Hi!
I am using HTC Touch Diamond for last 6 months now. I have found that the sound quality without headphones is very poor. is it a problem or fact with all the devices. sound quality with headphones is superb.
well the speaker inside phones are tiny
one can't expect them to give anything but a triple-ridden sound torture
OK I've just picked up an Incredible S to replace the iphone 4 that I was bored with (plus I gained some cash in the bargain), and am generally happy, but I do find that the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired, it seems to lack punch and dynamics, and sounds a little flat, which means you want to turn it up, but of course, even at the loudest setting, its only moderately loud, especially with outside noise competing for attention.
Compared with the iphone, it is a long behind in sound quality and loudness, and this is when using some Denon IEMs, and is probably my only source of real disappointment with this handset. It kind of reminds me of the somewhat subpar results I heard from my old Nexus One and Desire, which seems to suggest little has changed in that time,
So, is there any way of making this thing go any louder? If it could, then it won't be a deal breaker - I really didn't expect it to be any better than the iphone in that respect anyway.

I agree, but try using SRS-on, it improves the sound quality alot. I'm using a pair of Westone UM3x and there are stark differences with SRS on and off.

Nice idea... but I don't think I can as having to use PowerAmp as the native player doesn't do gapless MP3s...
Yes the srs improves the quality ... But sadly the earphones that come with the devices arent very loud

I dont use the included ones (phone was from ebay so didnt get them), I use Denon in-ear headphones, and they aren't very loud either. They were very loud out of the iphone.

I have to agree that SRS adds a lot to the audio quality. I use Westone UM2 with PowerAMP.

so can you use SRS along with power amp or not ?
btw hows the bass levels ?
Is the LG O4X audio quality & volume through headphones really that bad? I've read GSMarena's review as they've now posted the audio part of the review. They said it possibly one of the worst devices they've tested
This will be a deal breaker for me. :-( what do you guys think?
Any previous GSII ownes in here that can provide input on personal opinions between the quality of the two?

Audio quality seems fine to me. GSMArena suspected they had a faulty unit, and said they would try another but I have yet to see an update to the review to reflect this.
I did see that but thought what is the chance of them receiving a faulty unit. Im currently using a Galaxy S II, and the audio quality via music player suits me. I reappy want the 4X as its a sexy beast, just wouldn't be able to cope with crap music quality.

The sound quality is pretty good on the 4x. I upgraded after breaking my milestone and I was also iffy on buying the 4x because of the gsm review... when I tested it out, it sorta felt like my entire phone became a speaker but it instantly became muffled when I covered the grill. Black magic is at work here lol
Im on about through the headphones lol

Oudio output is fine for me too, though not as good as the One X, a little louder would not be a bad thing, but overall as good as other smartphones in the segment.
It is, once again, fine. Satisfactory. I don't like in-ear headsets so I just use the ones that came with my milestone 2 years ago >_> I did try the headphones that were in the box though, they unlock some eq presets along with an option to manually tweak the levels. But plugging in any headphones will unlock that.
...as good as the other six smartphones I use, honestly. I always check music quality through my $500 akg closed headphones with quite a range of high quality files and the 4x sounds really fine, absolutely no problem here.
Just bought 4X to replace my 3.5" iPhone 4S, everything is fine except the sound quality which I must say is terrible compared with iPhone especially when using the built in speaker Maybe it's because the speaker is at the back of the phone

What if you set the O4X on its front so that the speaker grill is facing upwards? Will it be not as terrible? Is it really that bad compared to iPhone 4S?

Only the sound is louder, quality won't improve no matter where you face the speaker. Apart from Moto's Raxx, iphone's sound quality is excelent (from my own experiece).
I downloaded Poweramp as recmmended by local forum here to my 4X and the sound quality improves a little bit.

hi guys, what about the call quality? is it loud n clear on speakers?
It's okay. I went through a few phone calls and I didn't experience any problems and have no complaints.
Although... has anyone else noticed that the voice for navigation is kinda quiet? I turned it up to max and drove a few suburbs over but I felt like it was a bit too gentle for a car environment.
Music over bluetooth, Motorola Motorokr s305 stereo headphone & headset works good. But dolby mobile setting stutters (to bad, cause I liked the sound). I now use the headphone amplifier setting. Also good, but not as loud as Dolby mobile.

Did anybody try the headphone out with high-end multidriver iems (Like Shure SE535, Phonak PF232 or Westone UM3x...)?
I'm an iPhone 4S user and the headphone out is almost perfect when listen thru my UM3x. Hence i was wondering if the 4X would be close in terms of noise floor, resolution and frequency response.
Thanks in advance

If the TF10 sounds good and you have your treble then output impedance of the LG must be quite low which is a great thing.
Could you fill me in about the noise floor (Noise that you can hear when you pause the music till the amp section shuts off).
Thanks a lot
Audio quality problem

Hey XDA, I have reading through all the posts and cant seem to find a solid answer on this. Im looking for an in-ear earphones that provide amazing bass, without forgetting the sound quality. I like the original earphones that come with the samsung note 2 , they are pretty good and with some mods the bass that gets pushed out of them are actually pretty impressive. Problem is they arent durable at all, one of the earbuds always dies and only one works after a month or so. So as a wrap up I need :
*Amazing Bass as well as sound quality
*Durable
*Less then $140
Thanks !

i dont know whether u believe it r not.but these are the best earphones par better than samsung original..im using them from almost 8 months.getting better and beter.price is much lower than highrated dumb headphones

I would suggest posting this question in Accessories Section of XDA in Jeremy's Headphone/Earphone guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131021
You can also look through my headphone reviews: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192333, though my focus is on balanced audiophile sound rather than basshead sound.
The problem with exaggerated bass is that it overpowers mids and treble, and muddies the song. Typically you want to look for something that has V-shaped sound (boost in mid-bass and treble and recessed mids). If you look in my review list, you will get that from Meelec M-Duo and Sennheiser CX895 (very high quality for bass with right set of eartips). But one that I would also recommend, so don't have it myself is Shure SE-215 - it goes for about $99 (either on Amazon or Saltwater) and has removable cables to extend longevity of headphones. My personal fav which I used everyday is Westone W40 but it's $500 quad-driver with tamed bass, not a basshead. There are also a few budget options I'm trying to get review samples of, Xiaomi Pistons 2 (about $30) and Astrotec AX35 (dual driver with dynamic driver for bass and armature driver for mids/treble).
I'd recommend the Klipsh Image x10's. You can get em off amazon for $136.98 right now. Very crisp with surprisingly good bass. It'll be better than most other things out there.
If you can go another hundred bucks, you can get a pair of Sennheiser IE80s from Amazon.De (no import tax, ships to the US in about a week). They are, by far, the BEST bass you can get in an IEM with one of the largest soundstages of any pair of cans. They're worth the upgrade if you use IEMs a lot.
EDIT: Just stay away from Beats by Dre. Seriously. They're branded crap made by Monster. They have bass because they overload the lows so much it distorts everything else and the drivers arent quality so overtime the bass will get muddled and sound like crap. The X10s or a pair of Shures will sound exponentially better and are made better by people who know how to make and design headphones. You can get a beats plugin or flash a beats mod to get everything that would make any headphone sound just as crappy as a pair of $150 dres.

x10 has a quality bass, not the "basshead" quantity he is looking for Klipsch is definitely a great choice, but they are more in an audiophile category rather than "fun" category, and also their quality went down (just like UE and others).
Regarding Beats, yes, stay away from them. I wouldn't blame Monster as much since they were under a contract to manufacture these headphones rather than design them. If anybody to blame it's Dr Dre Once their contract expired in 2012 and Beats went on to manufacture their own stuff, Monster is actually pumping some quality products. I just posted review of their DNA Pro over-ear headphones (in my sig link of reviews), and the sound was top notch. I'm waiting now to receive Monster iSport Victory to check out how their new in-ears sound.
Skull Candy FJM. fits the bill, less than 24 dollars. Equalize with Viper4Android, done deal.
Monoprice 8320 "enhanced bass" or ones in the same family. It's less than $10 and they often score higher than much more expensive earphones in reviews.
Of course, with a budget of $140, you can get something better, but if the Monoprice suit you fine, well, you saved $130.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone , I ended up getting the Meelec M-Duo and these are some solid earphones, modded some of the audio on the note 2 and its gives great bass that shakes my ears and I can still hear the song clearly, solid purchase! Thanks vectron for the tip !

Meelec makes solid products, they got top support, and quite a reputation even from audiophiles on head-fi. For $66 M-Duo is a great value.
I would recommend Audio Technica CKS77 great bass and clarity.

I´m not an audiophile and I´ve been using the bundled earphones since day one.
I think that the Note2 sound quality with these earphones is really good (the rom I use also has a lot of sound tweaks).
Do you think that the sound quality will notoriously improve using other (better) in-ear headphones? (they must be in-ear).

Btw, you guys have to check out these $25 in-ear headphones, I just reviewed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2671888 - you definitely get a pumping bass, decent clear sound, and full Android control including volume!!! thanks for this link, I hv red through it and saw their testimonies. I believe I hv found a very good earpiece which I have been looking for.
It's peoples personal preferences on how the headphones sounds, i'm using 3 headphones, sony xba 3, ex600 and ex800st, all considered as good headphones, the xba 3 being a headphone on the moves with reasonable quality in both sound and built.
Any word on great in ear earphones that also include a mic + working android controls?

The embargo is gone, but still no good comparisons..
I really enjoy audio from the boomsound speakers on my M8 and because of that I really hope the speakers on the N6 are good/excellent.. Maybe a person with both phones can help..
The main reason I'm very close to buying the N6 is because of the extremely good development..
All answers are really appreciated! ?
I think the Android Central review touches on this. Phil says it isn't as good as boomsound but better than the typical phone speakers. Here's the small section of the review that addresses the speakers.
"The Nexus 6 does, however, have front-facing stereo speakers, a feature Motorola added earlier this year in its mid-range Moto G. And they're actually quite good. Not quite as deep or responsive as the HTC One M8, but they're darn close. And if you've never experienced proper front-facing speakers on a smartphone before, they'll drastically change the way you use your device."
I've never used a M8 so I can't really comment on it's speakers, but I know they're considered the best. I can say that I started watching a movie on my N6 last night and it was the first time I haven't reached for the headphones while watching a movie on a phone. The speakers are clear and LOUD. I've had roughly 10 different smartphones over the years and nothing even comes close to the sound on the N6.

I don't own an M8 so I also can't do a perfect comparison. However, I must say I am blown away with these speakers. It's the first thing I show off to anyone when they ask about the phone. I have listened to many music videos on full volume without issues. Also enjoyed Transformers the entire way through...something I would have never done with my Nexus 5 or wife's iphone 6+

i had the M8 (and now have the N6) and, in my opinion, M8 boomsound produces higher-quality sound (clearer). not only for music, but for the basic tones that i use for email, text messages, etc. the same tones on the N6 sound distorted and tinny; ended up switching to other tones that sounded better on the N6. conversely, YouTube and WatchESPN videos (e.g., college football games) sounded good with little to no distortion. (that was surprising to me.) i also believe that in-call quality (loudness and clarity) is better on the M8. to my ears, N6 in-call sound is noticeably lower compared to the M8. (this of course is a subjective opinion ). wish i knew how to adjust sound output/values in the mixer_path.xml file. i also use V4A, but only when listening to music with in-ear headphones. definitely makes music i listen to sound better at lower volumes. hope this feedback is helpful to the OP (and others).

All feedback is is extremely useful! Your feedback is less positive, but my decision is made.. I need the development that comes with a nexus and it's still dual speakers ☺
I think the speakers are very good, but not quite as good as the HTC M8. The last 2 steps at the top of the volume slider produce a weird piercing noise that hurts my ears. I'm thinking it might be an issue in the software or driver. Other than that, I'm extremely happy with the speakers.

I had a M8 a few months ago, and agree 100% with what you said. Boomsound is much better than the N6's speakers. I played around with Viper on my M8, but thought it sounded better stock through the speakers on that phone. I'm trying to experiment with Viper on the N6 now in hopes that I can get it to a Boomsound quality level.
Viper didn't really help much. Speakers sound a little better, but it still doesn't come close to the boomsound on the M8.
I have tested against the nexus 9 which had boomsound, and I find the nexus 6 speakers to be louder and overall more enjoyable. Thev nexus 9 speakers with boom sound are a disappointment and don't deliver imo, I was surprised by the speakers on the Nexus 6.
With that being said I have vbarely used my headphones with the Nexus 6 and that is one of the first things i show off along side the screen.
