Phone: Samsung Galaxy S Plus | GT-I9001
Status: Rooted, and Working - Original OS.
Installed: ROM Manger.
Hardware: Internal SD Card - No external
Hi I'm new here, I have rooted my mobile about a year ago, but haven't done anything else to it, but now I want to install a custom ROM on it.
The ROM I want to to install: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2251671
I have looked around for tutorials about installing a ROM, but every tutorial, says something different... I'm total noob to all this, and paranoid, I don't want to **** my mobile up.
I only have an internal SD card on my, read somewhere that it were possible to do it, if you had the latest version of Clock Work Mod.
Hope someone can guide me through wile doing this :/

N7100 is a Galaxy Note i think. The only thing you need to backup is a file explorer and root. Just backup your efs folder located in your main system directory. There should be a folder called efs. You can use ES File Explorer for that or nitrality.

Seems like something is messed up
Try this:
1. Flash a stock rom with Odin
2. Flash a root kernel for the stock rom
Now you should have everything working.
have you tried to flash cwm via Odin?
Re-Download the file it may have been corrupted
Then follow the guide again.. remember to follow word by word

there are a number of problems with the recovery in the just leaked
Froyo ROM.
1. signature checking
2. passing API version 3 to the updater binary
3. forced wipe after installing an update.zip
the attached zip has a 3e recovery modified to disable signature checking
report API version 2 for backwards compatibility with clockwork mod recovery
and disable the forced wipe after installing any update.
I don't know of any reason to run this version over 2e but it
might be useful to someone.
Installing:
1. turn on USB debugging
2. plug into computer
3. run script and follow on screen prompts.

yeah, he attached it after that post lol
how do you use this?
ok i wil bite. how do you use/flash this it cw is not accesible?
rename to update.zip i assume...... i mean thats how u flash everythign thats zip file if u cant get into clockwork.....
you cant flash this you will have to put the files on the internal sdcard
then use root explorer or adb to move the files into place, recovery goes to
/system/bin and the keys to /efs, update.zip is the clockwork recovery and
stays on the sdcard.
when you boot into recovery and choose re-install packages clockwork will
be able to do its thing.
I do like the sig verification but it's a PITA and may disable it, this is a temp
fix until I can finish hacking on recovery there is very little clues as to where
the functions are so it may be a few days.
forgot to mention to you also have to remount /system rw
mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/stl9 /system
Be-ware. Doing so on the ODIN 2E version will break Recovery all together.
Fine to replace on the Stock 2.2 ..
Ps.
Another Awesome Job untermensch
Not to sound like a total noob, but what benefit does this have over the current 2e recovery?

I haven't tried just replacing 3e with 2e, I doubt there is any advantage to
3e, to us anyway. but it is always worth while to find ways around these
things.
EDIT:
just replacing 3e with 2e did not work cant find the update.zip
Im suprised more people havent commented. I downloaded the first Stock version of JK2 and i tether so redownloading is not really what i wanted to do...plus i have a Mac so Id have to borrow my buddys pc again...anyway
This workedvgreat! For thise who might need it:
Place all files on the root of SD internal memory card
Copy keys file to /efs
Copy recovery file to /system/bin/ (backup old on first)
Leave all other files on SD internal
Reboot into stock recovery and select Reinstall Packages
itll do its thing and reboot into stock recovery again. From there youre set...just select reinstall packages each time.
Youre a life saver...thank you sir!

Thanks untermensch for your work and thanks to the TJD319 for the clear step by step instructions.
Getting can't mount partition after I select a zip file to flash. I can get to cwr fine and it sees the sdcard (internal) fine since I can navigate and select the file I want. The error comes when I try flash. All the files in the zip are in the root of the sd internal, except for recovery and keys that are in the directory /system/bin and /efs respectively. Any advice?

Yo man i really appreciate your work. Froyos been great to me Stock 2.2 and this is perfect man. Working flawlessly for me and Im just happy to be able to nandroid.
I'm kinda stuck now. Ever since I installed cm7 rc5.3 I cannot install from sd card - anything. It cannot open any file when I try to install an update and only message is (BAD) Installation Aborted. Therefore when I tried to install rc5.4 I couldn't!
I don't want to flash through odin again cos thats the whole point of not having to wipe data etc on this new rom (hopefully). Before anyone asks, yes I have tried to unmount and unmount sd card and also toggled signature verification etc etc

You know whether this works or not, its a fantastic idea. I will try and let you know!
Well flashed cwm 4 through odin with no results, however I think I already had cwm 4 anyway cos couldn't install cwm 5 because of same installation problem. However now it has allowed me to install cwm 5 and after reboot recovery still this same message with rc5.4
Code:
Finding update package. . .
Opening update package. . .
E: Can't open /sdcard/update-cm-7.2-RC5.4-GalaxyMini-Release-signed.zip(bad)
Installation aborted
I'm gonna try and redownload. Perhaps the download waas corrupted halfway through. I tried through a different sd card and still no results.
Edit* Think I've found the problem. I knew something was up as soon as I visited the download page. The 2 file sizes were completely different so something happened with the first download of rc5.4 so hopefully now (fingers crossed) everything should be fine! =)
Edit2* However it's not all fine. When I downloaded, it only downloaded 95.2mb instead of 95.3mb and the last time it downloaded it only downloaded 33.9mb. Does anyone have the full file perhaps they can upload elsewhere?? Please, I've been waiting a week to flash this =(
so i think cwm is not responsible for the error the problem is you have not downloaded the package properly
ok to find the problem delete maket, youtube app and try to flash gapps package after mounting system and data if the package get installed then cwm is ok. and redownload the package

Kilobyte differences may not mean a file is corrupted. Try comparing the checksums of the file with software like this:

your idea of checking md5sum is good but donot unestimate a single kb suppose if the update binary is not there then cwm will not install the package
Ok
Please forgive me I have spent up to 7 hours today searching and trying but to no luck.
So I didnt realise what i was doing and Semi Bricked my Phone. I edited build.prop and saved it in MyExplorer(name?) to try and turn off the camera sounds and when I rebooted, it just gets stuck on the galaxy S 2 screen, boot loop.
I'm on SGSII (Australia) Stock Vodafone's ICS 4.0.3 Rooted.
I have CWM installed but tried a few things:
- I can get into Download MOde (no idea what to do here)
- I can get into CWM mode 5.0.2.7 Recovery mode but cant do anything still.
- I tried various Edify script builders to try and put the original build.prop back in but get multiple Status 0 errors whenever I try update.zip from the SD card.
- I tried rebuilding the backup on there and changing the build.prop file on there and trying to restore but MD5 check fails. Even tried rebuilding the MD5 file with the modified files and still no luck. MD5 files fails.
Would anyone have any suggestions and how to resolve this without a flash or wipe? I didnt back recent backup and will lose everything.
I am coming to a point where I really am wanting to back to Apple
There are 2 build.props attached. One is the bad one that stopped me from booting up and I found another one that was named .bak (extension taken off) I found in the same directory (/SYSTEM)
If anyone can help me build an update.zip to push in via CVM I would greatly be in your debt (I tried for 4 hours with no luck)
If you have recovery and download mode yet nothing is lost.
In first, do saved your apps ?
If you had saved them or if it doesn't matter to you, reflash a rom via recovery
LINK HERE:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/get/jenkins/2773/cm-9-20120615-NIGHTLY-galaxys2.zip
Flash it GoogleApps folder
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip
The rom that I attached to the reply is a CM9 ICS version, it's quitly stable and we can have some settings on it.
If it doesn't work reflash with Odin (it's with software who use the Download Mode)
http://hotfile.com/dl/149514867/aea2f22/I9100XXLPQ_I9100OXALPQ_XEO.zip.html
Instructions
-Unzip the Rom Folder ( I9100XXLPQ..........)
-Open the included Odin
-Put your phone on Download Mode
-Click PDA and select I9100_CODE_I9100XXKP*_CL*_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
-Click PHONE and select MODEM_I9100XX*_REV_02_CL*.tar.md5
-Click CSC and GT-I9100-MULTI-CSC-OXA*.tar.md5
-Click Start and don't touch anything still the colored case become green
-And now your phone resurrects
Reply me of results
thanks for your reply
unfortunately i didnt save my apps and havent got backups of my data either
i cant reach the file via ADB either, when i run ADB (have KIES installed and worked before) - adb devices.
nothing shows up when the phone is stuck on "Samsung GS2" screen.
do you have any recommendations around keeping my data there?
If you find the exact same software your on now to download you could try flashing that in cwm without wipes I think that would work i think it replaces all system stuff so it will work, worth a try

what if i just want to flash build.prop via update.zip?
i tried so many methods but it always fails. is anyone able to create a update.zip for me?
i used a GUI script creator to try and update it via CWM recovery mode but it doesnt seem to like it.
If i turn off signature verification, it gives me a (status 0) error saying : E: Error in /sdcard/update.zip
and if i turn on verification toggle, it says E: signature verification failed
can anyone help?

Can you mount any sd on your pc, because you can the recovery mount trick to access to your data.
When you are in the recovery menu, go to mount and storage and click on "mount usb storage" and the internal and external sd will appear on your pc.
you are posting in galaxy s thread....repost in galaxy s2 thread
I don't think so but then again I don't own a s2 but you can select advanced restore: restore data then flash a compatible ROM, then restore the data if you worried but as I said before flashing the same ROM shouldn't remove user data

Hi,
i tried to flash the latest NostromoPop 2.2.2 ROM whith twrp 2.8.5.0, but unfortunately i get the following error message:
Can't install this package on top of incompatible data. Please try another package or run a factory reset

I already did a factory reset from the bootloader, but it doesn't change anything.
The mini 2 is unlocked, HBOOT 3.19.0.0000 and the following original ROM is running: Build 2.19.206.4, it is an o2 Germany branded one.

Thank you, DarkExistence . I don't think it is a bad download because I already tried it with the rom dated 25th of dec and 31st of dec. Also I checked the md5 sum after the transfer onto the smartphone. In which folder did you place the .zip File?
I am a little bit careful in wiping to much partitions, because if the installation fails after wiping the data Partition i'll have a problem.

There are many ways to bring your phone to life. But I can suggest this;
- Extract boot(if necessary) and recovery .imgs from a full rom(which one you want) via http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2433454
- Flash them by adb commands
- Put the update.app file in your sd card and start the update by 3 button way
Another suggestion is more simple; use Multi-Tool to flash the stock recovery and that's it.

Status phone rom I'm wrong. logo only lead to hang on is TWRP, connect PC and Fastboot. but when I rom stock (PLK-L01 C432B270) is successful but unable to reboot the operating system. H7 is due to the security, it's hard to be rescued. I also put it into the service center (not the local machine), they also confused with my H7. I need to find ways to revive it, no matter how well!
