I just bought an unlocked HTC One direct from HTC. I was planning to use it with the T-Mobile $30 plan, but I've since read that the unit that ships from HTC directly only has AT&T radios. Is this true?
If I want to use the device on the T-Mobile plan, should I cancel this order?
If I root the device (as I've done with my Galaxy Nexus) can I download and install the T-Mobile radios manually?

Hi I'm considering purchasing the Nexus One and selling my HTC HD2 T-Mo edition for one. I would like to know, can I unlock a T-Mobile version to work with AT&T 3G?
I'm hoping to be able to use 3G on both carriers, is this possible?
No, not possible.

The Nexus One is unlocked by default but because of hardware limits you can't use 3g on AT&T with a t-mo version and viseversa.
Cliffnotes - NO
search is your friend. and this is also as obvious as balls
Hi all
I have a Telstra (AU) SIM locked HTC one and they want $100 unlock it
After paying $700 for the phone I'm a little short of cash so am wondering if there is a free SIM unlock option?
Hi Ipguy,
Where did you purchase the phone from?
I work for Telstra, and can confirm that handsets we sell outright (excluding iPhones ) aren't locked. They certainly have Telstra 'bloatware', have the APN settings for WAP and MMS, but will take any providers SIM straight out the box.
The only handsets that are locked are iPhones and handsets packaged with a pre-paid SIM..
Can you tell me who advised it would be $100 to unlock an unlocked handset?

Hi mercury670
I purchased the phone from jbhifi outright two weeks ago, I called Telstra's customer support number the other day and was advised that it would cost $100 upto 12 months from purchase, and $25 upto 2yrs from purchase.
I didn't get the persons name unfortunately

Yes, please
Ah, ok.
Those figures are definitely for prepaid phones only, not outright purchases.
Just put a SIM in and you'll be fine

Well that's the thing, the phone came with a Telstra SIM in the box, and I was given a $60 credit on the phone if I signed up to Telstra, which I did to get the discount and then I cancelled the account.
So the salesman didn't do me any favours from what I understand
Just sounds like an in-house promo thru JB's. Honestly tho, just put another providers SIM in there. I could bet $ it'll work fine without restriction. Just be sure to remove the Telstra APN's and replace them with your own providers' for WAP and MMS.

I want to buy HTC one(unlocked) from their website.
It's an unlocked phone, my question is what is the difference between AT&T HTC one and Unlocked HTC one. ? Will that be recognized as an AT&T phone.
I am using International Galaxy s3 i9300 and AT&T doesn't recognize it. I have $15 unlimited non-smartphone data plan with it. Can i do the same thing with unlocked HTC one.
Please advice guys i am very desperate to buy this. Thanks. And BTW apart from trade-in coupons do you have any coupons that i can apply ?

Lets see the most noticeable differences are an unlocked bootloader and no AT&T bloatware/icons. Even my at&t one doesn't show up as a one on my account haha. It's just the generic clamshell pic.
As for the medianet working here is the best place to ask about it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1446373. This thread covers all things smartphone on medianet!

Just to clarify, what do you mean by you "unlocked" it. How did you do this? I'm pretty sure the only way to unlock our Ones is by going through sprint. Also if you do use it on ATT you won't get LTE because they have different LTE bands than sprint.

i unlocked it through a sprint all in one kit, maybe this was just for rooting it, but anyway I was justtrying to figure out if there was a wat to get my htc one on att, I'm not worried about the lte.

Ok, if you used the All In One toolkit then yes you are just rooted. To get your phone unlocked you will have to directly contact sprint!
Note also that in the US, depending on the location, AT&T operates on some combination of two 3G bands and two 4G bands. Of these four hi-speed data bands, the Sprint HTC One variant only supports one band. Therefore, even if you get the phone unlocked and working on AT&T, its data performance may not be all that great.
Hi, so I recently bought a used HTC Windows Phone 8X, but it is only for ATT, and I don't want to pay the $20 unlocking fee, so is there a software, or something I can use to unlock it, or do I have to pay for the code?
Thanks.
TO be honest, I haven't really seen any material on the HTC 8X, whether its a utility to extract roms or a source where they can be obtained. Hopefully someone can be a little more help than me just saying no.
Bump
You'll either need to call AT&T or go online and have get a carrier unlock code. The only roms available for the 8X are european.

As someone who has unlocked a few iPhones from AT&T via their chat service (I've never been an AT&T Customer), I can say it's worth a shot to try that first. It's free and the worst they can say is "no". Having said that, keep in mind that the T-Mobile variant of the HTC 8x is a different model than the AT&T one. The AT&T one give you LTE on T-Mobile, but they disabled HSPA+ over AWS. (The chipset supports it). The T-Mobile version is the same as the international version with the addition of AWS support in the radio.
I have a TMO HTC 8x and looked into this quite a bit.
Don't know about software, but you get an unlock code on eBay for under $5......
