I think the lt30a is the AT&T phone. You may be able to get an unlock code from them. I had no problem getting an unlock code from AT&T when I sold my S3 to buy this phone.
EDIT: I read this wrong. the AT&T version is lt30at. Sorry.
yes.
from what i undestand it was bought in uk.
some people are confusing the 2 unlock types
Just in case, the sim unlock process is a simple one, just insert another sim from the other provider and enter the code provided.
Unlocking the bootloader is not possible with some versions including the lt30a - at least a method does not yet exist - unless you are working with the models that have unlocking enabled. Check other posts which cover this topic extensively.
yes i know it asks for the SIM network unlock PIN, i do not have one.
and also i know that the bootloader isn't unlockable, i've checked in service info. i don't need unlocked bootloader for now as i have rooted the latest stock 4.1.2, only problem i have it with the sim lock..
got the sim network unlock pin from network operator, thread can be closed
Or put [solved] in the title

I couldn't find anything by searching the older threads so here is my question:
Is it possible (and reasonably save) to try and unlock the bootloader in a SIM locked x8? Just to clarify: I don't want to remove the SIM lock from my phone - I'm happy with my current provider. I'm just wondering if I can unlock the bootloader while I still have a SIM lock on my phone.
All the threads about unlocking seemed to be concerned about how the phone was SIM unlocked rather than whether it was actually necessary...
Thanks a lot in advance..!
anyone please?
I just want to know if I can unlock my bootloader while I still have a SIM lock in place. Or will I brick my phone then? I don't want to remove the SIM lock. Just flash a custom kernel so I can get proper wifi tether...
same question... now,why is necessary have unlocked by operator the phone ???
is very maddening D:
so so please developers unlock bootloader with phone locked by operator, many peoples will thank you

Hi. The day I got the HTC One (from Bell) I went through the "unlock bootloader" and rooting process. Everything went fine and I've been using various ROMs and Kernels.
My question is: Is my phone "unlocked" as in able to be used with other carriers? I thought that's what unlocking the bootloader is.
I'm asking this because I got a SIM card for cheap roaming in the US, which I tried to test yesterday. When I booted the phone after putting in the Roam sim card, it prompted me to enter an 8 digit access (or pin) code. I had no idea what that was. And when I called support they said I would get that prompt if my phone wasn't unlocked.
So... is unlocking bootloader the same as unlocking from a specific carrier?
Yes, you can use all carrer if your phone isn't SIMLocked by the carrier.
So, seems that your sim is blocked, 8 digit for pin is the puk for unlock your sim.
How can I know 100% if my phone is unlocked? (other than inserting a SIM from another carriers). Is there something in settings that indicates unlocked?

I'm not sure what you mean. The phone was originally branded with Bell Canada. Then I unlocked the bootloader and rooted.

Unlocking the bootloader has nothing to do with unlocking the phone to use on other carriers. Your device is still SIM locked If you want to be able to use your phone with another carrier's SIM card, you will have to find a website that provides such service, like cellunlocker.netcellunlocker.net

i have a Sony Xperia Z1. the model number is C6906. i bought it directly from Sony and its Unlocked . it was working on every sim card. But i flashed the C6906 firmware of the other branded network provider. now it's network locked with that network provider. it only works with the sim card of that network. when i put any other sim card, the dialog box appears and it tells to insert network unlock code. when i contact that network, they told me to get their sim card and use it for 90 days. then they will provide me the unlock code. why should i have to use their sim card for 90 days to get the unlock code, because my phone is already factory unlocked from sony. i went to 3rd party websites which provide network unlock codes. but they didn't find the unlock code for my phone, because that phone is not present in the database of that network provider. that means i can only get the unlock code from that network code by using their sim card for 90 days. but that network is not working in my area. please suggest how can i make it unlock again as it was before ? i will be very thankful
flashing FTF files will not affect the SIM lock status of a phone.
It will neither lock an unlocked one nor will it unlock a locked one.

i flashed the firmware of Rogers for my unlocked xperia z1 C6906, which was Branded Firmware. my phone was working fine with all sim cards. but few days ago i put the sim card of rogers, the phone automatically restart and also install some rogers network apps in phone menu. after that when i put other sim card, the network unlock code dialogue box appears. it means that phone got locked with rogers now. the rogers technicians said me if you flashed rogers branded firmware, then if you ever put rogers sim card in it, then device will locked to rogers even if its unlocked from sony.
well, not sure how that works as its the first time I ever heard that happening. Not that I don't trust operators but I often find they do not know what they are talking about when it comes to the kind of things we do here at XDA
But, if what you say is true, flashing another FTF will NOT help.

can xda developers develop any software for that ? so that the network unlock code dialog box disappear and phone reset with original factory unlock setting

that is not really what we do here. there are loads of websites for that, and rogers say they will give you an unlock code in 90 days anyway.
How can I install a custom ROM without an unlocked bootloader?
My phone says its bootloader cannot be unlocked
Mine too , it's must to be a solution to unlock the bootloader...
No, there is no solution
If it says it cannot be unlocked then it cannot be unlocked
Look in the development section for stock based custom roms that can be installed with a locked bootloader
To my experience it needs to be sim unlocked first in order to be bootloader unlocked. In a Xperia Z it said it couldn't unlock bootloader, i purchased unlock code, got it unlocked and then reflashed stock image. After that the status on "bootloader unlock allowed" was changed to yes.

Please provide proof of that, because this has never happened before and would be fantastic news
Also, some sim locked phones can have bootloaders unlocked and some sim free phones have bootloaders that cannot be unlocked. SO your logic is wrong.

Can't provide proof as 1) the bootloader was already unlocked 2) I don't even have the phone anymore.
I don't know if you find my logic right or wrong it was what happened to MY experience with one phone.
I'm pretty sure devs can give you a technical explanation about why it can or can't happen.

OK thanks.
I know what the devs will say. They will say it cant happen. This has been talked about ad infinitum across various xperia devices.
Also, if your boot was already unlocked then how did you know the status changed?
Thanks anyway.

When i got the phone (telcel mexico) it said the bootloader was not allowed to be unlocked.
I purchased an unlock code. Entered the code, unlocked the phone.
I flashed an upgraded FW via FTF
typed *#*#SERVICE#*#* and boom bootloader unlock statys changed to yes
That's how i know the status changed. So basically that's my story. I thought it could work with every device.
@gregbradley maybe the sim unlock method really works to change unlock bootloader status YES..bcs it works for some sony device, and we need to test this on Z1.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896553
There is nothing in that thread that confirms this. Plus the test point method to unofficially unlock the bootloader was stopped by Sony nearly 2 years ago.
But please, delve into this again if you want. But trust me it is a dead end and does not work. If it was easy as sim unlocking and flashing a ftf do you not think that would have been done by now.
Some seriously good devs have been working on this ever since the test point method was closed.

Hey,
I wanted to root my XZ1 compact, unfortunaly I realized that my bootloader is unable to be unlocked.
I am a bit confused, as I thought the unlocking is not allowed if your phone is blocked by your carrier, but this phone doesn't have a branding and has no simlock.
Are there other reasons why a bootloader unlocking isn't allowed?
I got this phone as a display model from I think it was UK, perhaps this could be why.
If someone has an idea if there could be a way to unlock, I would be very grateful, even though I know that it doesn't seem possible.
Edit: Ok I think the bootloader is still blocked by the carrier MyEE, their app is on the phone. So it's probably because of them that the phone is blocked, even though I can use other SIM cards...
If somebody knows what I could do to unblock the bootloader, please tell me.
Thank you!

If the phone came from EE or any other carrier the BL will be locked, getting a code to unlock the sim won't unlock the BL, so unfortunately you're stuck with a BL locked phone.
