[Q] How to check if the bootloader is unlocked. - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there.
After i unlocked* the bootloader of my phone i got stuck in a bootloop, then i had to flash the TFT all over again...
The problem is that i don't know if the phone is already with bootloader unlocked or not...
how can i check it?
I was thinking on trying to do the unlock steps again, but i'm scared of being trapped on another bootloop...
Is there a way to check if the bootloader is already unlocked?
PS: The bootloader unlock allowed is yes.
thanks you guys.

Flash doom kernel via fastboot with this command:
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
If you get an error than your bootloader is not unlocked.
You can flash back to stock kernel with flashtool, flash the kernel separately.
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium

but if i got that error and confirm that the bootloader is locked, is there any chance to harm the phone? or need to flash the TFT again, etc etc

use flashtool to tell you

Another more easy approach .
When bootloader unlock allowed says yes and be2 is working in Album, then it is still locked and you can start the unlock steps again.

How can i use flashtool to tell me?
@DevShaft
Before i could see in a flash the bravia engine working on pictures. There was a little delay... Now i can't see it.
Probably the bootloader is unlock.
If i try to install Doom's kernel via recovery and the bootloader is LOCKED, can it do any harm? thanks guys

bootloop and u will have to use FTF to fix it.

Thanks man.
I'll wait the new firmware or android 4.2 to see it.

I unlocked my Xperia Z and in Service Mode I can see 'Bootloader unlocked: Yes'.
Now my phone is running on latest C6603 firmware and DooM Kernel.
To my surprise, BE2 still works! Music info download still works! TrackID still works!:victory:

But not picture enhancement in album right? Hope you backed up TA partition before unlocking

im surprised at how this 'check bootloader is unlocked already or not' thread is confusing.
by the previous post, there is two 2 ways
1. try to flash doomlords kernel via fastboot, and if it doesnt flash means its NOT unlocked.
2. flashtool.
however the 2. flashtool method is very vague.. dont think anyone elaborated it.
So my same query is that if some error occurs after trying to unlock bootloader, and have reverted back to the stock FTF rom in original working state.
How do one check to see if my bootloader is unlocked or not?
whats the best easiest method???
Thank you!

just type in *#*#7378423#*#*
Go to Service Info > Configuration
And check the Rooting Status
If its Bootloader unlock allowed:Yes/No, then its not unlocked.
And if its Bootloader unlocked:Yes, then its unlocked.
Thanks

That just tells you weather you can unlock your bootloader via the command / flashtool e.g. If you carrier has locked your phone
On a unlocked bootloader the BE2 engine still works on videos ect just not pictures.
All I would do Is flash doom kernel or advanced stock kernel via flashtool (Click on lightning bolt /fast boot / click on put device in fastboot via adb now phone will enter fastboot then select kernel to flash which is in the middle on the pop up screen and then flash if it will take around 0 . 5 seconds ) if it fails then you bootloader is locked due to it cannot complete the command if is successful then it's unlocked and you can flash custom kernels take about 2 mins to do all in all

Fastboot issues,bootloader (un)locked?

So I've unlocked the bootloader on my xperia Z the official way. Entered the unlock key and it was successful.
However, if I try to write a recovery in fastboot I get the error : Remote: not allowed.
I have made sure I have the correct drivers and all but it still doesn't work. Even tried unlocking it again with a second unlock key.
How can I fix this?

if you have locked bootloader it says it is allowed
if you have unlocked bootloader it says that your bootloader is unlocked
you can check your bootloader by this way , cause your error determines that u have lockbootloader

Unlock bootloader without losing DRM keys
Hey guys
I have a similar problem. I want to flash DoomLord's custom kernel but the command is not allowed. I found out bootloader unlock allowed does not mean it is unlocked yet, so that is the problem why it is not allowed. However, I do want to backup my DRM keys first. Is this possible? My phone was rooted before I flashed 4.3, so it is not rooted anymore.
Oh I have a Xperia Z 4.3 c6603 flashed with the ftf supplied by doomlord.

u welcome!
just checked the screenshot says that BL unlock allowed: status YES which define that ur BL (bootloader) is not unlocked yet!
make sure u are using the appropriate tool that works for ur device after u get the BL code from Sony, then follow the instructions in Sony where u got the information about unlocking BL
first off... do not proceed with bl unlock until you backup your TA partition cuz u might brick ur phone after the unlock is done if something goes wrong!
is it's not really recommended... u can still root it with a locked bl and enjoy ROOT privileges... FYI, unlocking bl will erase DRM keys and might affect on ur TA partition too.... so keep in mind that Bravia Engine2 along with Track ID will stop working after unlocking ur BL
TA Partition backup

so take it on ur own risk as im advising you not going for it!

Need help...!! camera functionality not working after unlocking bootloader

1stly i have 4.4.2 (.757) running on my z1 and i downgraded to .534 and i rooted the device by vroot and backed up the DRM keys successfully.. and then i flashed to .290 and unlocked the bootloader by flashtool and then downgraded to .534 and then installed the dual recovery and then flashed using the flashable recovery using recovery and then i found that camera is not working properly.. camera is opening and when i press the shutter butter its trying to focus the area and after focusing it freezes and doesn't shutter... so this is my problem... please help...
So much fail.
Do not use vroot, it sends your imei number to an ip address in China.
Also, unlocking your bootloader on 4.2 will break your camera, it clearly says so on the Sony official site about unlocking your bootloader.
Now, the solution.
Restore your ta partition.
Use pccompanion to update to the latest firmware
Unlock your bootloader again
Flash a custom kernel of your choice
Install super user app of your choice

I have to ask
Why are you unlocking your bootloader? What have you done it for? You do not get a recovery mode just by unlocking the boot, you have to flash a custom kernel with recovery in it
You either do all the downgrading and install dual recovery if you have a locked bootloader
OR
You unlock your bootloader, flash a custom kernel with recovery and install super user app
there is no need for both approaches and that's why you are getting problems

Why did you unlock the bootloader? What did you want to do with it?
You can not install a recovery without a custom kernel, xperia devices have no recovery partition, it can only be installed by pushing the ramdisks to the system partition or by flashing a custom kernel.
Please follow the advice I gave several posts ago.... that is your solution.
Then spend some time reading up on xperia device flashing.
1) Xperia devices have no factory recovery or recovery partition
2) Unlocking the bootloader is the fastest and easiest method to root and get recovery (If you are allowed to do it)
3) If you cannot or do not want to unlock the bootloader, then go through the downgrade, root, dual recovery process...

Greg said fifteen times - follow his guide for here.
Yoy can't flash custom kernel especially not fastboot custom kernel on locked bootloader.
Whole purpose of unlocking bootloader is to flash custom kernel.
You are confused with all this informations, I would recommend that you read few things here on XDA to understand terms and other things.
You could seriously damage your device with just one wrong step.

Just flash a official FTF, then go to service menu, tests -> configuration and if your bootloader status is:
Unlock allowed: Yes - you can unlock your bootloader
Unlock allowed: No - your bootloader is hard bricked and there's no way to solve this (permanently)
Unlocked - congratulations.
I suppose your bootloader is hardlocked. check for yourself and if anything changes - quote

If you are on a custom rom you just have to flash the custom kernel over it putting the phone in fastboot . No need to unlock bootloader again. Please ensure that the rom supports the custom kernel or there can be bootloops .

I tried to flash many roms with flashtool but nothing change.
You lost network coverage but does it still offer to unlock the sim? And does that succeed?
And just to be sure, you did flash the correct stock ROM your model (C5302/C5303/C5306)?
If your bootloader magically relocked itself then sony pc companion should work (I know it sucks), have you tried repairing your firmware using that?

That is so unusual that you might want to check with fastboot if the bootloader really is locked. You can do that with the following fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot getvar secure
This will return "secure: yes" if the bootloader is really locked.
Anyway, have you tried a generic ROM for your device from this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311964
If you have a north american device (C5306) you might need a provider specific ROM.

Hello,
I just unlocked my bootloader, made a data restore, and everything seems to be fine.
But, when typing *#*#7378423#*#* the service menu does not appears (code is deleted from dialer but no menu). Don't know if it's normal on cm11.
I'd like to check if the bootloader is really unlocked before trying a 5.1.1 rom ... to avoid bad surprise ...
Thanls!
Hmm, the service code should work no matter what ROM your on..
You also van check with flashtool..
Thanks. Do you know what fastboot command to see if BL is unlocked ?
I meant flashmode and a programma flashtool on tour PC. Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43355810

So, what can I do to make sure my bootloader is unlocked?
Only way is too flash a stock rom? no magic command or utility?

Click to collapse
You try to unlock your bootloader. If it is locked then it will unlock otherwise your bootloader is already unlocked.
