Hi all, basically I'm changing my HTC One for a black one and basically just want to back it all up to make a restore on the black one later.
backing up apps isnt important but images, contacts and messages would be vital.
Its rooted if that helps, running custom rom (Android Revolution HD)
Whats the best way??
Thanks
Apologies for the n00b question!!
If you are rooted then using titanium backup would be the best solution
You can always just use the stock HTC transfer tool on the setup of the new phone to get your stuff back over as well.

Helium
You can just do a nandroid backup, and copy everything in your SD. Then on your new unit, root that sucka and paste back everything you copied, then restore from your nandroid

Hi guys,
I am tired of waiting for the official ICS update and went ahead and flashed the 'We want ICS' rom and it is GREEEEAT. I made a backup but just want to know if I can get all the apps I had before if I restore the backup or will it take me back to GB. I am on Android 4 now so do I restore or no? I did it using ROM manager

Coming from GB to ICS, it's probably best to download your apps again or install apps only if you have a Titanium Backup.

Using Titanium Backup is not recommended...might cause problems in ROM and ud have to reflash. Install all apps again its the best way.

It's probably a NAND backup you did. This backup contains images of all the partitions of your old ROM. So if you restore, it will restore GB as it was when you did the backup. To restore only your apps you should have used an app like Titanium Backup.
Edit : If you really want to restore you apps you can still restore GB from your Backup, install Titanium Backup, make a backup of your apps and flash again We Want ICS in which you will then be able to restore your apps (Edit 2 : you should use compro01's method, it's faster)
2 options
1. redownload your apps - Easiest way is once you have the play store functioning on the device, just go to https://play.google.com/apps, log in, and wail on the install buttons.
2. if you don't want to do that (e.g. excessive drain on transfer cap and no wifi available) or can't for some reason (e.g. app was removed from the store, but you still want it, like the tricorder (CBS are assholes)), open up the backup folder (/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/[nameofbackup]. This is most easily accomplished on a computer rather than on the device) and open the data.[filesystem].tar file. All the apks for the installed apps are in the apps folder. system apps are in same folder in the system.[filesystem].tar file, but you're probably not interested in anything in there.
Just copy out the apks you're needing, and install away. You may need to turn on "install from unknown sources" under the development options.
Note that neither of these methods will preserve your settings from your apps nor any of their other data (saved games, passwords, etc.). if you have stuff you need for some reason, you'd need to go through the above mentioned 3rd option of backing up your current WWICS install, then restoring your previous ROM, backing up all your relevant apps with Ti or another app, restoring your backup of the WWICS ROM, and using Ti/whatever to restore the backed up apps, all whilst hoping that restoring apps from different bases doesn't break things too horribly.
I prefer titanium backup because my app data will also be backup'd

What's the method you should use for titanium? As I redownloaded titanium on my rom and it wouldn't find the backed up data I backed up about 10mins previous

Check to see what filters are in use, if any. If you set a filter to show only uninstalled apps you should see your backups.
Ahh.... I'll have a look next time I flash a new rom

You must be very carefull when using titanium backup and changing roms, since you are coming from GB to ICS thats a completly new and different version of OS and may have problems when restoring too many apps, I suggest that you restore backups one by one app, so if you get some Fc's you can see which app is to blame, and definitly do not restore any settings or system apps

I use Titanium Backup
I use My Backup and it is great. I have found no problems restoring all my apps between different roms.
And if you need to you can either restore the app or app and data

I know bud. I use Mybackup as well but I forgot to use it while upgrading and thought there would be some other way of doing it

You could use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDMsImNvbS5rb3VzaGlrZHV0dGEuYmFja3VwIl0.

I'm new as well, from what I understand (and my short experience) you should also make a Nandroid backup before you start messing around in case it all goes to **** at some point. It's basically a snapshot of everything on your phone at that current time.
Boot into recovery and create a backup in there with CWM or whatever you're using. Then I would also copy the backup file over to your computer so you have a safe copy.
To restore just use the recovery again and select restore.
You should only have to use this if something goes wrong though. Or you want to return to your phone's current state at some point.
Although you can restore just the apps and data with this method if you flash a new ROM with the advanced restore option and select restore data from the Nandroid backup you made, Titanium and Carbon are the better option for restoring user data and apps, IMHO.

100% do a backup - I was trying roms and could not get HTC TV to install for some reason - it's your ultimate fallback to your stock settings
i have just got my HTC one, it has nothing extra put on the phone and does not even have the sim card in the phone. i have read that unlocking the phone looses some of the preinstalled apps such as calculator and other stuff. i have also read that a full backup of the phone can be made using ADB then reinstalled after the unlocking / rooting process so none of the apps are lost. i have made a backup using ADB but the backup file is only 2.89MB, does this seem like the correct size for a backup for this phone. thanks in advance.....................sudeki300

thanks so much, i knew there would be someone on xda with a good workaround..................sudeki300
i have read in the thread that the thor movie cannot be played due to licence issue's, i would rather make by own backup fresh from my phone before starting the unlocking process. then it came to restoring there should not be a problem with any licence issues like watching the thor movie. all i 'm looking is for some to make a fresh backup of the htc one freash out of the box, so i can compare backups sizes before proceeding. 2.87MB just seems way too small for a backup of everything. please could someone help. is there any way to root without unlocking the boot loader, then i could a make a nandroid backup and restore this after unlocking the bootloader.........................sudeki300
I have a rooted HTC One with:
Android Revolution HD 20.2 by mike1986
Version 4.3
HTC Sense 5.0
Kernel: 3.4.10-geee1312
Build #: 3.09.401.1
I resolved my issue with not being able to backup. I found the legacy folder. I've since reflashed my ROM.
However, now my "restore" is stuck at 0%. It's been like this for 10 minutes. Whats going on?
NEW ISSUE: Now I can't restore. I've fixed my backup and reflashed my ROM. Now my apps won't restore back... Please help!
Same issues. Have no resolution from developer. Hate the app and it's support and don't use it anymore. Anytime I restored settings it soft bricked my phone. I use Helium now and certainly won't recommend TiBu. Glad I had 3 backups with 3 apps and put them all to the test.

Did you guys backupped also the system app?
If yes it's this the problem.
Titanium working fine here, never had an issue
Backed up everything in batch. Restored using ever possible combination of the app and data or just getting a new app and restoring data. Soft brick every time by trying to get back anything attempted. My 2 other apps restored perfectly every single time. Developer ignored me-certainly won't recommend.

It's normal if you're trying to restore a system app.
And the batch will backup all...
Is this the prob
It's advised to backup and restore only the data of the system app

Yes, did just the data on the restore as well as app+data - had the same results with restoring apps that weren't system related as well. Just a pain that I don't have to deal with, with other backup applications. TiBu has just not been great for me at all.
I have the speaker buzz issue. I'm getting ready to get a new One ordered in. I'm currently running the old ViperROM and have Titanium Pro. My laptop is Windows 7.
So, what do I need to do to be able to backup all my apps and data so that I can easily install them onto the new phone with the updated Android version on the new phone, without backing up and restoring old system files from my current phone? I'd hate to loose progress on my games.
I've never quite dove fully into Titanium to understand all its various functions.
From what I understand, the new Ones currently ship with 4.3 and mine is still on 4.1.2, so I dont want to screw anything up.
Thanks
Make a nandroid backup, copy it to your PC than copy it to the new phone. You can also use TB, but this way is faster

yeah, I'm gonna do a nandroid, titanium, and manually copy everything. That way, one way or another, I'll have what I need.
