Well I had mine today.
I knew it would come as I started to use this tab more and more for my only device. I was trying to get it into a coat pocket that was a bit tight and wham, before I knew it I saw it crashing onto a sidewalk FACE down.
I cringed as I watched it bounce. I didn't hear the screen hit the ground even though it bobbled around face down a few times so i was a bit relieved, but I was still worried picking it up as it hit a corner first.
Happy to say it came through scratch free.
I bought a simple cheap case that does not add much in size and has good grip.
Here it is if anyone is interested. The stylist doesn't work that well and I haven't put the screen protector on yet, but after today I will.

I dropped mine on day one as I hadn't put it into my pocket properly, small ding in the corner. I was not happy.
I managed to leave it on the car roof the other day, it fell off & got ran over by 2 cars before it was retrieved, the case mostly saved it, a bit of the plastic on the other corner is damaged, but it still works fine and the glass is unmarked. A bit of touch-up and it's not a big deal.
Good build quality!
my 5 yr old dropped it 2x times already but its taking it great no scratches or anything
Just like my Galaxy S, the Tab too has been on "Extreme Adventure's"!
The SGS has been seen to slide off a kitchen work surface onto a stone floor and shoot out of my car window (after leaving my dashboard at warp 5.0) onto the road....
The Tab has shown great tenacity in following the SGS enduring 'blind maneuvers' by being sat-upon, knocked off a desk and found in an argument with one of my dogs (my grand daughter had been using the App 'Talking Tom' and put the Tab down to then come out and join me in the next room but left Talking Tom waiting for the next voice to come forth.... It did in the guise of Rags, one of our dogs who took an instant dislike to his barks & growls being played back by Talking Tom the Cat)!!
Thank goodness for Gorilla Glass and the Ebay case's I purchased....
I've decided to get the Otterbox Defender case to prevent any accidental drops and hating myself afterward!

I've dropped mine around 4 times so far - the worst being off a shelf around 4 feet high onto a fairly hard bathroom floor. So far it's survived intact - unlike an iPad one of my kids dropped and which now has a nice dent in the aluminium. Maybe plastic was a better materials choice after all....

What case are you using for the times you plan on dropping the case on purpose.
Sorry couldn't resist.
Dropped mine while on a call, it had a gel skin and screen protector so i though it was ok, continued the call but the other person said they could not hear me very well after the drop. I was devestated and thought it would have to go for repair.
Looking at it after the call i noticed the case had come apart near the microphone, i carefully with light pressure snapped the front and back casing back together and now everything if working perfectly and calls are clear again. Phew!

I don't believe this.
I dropped mine on my way out my front door the other day. Luckily it was in a padded sleeve that I had just bought the day before from Walmart. No damage, but it got me thinking about what could have happened if it wasn't in the sleeve. The only protection it has when it's in use is a Zagg Invisibleshield and Zaggskin. Great for scratch protection, but there's no shock protection. So I've ordered an Otterbox for it. I'm sure it'll be tested at some point.
Dropped mine once and ordered the otterbox

Same here - is there any source for spare parts already?
Dropped mine glass side down on the corner of a metal box. Destroyed the antiglare cover.. my heart was in my throat while I removed it to see if there was permanent damage and to my surprise not a scratch.
Very resistant device
Scratch on the frame
Dropped mine first face down on a tiled floor. No problem. The Gorilla glass is great. Second incident was not so much a drop as an unforseen injury. My Tab was naked in my big old Samsonite wheel bag for a longhaul flight while I slept and the top edge of the frame was pushed by the other stuff in the bag against a metal rivet head inside the bag. The result is 2 little patches of scribble in the coating near the head phone jack. I can confirm the frame is aluminium.
Any reccomendations as to the neatest touch up?
I have the flexible glass screen protector from verizon on my 64g ballistic nylon with no case. Today while getting out of my car (a lowered vw golf) my phone fell off my lap on the the ground probably like only 2 feet from lap to the driveway. Screen completely shattered..... i thought gorilla glass 3 was supposed to be strong? Anyone else crack their screen yet? I know i get one free replacement but still i don't feel like the screen should have cracked this easily.
It's all about the angle in my experience. I've dropped phones and thought they were broke for sure only to see no damage and another time no biggie and I had a broken screen. Usually hits a corner just right. Sorry for your loss. On the a new one..
Its glass. Drop it at the right angle and it breaks.
Am i the only one who has cracked mine though? Has any one else dropped theirs yet? Crack or no crack upon dropping? just curious

I slapped it out of my hand with my other hand today. I was at school on a carpeted floor. No damage at all. Sounded like a brick hitting the ground.
Gorilla glass is not shatter proof. It's scratch proof

My floors have ceramic tile flooring and I've dropped my old phone and my Turbo a few times on them. Face down too. No damage at all occured yet except maybe a scratch in the sides or backing. Screen is perfect though. Dunno what to tell you, sucks that it happened though.
Its a matter of luck. And as far as I can tell we are all pretty lucky to have a free replacement.

You aren't alone. I broke mine drunkenly Friday night, the night after release. Took it into the store Saturday night and got a replacement in the mail on Tuesday. The one time replacement is nice, but had to use it in less than 48 hours. They said I was the first one and they hadn't actually been trained on it yet. So they learned that night lol
It's a huge slab of ultra thin glass, drop it and it will break. It is scratch resistant (gorilla glass) but not shatter-proof, and screen protectors do basically nothing to protect from drops. A fall onto concrete is more likely to break it as well due to variations and protrusions on the surface. If you place our phone face down on a perfectly flat surface you'll notice that the top edge of the phone curves ever so slightly up from the screen, this helps protect it from drops on a flat surface because the force is distributed to those corners instead of directly to the glass. Concrete will usually have sharp protrusions or pebbles or rocks that cause the force to be localized in spots in direct contact with the glass, causing the cracks.
At least you get a free one-time screen replacement (one of the things I like about our phone and is awesome of Moto to do it)
Yup. 3 days in and it fell off the couch and into the hardwood floor. Cracked. Slightly irritated because my Maxx made this same fall a million times. I did not have a case on the turbo. Replacement phone is on the way along with lifeproof case
My screen was scratched within the first few weeks. As thin as a strand of hair, yet extremely infuriating nonetheless. So much for Gorilla Glass.

I guess I am the only who doesn't drop their phone regularly.... I haven't ever scratched or broken a screen and I have had smartphones since the original Droid and I never use a case or screen protector.

I'm sure you know this but there are many common things harder then gorilla glass. Sand is by far the worse corporate in everyday use.

You beat me - I had mine a week. Dropped on a hard floor at work on Friday less than 1 week after I got it. After a few expletives, I phoned Verizon - had to tell them about the one time replacement, but she happily checked into it and I had my new phone on Monday (they say we get a like new refurb - I wonder if I got yours!
I dropped mine from a few feet. The next day it started power cycling over and over, probably 2 hours into this the phone was so hot I couldn't touch it. After that the screen quit working, still seems to function though, 16 days into having this phone so I just missed the hassle free trade in from verizon. Looks like I get to play the waiting game on Motorola, and oh yeah that department is only open Mon-Thurs.
It's all about the angle of the drop. Mythbusters tested it; see: Prince Ruperts Drop. You can drop the glass and it's completely fine, but when you introduce a large force over a small area(say dropping the phone on the corner or in this case cutting the tail end), it shatters. Otterbox commuter cases have saved my previous phone time and time again(At least 10-15 drops) because it absorbs the impact so much less force is transferred to the glass.

I had to return my first one on the first day. Not because of broken glass but the frame around the grass had a spur on it that cut my hand every time I tried to use the volume keys. I went directly to a store to get it replaced. They tried to tell me I had to do it over the phone and have a refurbished unit sent to me. I argued with them and said, I have only had the phone for one day and I paid full price for the phone. There is no way you are going to give me someones phone that they returned. I paid for a new phone and that's what I am going to get and for the price I paid, it better be without any scratches out of the box.
But the phone just coming out, they shouldn't have a lot of refurbished phones, so odds are I would have gotten a new unit. I just didn't want to wait for it to ship to me.
I shattered my first Droid. Was racing my 12 year old grandson and it flew out of my pocket and hit the road. Still have it with a cracked screen. It's my trophy for winning the race when he said I was too old and slow.
To be fair, the newer tempered glass screen protectors protect EXTREMELY well from drops. I work for Best Buy in a large city. I sell anywhere from 15-30 phones a day (and see hundreds of them) and have only actually seen one phone shattered through a Zagg Glass (out of at least a thousand examples) and the one that broke was dropped from a 2nd store balcony.

Mine orange peeled really bad and just didnt look right I thought to myself wtf am I doing wasting time and $ on a screen protector just enjoy the phone none of my phones had a screen protectors and I never had a problem ... so I ripped it off and tossed in trash.
Mine scratched very easily without the cover. Went to the beach, placed the phone inside my bag, after I left the screen had some minor scratches on the screen. I was very pissed, considering i've had a Nexus 5 and taken it to the beach hundreds of times without a cover and never got it scratched, and that phone has gone through hell and back. This S6 Edge on the first day got scratched. Couldn't believe it.
I got the skinomi cover and it fits great. Best thing is it hides the scratches. So i'm a happy camper.
Hi!
I am planning not to use any protective case/covers etc. accessories for my phone. Is it bad idea? Will Samsung S7 edge look like crap soon or it is scratch resistant and will keep nice look even after few months?
How does your phone looks like now after not using any protective covers? Could you post pictures and aprox time of usage?
Thank you, deff_ins
2 months - no protection , I'm carrying it in a pocket without other things like money or keys . No scratches at all , only fingerprints all over
Im a diehard screenprotector and case guy. Since I had been having so many problems finding a curved protector that sticks, and the ones that dont cover the edge looked like crap, I decided 2 months ago to go without a protector. I have a case that shows the edges well, and covers the frame nice.
After two months I finally have a 1/2 inch scratch on the face...nothing too bad and I will live with it...not sure how it happened but the glass has held up pretty well considering I am not a desk guy and am always using and doing things with my phone outside.
Overall Im surprised the glass has done well. That being said, and now that I have a scratch, I will be looking to get a protector again.

Well, good luck with living dangerously. I have my S7 Edge with the LED cover now for 8 months. During that time I dropped it 3 times. The first time the screen and digitizer were broken. The display replacement cost me Euro 260. 10 days after the repair, it dropped out of my pocket again. Invariably, it always lands on the screen because the LED cover flips open when it falls. Display glass cracked but digitizer still intact. After the first accident I had ordered a tampered glass screen protector from Hongkong. It arrived only 2,5 months later. When I finally got it and tried to fit it, half the display was unresponsive. When I tried to remove the glass protector the phone slipped out of my hand and dropped on the tiled kitchen floor. Guess what happened. Part of the display AND the glass protector shattered. The lucky part is, the upper right corner of the display which was cracked before got shattered. The display is still useable. I actally got used to the broken display. My hope is that in the new year the price for a new display might come down a bit. As I'm not planning to buy another expensive phone anytime soon, a second display replacement is probably the cheapest option.
Bottomline: Yes the S7E is a bloody fragile phone! Depending on the individual clumsiness, it is virtually impossible to assume that you will never drop it over an extended period. If you want to have solid protection you have to go for these hideous army style covers but they make the phone look like a monsterous thing. I like covers with functionality like the LED or S View covers but they only protect the edges and backside of the phone.
The Bottomline of the bottomline: Maybe I shouldn't have bought such an expensive and fragile phone in the first place. End of story. Cheers LJ
Back near camera cracked on mine even though I've never dropped it, had to put a skin on it to hide the crack. Also it has a mark on the main screen, suspect coinage in my pocket done that
Never used a case, I've had mine since two weeks after the release. I always carry it in my pocket with my keys and other stuff. Dropped it only once, no scratches cracks or any other damage.
Been using Carol Blue for 2 months. I slapped a dbrand skin on the back the 1st week so I can use it naked and not worry about back glass scratches.
At office and work, I go naked. Out and about, I put on spigen rugged case. Very easy to put on and off and slim enough and plenty protection.
The front screen now has few minor scratches on it. No idea how that happened. I'm very careful with my phone.
I just put armorsuit screen protector on it and it works PERFECT. loving the phone and how it feels in the hand. Amazing. I now have dbrand skin on back and screen protector on the front. Totally protected from scratches when going with no case at home and office.
i never ever used a case in my life. it hides the beautiful lines of the device
Take it from someone who has been through the process of having the screen replaced - use protection!
I dropped it on its face, from toilet height (yes, I was on the bog after a long night shift!) and before turning it over I just knew it was bad. You hear 30 seconds of cracking noises as they tear through the display glass slowly whilst you contemplate your stupidity at the 'oh s**t' moment you just found yourself in.
Cost me £50 in excess as I was insured luckily, however with no insurance you're looking at £200 ball park.
I actually had the LED case on at the time. That did naff all in protecting the screen. Flip cases really should have some sort of auto close feature! Might have been enough to save the screen if so!
I always thought about going without anything, but I love the led case to much. I don't know how so many people have broken theirs while also using this case, I've dropped it more times than I can count. Even especially since I typically keep the phone on my lap when driving, so I tend to open the door, stand up, and find it on the asphalt ground.
I still even have the square sticker on the back of my phone. No scratches, no breaks, perfect.
Update : just wanted to update my previous post with this new information. I ordered and received the ArmorSuit screen protector for my S7 Edge. I have never used a wet screen protector before and I have never found an edge screen protector that sticks or works either in the dry form or the tempered glass.
I watched the video on installation. it took me about 10 minutes to put it on. I let it air dry for another 15 minutes then using a hair dryer on low setting I got the sides to easily adhere to the screen. Left it overnight, put on my I-Blason edge case. I have never been so happy as I have with this screen protector on it looks amazing. Edges stick perfectly.
I'm glad to have my screen protected again and the case on ..I just don't think it's worth taking the chance with such an expensive device. I lived on the edge for a few months with nothing on it, but I'm glad I have something back on it now.

I wish I took a picture of the device I just returned. Dropped it and it fell on a rock. Ugly circular crack and a first the phone still functioned but after about a week my screen just went haywire and would only turn on after multiple power on and offs.
It was all bad lol
Didn't believe it when I saw my screen. Fell from my shoulder after a call and landed on the wood floor in my horse. The zagg protector flew off and was about a foot from my phone. It was cracked all over originating in the corner and middle. My actual screen had a crack curving from the left top corner from edge to edge. Well anyone that has these watch out how you drop them. The screen protector won't stay on very well with the edge adhesive protector. Never buying them again. Apparently the defender fails at defending. Had otterbox for many years without any incident. Watch out people.
Damn that sucks. Sorry for your loss. Starting to wonder if even my bulky case with integral protector will do any good if an Otterbox failed you.
Does the Defender also leave the screen proud of the edges of the case?
Those stick on screen protectors do not work well with the edges. All the protectors ive tried that just stick on like that dont stay on for me for more than a week. Im currently rocking a whitestone dome with a spigen tough armor case and ive dropped this phone like 6 times so far. 2 Down my wooden stairs.
Sorry to heat that your phone didnt make the fall though Hopefully you can get it repaired or replaced....

No the case is higher than the screen. It dropped on the top left corner. The crack goes over the sensors up there. I'm with Verizon and asurion said they were backordered so no replacement. Plus it 200 for replacment
Those sticker PET films that I use are only good for scratches not drops, agreed. hence why I use a leather wallet style case.
OP sorry for your loss, hopefully Samsung will replace with a 300 bucks charge, I think thats the going rate here in teh USA for screen replacement from them?

Wasn't intentional. But after my friend went through a similar thing with the same setup, I wanted to put out a PSA that got people's attention.
Just dropped mine yesterday. Wearing sweat pants with short pockets, my phone slipped out of my pocket after taking a seat, and fell to the floor, the edge of my N8 hitting the edge of a brick step. Thank God, my phone came out unscathed, with the exception of a broken Whitedome SP, and a slightly chipped 19.99 Official Samsung plastic cover protector.

Sincerely sorry for your loss there...... But lol @ "watch how you drop your phone" ?
Bought screen protector from Zagg.. within first week it started cracking ON ITS OWN just from being in my scrubs pocket. Sent that back and tried another thinking it was my fault.. nope the second one cracked on its own. Called verizon and got a credit they them sent me one of theirs and after 2 weeks my screen was full of lint and dirt and would barley stick to screen. I am now convinced anyone with a curved screen just better be extra cautious with their device because it's difficult to keep a screen protector on long... if only other box would .and the full defender case with glass protector attached like they did for previous devices
I bought my Galaxy Note 8 in September 2017. I have a SPECK Presidio Grip military grade case and later got the Otterbox Defender thinking it was the case Since purchasing the ZAGG $49.99 from Verizon in March 2018, I have had 3 screens replaced. 2 within one week's time as it also CRACKED ON ITS OWN! I am very careful with my phone, even went as far as purchasing a Michael KORS phone wallet. I agree with one of the other customers. It must be the curved screen and the Otterbox no longer come with a protective screen over the case.

Otterbox commuter is still great, but yes I'd stay away from the Defender from now on (due to the hard inner shell design).
This has me worried; I'm using the Whitestone Dome with a standard Caseology case.. I've dropped my phone multiple times and I've had no issues save for the protector lifting on one corner at one point; I was considering a bulkier case- do you guys think it's still worth it?
