New with the LT30p, where to start? - Sony Xperia T, TL, TX, V

Hi everybody, If everything goes as planned, the next Tuesday my brand new, unlocked LT30P should arrive at my home. Where do I start with the mods?
I come from the Arc/Neo/Pro, but I see some things that are very different :silly:
First, I know I should unlock the bootloader with the official method, but how do I flash a new kernel? I downloaded DooM Lord's kernel but it comes as a .zip. On the Arc or Pro the kernels come as .img that I flash via flashtool but how it's done on the T?
Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Read the all in one thread, you need to unlock your bootloader, instal cwm and flash the zip file.
Sent from my LT30p, 4.1.2 stock, DooMKernel v7,root access, unlocked bootloader.

indeed, i got mine for about a week or so now..
and before i got it i spend an entire week reading this forum, the all in one topic is indeed very helpful and if you spent anough time doing some reading almost all your questions will already be answered.
the guys here really took the time to make topics so even noobs no what to do with their phone.

am i able to install any rom with flash tool? that guide is v good btw i was following it but not to actually install a rom as i cant see root yet...
oh...
first you need to do some research before you go playing, always keep a stock FTF to hand just in case anything goes wrong
ROOT
Install CWM
Stock rom which allows you to do a bit more modding
A must for the XZ: Pure sound
CWM Will allow you to install Rom's and mods. but at the moment you will have to say on Andriod 4.1.2 becuase you will have a locked bootloader and if you unlock that (You have to enter a certain code in a program ) you really need to know what you are doing becuase or at least something
P.S. Here to help but you do need to read, not just jump in at the deep end and hope for the best
DIDNT WANT TO POST AGAIN: Is your bootloader locked of unlocked (Have you entered something like fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY)

[Q] Confusion on TA Partition backup with the latest stock firmware

Hello!
I have searched various places about rooting my SP. I am about to root my SP, it was newly bought (2 months old) so it would be better if the TA Partition is backed up. After inspecting several articles and stuffs, I was advised to back up my TA Partition before attempting to root my phone.
As of 12.1.A.0.266 update, rooting requires unlocking the bootloader. Which doesn't follow the rule to back up the TA Partition. As one may know, a phone must be rooted in order to back up the TA partition but at the same time, such bootloader must not be unlocked
I've searched everywhere I can, however I can't find any solution. Forgive me if there are any articles or thread created regarding the same topic.
Any immediate help would be extremely appreciated.
The phone is running latest stock firmware and had no customisations so far.

Use a pre-rooted rom (PureXSP, eXistenZ)...Not sure if it will work!Don't try unless a person with higher android knowledge skills answers!
How about you just FTF flash an older firmware?

flashing ftf won't require unlocked bootloader isn't it? I do thought of downgrading then root and then backup such TA partition.
No it wont.
For the Sony features like Bravia Engine etc you need the TA partition. Flashtool will (or should) work without the TA partition. It will only tell you that your bootloader is unlocked
I was in the exactly the same position as you few days ago when I decided to customize my Xperia SP
Here is what I have done...
I was on the latest .266 OTA updated FW and then ... ...
I downloaded and flashed with Flashtool "Xperia SP (C5303)_12.0.A.2.254_Generic_DE.with_loader.sin.ftf"
Then flash XperiaSP_C530X_12.0.A.1.257_KernelOnly.ftf
Now you can use DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v18_perf-event-exploit.zip
and then flash back XperiaSP_C530X_12.0.A.2.254_KernelOnly.ftf for your current FW
Now that you have rooted your phone you can use Backup-TA-9.10 tool to backup your TA partition and save your precious DRM keys
And when you have your TA partition backup safely archived somewhere
you can go to Sony site to request code for unlocking bootloader.
When your bootloader is unlocked use FASTBOOT to flash any kernel that have custom recovery
(like Nayak03 or DoomLord's V05 or DoomLord's advanced STD .266)
and then when you have custom recovery you can install pretty much everything you find around here.
If you need more details or want me to put links to threads and files I've looked and download just say... :cyclops:

It is not about Flashing, it is warranty.. My phone is 2 months old and there are 8 more months for valid warranty.

Wohoo thanks! Yes, I do thought of the same way, however, I am looking forward to use the stock sony .266 FW after rooting the older 254. Any tutorial you can give here or any links I can get on how to actually "install" the .266 firmware?
Yes I do would like some links on downloading those stuff except Flashtool, I did have it already. If you don't mind posting them..
By the way, since I see that .266 FWs have different versions for each region on this world respectively, may I know how to get one that is international or south-east asia specific?
some links that might help you.. (links for downloading stuff in there...)

You just need to go step by step and in right order...
1 downgrade FW to 12.0.A.2.254 (or 245) DOWNLOAD HERE
2 change to rootable kernel 12.0.A.1.257 DOWNLOAD HERE
3 use DoomLords perf_exploit rooting script DOWNLOAD HERE
4 flash back kernel only 12.0.A.2.254 DOWNLOAD HERE
5 start your phone and start TABackup HERE
6 go to Sony site for an unlock code as explained HERE
for which you use Fastboot HERE
7 again with fastboot flash kernel with custom recovery like THIS one DoomKernel AdvStd .266
8 reboot to recovery while presing VOL+ key when lightshow starts and install CustomROM of your choice which you downloaded previously and put it on your microSD card.
OR if you want stock rooted FW
in step 7 first flash official .266 FW then fastboot DoomLords .266 AdvStd kernel
boot to recovery and from it root your system
:silly:
Thank you @mrhnet and @freedom74 !
You guys really solved my questions in a quick manner of time!
I just registered xda just to ask this question and I received a really good help.
I will read both posts and see what I can come up with my SP. I can't wait to root it! Again thank you, guys!
I hope nothing bad happens, this is my only phone and it costs so much
:victory: thanks again!

Hey I saw a post saying that it ripped firmwares from the SUS. Do you know how to do this, so that I can have the version right for my country?

[Q] Can you flash a rom on xperia z if it was made for the z1, z ultra for example

I want to flash a rom from the z1 onto the z but I am not sure what would happen if I was to do such a thing. Has this been done before, if so what has been the past consequences? If you have done this and it has worked please let me know, this is only a question to be informed and want to see what you say. Also I am just getting impatient and I don't want to root my phone just for kitkat. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

People probably have done this before, and the consequence is a non-working phone Not only is the SoC different, but pretty much everything is a generation newer on the Z1 than the Z, so pretty much nothing will work, and might even permanently ensure nothing works on your phone. Good things come to those who wait, or unlock their bootloaders
Okay on a related note is there a 4.4 kitkat rom for xz that does not require root and unlocked bootloader? or one that I can flash with unlocked bootloader that does not need root. The less work I have to do to flash the rom the better.
No. You can only flash stock based roms on a locked bootloader and even then, you need root in order to install a recovery to flash them.
There is not a stock based 4.4 rom in any case.
As for roms for unlocked bootloader, there are a few in the development section. You will not need root to flash them, but will have to use fastboot to unlock your bootloader and flash the custom kernel from the rom.

[Q] Generic vs Branded rom

Hi guys this is my first post here so be gentle! I'm trying to get cyanogen mod on my Z1.
I have followed the guides on this forum, my appreciation to all involved here great job!
I downgraded to 4.2.2 from 4.3. I then rooted my the phone. I then unlocked the bootloader.
All went ok. I then downloaded C6903_14.2.A.0.290_1276-0875_Generic UK.ftf and flashed it. The phone then wouldn't turn back on.
So I downloaded C6903 14.1.G.1.534 EE UK 1276-2219_R9A (I'm on EE) and flashed that and I got the phone working again.
I then flashed DoomKernal to get CWM. DoomKernal went fine.
Somewhere along the line I think I got confused and thought DoomKernal would give me CWM and I flashed C6903_14.2.A.0.290_1276-0875_Generic UK.ftf again to upgrade back to 4.3.
Same problem...Phone wouldn't turn on so I repeated the EE branded 4.2.2 flash.
Now DoomKernal seems to be taken off. So my questions are as followed:
Do i need DoomKernal to get CWM?
Do i need to be on 4.4 before I install Cyanogen mod or can I do it straight from 4.2.2 with DoomKernal?
If I'm being a total noob I apologize!
Thanks.

Accidently gave you a thank lol
I actually don't know about branded phone, but I can tell you that your step has gone wrong. You will always lose root
if you flash a sock ftf file.
So you are saying you unlocked bootloader on the 534 rom? Your camera is probably dead now, check it if you can boot.
Unlocking bootloader before getting on 4.3 or 4.4 will result in disabling the camera. You did it now anyway, I can't help you. Maybe flash 4.4 now and see if your camera works again.
Flashing cyanogen is not about root but unlock bootloader, people would recommend you to root first becoz you will be able to do TA back up with root
(TA backup is a way to backup drm key, so you can restore it in the future and restore locked bootloader exclusive feature like X reality and better quality camera. Seems you don't know what I'm talking about and already unlocked the bootloader before you even ever heard about TA. Sorry can't help you to save this part, you may continue anyway)
So on 4.4, you may have to unlock the bootloader again since the bootloader itself maybe relocked itself when you flash a sock ftf file. ( doesn't mean you restored DRM key is back)
So maybe unlock it again and start to flash cm.
Personally I wouldnt recommend a newbie in Android to unlock bl so fast since it's too easy to mess up serious things up and it's not so easy for turning back. Well you started messing them up anyway, continue then
Thanks for the reply.
I did do a TA back up before I unlocked the bootloader....If i restore from this will it get the camera working?
I have tried to flash Cyanogen mod but it fails error 7. It thinks my Z1 is a Togari (Z ultra) which it isnt cant find anything on this!
Ok so, i'll try and get on 4.4...
I have a UK Z1 C6903.
Can I flash to C6903 14.3.A.0.681 Global 1277-2880_R5C (this is 4.4 right?)
OR does it have to be a UK one I cant seem to find a uk 4.4?
So after a bit of stress and the phone getting stuck in bootloop I have installed 4.4.2 using .681 commercial.
I hope it will be smooth sailing now to install cyanogen mod
Oh and the camera works again!

[Q] flashing roms & towelroot & lock bootloader

Hi all.
I was a big xda user / developer around the times of x8 / x10.
Things have changed alot
I've now got Xperia sp and is rooted via towelroot and Installed the recoveries. Bootloader is still locked and I am on stock everything
I NEED help. Can I flash a custom rom. Really want to but not.sure.if this will brick my phone. So here I am asking.for help
Thanks in advance and.if.you help I'll be clicking your thanks button.
Thanks again
Yes you can install custom roms, head over the roms zone and find the ones that in their names says "LB" which means Locked bootloader, the ones that say "UBL" are for unlocked bootloader and if the roms says both it means they work on both locked and unlocked bootloader

Hey thanks mate, I was wondering what lb stood for. Not be too long until I am contributing to builds here. I use to help build kernel and bug fixes on xda back in 2010
I love the android Dev section just don't want to brick my.device
Thanks again
Where is thanks button gone?
Also can I flash rom just like I use to
Download on my phone put in sd card boot to recovery then.flash
Going.to go for it soon will keep you informed what roms I try etc
Found the thanks button.
Need more help before I will flash a rom if you can pal?
I have build number end In.. . 205
Does a custom rom I want have to have same build number as my stock rom
Can I install this rom onto my phone.

I see now I must flash. 254. And.root via doomlord
That guy needs a medal, he's been awesome in this.scene from the beginning

Please do me a favour and have a look at that
Can I install it I have root via towelroot and have recoveries installed and.the same build number 12.1.a.1.205?
Yes you can, that rom is for both LB and UBL, and thanks alot mate! i've been browsing xda for a long time now but never had a chance or didn't want to make an account, but oh well, anyway's.. i think there might be better roms for you to try, that one seems like it won't get any more updates..
Also, there's cm, paranoid, pac-man for Locked bootloader, you can take a look on them too
Just make a backup of your current rom in case you want to go back
And sorry for the late reply, wasn't at home!
What about the build number do I have to find one same as my.stock build number.
Nah, anyways, there's a FTF thread that has stock firmwares to download in case you want to flash stock firmware via FlashTools
