and they said I have to contact the owner. I assume they never unregistered it from their account.
Is there anyway we can go back to using the phone? I mean we paid for it and feel like we own it but according to the software it does not seem to be the case. Lol.
Will putting a Sprint SIM in unlock It? I notice it doesn't ask for a pin and I think I read they are unlocked via a signal. That signal would have to be resent or would communication on the Sprint network alone unlock it. Not sure If somehow it will know to unlock itself once it connects to sprints network?
Anyway any help or direction is appreciated. Not sure if I need to sell it to a Sprint user and get a different phone now.
Well I just paid somebody on eBay 10$ to unlock it. So far so good.
I had a very similar situation whichresulted in weeks of back-and-forth communication between Samsung and Sprint advanced technical support. Which that department is a joke in and of itself but the actual solution to my problem was just to insert an active Sprint SIM card into the device and then have them unlock it.
