[Q] Push Gmail with Native Mail App - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I apologize in advance if this has been answered somewhere as I couldn't find anything relevant when I searched. I am trying to enable push email on my Gmail account using the native app. I know this can be done with the Gmail app but is there a way to active push on the native app with Gmail?
Many thanks for the help.

Just use exchange for now till they kill it soon.
Server is m.google.com

Connect to stock yahoo email client app

I'm having a problem connecting my phone to the stock email client. Does anyone have an idea on how to get yahoo to connect.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I am 99% certain you need to pay for it by upgrading your yahoo account.

Open email, type in user name and password, click manual setup, click imap, type in imap.mail.yahoo.com, leave port same, click next, type in smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com, click next... that should get you going, it worked for me!

I don't think you have to pay to do IMAP connect - only if you want POP3. For me Yahoo worked even with auto settings. Only thing is, I have not been able to get it to push email. I have to set it to check regularly.
I had it set up before I started using cognition but more it won't let me. It keeps saying wrong user name or password and I know their both right

Any ideas

Yahoo is free for pop3 email but you have to pay for imap (push email) the same reason I gave it up and never suggest yahoo to anyone. Dont believe me check THIS out

Gmail App vs HTC email app

I have a question about the gmail app vs the preinstalled email app.
I know the official gmail app recieves gmail instantly when they come, but can i just unistall the gmail app itself, an use the gmail setting in the standard email app, an still get emails instantly?
The gmail app pushes notifications to your phone. The email app pulls them to your phone.
The benefits of push are 1.faster notifications 2.better battery life because google's servers are doing most of the work.
when i hade my iphone 4 non of the emails were push but i had my gmail setup as a microsoft exchange and changed some setting and i was getting my gmail pushed dont know if this is the same as htc mail app
Is it possible with gmail application to show the number of new unread email on the icon?

Yes it is if you download Gmail Unread Count from the Market.
Is there anyway to set this up to where gmail will push emails to the htc app rather than the stock gmail app? Id like to just use the htc email app instead of having my gmail sent to a seperate app.

Thanks! but upon reading the reviews, a lot of complaints about it draining the battery though.

You can add gmail as the mail provider but I don't think it will push though. You can setup when it should sync though.

I have my yahoo an hotmail setup that way, but my other 2 gmail accounts is through the gmail app. It would be nice to be able to remove the gmail app an have it push straight to the htc app though.
I know it is a late reply but i stumble on this one through google search, so maybe others are too.
Solution to get push mail in your htc mail app, is to add gmail account through exchange/active sync. Then you can set it to push as the refresh interval. You don't need the gmail-app anymore.

[app] hotmail?

Anyone found an APP that will work with Hotmail with a Captivate? Stock, tablet and even K-9 don't support it. There must be a decent one out there! Thanks!
No longer sent from my BlackBerry.
I just forward my live account to my gmail.

Stock email app works like a charm with hotmail. I got 2 accounts configured under it and my local provider email also. Never had issues getting hotmail.
If you want to fully managed your hotmail (delete mails on server) then your right default email app on the cappy cannot do it but it can fetch the mail.
EDIT: Tried delete on the server option and it works. Fluke bug probably.
Do a Google search on "Hotmail activesync android" and you should be on your way use stock email to do push Hotmail. server deletion is supported last time I checked.

Correct .. last time i tried it failed miserably.. maybe just a bug or a bad connection.
Haven't tried it personally, but I do use Maildroid for gmail,Yahoo, and my ISP email. All set to push, even free Yahoo.
I used the exchange server for hotmail on my Captivate, worked fine with the stock email. Set it up as exchange, using m.hotmail.com as the server. Your username is your full email address. I don't have a Captivate anymore so I don't know if you need anything else (like port numbers). Google should give you the rest.
Also, if you set it up as exchange you can choose to sync your contacts and calendar with hotmail.

[Q] Setting up a Hotmail account

Hello.
I've never done this before and could use some help. In the E-mail app that is in the phone from teh start you can choose "Microsoft exchange" or "Other".
Should I choose Exchange when setting up a Hotmail account?
I'm not really sure what Exchange is so I just wanted to be sure before I try it.
Thank you in advance.
Choose other for setting up hotmail, I don't even think it is possible to use exchange for setting up a hotmail

Exchange is what is typically used in office enviroments. If you dont have any joy setting up hotmail in the email client, there is an official hotmail app in the google play store.

I used exchange for setting up a hotmail account, but it will not keep incoming mails for long (only for 1-2 days). Maybe some setting is wrong with my set up.

Push Email App

Hello members!
Please suggest a good Push Email App for OB, my official domain isn't Push enabled, & only "Emoze Push Mail" gives the Push function for my official emails, but it has a problem in syncing, it unreads all the mail everytime it syncs.
Samsung has the native email app that works good for my domain.
Can someone help.
PS - We are not using Google Apps.
