Does anyone notice that the maps app is unusually jittery or choppy on the HTC One? More specifically, I'm comparing it to the Nexus 4. Scrolling/panning and pinch-zoom in google maps on the N4 is much smoother than my HTC One and I'm not sure why. The One will frequently not register some swipes/pinches and often the scrolling is quite jittery while the map is loading while scrolling. On the N4, I can pan freely and it won't miss any inputs. I've tried this on both 3G and wifi with both phones and the results are the same regardless of the connection type. Both have the most up to date version of the application as well. Could this be a 4.1 to 4.2 issue?
Still no one bothered by this? I have tried many HTC One's as well as a few Galaxy S4's and they all have the same problem. It seems Google Maps for 1920x1080 devices suffer from this problem. I have frequent crashes too (the application just closes and dumps you to the home screen).
Guess there's nothing that can be done but wait for Google to update the application I guess...
Yeah, I noticed that too on my HTC One. It really bothers me, I'm surprised that they haven't fixed it already. I noticed it with the official 4.1 and 4.2 android versions as well as a custom 4.2 HTC sense rom. I haven't tried it with stock android (Google Play edition HTC one) yet, but I definitely will. My old HTC Desire S with cm10.1 works perfectly with the new maps, without any jitter at all. Come on Google, get this fixed.

So I haven't installed a version of Opera for a while. Can anyone tell me where to get the best version/build? Last time I looked into this there were all sorts of issues with Opera (memory leaks, crashing, flipping the display, etc). Is there a decent working build yet?
Can someone link me up to the best current version?
I'm running M2D Iolite with the footprints tab. Everything else, including Youtube player, Opera, and Google Maps are all from Update 20.Can't say how they would work independently, but as a package, it works great for me. The Google Maps used to take a while to get a lock, but I've found that if I run GPSed once, I average 10-20 second locks consistently with Google Maps after that unless I reset. Not sure why, and I don't care. It works, even indoors.
Since updating to cm 4.1.11.1 with the new 1.6 donut I'm having some issues with apps that use google maps such as the weather channel, weatherbug, and my tracks. On all three apps, when the map loads there is a blank grid section in the lower left area of the screen. In the case of the weather apps, the issue is in the radar map section. The blank area is in the exact same spot on the screen for all three apps. However, the actual Google Maps app works fine. If I downgrade to cm 4.0.4, the apps work fine, so I'm assuming the issue has to deal with the new 1.6 firmware, but I haven't been able to find anyone else having these problems with cyanogen's rom or the stock one. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Known issue which will be fixed in the next build:

After the My Tracks upgrade it worked fine until I clicked <Send Now> when I tried to send to Google.
I am running the latest Cyanogen Mod., 4.2.13
Hey Everyone,
I'm really enjoying the multi touch in the browser and the album. However, it is disappointing that it does not work in Google maps... I thought I saw a version that ran on the G1 that worked with multi touch, is that something we can get on the Eris? Or do we need root first?
Thanks!
i would say root first of course
I don't know if it's possible to crack the Google Maps application but thats the only way i see of getting Multi-Touch in there. But yeah I don't think there is one...Laxattack is there a multi-touch google maps for root users?
I thought I saw a GMaps that used multi-touch when the G1 was first hacked to take advantage of it years ago. But I did some Googling tonight and it appears it was just a very simple demo/wrapper app that "basically just wraps a WebView and displays your current location on the map, which you can then scroll around and zoom into/out of".
It does have an .apk link though... article is here:
http://lukehutch.wordpress.com/2009/01/25/get-multi-touch-support-on-your-t-mobile-g1-today/
(Scroll down to the middle under MTMapsDemo). I had heard Google will be releasing Multi-touch enabled Google apps soon for the Nexus 1, so hopefully they'll come to the Eris too.
Multitouch requires root for most apps.
An official multi-touch version of Google maps was released for the Nexus 1 today...

Hopefully if/when we get Root this can be ported over to the Eris!
Multitouch is part of 2.1. If we get 2.1, we get multitouch. Without 2.1, we need root.
Hey everyone
Here is the problem: Recently I decided to update google maps to the newest version 6.0.0. This update made it simply useless for me. GPS locking is good, however scrolling around and zooming in and out is just plain terrible. Anyone know why this is? I tried to uninstall updates but it reverts back to 5.8.0 which is equally as bad. Is there anyway to improve Google Maps? I know that it has a lot of features however the usability is completely gone now for me it is very slow and laggy every time I start it.
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you !
I do not know ..
I also have a similar issue though I don't have a Galaxy S - I have a Galaxy Ace running BehradGH's Cyanogen mod RC2.2.
I often got very laggy maps (totally unusable) and also many "this application has become unresponsive" messages and the options to force close or wait.
I have had to roll back to 5.11 which I had a titanium backup of - this works fine/normally.
I really don't know what causes the issue, I just hope its fixed in the next incremental update.
Ever since Google Maps was updated to v6.0, I've noticed that certain things, such as highway shields, show up as blank squares. I've tried each subsequent version up to 6.2.0, but the same thing happens. I've tried clearing the app's cache and the dalvik cache, to no avail. I have screenshots, but can't link to them, as I'm still a noob here, so I've attached them to this post.
ubJSH.png is Google Maps 6.0.3, but all subsequent versions do the same thing.
MsZNV.png is Google Maps 5.12 after uninstalling Maps 6.0+ and installing the 5.12 apk.
All Google Maps v6.0+ work perfectly on the stock 2.1 HTC Hero, so it seems to be a problem specific to Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 (can't vouch for earlier CM versions). It must not happen on other phones, or we would be hearing more about it.
Any thoughts?
I've seen the same thing on my phone. It may have to do with the phone being under powered?
confirming the glitches
The same thing is happening to on my Hero. I get the white boxes that show up on the map. The text for street names also is all messed up. This seems to happen randomly but usually almost always occurs when scrolling/moving around on the map.
