Android Revolution 4.2.2 and how to access our files - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The Android Revolution thread is going haywire with people asking the same questions no answers. So I figure we start a separate thread on this issue.
So where are our files and how I access them?

Actually I found it with root explorer, now what do I do with that file where's the best place to move it to?

The best thing to do would have been to backup your entire storage to a pc, format, wipe, and flash then move everything back over.
What you can do now is manually move everything back into the correct spot, I tried it that way but after about 5 mins I just restored my old nandroid and did it the right way.
Sent from my Tricked out HTC One

From what I gather the new correct spot will be /data/media/0
I tried copying everything from /data/media into 0, but nothing worked. My camera would take pictures, but it couldn't then find the pictures it had taken. Plugging it into the computer brought up a proper looking file structure, but the folders were all empty. I ended up having to do a Format Data in TWRP and allow the entire structure to be created from scratch, it worked fine for me after that.
I also found that just going back to a 4.1.2 rom didn't work properly for me until I wiped, a phantom 0 folder was still getting created, and a few random things were going in there. Once again a omplete wipe, then restoring a backup took care of the issue. Restoring my backup did not work properly until after I wiped everything.

You suddenly renamed them with spaces.

Lol
I actually thought we shouldn't rename them at all. Is it ok to rename it as long as it has no spaces then?
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
I dunno! But given that people usually manage to rename them back, I'm guessing it's ok, since who would be able to remember the original name?
I only changed it once and managed to find the original name in one of the log files in the backup eventually in order to change it back.
Since then I just keep the backups I want to name on my computer inside folders that would be named.

TWRP Restore Empty

Hi all,
I am trying to restore a twrp backup that I made, but when I go to twrp and click restore I get a black screen where it should show me the backup file, yet I can navigate via the pc to phones internal storage to TWRP/BACKUPS/2013-06-19--12-07-12/ and all the win files and md5 files are in that folder, tried making that folder into a zip and flashing like you would a normal rom install but it just fails. Please help folks!
never mind, figured it out

Sure I just figured it was me being stupid and most people would know!, for some reason, twrp was only reading the sdcard but the backup was actually stored in /data/media/twrp/backups (no idea why it started doing this, I actually have 2 HTC ones both being sent back to vodafone and never had this prob on the first unit), anyway, I downloaded a app called root explored which enabled me to copy the backup file from data/media/twrp/backups to the sdcard/twrp/backups folder and then I could restore
I am sure there is a reason why I had this problem but I wouldn't have a clue as to why! But anyway that's how I solved it, I am sure there is an easier way tho!

It does this with 4.2.2 I think it sucks actually because if you want to copy a back up to/from your computer you have to use adb push or copy it over to your sd, then move it into /data/media

twrp not seeing backups / vice versa on file explorer

Just got my HTC1. rooted and flashed twrp 2601. back upped the stock rom. flashed venom and after getting it where I'd like, made a backup of that. now when i go to es explorer i can see my stock backup in the twrp folder but not the venom backup. when I go to twrp recovery, I can only see the venom backup but not the stock backup.
Any ideas on what the issue is?
There will be a backup folder in data/media and data/media/0, the folder in data/media needs to be merged with the other one.

thanks cory. wierd how the directory switched like that. that's a first. is there an option to change the directory back to sdcard/twrp? couldn't find anything

That's due to the change in file structure between 4.1 and 4.2+
Don't know about TWRP, but for CWM recovery you can create a symlink, here's how: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991657
Though it seems the newer version of the recoveries have already been corrected.

Yah, it's because 4.2 added multi-user support.
So user data would be,
Data/media/0
Data/media/1
And so on...
I'm not sure about the option in twrp, I just formatted my SD and started fresh.

everything gone

i need help getting my root back. i've updated to 4.3 but in the process all my pictures/music/personal stuff is gone. in the storage section it's saying that 27gb is still being used so i'm assuming the data is still there but i can't do anything until i get my root back. i've tried to flash a custom recovery through fastboot but i'm getting a reported max download size error. can anyone help out?
I'm new to HTC one, but maybe structure of 4.3 differ from 4.1.
So connect phone to computer, copy all files and search folder/files there.

Sounds like you have been flashing a lot of 4.2.2 roms so you may have a bunch of /0/0/0 folders that could be why you have so little space left

I haven't flashed any roms on this phone. I've been stock since day one. I want to try some data recovery software but I need root to utilize it. I can't get root until I install recovery but I can't do that because I keep getting an error.

well thanks to this fine user i found all of my missing data. i have another quick question however...
i noticed in data/media (which is where all my lost data was located) there is a 0 folder that houses the current contents of the "sdcard". i noticed that /sdcard and data/media/0 are linked together but i'm not sure which is the emulated folder and which is the proper folder. basically what i'm trying to do is restore the contents of the data/media folder to it's proper location. i read that the "0" folder is created for a second user? if that's the case if i move the contents of the "0" folder to the the data/media folder would the "sdcard" folder reflect those changes or would i have to move data/media to "0" instead?

R/W problem [solved kinda]

I've got a problem and can't seem to find a fix.
Been rooted and s-off for a couple weeks now.
I started out getting rooted through htc dev unlock and flashing Capt's recovery (the one that erased everything). I installed Viper and after some persistence a good guy talked me into s-off.
No problems.
Last night I decided to get crazy and try a new ROM. I chose Bad Boyz cause OMJ always seems like a legit person.
So to my problem in the best details possible (my apologies if all this is unnecessary)...
I did a backup (of course) and installed Bad Boyz ROM. During setup I hit a bump. HTC was restoring my setup and apps and it got stuck so I rebooted. Immediately after that I finished setup and then Google play kept giving me an "error 920".
I went into recovery and using Capt's 2.7.0.7 twrp fixed permissions. That didn't work. I restored my Viper backup. That didn't work. Using Titanium Backup I wiped Google play store data then cache. That worked!
However, one problem solved a bigger one arises.
I no longer have the ability to move files from internal sd to external.
I've tried everything I can think of. I've checked on ES File Manager it says it's R/W but fails when tried. Same with Root Explorer and FX.
I've wiped and reinstalled Viper but same problem.
I've read MassStash's thread and tried to go into system/etc/permission/platform but it already shows as rw.
So I'm stumped. Can anyone help?

Sir, simple I had same issue... When I open ES Explorer, I find the Root Explorer Option, tick it off, Exit out go to Superuser and clear any ES Explorer opinion you find. Go open ES Explorer and press back key when it asks for Root Permissions, go to Root Explorer option and tick it back on, accept Root Permissions! Then you press and hold on Root Options, It'll pop up a R/W menu where you can remount system, and external card, etc... If that doesn't do it it's got me beat!!

EVOuser94 you better quit calling me sir! Make me think I'm old lol.
Not sure what the issue was. Just one particular file that appeared when changing ROMs wanted to be stubborn. Finally just deleted the file and put it behind me.
Thanks to Vinchenzop from the Viper team on the HTC Max & EVO 4g lte and MassStash for assistance in helping a brother out. Think I'd still be messing with it if it weren't for them ?
Anyway problem (kinda) solved
