New Nexus 7s Shipping with JDQ39B? - Nexus 7 General

Hey everyone,
If anyone has bought a new WiFi-only or 3G Nexus 7 in the last week or two, can you check and see if your device shipped with JDQ39B? If it did, please let me know. I need two pieces of information from your device. One is the value of ro.build.date.utc in /system/build.prop and the other is the bootloader version. You can get this by rebooting your N7 into bootloader mode. The version will show right on-screen. Also, if anyone has a 3G N7 with JDQ39B, please let me know the baseband version as well. You can find that in Settings - About Tablet.
Thanks!

I just ordered one and it'll arrive either today or tomorrow so I'll tell you what I know as soon as I get it.

Thank you! It's much appreciated. Out of curiosity, did you get a WiFi-only or a 3G model?

Mine is WiFi only.

Cool. Well definitely check in when you get it and let me know. Thanks!

Is that build date from your old stock JDQ39B ROM? Also are you sure the Bootloader is 4.10? Older devices now have 4.18, so if you got a new one with JDQ39B, it should have at least 4.18. Thanks!

The custom ROM definitely changes the build date. Thanks for the bootloader info, though. It appears new devices are shipping with JDQ39B while older devices are remaining on JDQ39.
If anyone can provide the UTC date from the stock JDQ39B build.prop file, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

WHAT THE!
I have an old device that was serviced in the ASUS repair in Ontario (man, I had to be patient when it shipped from Nova Scotia to Ontario (American? Don't know where Nova Scotia is? It's that island looking thing that's not an island at the bottom of Canada (don't know what Canada looks like? Jesus where did you go to school?))).
They gave me a new LCD which is what I asked for, and for some strange reason they gave me a new battery, writing "battery error" on my fix sheet. God knows why they did that, the battery was perfectly fine but who am I to complain.
I turn on my precious N7 when it gets here (did I mention I had to be patient when I waited for it to ship?). Bam, JDQ39B hits me right in the face.
WHO KNOWS IF I CAN USE WUFRESH'S TOOLKIT TO UNLOCK AND ROOT THIS THING. GOD DAMNIT NOW I'LL HAVE TO SPEND THE NEXT HOUR AND A HALF GOOGLING THIS EXTRA B TO MAKE SURE I DONT BLOW THE DAMNED THING UP.
(and knowing me, five minutes after my N7 arrived from the repair center, I'll of hard bricked it and will be packaging it up to ship off again).
You just wait and see!

No, you don't need root. Just open up your favorite file manager application, browse to /system and open up build.prop as a text file. Inside, you'll see a line that begins with ro.build.date.utc=<some number>. I need to know what <some number> is.
Thanks!

It'll be fine. That's the beauty of Nexus devices. Bootloaders never make it so you can't root or install custom ROMs. Nexus devices don't lock bootloaders down. Just use your toolkit as if it were JDQ39 and you'll be fine.

Thank you for your help, although the toolkit wasn't able to find my device, and I just hooked it up to the iMac and did an adb devices and don't see it either. Ehhhhhhh this is quite the mess.
edit: I'm an idiot, I was doing adb devices and not fastboot devices. I got it unlocked using the command line, looks like I'll have to do everything from it and not the toolkit. Bloody Windows. Didn't even need to install drivers for OS X.

Thanks for your help, I think it's a driver situation on Windows. Just going to look for a toolkit for OS X instead and if that fails I'll just do it all from adb and fastboot myself.

Doing it yourself is always better than using toolkits anyway. And it only takes an extra 5 minutes if that.

O2X noob needs help. :)

Just got myself an O2X. I know that it is not the best dual core phone, but this is all I could get in India for my budget. It's a great phone except for the lack of RAM.
My questions are :
1. Is the CM7.1 fully functional?
2. Does anyone face SODs(Sleep Of Death), i.e. sometimes when my phone is in sleep mode.. it sometimes does not wake up!! I have to take the battery out to switch it on!! But that happens only once in a while.. I'd appreciate any kind of help!!!
3. How much space do we have for storing apps and data? i.e. How much space does the /data have?
4. What are the best tweaks/ways to conserve battery?
Thank You..!

1. FM Radio is missing
2. Some do, some don't
3. 1.5GB on /data
4. Use the phone less
@Rusty thanks.. but how do I fix the SODs?? Will flashing CM7 help? ..or should I get my phone replaced??
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
Unknown, I don't seem to don't suffer with them.
But there is an effort going on with some kernel stuff to sort it for CM.
Does anyone know the cause? :/

Someone please suggest what I should do to get rid of SODs!! I am very disappointed I spent 24K Rupees for this phone which is defective!! :'(

Unlikely a new rom will help (I flashed FR19 but still had the same issue).
Best thing is take it back for an exchange. Some handsets suffer some don't.
Hope you get an handset that doesn't once exchanged as people without the BSOD (sadly I'm not one of them and mine is being 'repaired' at the moment) say it's a great phone and they're more than happy with it.
Have never had screen of death. Used the phone for about 20 minutes before going custom rom and kernel so I can't say if it's hardware related or not.

I just hope it is a software issue.
And.. when I go to get it replaced.. how am I supposed to reproduce it??!!!? It happens very randomly!!!
Can someone who suffers from the same issue throw light in this regard?! Please!
I am freaking out!! :'(

I seem to be one of the few who had a device like that, which healed. It used to spontaneously reboot, die while charging, all the usual stuff.
I can in no way promise this will fix it for you, but you should at least try to run an update via the LG Mobile Update tool (not an OTA update, not Smartflash.) If you're already updated, flash an older baseband, and run the (LG Mobile) update procedure again.
All I can say is that after I did that, the phone has been rock solid, running exactly the same firmware as before the update.
I repeat, this could very well be, and probably is, a coincidence, but as long as you have 30 minutes to spare, it cannot hurt.
Good luck.

Thank you so very much for showing me some hope!!!
I CAN SPARE A WHOLE DAY TO GET MY PHONE FIXED!!!
I will update to Gingerbread.. if the update is available.. or whatever new update is available..!!
I pray to God that my O2X gets healed!!
The update won't erase my data, right?
I just saw on the bill that goods once sold will not be taken back or replaced!! So.. If I were to get a replacement I'd have to use my warranty!!

Gingerbread isn't available yet, but that's beside the point, after you've done the update you can install any rom you like.
The update WILL erase your data, including the internal SD-card. Backup first.

Far from it, you're free to do whatever you like. If you want to see if there is a magic fix in the LG update tool, you'll update the official ROM using that first, and install your rom of choice later.

You should probably read the last 4-5 pages of the forum, that'll give you a good impression of how CM7.1 has been recieved.
Prerequisite is a rooted phone, which you can do with Superoneclick. There are many paths from there, but the easiest is to download ROM Manager, from there install ClockworkMod, download CM7.1 to your sdcard, boot into ClockworkMod and install CM7.1.
There are a ton of threads with information, how-tos and FAQs, search and you will find.
Good luck.
I'd recommending getting rid of bloatware first before trying other ROMs as it us the least intrusive way if I may describe it as such.
Install Android Assistant and find which apps are running in the background that you don't need at all. I found that must LG bloatware is useless and persistently running in the background. freeze things like Car Home, antivirus, LG email, sns and unwanted widgets.
Car Home used to be a major problem if I remember correct.
root your phone using super one click and install systemapk manager and use it toFreeze the unwanted apps and widgets.
I found that doing this improved battery life and stability.
If it doesn't work you can easily reverse by unfreezing and even unroot with super one click.
I'd recommend trying this to see if it makes your phone more usable.

Also.. they will give me a sealed pack as a replacement, right?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini SM-G730A downgrade to older android firmware? 2.2

i have a s3 mini phone that has a very new model (g730a) that looks like nobody else on the internet has. there are no threads on this entire forum about this model number, and i am trying to downgrade the stock firmware, 4.2.2, to a very old firmware, 2.2 (froyo), is there any way of doing this? (this phone was bought from an at&t store) how do people even downgrade? where do they get their downloads from?
if there is "no way" of me doing this easily by downloading something, how can i do it myself?
really need some help with this, thanks!

why would you want to downgrade?
i just think froyo looks cool, and i see it still functions with the play store and that. i've heard of cyanogen mod or whatever it's called yet don't know what it is nor how to use it. i am brand new to this android world. was told that this site had everything
Device was not here when froyo was so you will never be able to downgrade. It came with jb, so that's what you will have.

Try the "one-click-root" that someone posted in general. It might work. Then you can take a look on what's inside, and maybe have a recovery built.

You CAN install any android version that is older that you want, but it isn't created for the device. So somebody would need to develop drivers for it to work on the particular version of android.
Short answer: No you can't do it
Long answer: It can be done but a skilled person would need to develop drivers to make it work.
In this day and age creating drivers to downgrade from 4.1 to 2.2 it's not worth the time it takes.

This is a G900F firmware, I already have one of those (this download isn't complete yet, so not sure if it's the same one). From your PM's it looked like you had the SM-G900G model? Relooking now, even though you claimed G, your firmware about page says F. Silly, we could've been further than we are now yesterday, if not for that mistake

Ricky's PMs were titled "[S5 SM-900G ROOT]". I realise now that that meant SM-G900. However, there will be SM-G900x models where x is almost every letter available in the alfabet. As such, it looked to be two different models

Does this mean those letter varietys will be incompatible? I'm not sure which one I've actually ordered, but from a leaked chart F and G looks to be for Europe so one of those is probably what I will get ...

Impossible to say. Quite likely models A, B and C will be compatible with eachother, as well D and E, but then A, B and C won't be compatible with D and E. (example names, not real models). As is the case with the other S and Note models.
This is the dump of the S5 G900F variant...is correct?

[Q] Most stable and efficient ROM*?

Hi,
New in Motorola world (long time user of Samsung phablets), I'd like few advices about best rom. I have been long time user of Cyanogen but it's not yet officially avalaible so should I go for this unofficial build of CM12: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/daily-stock-cm12-builds-t2988749 or this one that looks very promising in term of speed and stability: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/rom-cleanrom-1-0-beta-lrx22-clean-t2991714
For root and unlock, this tool looks ok ?*http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/toolkit-wugs-nexus-root-toolkit-v1-9-8-t2947452
Thanks for advices,
Vincèn

The easiest way to root and unlock is ChainFire. Google CF root for nexus 6. Fast and easy. Took 5 minutes.

since you just left the Samsung world, ill let you know about nexus roms.. nexus roms always have complete source, no hacking needed. what that means is that they all are stable and efficient. unlike samsung, that doors not provide full source. oh, and cm is not as popular on the nexus as on other devices, just for the fact that anyone can create a stable rom, not just your basic cm.

easiest way to root and unlock is the right way, not a toolkit. its a nexus, google makes it easy to unlock and root.
1. fastboot oem unlock, will unlock your bootloader
2. then you flash twrp recovery
3. then you flash supersu in your new recovery
4. then reboot, with root.
5. takes about 3 most minutes, if youre slow.
that way you actually learn something instead of using a toolkit and not learning anything.

Succeede to install TWRP and install Frank ROM (did clean of all caches). Unhappy the ROM doesn't work on mine. At bootup it displas an error message about initial wizard that crashed and it loops into it Will try CM*then

ok, i gotto stop you quickly.. all US nexus 6 are exactly the same device, no matter where you bought it. theres no verizon section for it. it will run any rom or kernel listed here. and to root, just follow the instructions in the stickies..
1. unlock your bootloader
2. fastboot flash twrp recovery
3. flash supersu in your recovery
4. boot up with root
All of the US N6's are the exact same no matter what the carrier is. So all the methods for unlocking at rooting are the same. I am on Verizon as well, and coming from the Droid Turbo, this was most definitely welcome news. The easiest way to go about unlocking the bootloader and rooting would be to use the WugFresh Nexus Root Toolkit. There are many YouTube videos that can walk you through the process but I personally recommend the ones by Root Junky as those are the ones I used when I first got my Nexus and was unsure of the exact process. Welcome to the community!

i recommend rooting the first time properly, it doesnt take longer. but using a tiolkit, you wont learn a thing, so when the toolkit messes up(and they do), you wont think that your phone is bricked, because youre clueless about fixing issues. once you know how to do it properly, then toolkits are fine to use.

Lost me but I can concur. If don't know what you are doing the toolkit is fastest way to brick your device. Been there. Done that. If didn't have fastboot would be wearing the T-Shirt.

Thanks guys love the layout of the phone but hate the size. Will the 2015 Nexus 5 be closer to the size of the Galaxy S5? I'm thinking of taking the 6 back and waiting on the Nexus 5
