[Q] Xperia Z keeps restarting, won't reboot, can't update! - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Today I noticed that my phone came up with a hazard type sigh, a triangle with a spanner in it, I decided to leave it because I assumed it was some sort of update. Once it was done I tried to turn on the phone and it started up, got to the sony screen and switched back off again. So then I tried to reboot by holiding the volume up button and nothing happened. It buzzes three times and nothing happens.. So I tried to plug it into my usb and update it but the phone won't start up long enough for it to recognise it.
Help!

Flashed Xperia T with DooMKernel - Now Bricked?

Hi Guys,
Flashed v2 of the kernel using flashtool and it seemed to randomly reboot and crash and be quite laggy etc for some reason.
Rebooted the phone a few times and phone seemed to work and went into sleep. Tried to turn phone on and it is acting as if the battery is as flat as a pancake, no lights nothing on the screen and won't turn on.
Have tried to charge it overnight and still nothing.
Only used the phone for 2days so not sure if it has bricked or it is just a coincidence and the phone was faulty?
Xperia T was running Android 4.1.2 Build 9.1.A.0.489 with bootloader unlocked
Thanks

I can't seem to get a response when connecting the phone via USB to the PC.
Tried holding the volume up button whilst connecting the USB and also with the volume down button to no avail.
Any ideas?

No joy unfortunately, just tried this on another PC to rule that issue out as well.
It's looking like i'm going to have to send it back for a repair me thinks?

I know i'm probably clutching at straws, but is there absolutely anything else I could try?
Put it on charge and eave it for 24 hours.
Sometimes this brings it back to life.
I take it you have done the hold power button and volume up button for 30-40 seconds untill it vubrates 3 times and then tried to turn it on.

Yeah, tried that a few times, unfortunately nothing happened no vibrate or anything.
Will try putting it on charge again for 24 hours and then see what happens, had the phone on charge at the plug socket for around 8 hours last night but nothing change, no charging light or anything else.
I will try sending it back to the supplier I got the phone from if it doesn't spring back to life after charging for 24hours , I'm presuming that in the UK it could be just a simple swap?
Depends on the retailer/network. I worked for a UK network for 5 years. Outside of 7 days a device went off for a repair. Cpw do a 28 day exchange, not sure about all networks etc you'd have to check the returns policies.

I think what I should be asking really is that if they insist on a repair, would they go the whole hog to test if it had been flashed with non sony stuff, would that be highly likely or just simply swap the motherboards without question?

I've let the phone charge for a few hours and now when trying to turn on the phone, the notification led now flashes red where as before it would not do anything when trying to turn on.
When connecting the phone to PC it still isn't detected.
Ive tried to search for what the notification colours mean but couldn't really find anything.
Is this anything hopeful?

Yes, but leave it on charge untill tomorrow...then try the hard reset and turn on.
Then just keep it on the charger. Red led means low battery

Plugged it back in to the wall charger and it had a solid red light for around 5mins which I haven't had before when trying to charge it.
Will leave it plugged in now till tomorrow.
Thanks for your help so far
From my experience the warranty states if you modify the software it voids the warranty. If it's bricked it could be a pcc brick, a friends XT died that way.
So an engineer may just say it's faulty and exchange it. Hard to say but from what you've said it may come back on now it's charging.
Similar issue with my xperia s but it came back on after several minutes

Hi Greg,
Left the phone on charge over night and have tried connecting the phone to PC and managed to get some kind of response when holding either the volume up button or volume down button and connecting to PC and detects the phone as a USB input device for just a second or so, the phone will then have a red LED light again after this.
I connected the phone to PC so I could monitor anything that happened easier and noticed that every now and then the red light will come on for a few seconds and then go off again.
Could I possibly have not left the phone on charge long enough at the plug socket?
Hi,
I had the same problem. When the light turns red wait until the light goes out. Make sure you have flashtool open and make sure you only flash the kernel. Now when the red light goes out hold volume down and plug in the usb cabel connecting to your pc, a green light wil appear. Now really fast flash only the kernel. The phone will go into a bootloop once and goes out again. Now put on the homecharger and wait untill it is about 50 percent. Now put the phone on and everything works as before.

flash the stock kernel for your FW.
Load the FW into flashtool and exclude everything except kernel.

There doesn't seem to be a Build 9.1.A.0.489 (phone had android 4.1.2 and phone is factory unlocked) in the Kernal section in your thread unless I am missing the point?
Downloaded the stock kernel that was in the DooMKernal thread you posted but that doesn't seem to be compatible with flashtool as it is in img and elf files
Sorry for acting dumb.

Phone wont boot (only while USB is connected)

I'm having the weirdest problem.
My Xperia Z wont boot up, it will only boot when i have USB in my PC and connected to the Xperia Z.
When I disconnect the USB the phone shuts down in about 3-15 seconds.
I tried to reflash the stock tft via Flashtool.
I tried to reflash via SUS
I tried to reflash/repair via PC Companion.
At the moment stock firmware is installed but the problem is still there.
I tried to Google but I cant find anyone with the same problem.
Please help!
What's your battery like because to me is sound like a battery problem, USB is supplying power and a soon as you remove power it dies,
Boot phone up and do a service test on battery *#*#service#*#*
A maybe completely wrong
P. S. Have you had your phone near water what colour is the paper under your tabs (should be white not pink)

I have the exact same problem! have you found a solution yet? i'm thinking it's a hardware problem because of the fact that i have had this problem on different ROMs and even when i flashed it back to original firmware using sony's flastool.
The battery test under *#*#service#*#* says there's nothing wrong with it...
It's getting really frustrating actually... Phone is practically unuseable...
i think your phone does not turns off, im having the exact same problem, try put the screen to sleep every 30 minutes, if it last 30 minutes with the screen on, then your phone is having the same problem i have:
something like the volume up button "always pressed" so the power button doesnt react because its like detecting hard reset combination.
if the screen sleeps, you press the power button it does not come up, if you connect the usb, screen comes up. phone is not off.
if its like that, im glad i helped at least identify the problem (if you find a solution other than sending to sony (they'll charge me because my warranty is void) PLEASE TELL ME
EDIT: I FIXED IT!!

[Q] Advice needed! Xperia Sp won't turn on/charge/connect, blinking red light!

Hi everyone! I've been having some issues with my SP. Long ago, I think it was in March, I updated my phone with AU Generic 4.3 Jelly Bean. It was new at the time and official update for UK had not been released. So, I updated the phone with Flashtool. Until then I've kept receiving updates and last week a new update has been released, I think It was .206 update and the notification told me to connect my phone on the PC, apparently it could only be updated by PC Companion. Anyways, it has started downloading the update, but my phone wasn't connected yet. When it told me to connect it, I did it, and somehow I couldn't update and my phone restarted. And then, while I was trying to figure out what was going on the phone screen caught my eye and it shut itself off. Since then I couldn't be able to turn it on. I tried all the button combinations, including the yellow reset button. No response from the phone. I tried charging it, connecting it on my pc, nothing.. I checked the topics on the internet, I charged it for a long time, 3 days or so.. When I woke up in the morning, red light was lit. I checked it in 4-5 minutes it was turned off. Another five minutes it was on again, then it was of and on and on.. I unplugged it and tried the power button. Red light started to blink. I tried volume + and power button it blinked, volume - and power button blinked again. I tried to plug it on the pc nothing happened. I used hair bungee on the volume - button and tried to use flashmode on flashtool. I waited an hour nothing happened. I took the hair bungee off and tried to connect it without pressing any buttons, I received a notifications sound from windows, it was connected for 2 seconds then disconnected again. So, basically I tried everything but couldn't get any solution. I can't flash it. Anyone knows a solution?

Xperia Z... freeze and brick?

Hey there,
So today I was using my Xperia Z aaaand bam, phone "died".
Battery was at that time 70%, phone was a little bit hot, but in scale of 1 to 10 it was like 6. I had not problems previously with it (besides broken screen that got replaced 3 weeks ago). I was playing a game then suddenly it got closed and my screen got shifted. Like Animation of horizontal menu stucked while going to vertical. I pressed power button many times, I've keept holding it for a short time, long time... nothing. Phone did not respond at all. After 10 minutes it went black. No idea if it went "sleep" or so since power button do not work again.
I tried to reset it with Power + Volume down, Power + Volume up and again, nothing.
I've tried factory reset with Sony Companion but no luck either. Phone is NOT detected by that program.
However, when I plug the phone to PC I hear sound that some device has been found. Phone is presented now as QHSUSB_DLOAD in device manager. I've heard that not a good sign...
When I plug it to PC or Charger nothing happens so I have no idea if phone is getting charged or not.
What even more confusing, when I press power button - nothing, phone is COLD. But when I press Power + Volume down after a while it starts to get warm, after a long time of repeating this really warm.
Any ideas what could I do?
Thanks!

Help!! Nexus won't turn on

Can someone please help??
I have a locked Nexus 6 with Stock android. Had this issue today where the phone just froze and then went into a bootloop. At first I got into the bootloader, and pressed factory reset, but nothing happened. Then I became curious/impatient and tried some of the other menus. Last one I tried was QCOMM, and now my phone is totally bricked! I can't get it to start or even charge. Needless to say, I can't even get into fastboot.
Can't even connect it to my computer. Maybe someone out there can help me since I am a complete n00b at this!
If you can't get it to start. ..and if the pc doesn't detect it...look for something called JTAG
Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
long press the power button for 20 seconds straight, that should get it to reboot.
I've tried long pressing the power button as well as the power + volume down buttons for up to a minute, but nothing happens.
Seems like I'm pretty much screwed and have to send it back. It won't even take charge.
I finally managed to turn it on, but it entered into a boot-loop and would not get past the Google logo. In fastboot, the recovery option is in red. Is it supposed to be that way or is it because my phone is locked? When I click recovery,
nothing happens. The phone just goes back to the boot loop.
Edit: Now it's dead again. Effing great!
Is your phone 100% bone stock? Or did you try doing some stuff?
It's 100% stock. I haven't done anything to it.
