[Q] Installing gaaps from within Android? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Finally got my Sprint CDMA Gtab with broken internal Sd working on CM10.1. However I can't get the gapps package install and I don't have a working clkworkmod recovery ... It always gets clobbered.
Is there an easy way to install gapps from within Android?

Cm10.1 kernel definitely contains a cwm recovery.
How is yours without one?
Gapps is a pack of apk and files.
Read the updater-script in its META-INF folder and you can do exactly like what the script does, manually.

This is one of those CDMA Gtabs with the busted internal SD so all the partition assignments are screwy. The ROM I've had most luck with is the CM10.1 with the Humberos? Kernel... Don't know if it contains CWM. Every time I flash in the ROM it wipes CWM but if I reinstall CWM then the ROM doesn't boot so right now they are mutual exclusive.
Trying to install a gapp apk file with FileManager doesn't work... It gets going but then says install failed... I presume the partitioning is screwing it up.... Gave it perms and made /system rw, still no go.
Anyways I just reinstalled the whole thing, oddly I have to flash another CM10 ROM first with CWM (which doesn't boot) then follow it with the 10.1 ROM but this time I also did the gapps. Now everything is 'fine' although I still don't have CWM...
UPDATE: I see that others are finding their recovery clobbered with this Rom...

[Q] Installing CWM 3.0.1.0 to emmc?

Have NC rooted (thecube Monster Root) w/eclair. Want to install new CWM to eMMC but have yet to find thread on this. Anyone seen such a thread?
Well the way I did it was I got Rom Manager from the market, then hit the flash clockwork option. My B&N software version before I rooted was 1.1 so I had to update CWM to 3.0.1 so that it would actually work right, there's a thread in the development section if you need to do that too. I don't know if this is the quickest or best way to get it done, but it worked for me.
Read the threads on CWM 3.x...
It doesn't install correctly from ROM Manager, and if you do it that way it won't work correctly when making and restoring ext4 backups (big blue text in the link below).

Yes, specifically, you need a microSD card, but it is easy after that. From the thread referenced above:
Yes it can and it just took the right man to create the update.zip that updates CWM. Thanks to MrMuffin there is one now.
cwmr_3.0.1.0.zip - md5: d7a550d683e54732bcb55eff24ada704
Place onto your sdcard and flash like you would a rom and reboot back into recovery! Please give MrMuffin thanks if you find this useful!
Worked for me first time.

(Q) Unsigned zips/zipthemer/open recovery

So...this question comes from a theming question...but the big question overall is about installing unsigned zips
I have a telus milestone, rooted, with open recovery (via update.zip on the sd card) with cyanogenmod 7.
I found a nice thread on xda about installing cm themes (the minimalist themes..for anyone that cares, hehe) via metamorph and zipthemer
I was advised that zipthemer is the best bet to install the themes since metamorph causes FC's and errors with certain apk's being modified..
So I run zipthemer and get the .zip all ready to be installed/flashed
Here lies the problem...I get to the step to install the zip...it asks me to choose the "install zip from sd card" option from the recovery menu and choose the zip
I don't have that option
I look around and some forums suggest that flashing the cwm/rom manager recovery would give me that option
so i do that...but when i click on reboot to recovery..i see the recovery screen for half a second, then it reboots and reboots back into normal recovery.
ROM manager still says i have cwm recovery flashed
I tried going into recovery, applying update.zip for open recovery (1.46) and that works without a problem..I just don't have an option to apply a unsigned zip (i can apply a zip through the update folder in openrecovery, but it won't let me install the themes)
I also downloaded the milestone cwm zip file from the website and renamed it update.zip and tried to run that....that didn't work either
so basically...what am i missing to get that install zip from sd card option? how do i install unsigned zip files?
and failing that, how can i install that theme zip file?
thanks!
I might be wrong, but I heard that clockwork mod recovery doesn't work on Moto Milestone, I think it has to do with the blocked bootloader, but again I might be wrong...
It would make sense and that is what I assumed...
Also the reason why I don't use rom manager to install roms..can't wait for moto to implement their non locked bootloader policy on all their phones
I hope they do so soon, but I doubt that they will release our bootloaders, they will likely unlocked their newest models as they care about money more than the happiness of customers, and they clearly should care about both, but I guess a little hope wouldn't hurt

Dude, i'm not sure if ziptheme also signs the file... if not, DL from market an APP called ZIPSIGNER. After generate your zip file with zipthemer, run the zipsigner on your file then flash it normally.

wisefreakz - thanks for the suggestion
i'm thinking that would work
however, i found a way around my problem...i manually edited the problem causing the FC on metamorph in the patched xml file and everything works like a charm...
thanks for the help though
Cool... let us know!!!

milestone overclock good
FYI, for future reference, ZipThemer does produce signed zip files by default. The app was created by the same author as ZipSigner, and they use the same code to sign files.

Try adding the libaudio.so to your ROM.zip (with 7-zip or WinRAR) at the right directory and flash the ROM.zip again. That's what I am doing everytime I change something

Unzip the cwm with the fix and navigate to "system/lib" and copy the "libaudio.so".
then open the rom zip navigate to "system/lib" and paste the "libaudio.so" there.
Didn't understand your previous post..did you make a backup or not?
If not...just flash your current rom again, you won't lose your data if you do this.
Only the files that you edited in /system like gps.conf or other tweaks you have to edit again.
Tried on UD3.3.0 wont boot... :s
People dont understand that this work the best on CM7 nexus roms.
That by installing this fix on CM7 or AOSP you will probaly lose the robo and high volume on first call fix. That most roms have custom libs including this lib. Minimum requirements I would say CM7 2.34 and AOSP 2.34 since cm7 and AOSP are the most equal roms to each other.
To say it simple you cant just simply flash this on every rom also make sure your permission is right.
Is this fix able to work on an HTC Desire running 2.3.4 Oxygen ROM?

If you have a nandroid backup, you should be on the safe side!
Try to wipe cache partition first, then the dalvik cache and then flash the zip-file.
All of these actions take place in the CWM.
Hope it works!
The libaudio.so fix was submitted to gerrit (Change I24a4a11b: Fix for a1026 suspend)by Jordon aka Jyxent. It was mergered with the latest nightlies, and should be merged with CM 7.0.4

Yes, that fix works fine. I'm not sure it fixes the few seconds delay that affects all Gingerbread phones though but there was another potential workaround submitted for that too.
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,5420
I have yet to include it in my build and try it though.
The story on the front page links to the wrong fix. The libaudio fix was for the wonk on the Nexus One. The libaudio library is hardware specific and may cause issues on other devices that don't share the same processor.
I've submitted a patch to gerrit that helps with the call delay here:
http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,5420
Thank you for clearing that up jyxent. To go into a bit more detail...
The fix that was posted, as jyxent mentioned, is for the Nexus One. That is for the infamous "wonk" that has been plaguing N1 users since the Gingerbread nightlies started (who woulda thunk it was just a single line that needed to be added).
The 2-3 second delay is something that affects most (if not all) Gingerbread installs. Currently there isn't a simple "fix" for this. It requires recompiling portions of Gingerbread. jyxent's fix is submitted to CM, but I don't see any reason why this can't be applied to AOSP as well. It has yet to be reviewed by the CM dev team (at least it doesn't have any comments on it yet). It might be something that can be made into some device-independent flashable zip, but it has yet to be created.

Can this be done manually with root explorer, by copying the libaudio.so to/system/lib and a reboot?

Messed up phone after trying to flash

I downloaded cog from rom manager than tried to install it. I remember from flashing rom on my other phone that I had to select reinstall packages a few times. Nothing really changed. I rebooted then went back to rom manager and clicked install rom from sd (not sure if that's exaclty how its worded) I saw the rom but backed out. I booted back into recovery and selected format sd, I'm guessing I shouldn't have done that, now I'm getting a signature error in cwm, also when I select download rom from sd in rom manager I no longer see my download folder. Help please, not sure if any of this make sence.

A little hard to follow, but I would just flash back to stock and go and download CM and place it on your root sd card and just flash through CWM.

I am stock, nothing flashed. The problem I'm having is after I selected format sd card in rom manager (not sure why I did that) I now no longer have a download folder, in other words, if I open root exploror and try and fine my download folder I wont because its not there.

Just download CM from the DEV section and place it on the root of your sd card. Then power off your phone and 3 button combo into cwm and flash that way.
Cwm tells me when I try and install anything that- E: failed to open /mnt/internal_sd/update.zip (no such file or directory)
E: Signature verification failed, installation aborted. This is the exact message I get in cwm

How are you trying to install via cwm? Are you selecting the zip file or just clicked install update.zip? Just asking to make sure your doing it the right way.
Ffs it's the blind leading leading the blind.
Op you can't see the folder anymore because format means WIPE so your sdcard is empty now.
And 2 the signature error isn't because if that it's because you are on stock froyo which requires signed update zips. To get around this look here for the 3e recovery thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161102

At first I downloaded the rom from one of the dev pages, I than checked root explore/sdcard/download to make sure it downloaded fine, which it did. I than went to rom manager and booted into recovery, but I didn't see anything about installing from sdcard (which is what I see on my infuse) all I see is reboot, reinstall packages, delete all user data, delete cache data, and format internal sdcard. I selected reinstall packages because when I flashed my first rom on my infuse this step was required. Nothing happeded afterwards but the install didn't error out like its doing now. After nothing changed I than went back to rom manager and went to download rom, found the rom I wanted, selected download. After it downloaded I got an install prompt.I selected wipe data and cache (again, my infuse required this step) after that nothing seemed to change. I went back to rom manage and noticed a section that says install rom from sdcard, I opened that and say a download folder, opened the folder and saw the rom but I back out because I wasn't too sure about that process. I booted back into recovery and for some.dumb reason I clicked format internal and external sdcard. Now I'm getting this error message, and I have no downloads.

Installing CM10

First time boys. I've rooted my phone and have Superuser installed and Rom Manager. I'm running V20S patched. Question is how to install CM nightly's latest and how to get back to V20 if things screw up. TIA
First make nandroid backup of ur existing ROM .....I think U know about it, if not (reboot into ClockworkMod>Advanced>Nandroid backup)
Now installing CM10:
Download the latest nightly of CM10 and download the gapps from cyanogenmod official site and place them both zip files in root of SD card (not in any folder)
Now reboot ur phone into ClockworkMod; do factory reset; do wipe cache; and do dalvik cache (dalvik cache in advanced options)
1. Now come back and select the option Choose the zip from SD card>Select the zip
Now select the nightly zip file and press YES to install....
After installing again follow the point 1. and choose the zip file of gapps to install
After finishing reboot the phone...
CM10 installed... (From the next time, use CM updater option in About phone options for easy installation of every nightly without wipes)

One more for ya. Is there a big difference between Nightly's latest version and this one cm-10-20121011-EXPERIMENTAL-p970-M2?
Yes somewhat big difference...M2 experimental is more stable without bugs
And every latest nightly include latest features,
If you want to know what the changes on every nightly..go here > (http://changelog.bbqdroid.org/#p970/cm10/1348746167)
Install nightly every week or twice weekly, not daily......it's better than trying every nightly
Try to know about CM updater, then u don't need to do all wipes..
there is easy process for that...Just download the nightly and put the zip file in CM updater folder of SD card (SD card/CM updater)
then go to Settings>About phone>CyanogenMod updates>zip file that you downloaded, (observe the date)

In latest nightly that does not work, how that will work in M2 ...stable mean you can use that nightly without lags
Actually nightlies release intended for knowing bugs
caller ID problem is only for some people, so it may work for you.
Until the option you can go into ClockworkMod, you can get back to any ROM
If you have problem in middle of ClockworkMod, you can just restore the ROM from Nandroid backup that is in Advanced option
If you get bootloop, you should have to flash the V20S patch again..

md5 hashes and file sizes of stuff change even when bbqdroid shows no change to it. CM10 as a whole is still being developed and as far as I can tell changes on the main branch don't show up on a device specific changelog. Correct me if I'm wrong.
