Hello, I have an HTC Desire C, Fido. I have unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM recovery. The problem I have is no rom I have flashed has successfully booted. It seems I have to turn S off. I have seen methods to do so but not on my Hboot version.
Is it possible to turn S off on Hboot 1.28?
There is no S-OFF on our phone.
boot.img have to be flashed via fastboot
S off doesn't affect ROMs at all, you must be doing something wrong
I have been flashing the boot.img that comes with the rom I got, Nameless 7.4 build1. Here are the steps I take. First wipe all data though recovery, then flash boot.img, then flash .zip. Upon first boot, there is either a boot loop or boot's to a point of "optimizing applications" then restarts.
What is the best rom for use in Canada? I just installed Nameless 7.4 but it freezes and the first HTC splash screen. I dont want stock.

Hi,
I do have a Desire C from Virgin Canada.
I have tried other custom roms - nameless and revolutionmod. Revolutuionmod is better, but I found it unstable. Dont know if the instability came from the rom itself or the kernel.
After a lot a search I found the best option, for now, to return to the stock rom.
I have removed all the junk (with titanium backup) and the phone runs fast and smooth, with quite good battery life.
Suggestions/warnings:
- apply the ota update, if any quickly and BACKUP your working rom; if you modify the rom, or the recovery, you will not be able to install the ota update
- if ever you'd like to go back to stock rom after mdifying rom/recovery, this would be not possible for now because there is not any canadian stock rom for desire c
- if you install any custom rom, the odds are that the wi-fi will not work; you have the flash a custom kernel, such as prometheus kernel from nikhil, to make wi-fi functionnal.
Sense based ROMs will have WiFi with stock kernel, cm based ones won't even boot with a stock or sense kernel.

I personally hate sense so I went with revolution senseless rom 3.5 because wifi was borked in most others but the amazing devs found a fix for it so you might want to wait for all the patches to get applied to the roms to get wifi working before you make your choice. I also experienced some difficulty when I first rooted a desire c and you're having the same difficulties it seems. My problem was in the kernel. Eventually I just flashed completely stock everything with no mods tweaks or anything special and and booted right up. Try not to do anything fancy till you get the hang things
Let me know I you're having further troubles and I would be glad to help you!

For me wi-fi didnt work. Once I flashed nameless rom, then no stock kernel returned the wi-fi back, even if I restored the stock rome backupd earlier. Flashing prometheus kernel brings wi-fi, regardless of the rom (nameless, revolutionmod, stock).
If I flash a stock rom, with its stock kernel, then wi-fi works.
well fwiw i am in canada and had no issue at all with desense rom,and just flashed the cm10 rom yesterday and lovin it!!

I'm running ARHD 11.0 which is a 4.2.2 ROM. I want to go to a 4.1.2 ROM to I can run a 4.1.2 kernel. Is this just as simple as flashing a 4.1.2 ROM from recovery?
You have to wipe your phone when going from 4.2.2 to 4.1.2. If you want to keep everything, just get SuperBackup or Titanium Backup and back everything up.
Thanks. I don't mind wiping my phone. I just want to know if it's straight for to go from newer ROM to older ROM.

No problem It is always better to wipe anyways going from a ROM to a different one just to make sure you don't get any errors and bugs.
Just to make sure I'm in the right page...the ROM comes with the kernel, right?

You can either install a custom ROM based on 4.1.2 (which most likely means you'll have to find an older version of a current custom ROM, like Android Revolution HD 9.x or TrickDroid 6.x) or you can download and install a RUU which will basically wipe your device and install the official, stock 4.1.2 for it which you can then root and install a kernel to.
if he just wipe data, and flash from 4.2.2. to 4.1.2, he can get the 0 folder in his internal memory (and just move everything?), can't he?
well I remember to have a little problem with my s3 when i did that, but you can try... if you have problems wipe everything including internal sd and flash again... (but of course you may need to flash thru sideload or OTG)
AND YES, the rom comes with the kernel, if you come from a HOX (for example) you dont need to flash the kernel manually, as was needed in the HOX
Thanks guys! Will try that

Hello everyone,
Yesterday I decided to flash an updated ROM of 4.3 to my One. After flashing it (happens with new ROM, or after flashing a new custom kernel... logo2menu, you know), a message appears ALWAYS on-screen:
com.phone.android has stopped working
This message repeats a hundred times. I can't type anything without the message popping up. I reached the launcher, but I have no Phone signal and the WiFi is not working. It's like the phone wants to wake up the Phone Antenna but it crashes to do it.
I've read that I had to flash the boot.img from the ROM I wish to flash, and I don't know if that causes the problem...
Any help would be perfect.
Thank you in advance.

SOLVED!
Well, after my vacation, took my One and did a bit of research. I know everything about this problem now.
The problem is only in GE ROMS. Why? 4.3 GE hasn't listed my MVNO yet (known error by Android and by 'Pepephone'). So, as soon the mobile goes on, Android tries to connect to the SIM, but as it's not listed amongst the companies, the phone crashes. I had to flash a file with the APN, then add it manually. Ta-Da! It works.
Attached the ZIP file to flash in Recovery.
- Install 4.3 GE Rom.
- Flash the Fix.
- Start and complete the Install Wizard.
- Inside the APN config, manually introduce Pepephone's APN

Sorry to bump the thread, but currently I have a HTC One with no phone and it's really important for me to solve this asap. I'm going on vacation tomorrow and I need my phone

Are you using a custom kernel that matches, exactly, the 4.3 custom rom you are using? If it is a GE 4.3 based rom, you need a GE 4.3 custom kernel (check out ElementalX). If it is a Sense 4.3 base rom, well that update just came out yesterday and there are no custom kernels for it yet.

It happens with EVERY 4.3 GE Rom, stock kernel. I was in 4.2.2 GE (Android Revolution) and Installed 4.3 and gave me that error all the time without upgrading the Kernel... I'm pretty lost.

It sounds like there is an incompatibility with the new base. I would reflash the rom, doing a full wipe in the process

Full wipe means to wipe/factory reset in ClockWork Recovery before flashing? I already did that like dozen times, but still, same error I don't know why I'm the only one with this problem...

The Roms I've used have an option for full wipe during the install in Aroma, but I guess doing it in CWM does the same thing. Are you theming the phone app by any chance? Something isn't playing nice with the 4.3 base, that's what you have to track down. Maybe go back to 4.2 while you sort it out

Yup, did it inside the installer and outside it, but always same result. I'm back now into 4.2.2 Sense AR Rom and the phone works great, but I hate Sense.
Could it be the baseband firmware?

Firmware could be the case, was just thinking that.
My advice tho, you have a working phone, and with your vacation tomorrow, I would leave it as is for now

I have the exact same problem. I've literally tried everything. I have S-Off-ed my phone and installed a custom kernel but even that does not fix the problem. All custom 4.3 Google Edition Roms crash after I install them. It works fine if I use the Stock 4.3 ROM.

A little update. I've got Cyanogen 10.2 working perfectly in my phone. It's running 4.3, so now, I understand even less. Why CM works and the other ROMs doesn't?
The night is long... Hahah.
CM 10.2 works flawlessly "without" bugs. I don't understand why CM 10.2 (JB 4.3) works and the other 4.3 GE does not. Something is not right, or maybe I'm missing some step, but it's really strange...

If you simply need a working phone, return to stock for your vacation, and then start from scratch re-flashing the GE firmware, kernels and rom. If anything is sense on the phone, incompatibility issues will happen.

Finally found a solution to the crash. It was related to a weird combination between GE 4.3 and my mobile network operator, Pepephone. Known bug by Android and Pepephone.
Solution at the first post.
Recently I have been facing 4 problems
1.Intermittent phone restart mainly while using Firefox browser
2.Poor battery life, need to charge twice a day
3.Phone becomes unresponsive,hangs
4.Cannot do video recording,be it on internal storage or even class 10 SD card with even low resolution ,the phone hangs.
The problems may get solved by factory resetting, but these things had happened before also when on gingerbread and factory reset helped, which means every six months I need to reset the phone. So I was planning to
1.Update or change to better Kernel, maybe might prevent phone restart problems
2.Install permanent custom recovery, so as to backup and be able to restore stock JB ROM
3.Update to Custom ROM running KitKat
I request help on
a.Procedure needed for backup and restore stock kernel, in case anything goes wrong
b.Recommended Kernel
c.Best stable KITKAT ROM(preferably 4.4.4) with least non working functions/features
Is it advisable to update to Kitkat?
What is the effect of increase in binary count? Is there a maximum count after which up-gradation is prevented?
My phone is rooted and out of warranty period.
Please Help

a) Install "Universal Kernel Flasher" to backup Stockkernel or extract boot.img from your Stock Rom file.
b) If you want to use stock rom or a stock based rom, go for CoCore kernel.
c) There is a best rom thread. Just have a look.
I prefer vanir, paranoid and slimkat. Sadly, development of slimkat has stopped, but paranoid gets still updates and vanir is an offical rom with OTA updates. So the choice is yours
I like kitkat and it will not increase your binary counter.
If I flash CoCore Kernel will I be able to flash any of the custom Kitkat roms or there will be a limitation?

There is no limitations. Just on some you might need to flash its kernel first, by extracting kernel from ROM zip and installing it with Universal kernel flasher. Read ROMs thread (the one you want to install), it should be talking about it there.
One final question, I saved the stock kernel.bin file using Universal kernel flasher. How do I create a flashable zip file incase I custom kernel creates problem and phone refuses to boot

You can use the Android flashable zip creator. But do not flash stock kernel to a non stock based rom. If you need to go back to stock, use odin and flash stock rom.

I have just recently restarted using this phone due to my uscellular S4 getting turned off. I am now back on my LG-P990 currently rooted and running CM10.1. BUT most importantly to me is the fact that I have all my wonderful apps on my s4, I want to be able to use them by using the LG phone as a tether and calls not much else BUT CM10.1 tethering does not work, so i find myself flashing rom after rom, avatar rom, older CM mods, none would turn on tethering, so i flashed a modded version of MIUI for this phone and it worked except for ONE thing no signal, tethering turned on just fine so i decided to look around for other roms and found Slimrom TRYED to flash it didnt work, try to flash actual MIUI roms off there site, didnt work, met with an error in CWM Recovery after some searching I found its because Im running the OLD Bootloader -_- THIS is the issue im having IF MIUI does NOT work is it possible to downgrade the bootloader again so i can restore my CM10.1 backup? I have been working at this for a week, if there is something here about this can someone please just point me at it? I would appreciate any help.
On a side note i DID soft brick the phone the other day and found a program called nvflash witch flashed an install of CM mod. Dont know if that will help any.

I really do not understand how other ROMs deny Tethering. Did you flash the latest 2.x kernel by pengus77 after installing the rom? Did you make a clean install(wipe everything then install)? On the other hand, yes you can switch bootloaders as much as you like, just remember that changing the bootloader wipes everything on your internal memory, so do a backup. Did you try just plain old stock 4.0.4? Should work there. Ask anything you want, if you're still having questions.

As to the flashing to stock i lost the original rom backup i had made along time ago and cant find the original firmware anywhere online. When I flashed CM 10.1 I just ran with it, when i go to try tethering it says "Turning on portable wifi hotspot." and it stays on that no matter what untill i restart, left the phone running for 2 days once and that was still stuck on that before i restarted. As for flashing a 2.x kernel i had no idea about that. But yes when i did the installs i would do a clean wipe and install. Most of what i read online led me to believe that there was an error with CM 10.1 nightlys that was not being fixed for the tethering. So that is why i decided to go to another rom. Two questions one how do i go about finding the original firmware for this phone and two how would i go about updating or downgrading the bootloaders and could i be pointed to the files please?

Okay, This is SFSP by @sgspluss which is a pretty fast, stable and battery-friendly slimmed down version of stock ICS. It is available for both Old and NewBL, so you might want to try that first. This is AIO Toolkit. I know that you've used it and bricked your phone, but try again, and for the love of God install the nvflash drivers because most people skip that part. You have to do it manually and if you're running Windows 8 you need to disable Driver Signature Verification. But yeah, you switch bootloaders with this.
I have a HTC Desire 510, network unlocked and from the uk, therefore it is a 64bit version, I couldn't find a possible way to root my phone until I came across a kernel that was already rooted, after flashing the kernel and gathering root access I decided to flash a custom recovery, phils touch recovery. Soon after rooting and flashing my phone started to develop some problems, my data allowance is getting eaten super fast and I can't resolve this problem, when getting in touch to ask for a stock kernel from HTC they knocked me back.
Does anyone have a stock recovery for the HTC desire 510 64-bit unlocked European ?
Or
Does anyone have a good custom rom that will run on 64-bit European version?
I downloaded the OTA update a whole ago and obviously it wouldn't install because of my custom recovery, I was wondering if someone had an idea if there would be a new kernel in the update I had downloaded? Or if there was a way to install the update through philstouch?
I would much prefer to revert my phone back to stock, stock recovery, stock kernel, stock everything. However a new fresh rom would work better tan I have now. If someone could help me it would be much appreciated?

What kernel did you flash? The only other one I'm aware of right now is the dreamer kernel if you didn't flash that then you can try it..

This is also a main reason we tell everyone to make a complete backup of your current system before ever even flashing anything at all! Take this as a warning folks to simply spend the extra time to make a complete backup of your system!! It will save you in the long run!
