Hi all, I'm posting after weeks lurking here how to make my Kindle Fire HD 2 a real table. I followed many steps but now I can't even switch on the kindle so I ask you if I can solve my problem.
The kindle I have is the Kindle Fire HD (I guess 2) with Microphone and Webcam. The Version is 7.2.1
At first I rooted the device using the instruction on this page:

Eveything worked and not without any effort. I had to install the Android SDK and test many times the adb tools.
Before that I tried the KUF 0.9.6 but didn't work.
After the rooting I wanted to install TWRP, my purpose is to have a tablet with Android.

I guess here is the mistake. I downloaded the twrp 2.3 and firefirefire 1.2 and installed as wrote in that page, but now I can't switch on the kindle. Really is like death.
Could anyone explain me what I did wrong? Could I still recover the tablet?

The post you linked explains a method for KINDLE FIRE 1ST GENERATION, there's no possibility for now to get a recovery working in our devices regardless of whether the device is a Kindle Fire HD or a Kindle Fire 2. So, you probably bricked your device. From my point of view you only have 2 choices: You can retUrn it to Amazon and pray, or you can try with this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254.
But please, read everything before doing anything.

Thanks. I'm downloading the system from the thread you pointed me out. But what make me very disappointed is the fact that the kindle isn't switching on anymore. This is really odd.
I'll try to fix it if I can't I'll send to amazon and I'll pray.
Anyway, where are the instruction to flash the Kindle HD 7.2.1?

There is no way you can get your device working now. As far as we know, only Amazon has the ability to fix a second generation device that has an unsigned bootloader or recovery installed.

Yesterday, i bought a fire hd(Version 7.4.3). Then i followed a step by step describtion to root the tablet. I thought the root were successful but now the tablet runs very slow. I dont know what i´ve done or what happened.
What can i do? Can i maybe re-root the tablet?
Please i need help!

How did u root? I used binary version only...don't use qemu version

I've rooted my Kindle just now with Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v31.zip, now it's so freaking slow... Some process is apparently running in the background and sucks processor's resources. The screen is blinking every two seconds, like graphical subsystem is overloaded.

Speicfically, they recommend to run this automated Qemu root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893838

The qemu was mainly for 7.2.3 tablets
Screaming idgaf with his windows down and his system up
You need to rerun the rooting method as instructed as mine that and couldn't work out why and read the instructions and it says do it again and everything will run as normal. So all you need to do is rerun the rooting method again and kaboom its rooted and running as normal I used method 2 to root my kindle. Hope this helps

Yes and you need to run the rooting method twice or it will be very slow. I used method 2, coudnt get qemu to work properly coz of adb I may of missed something but method 2 was simple and easy also after rooting use firehd I think or fire somethink apk file its in the instructions anyway

Ok, so I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, but I have managed to root my Kindle Fire HD 7" and I installed the Google play store, so I was happy thus far. Yesterday I lost root and couldn't figure out why. Today I noticed that my Kindle had done an update from 7.4.6 to 7.4.8 and I'm wondering if this is why I lost root? If so, how can I fix this to get my Kindle back into root? Like I said, I'm a noob and don't want to screw up my Kindle messing around with stuff when I don't have a clue. Any advice would be of great help, thanks in advance.
Oh yeah, I should add this information: I get this pop up from Superuser, "There is no SU binary installed and Superuser can not install it. This is a problem"
Yea when it updates it clears the system partition where the su binary is stored, you need to reroot it. Never heard of a 7.4.8 update, but if it is a new one and you can reroot it then you can just downgrade it with kindle fire first aid by sticking it into fastboot with a simple "adb reboot bootloader", think kffa will do it for you though.

I'll think about it and maybe give it a try tomorrow after I get some sleep and my head is clear. Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.

I had the same problem starting yesterday. My Kindle upgraded to 7.4.8 and any app requiring root stopped working, namely Google Play Store, SuperUser, ... I used KFFirstAide to re-root the Kindle and all is working so far.

:good: Awesome, thanks for passing that on to me, I'm going to give it a go and see what happens. I'll post a status update later today after I've had a chance to thoroughly test it.
:victory: Well I got it to root again and reinstalled google play with no issues to report, all went well. So is there a way to stop Amazon from updating my Kindle in the future? Now, the next task is to get a second boot loader on it, although I don't have a fastboot cable, so I'm kinda chicken, hahaha. But I'm feeling confident now, so maybe I'll give it a shot tonight. Wish me luck... A big thanks for the help, I guess I just needed some reassurance on re-rooting the thing and I'm happy.
Just make sure you downgrade the bootloader first, if you don't use the fireflash method then I recommend making sure to check the md5sum of the bootloader before downgrading it so you don't end up with a paperweight.

I'm having this issue also. Same update, same loss of SU + Play store.
I can't get my kindle to root like before though. It says it was successful but my fire becomes extremely laggy, no icons appear, where the navigation swipe is there are slightly darker vertical lines and the only way I've fixed it is by factory restore.
How are you rerooting???
I can't remember how I rooted in the first place, I only remember that I had massive issues getting GP store on and used this KFFA which is what I'm now using to reroot.

same thing happen to me so I tried getting adb to work witch it didn't that well, so I downloaded the update .bin file from amazon and edited it useing winRAR just added SuperSU to /system/app then changed a few things in kindle first aid then used a fastboot cable to upload the custom update so my kindle is running v7.4.9 witch I changed it to because it didn't work any other way. i'll make a video

I just followed the same steps as I did the first time I rooted it, I used KFFA. But this time around some of the actions described didn't happen, like Superuser didn't ask for permission as it did the first go around and a few other little things, but I just took it slow and easy and it came out working fine. Also I used KFFA to install GP, it also skipped a few actions, but I just have it a little extra time to do its thing and it works perfectly. I saw a fix for the laggy screen and icons issue somewhere, I think it's in KFFA? I would have to double check that when I get home to be certain.

Thanks for the heads up on that, I've held off on doing it until I have more time to research it. I like to feel somewhat comfortable going into it and not totally freaked out. Thanks again, you guys are great around here.

I rooted using The Bin4ry Method and using KFFA to bring all the other systems back on line.
is anyone having problems with ADB and fastboot on 7.4.8?
Because I tried rooting using KFFA that didn't work I kept getting errors so I tried using fastboot to flash the recovery using this code

I get "device not found" or when it dose work i get "failed to flash" (something like that) but i have the adb drivers installed would there be different ones for 7.4.8? When I type

it finds the device it just dosn't work when I want to flash
and only half the adb commands work
You have to have it with a special parameter telling it what the kindles vendor id is so it should look like this...:

I tried using bin4ry's root, which is how I originally rooted my kindle, but it did not work.
I am pleased to say that KFFirstAide was able to restore root.

on my other kindle i used Bin4ry root witch work but i had to turn off adb/usb debugging and turn it back on during the process because it wouldn't find the device if i didn't

wtf????? that was a twrp image for the kf1, that should have broken more than it fixed on a kfhd.

hi guys, I live in Cuba and just received a kindle fire HD 2013 as a gift. Access to information about the kindle is very difficult here. could anyone please tell me if there is anyway to root the device and install android 4.2.2? What little number of posts I have managed to open tell me it's not possible yet. is this true? any help would be appreciated. thanks!

Hi.
I've followed this method down to the letter and still no root. Any ideas?
I test it by trying to edit the hosts file to prevent auto updating to no avail. I've also tried some other root functions in ES File Explorer and they have not worked.
Also, in your opinion will flashing other ROMs be possible in the future or is it unlikely? I'm just wondering whether I should check back every so often or should I not bother?

I seriously doubt we are going to unlock the bootloader, it just doesn't seek worth it on this particular device because we have 3 or 4 other model kindles already available to flash and they technically have better features on them like HDMI and a camera, so I would think someone would be more intersected in the HDX's if anything, and who knows an exploit on them might work with the bootloader on the 2013, but no guarantees on that as the CPU and hardware is different so I'm assuming the bootloader quite different.
As to your problem with rooting, give me some feedback or a log of the terminal output so I have an idea of what happened, I don't have a 2013 model so I have never attempted its rooting process, but I can probably help with errors. Oh and for the record, on a command print you can right click in the window, hit mark, highlight as much of the text as you want, hit enter and it copies it to the clipboard so you can paste it into code brackets here. Most people don't see. To know this for some reason and just screenshot the command prompt... Seems kinda basic that any windows app has basic copy and paste functionality in it. Lemme end this post before I start ranting about how Linux has even better copy and paste support.

This thread appears to be vacant for a while so I thought I would ask directly. I inherited my wife's old Kindle yesterday and I hate the interface. I don't want to brick it but it wouldn't break my heart. I am not an IT guy but I understand the general concepts. I have seen some videos on Youtube with what appears to be, almost too easy, instructions on how to root directly from the Kindle.
I could deal if I just got GoLauncher, Google Play and some of the apps I commonly use on my Android phone but a recent installation of 1Market or Market1 proved an act in futility (Google won't work with my OS, can only find China GoLauncher) I searched my phone for apks but assume I need more apps or instruction.
So, I am asking if I should root - which rooting process should I use and if I do - where do you get Jellybean, KitKat, etc and can you get Marshmallow?

If there are tips and tricks for certain roms, the op will usually post them in the thread, just read carefully and read it again.
