The speakers are too loud even on the lowest setting in some quieter situations (night time, alone at home, quiet restaurant, etc). It would be nice if someone can create a mod to allow us to reach even lower volumes. I know I am not the only one with this problem since I've seen a few threads with people of the same problem.
Thanks.

That only gave me more steps but the first two or so steps are absolutely silent (problem confirmed in that thread) so I still can't reach those low volumes.

I have my alarm, notification, and ring tones set to one notch above 0 and the alarm still makes me jump out of bed and I jump anytime my phone rings. Does anyone else think their ONE is incredibly loud? I can't imagine setting the volume to anything over 20%.
You can make it noticeably quieter by enabling Beats.
Aside from that, yes, it is a very loud phone by default.
This is going to sound a tad odd, but I think that the lowest volume is not low enough and the highest setting can definitely be higher!
The lower end of the volume should be a tad less. Enough for you to hear it in a quiet room, but not enough to fill up the quiet room (currently the case)
The higher end should drown other devices, but at the current software # version, it only beats other devices by a slight margin...
Think Devs are on this (increasing the max, decreasing the min), but I actually don't have confirmation -- just something that seems logical..
Anyway, hopefully things work themselves out and lower gets lower while higher gets slightly louder =] (maybe add some volume points)

I have heard the original 1.28 version volume levels were substantially higher. I am on 1.29 and they were supposedly reduced on that version. I was looking for a zip somewhere that would just install the 1.28 volume files. I like my music loud and the 1.29 version is not loud enough. When I stream music in my car or to my sound system at home it has plenty of volume because of the amplifiers in those systems.
Nots not the loudness, its the fine control of the volume we'd like to see

Hi,
I'm rooted, but I'd prefer to keep the stock kernel. Is there any way to gain better control over the volume? The lowest volume setting, for media/songs, etc., is entirely too loud for an office or in bed. I would like to avoid using my headphones 24/7.
Thanks!

*cough*porn*cough* I would feel weird watching 'media' in bed with my headphones on too. I haven't found a way of lowering the lowest volume setting yet though...
edit: there's a flashable mod by Matt here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2299834 that gives finer control between steps (30/45 steps instead of stock 15) but doesn't lower the lowest step volume, hence the reason the lowest two steps are silent with the mod..
I just picked up a couple brand new Nexus 6 on a sweet deal (not the 6P, just the 6). My wife and I both use one now. We both noticed that when the earpiece volume is set to the lowest, someone near us can still hear the conversation. So, if my wife is talking to someone on her phone via the earpiece, I can hear that person talking when I am probably 3-5 feet away. Not at a speaker phone level, but clear enough to hear the entire conversation. Me, coming from a Nexus 5 and my wife coming from a Moto X, we didn't have this problem before.
Is there any way we can adjust it to not allow for this to happen anymore? What can one do when the lowest volume setting is still just a little too loud? We'd just like a little more privacy when using the phone during a call.
Thanks!

Thanks, I'll look into that, but was really hoping there was something that can be done without needing a 3rd party. I know older phones/OS would have some sort of enhanced privacy setting, which I can no longer find. I don't even know if that setting is what I think it is, but it just seems like there has to be some other way? Even the phone's lowest volume for ringtone is much louder than then Nexus 5's. I realize they are different phones with different manufacturers/hardware, but I guess I figured volume levels were the same or at least close.
Voice call volume becomes EXTREMELY loud with headphone plugged
If you are facing exactly same issue like me

2. https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...lume-is-extremely-loud-with-headphone.615750/
please reply to this thread and also this thread on oneplus's community(https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...extremely-loud-with-headphone-plugged.616260/) to raise ONEPLUS's AWARENESS.
It just drives us CRAZY!! and this problem is really SERIOUS! you just can't use your headphone during a voicecall....
I have tried 4+ different headphones for testing already, no luck. The issue still persisted!
THERE is also NO PROBLEM with these headphones and I'm actually not a newbie to android so I know I've already set the VOICE VOLUME to MINIMUM !
If you never start a voice call with headphone before (not including bluetooth headphones), just help me to do a test!
1. plug-in your headphone
2. start a voice call to test whether the volume is extremely loud or not with voice volume set to minimum.

I have reported the issue to ONEPLUS a half month ago already.
I also believe I am not the only one facing this problem, and this is also confirmed by other oneplus 5 users in community.
I hope users who is facing exactly same problem like me can reply to these two threads, urging ONEPLUS to speed up the progress!

Yes, same problem, loud call volume on headsets
Yes, noticed it on my very first call. Couldn't reduce the volume enough to be comfortable.
I also noticed that there are far fewer levels of volume available on the phone volume slider compared to for media volumes etc.
I needs a software fix or could someone suggest a volume control app or alternate dialer app?
I will look at the other threads / oneplus forum and comment there too, Cheers, S
I feel its OK and normal. Don't hear it too loud.
Same problem here, using the ear buds bought from OnePlus. Can barely put them in ear for calls. Extremely frustrating considering we can't edit the step sizes in OOS either.
Video call today with Hangouts with my wife and it almost blew my ears!
I instantly pull of the earphones from my ears.
What is even more disturbing is that the volume controls don't change ANYTHING. All reduced to lowest and the volume doesn't change a bit...
What is wrong with OnePlus?
they said it will be fixed on next OTA

And now it is already 19th tho
I haven't installed the new 4.5.11 ROM.
Was this problem addressed? I didn't see it in the changelog..
Has anyone tested it?
Brand new OnePlus 5T. Used headphones on a call. nearly blew my ears off. Anyone know of an app to override the settings and make the volume lower?
All the people having this issue, are you using the EQ when listening to music and possibly not disabling that on the voice call?
I've never listed to music on the phone. I have an app for audiobooks but no EQ with it.
Solution for call headphone so loud
Hello,
The only one solution that I have found, is to root the phone with in order to install the Custom Kernel : Boeffla-Kernel
The App of this kernel let you reduce the sound of the headphone output so in communication with headphone you will have a volume as low as you want.
May be that others custom Kernel permits to do that,
Enjoy,
Tinoplus

is that real?
i means the "VOICE Volume" not the "MEDIA Volume"
Can Boeffla-Kernel modify VOICE Volume?
Also Voice Media

Nice ! No prob
Just got the Note9 after have the 8. Nasty surprise when I found out it is almost impossible to hear notification sounds on this phone due to streaming through only the bttome speaker while all other audio is through both. Samsung states its a "limitation of the device".... So that.
Anyone know of an app or other method that would allow me to set the notificatio sounds to stream as rigntone or media to get them in stereo? I tried Lightflow and setting the sound through there as a full ring tone, but it still streams the audio as a notification through the bottom speaker only.
Bump
It's lower than the note 8 I think.
Sent from my SM-N960U1 using Tapatalk
It's definitely lower than the Note 8. Not sure why only the notifications play through one speaker and all others are through both. An app or work around would be incredible.
Hey guys, having the same issue here. I am using an app called Volume Booster Goodev. No root needed. Just set the volume to go up by 10% and you should be fine. I know I am, cause I missed my notifs before... Good Luck!

I noticed the low volume when playing podcasts. I downloaded the app you recommended, and now I'm happy! With the 10% increase there is no distortion, only loud clean sound. Thanks

Happy to help! The only thing they recommend is not to go over 40% increase. But 10% is enough anyway

Not as straight forward, but if you have used it, Tasker will play the sound through as stereo once set up. Works really well :good:
You re welcome, glad I could help
Hi. Does it also rise the in call volume?
I don't feel like it helps...my calls sound is low
But still it is not activating the upper speaker.
I see this post is quite old. But, wanted to report Volume Booster GOODEV solved *my* problem as well. Thank you *so much* for posting this solution! btw, had to use a tor browser to post this reply (XDA's server won't allow me to register a user *and* post from the same IP in a short period of time??) lol
