I have the p880g model, I have rooted the phone and tried flashing CWM onto it.
Now, when I try to boot to recovery, I get "ERROR: boot image signation; Critical failure: unable to start kernel"
And when I try to boot regularly, I get stuck on the service provider splash screen (WIND Mobile).
Is there any tool I can use to get out of this? I had USB debugging enabled before this all went downhill

have you unlocked your kernel before you tried flashing cwm?

Do you mean unlocking the bootloader? No I didn't, I found out after the fact that the p880g can't.
I used this method to root it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
And then just tried using ROM Manager to flash CWM and then I tried rebooting into recovery.
Ah, didnt see that you have canadian version. You need unlocked bootloader to flash cwm trough rom manager afaik. What you can do to fix your issue, is reflash kdz file. There is a guide somewhere on the forum.

So it is fixable? I'm not exactly sure what a kdz file is, would you be able to point me to the guide? I'm also worried my phone won't be able to do it because I was on V09b development software, not whatever the release stuff was.
I had this same problem with my P880g, back before I realized CWM doesn't work with that model. I fixed it by re-flashing the V10C KDZ to my phone. However, it was already running V10C, so I don't know how yours will be affected.
The thread on how to flash a KDZ is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069723
Flash the kdz file with the kdz flash tool and put mode on emergency
NOT emergency cs that wont do anything

I was trying to flash a custom rom because I didn't like the att customized rom. I unlocked the bootloader thru htcdev.com and I used the All-In-One toolkit to flash CWM. Everything was fine and I was able to enter CWM. However, after I flashed the Android Revolution HD 6.0 rom, it just stucked at HTC screen. I am trying to enter the recovery and reflash the rom, but I cannot enter CWM anymore. It just disappeared and reboot. I can enter the bootloader. I tried to reflash CWM, but same thing happened. Please help :crying:

Happened to me too, I finally got into CWM again after locking my bootloader, unlocking it again. Still can't get it to boot, nor Sideload a ROM from ADB. :/

The good news is, if your phone powers on, you haven't "bricked" anything.
The bad news is, it sounds like you didn't back up your stock ROM and there's something hinky in how you flashed CWM the second time.
The better news is that you can restore the stock recovery image, and using that, you can reflash the stock ROM. This will put you back at square one, but rest assured that if you can power on your device, and you can get to fastboot, you haven't "bricked" anything.

Don't fastboot flash the recovery. fastboot boot the recovery image. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the good news! May I ask that where I can download the att stock rom and the stock recovery image? I can only find the european and asia version. Thanks
Did you happen to flash the correct boot.img that should have been supplied with the Rom? If not you have to flash it as well.
hello,
i recently updated to the official ICS for o2x, and now i wanted to flash a custom ROM again.
so i tried with ROM manager to flash CWM, but my device is not listed above in rom manager.
i tried to install manually with nvflash, and this also didnt work, every time i try to flash cwm, it gives me this error:
downloading bootloader -- load address: 0x108000 entry point: 0x108000
sending file: fastboot.bin
/ 1024992/1024992 bytes sent
fastboot.bin sent successfully
waiting for bootloader to initialize
bootloader downloaded successfully
failed executing command 14 NvError 0x120000
command failure: partition download failed
anybody has any idea how to fix this, and flash CWM?
additional info: im on the new ics layout, my bootloader is unlocked, i have root, USB debugging was on, and i have the correct APX drivers.

Then you must be doing something wrong.... May be flashing something meant for old bootloader to the new bootloader ..... Bootloop at what point ??? Are you able to enter recovery ??? AIO Toolkit is a proven solution working for all P990's.... Also, which Custom ROM do you want to flash and for which bootloader, old or new?????

Hi guys, my friend just bricked his LG Optimus black, by trying to reach recovery mode through Rom manager...
When booting, the security error screen flashes and it turns back off.
I've tried to reach recovery/download mode, by trying several button combinations found on the internet, but none of them seems to work, I get the same security error screen (even when the phone is connected to PC).
Can you guys please help, I have zero experience with this phone
Your friend's phone shows security error because he flashed recovery while he was running a v30x stock rom.
With the update to official ICS, the bootloader changed and if you want to keep stock ICS with recovery you need to flash an unlocked bootloader following this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2160394.
You could also try using SmartFlash Tool to flash this ROM that already includes a recovery, but, if you flash it, you'll have a gingerbread ROM with an old bootloader and a recovery that can be used to flash CyanogenMod based ROMs.

Thanks, I finally managed to access Download mode and flash stock firmware, and I also flashed the unlocked bootloader, using the exe file...
But I still have a problem...
I still can't access CWM. When pressing the combination in the post you linked, it just shows me a screen, writing recovery mode, and it does nothing.
Didn't the exe file install CWM?
Is it safe to install it with Smart Flash Tool now?
Can you boot to stock ROM? If yes, is his phone rooted?

I can boot to stock ROM, and yeah I rooted it with Unlock Root after installing the unlocked bootloader.
Download terminal emulator from play store, download recovery.img from here and place it in the root of his sdcard.
Open terminal emulator, type su, press enter, type dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p4 and you should have finished! :highfive:

I don't really know what happened, did you successfully flashed kdz?
Where did you get it from? Here?: http://lg-phone-firmware.com/index.php?id_mod=15
Try to flash one of these (choose correct one for you)
Than you have to install recovery again.
But before that you can try to wipe /system, /data, /cache and then flash CM11 (I know it works without problems)
And I recommend you these Gapps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942

I think you should try with CWM first, get it: http://download2.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.5-p880.img
you can flash it with this app if you are rooted: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify
then you can download CM11 from here: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=p880
and gapps from last mine post
and then boot to recovery, do factory reset and wipe /system, then flash rom and gapps.
Hope it helps
Crash After Flash OTA Vanir 5.0
I had a similar experience. I was installing OTA latest update of Vanir...not realising that it was 5.0...a screen came up telling me that it needed to flash another recovery...not realising why it needed that, I ignored the request to flash. Of course, I then "bricked" the phone. I was able to install the original JB 4.12 (v20c) back onto the phone but now it won't root. I've tried almost every method in this forum to no avail.:
ADB just gives a message "error: closing" when I use the boot.exe method
o4xr method does nothing
all-in-one method also does nothing
ADB does recognise the device. Drivers are installed. Any help is welcome!

Have you tried to flash a recovery using fastboot? You won't need to root (if you are going to use a custom ROM) and/or it will be easier with a custom recovery
Soft brick after last update.
Hello,
I seem to have a similar problem. I updated a few days ago using Vanir updater. There were no warnings re updating the recovery, just a warning regarding losing root. I checked restore root. The phone rebooted to the bootloader logo, then to a black screen. Now, I can access Cyanogen recovery, SW update mode, abd fastboot mode using buttons and the recovery options. ADB can see the phone only in recovery mode, but not in fastboot or SW update mode. CM recovery has no option to mount USB storage, so my PC cannot see the phone, and I cannot side load a new recovery and flash a new ROM.
Is there any way to use ADB if it cannot see your phone in fastboot or SW mode? Perhaps modify the settings.secure string to enable ADB? ADB can see the phone in recovery mode.
Otherwise I will try flashing a stock ROM via KDZ or LG firmware update tool, the re-root and proceed - but rooting was a major ordeal the first time, so I would like to avoid doing that again.
Thanks in advance.
Hello everyone,
as a beginner in flashing roms/kernels, I flashed the dt2w (which is present on this forum) on my HTC One Mini 2. When I tried to reboot it, the screen was all blac. You could tell the thing was running, because of the vibration and sounds, but no image at all.
That's why I now need the stock kernel (original one?) and I don't know where to find it, neither if I have saved it somewhere, which I will flash using fastboot/adb.
Thank you

I believe someone has posted the stock boot.img somewhere(I can't seem to find it). You can also take the boot.img from the Stock Rom here
I am doing so right now, but will I be able to do the official upgrades? And is this a ROM or a kernel? Thank you

No , you won't be able to install official updates once you unlock your bootloader. But you can do so manually by flashing it through stock recovery with a relocked one. Just make sure you backup everything in the phone storage if you do it since it is wiped if every time you reunlock the bootloader.

How can I flash an OTA manually?
I've got an OTA (OTA_M8_MINI_UL_K44_SENSE60_Vodafone_CH-DE_2.18.166.2-2.18.166.1_release_448149.zip) but I am not able to install it.
I've already tried flashing a stock kernel (the boot.img from the link you've posted), I've flashed a stock recovery (M8_MINI_UL_Stock_Recovery_2.19.401.2.img) and I've relocked the bootloader.
But when I get the update notification and try to update, the phone goes to the stock recovery and the update proceeds but after about one quarter of the progress bar, it stops and shows the red exclamation mark (!).
I've also tried flashing the kernel and the recovery which are included in the OTA update, but still the same error.
Do you have an idea how I can manage to successfully update?

I managed to do it, but it was a really dirty method. What I did was find the firmware.zip file from the Firmware I got from here, locked the bootloader and then flashed it via the bootloader(renaming it to PXXXIMG.zip, check exact file name before proceeding). Make sure you find the firmware of the OTA, or just get the firmware.zip from it.
This gets messy because it will result in you reunlocking the bootloader(which I assume you probably will) which will in turn wipe the internal storage completely. So backup up the Internal Storage AND your SD card before you proceed.

I've tried what you did. Seemed to update Bootloader, Recovery and Radio.
Then I rebooted, again got the update notification and tried to install it.
Bit still the same error, software update still fails.
