[q] How to remove Google and Google+ - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have one question about Google and Google+. How to remove the files in our custom rom before flashing the rom? Ya, we can delete it using root explorer but I love to know which apk/files contain the twos apks. Thank's.

Google+ isn't necessarily an apk in the gapps package so google+ won't be there in the custom ROMs and I'm not sure if Google Now is a thing that can be removed as it is an exclusive feature of Android 4.1+ . Not sure though. :|

afair Google Now gets active only after you log in to your Google account from Google Search, logging get out brings the Search back

He wants to disable google search, i don't see any way to do that except not flashing gapps at all which isn't desirable. I'd be glad if you can help him disable google search if possible.

If it is a TW ROM then just pull the apk's out of system/preload...

I guess it all depends on the ROM - I have two different devices, on one the Search is a system app (system/app/Velvet.apk), on other it was installed via Play market (data/app/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.apk).
Generally if the apk resides in zip file, it can be removed before flashing (I usually clean ROMs from all apps I don't need on my PC using WinRar), the only problem could be finding name of the apk file to remove.

Yes you're right, the name of the app is where the problem resides as I did check the frameworks folder of the ROM. It's ROM specific isn't it, and tampering with an app like google search can surely cause some unforeseen errors too. I don't see any reason why google search has become such an undesirable app for the poster!

Not sure how it works for stock-based ROMs, on my N7000 I have Slimbean, which comes without Search - it can be installed from the Market separately if someone needs it
Sent from my GT-N5100 using xda premium

Slimbean has gapps of its own, customised for the ROM which are available on their site. The gapps on goo.im which are prescribed by some other ROMs come with the feature of google-search.

in this case it should be enough to remove "QuickSearchBox.apk" from the zip file before flashing

This removes Google search altogether or just the search box on the home screens which cannot be gotten away from the settings options in certain ROMs?

Not sure, the search box may be a separate widget, you could check with Root App Delete (enables/disables system apps)

I had google now and google plus and google maps deleted from system and installed as a normal app. Hibernated with greenify. App stays closed unless i start it myself.
Hope this way helps. So far i have no problem starting, using and hibernating these 3 apps.
Running on DXLSE deodexed rooted with philz kernel.

Thank you for all informations. It is PlusOne.apk for the Google+ and Messenger+ too. I left the Google Search for future need. Thank's a lot. :good::good::good:

FYI, Google market is based on a carriers, phones and countries that you were residing at. So, some of the google apps is not available for certain countries.
As a solution, we need to download the 'missing' apps manually rather than through our phone/tablet.
There's a lot of site offering these kind of apk.
This site here offer complete list of google apps with periodically update..
or just flash this gapps-gb-full-20110815-signed.zip

Is it possible to have Android ROM of MS or yahoo apps?

I have tried more than 30+ ROM's so far. However I always wonder if it is possible to have a ROM without any google apps in it? Just to try, I installed CM7.2 from Cyanogenmod website and didnot flash the google apps patch. Instead I used EMail exchange app and configure new outlook address which fetch all my hotmail/outlook emails, calendar and contacts to the phone. I configure the F-Droid Repository the repo is very very small and has very limited apps. However with this option I was able to run a CM7.2 without any google apps. However I have always faced poor battery with CM7.2 as compared to the stock based ROM's. Has anyone tried something like this with Yahoo? I managed to install Whatsapp apk from their website but lot's of apps are not available on F-Droid repo.
Last option to the market is to install only google play and by going into settings accounts and sync disable google contacts, picasa, calendar sync. You can install Skydrive and Lync for corporate chat. However bing search app was not possible to install on ACE in india.
However I would really love to see a ROM that actually runs with either microsoft or yahoo apps (search, calendar, contacts, email) and without any google apps.
You can delete google apps yourself.
Download ROM.zip
Go to /system/app
Delete any undesired app.
You can also add your own apps so you don't have to add them everytime you flash it. Although im not sure about last part.
Or simply install ROM and with root explorer delete them.

What is the location of apps that gets installed on SDCard?
Also there are tones of ROM's getting released with same Cyanogenmod with different themes, kernels and added scripts. I 'd rather prefer to see a ROM which goes out of the way and removes google and keeps yahoo or microsoft! Also a there could be a ROM that is not CM based but has been build up from android sources!

Also, why would you want Microsoft apps. Android is owned by Google, and without Google Apps, it defeats the object of having an Android device. Android is designed around the Google ecosystem.
We could have AOSP, but it has lots of bugs, so it's easier to use CM.

[Q] What am I supposed to have with a fresh install of CM9 nightly w/4-29-12 Gapps?

I installed the latest nightly from last night (CM9 12-12-12), the Gapps package from 4-29-12, and the Gapps fixer. I have things like Play store, GTalk, and Voice Dialer, bot no GMail, Maps, Youtube, etc. Am I supposed to have those too? I keep searching and it's not easy to find a list that I know specifically pertains to the TouchPad's CM9 implementation.

But download what, exactly? I'm only thinking of those off the top of my head but I know that there are a lot more. The problem is, I need a list if I'm going to do that as a work-around and so that's partially what I'm asking for (that or help getting the Gapps package to install completely). The Gapps fix does nothing no matter what I wipe or what order I flash.
I checked with my brother and he did not download those from the market/Play store on his touchpad. Neither did I, and I was the one who put Goo manager on it. I'm trying to set this up for a coworker with all the apps as if it were the first time ever turned on and I don't want my account loaded on it.
I already knew I could download individual apps from the market. Thanks for your help though.

Those apps aren't included in the ics gapps. If you open up the zip file and look in the /system/app folder you'll see what apks are included in the gapps package.

i have cm9 (latest nightlys) and cm10 (latest nightlys) .. IIRC they both are 1212 builds..
for cm9 i had to install 0429 gapps..
for cm10 i used the JB gapps but i dont exactly remr the build date or name..
good probabilities that it was 4.1
im pretty sure that both roms require separate installs of gapps..because no gapps are built in

I dont get what you are looking for. If you have the Play store and were able to sign into your account then you have everything the Gapps offer. Gapps are mainly Google services that let you sign into your Gmail account, sync your Gmail account, Use the Play store, etc. There are some apps within the Gapps file which are system apps but like others have said, everything else you mentioned is in the play store. Gapps don't include those apps.

Minimalistic Google Apps Package for 4.3

For those of you who like to start up their ROMs with as little bloat as possible, I have put together a CWM Flashable zip for only the necessary Google Apps. It only has Google Play Store and Sync, no extra apps. This way you'll only have the ones your ROM came with and then a separate package for the bare essentials.
Download Here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3QWu_ypQYPwb2RseThaN3F0Mk0/edit?usp=sharing
Just go to the "File" tab in the upper left and hit download at the bottom of the pop-up menu.
I have confirmed it working by test flashing on 4.3 ROMs such as the latest CyanogenMod.
Edit: Also works on 4.3.1

If you're trying to save space with this rather than just getting rid of apps you don't use, an alternative is the AOSPA GAPPS because they are all installed as system apps, unlike some other GAPPS. System apps are on a separate partition than user data/apps, so it doesn't waste any space you would have otherwise used.

AOSP apps remover v1.2 | Android 7.x | 11/08/16

Disclaimer: I am not responsible for bricked devices or other issues.
For all of you who likes clean ROM and hate duplication between system and user apps folders this tool will help. This will remove all defaults AOSP apps except launcher and keyboard. I suggest after removing to install pico version of gapps or all of this will not make much sense. Also boot animation will be gone, trim it to the bone
For everything else you may need use Play Store. This way upgrading existing apps will not make any duplicates.
Please don't hesitate to post if you like to see some more apps to be included in this remover.
V1.2 11/08/16
Added Development app
Thanks! It would be great to see this in an AROMA format where the user could select which apps to remove.
thank you so much , i was looking for this i hate aosp/cm ****ty apps alaways replace it with google apps

I've noticed this too on my Nexus 6 regardless of ROM- Google Camera does not show up in the PlayStore. Like others have mentioned if you sideload the apk from somewhere like apkmirror it will work. Alternatively you can try clicking on this direct link from your Nexus 6 and it should hopefully take you to the play store with google camera displayed- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.GoogleCamera

I ran this while doing a clean install of Pure Nexus. Zips flashed in TWRP in this order: 1) Pure Nexus, 2) Full GAPPS (linked from Pure Nexus), 3) B14CKB1RD kernel, 4) phh's superuser, 4) 320 dpi, 5) AOSP apps remover. Google camera was available on first boot. ?
Two possible AOSP app oversights: AOSP keyboard (risky, I get it), and AOSP spell check (part of keyboard app?).
No problems experienced after booting into ROM and getting everything setup to taste. This is now a go-to/must have flash for me. Thanks!

Yeah, on 7.1.1 right now. The Pure Nexus FAQ clued me into these flashables. Adjusting the display size may confuse the DPI change, but a reflash of the DPI zip fixed it for me in 7.0 (and I haven't messed with it in 7.1.1).

Go into settings/apps then click on the cog in upper right corner. Now set your current diaper app as default for phone. This should fix your problem.
any chances to do a flashable zip that could work in all devices?
