If you use MX player from the play store you can zoom to get rid of black bars
If your video playback software doesn't support the action bar you'll get the dots. Native res is 1080p.

I hope it has a video player like apple's. After click a key, the picture will be stretched at top and bottom. The left and right side will be cut a little. Note screen is 1280*800, but the 720p is 1280*720. if have this, it will be full screen.
Have you tried MX Video player yet?

This one is closer, but doesn't have a choice to keep the ratio, turn to full screen, cut left/right. It Has a long face selection, who want this?
Are the buttons for back, home and apps hideable? They are part of the 1080p screen, so they take up real estate...
I was wondering if I could hide them when playing a movie in 1080p. That would be a lot nicer and give 1:1 pixel mapping.

According to the early reviews on YouTube, there's no option to hide the notch in MIUI, so I doubt you'd be able to in YouTube, I could be wrong though
can we remap assistant button on Chinese version to Google assistant?
wondering does most ppl prefer to crop youtube or any video just for fullscreen experience?
own 18.5:9 phone but most youtube video still 16:9 or new 18:9 (rare).
mi9 already have 19.5:9 screen, i will never crop to make top and bottom video gone just for full screen experience
In the GSM Arena review they play a game, and at either side I don't see a notch. It's really odd, because it doesn't look like there is, say, a black border around the notch either.
I will be interested to see for myself when my phone arrives

You rock. Can't believe I missed that. Thanks....
I really don't like sending tall 19:9 aspect ratio photos to my friend that has 16:9 phone. I already disabled the notch and enabled the navigation bar so that reduced the screen a bit, so that's now maybe a 18:9, but my friend still sees black bars on to the sides of her phone. Any more tricks like this, any way to open an app with a different resolution? I don't have root and I heard it's a complicated process to get it, so I would prefer not to do that.

Try changing your resolution to 1080p (not 1080pi) with adb

Yeah, maybe try using Tasker? I'm not sure if it allows you to use commands like that if it's not rooted. If it does, you could just run that command when the app's open and the revert it once you close
hey OP, how did you enable the navigation bar to stay in snapchat?? i'm looking for a way to do this?
