So, I decided to purchase one of these recently:

And so far, it works out pretty nicely
I've only had it for about an hour, but here's a quick review of it. First off, it was a slight pain to find a place for me to actually mount it to. My table has some weird indentations along the entire outter edge which made the clamp not attach securely (it might of been fine, but I wouldn't trust it ).
Ended up mounting it to my chair.
Here's the final result:
And some random shots (ignore the mess in the background )
Thanks for your post. I will be interested in reading how it stands up over time, such as does the base clamp become loose or the various hinges sag from the tablet weight? Also how far can it stretch out before sagging?
In the past I have looked at the same general idea but I preferred the tablet holders that can be added to a mike boom as they seemed more secure and flexible to move when not in use.
Here are a number of alternate tablet holders:
This would be ideal but is only made for iPad: http://www.standzout.com/

Seeing how flat and glossy that back cover is, I'm wondering if an "industrial" suction cup mount (like RAM part#: RAP-B-224-2U) would hang on to the *back of* the Samsung Galaxy Tab?? (Search gpscity.com for an example image & video... i'm not allowed to embed links yet)
I know there's all kinds of side-grip & snap-in tray style mounts out there already that should obviously work but I can't help but be curious... that RAM suction cup is so friggin strong... it would provide an easy entry into all the mix and match RAM parts I've already collected for my Samsung Q1U tablet (bicycle handlebars mainly)... and it seems like it might even yield a cleaner look than the more traditional alternatives.
Anyone have the actual hardware on hand to try this and satisfy my curiosity?
I don't know what exact model you're talking about, but I LOVE the idea! And I am quite certain you could put a suction cup straight onto the back of the tab without any problems. A double sided suction cup would be a perfect solution for car mounting...

Used this one for my HTC HD2. The Tab needs two to be held strong, but you're right its back surface keeps good suction.
I am sure it would work. I bought this small mount with stickem on the back and it works like a champ. I would think that a suction cup would be even better.

Appears to be coming on Feb 11, 2011. This is probably the one I'll be getting.
Multiple pictures and details at the link. If you "add to cart" the price shows $28.47. Unknown if that will be the actual retail price or not.

This one? Its kinda universal but it looks like it would do.

Looks like its for the BB Playbook, Dell Streak and the Galaxay Tab.
Like a universal mount, given that the dimensions are in the same vicinity.

Looks very bulky, especially the back part. Samsung's original car mount is also on the large side, but considering it has built in charger, I suppose that's understandable.
I know RAM mounts are very high-quality, but I can't see something this big standing on my dashboard.
I think I'm going to make my own mount from available RAM parts. A double suction mount seems like a perfect solution and size footprint is very small - basically it's going to have a suction cup on both ends, one for the glass and other to be used straight on the tab, without any adapter. Since GT has a very smooth and large back surface I am sure it will stick to it without problems.
That might work on yours. On my AT&T tab, the back has a very small cross-hatch pattern, and isn't smooth like glass. I don't think that would work on mine.
So I wanted a stand but didn't want to spend money because I am broke right now. Had some scraps and some crafting tools laying around so I went to work. I measured it all out so that it doesn't stick out past the smallest dimensions of the Nook itself so it is pretty sleek. Added bonus, kind of happy accident is that all the buttons are accessible while in the stand and the speaker isn't being blocked so now I can use it as my primary alarm and it is plenty loud enough to wake me up. Before I had it face down with the speaker on the floor so I couldn't really hear it so I never used it as an alarm until now. The result was a nice looking, extremely light basically weightless and extremely sturdy Nook stand!!!
List of items:
1 Exacto knife and blade
1 piece of leftover foamcore or posterboard as some might call it
1 hot glue gun
1 leftover locktite
1 straightedge ruler
My final price = $0.00
This only ends up being free if you have these things laying around or you can get them free somewhere. otherwise if you have to buy any of this stuff you might as well buy a stand off ebay or something.

Nice! I just use the stand on the bottom of the box the nook came with.
Awesome work! Congratulations on your DIY stand!
Please post the measurements that you used
I have an iPad and a nexus s... The stylus works with both and wanted to share with you guys. I do recommend this stylus for drawing and note taking. I'm sure this will work with honeycomb tablets.
This stylus is called the E. Stylo stylus for capacitive screens.
e.stylo features:
- lightweight
- both tips work at different angles
- no extra pressure is needed for it to work
- works with gloves on
- smoothly glides over the screen
The final price of e.stylo will be $15.95 plus $4.99 US shipping and $7.99 for international shipping.
Purchased from http://www.Plai.tv/ if any artist/note takers are interested.
I also made a video of it....(videos in my signature) Check it out if u want to see how it responds on the nexus and iPad.
You can scroll the pictures to the right... sorry about the huge pics.

LOL nice
it looks like a small chopstick or a very thick toothpick
which BTW works the same way, in fact any soft edge pointy stick will do just the same
personally i prefer to use my finger nails to write, it's 100% natural in writing and you carry it with you all the time
It's very nice.... Just like a chopstick (edgy), as long as a pencil, and lightweight but not too light.... those pics suck.
I cant wait for the samsung tab, this would be a great stylus for it.
Once Sammy is out, I'm throwing the iPad in the trash. (for sale)
Over the years, I've used several phone mounts (Archos and numerous other generic mounts) in my car (1993 Miata) that either failed miserably or restrict my car's A/C's functions...
That is until I recently purchased and installed an Insignia Vehicle Mount (NS-MVMU5). $19.99 from BestBuy

For a semi-permanent installation, this mount is very adjustable.
I can finally reach the other half of my A/C controls!
How it's mounted in my car:
2 Releasable Cable Ties that is zipped on to the 360' swivel head to one of the A/C vents.
Pros:
Very versatile and allows you to mount it in any car.
Very sturdy design.
Very easy to install and is self explanatory.
Easy to remove.
Cons:
$19.99 is kinda expensive considering the extras you get that you might never use.
The ball swivel feature isn't very sturdy (Especially on very bumpy roads).
The rubber grips that hold the phone are not well designed. (You'll have a hard time having your phone sit flush with the mount.)
The vent stop clips are very flimsy and will not hold the mount well on rough roads (thus the reason I use Cable Ties).
In conclusion. This phone mount is amazing! It fits all and any case (very long or very thick). I've been using this for several days, driving on California's worst roads and it holds up perfectly. Its adjusted so I rarely have any sun-glare and where its easily in my line of sight.
For any car owner, I highly recommend this car mount.
