[Q] Official car dock and data transfers - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Apologies if this was asked before but I couldn't find an answer.
Does the official car dock allow USB data transfers? In particular, does the provided USB cable have the proper pins for sync / transfer / mount?
Thanks,

any results for it??
OTG adapter fits, but the jump drive doesnt light up, indicating its not being powered, no recognition. but I am sure that there is an OTG chip on the device though. otherwise they would have a standard mini-a usb port.
where can i find an OTG adaptr??
Mine came with a set of usb adapters, for 20$ I can hook anything TO anything!!!
Although google is your best bet.
I also read that the chipset used in this PDA should have support for OTG USB, and that OTG is controlled by 1 pin on the USB connector, and that HTC might
have left it unconnected..
would be possible to connect it and have OTG functionalities?
Otherwise does it exist something like bluetooth hubs which transform usb devices into bluetooth?

isnt this already the adapter you are looking for?!
I didnt know this type of adapter exist for the smal USB for the vogue... but looks like it is compatible for the Vogue
the small usb in the vogue is USB-B, it is a usb client, not a usb host.
You can only plug a USB host into it, like a computer. The thing linked in the OP may have a small usb plug, but that doesn't mean it would work.

[Q] USB Host through stock data cable?

Hi all,
I recently bought a female to female usb adapter hoping to use it along with the original charging/data cable to get USB host on my phone. It doesn't appear to be working. I have tried several peripherals (flash drive, keyboard etc.).
Is the data cable for the Atrix HD physically different from the OTG cable? I had heard that was the case for another device.
Edit: Sorry, I didn't mean to post this in general. Could a mod please move this to Q&A.
Please keep questions to the Q&A section
Sorry, I meant to post this in Q&A. Could a mod please move this. Thanks!
Micro USB plugs actually have 5 pins whereas the standard has 4. So pin 4 (called the ID pin) is left floating on your normal data cable. However, on an otg cable or adapter, pin 4 is shorted to pin 5 (ground) before everything goes to the rest of the cable. When the phone detects the short on the ID pin, it activates the host function.
You can find cheap adapters that short the pins for you or you can modify your own cable by hacking off the housing on the micro side and soldering a jumper between the pins. Also, for accessories to work, you'll likely need a powered USB hub since the phone won't supply the power for them (at least that's the way in my experience).
Hope this helps. Otherwise, let me know if you have more questions. If you google USB host or USB otg, you'll probably find some good stuff.

Thanks a lot! That totally answers my question. I'm just going to buy an OTG cable.

[Q] USB Audio (car usb connector)

I've been searching for a while to solve this.
I'd like to connect my HTC one to my car usb connector.
I've seen several repoirts claiming usb audio works, connecting dac's etcetra.
I know I can connect usb drives with a micro-usb to usb connector, tried it and this works.
But I have also seen people saying you need an USB OTG cable for this, so what is it?
I've already connected my One via the micros-usb to usb cable to my car but I do net get audio via the usb on my car equipment.
So again the question, is audio out available on the htc one (and on other android phones) with the stock rom.
Some of the report where talking about CM roms, I do use the elegancia one but I have no intent of switching to CM.

since the HTC One does not automaticly plug as mass storage i guess that the car radio simply does not recognize the phone as a mass storage with music.. an USB OTG cable would "fix" it since it will force the phone to be shown as mass storage.. (its a guessing anyway)
And you have guessed correctly. The USB otg cable works fine.....except it added ringtones et al when you select root folder. Worked ok if I navigated to the music folder (assuming your vehicle has that option).

Well, for me it does not work.
As I said before I can attach a USB drive to my phone and I can accomplish this by using a micro-usb to usb adapter.
When attaching the drive my phone complains it cannot charge and that I need the standard charger.
But when using a file explorer I can see (read and write) the contents of my usb drive in the storage/usb folder.
I thought this was enough to decide that the converter was OTG but now I'm not so certain about this anymore.
Is every usb to micro usb an OTG or what are the extra requirements?
Anyway I tried again to connect to my car audio and the message I got on the car was
that he could not charge the phone but the phone was as well not recognized as media input.
Because OTG adapters are very cheap I ordered one which explicitly says it is OTG,
I'll see what happens when I can try that one out but in the meantime all comments are welcome.

Yes, the cable I had explicitly said "OTG".
I only experimented with this for fun, my Elantra also supports built in bluetooth (phone controls are on the steering wheel, mic in the roof) so I mainly put my One in my car kit, launch car mode and away I go.
The OTG cable worked well for me when I tried it though. It did NOT work with my Son's Nexus 4 so these things can be finicky.

OTG and Charging DIY cable - success

After a lot of research (credit to this thread), I can report back my experience with the N7100 for OTG and Charging at the same time.
My plan is to use the Note II in car, with audio out via USB, into an external DAC and then into my head unit. I will connect to a powered USB hub to access SD card/external storage as well as an EZCap device for Reverse Camera. A simple OTG cable permits this but there is no charging.
I bought these plugs to make my own cable ends. I created a regular USB micro plug - +ve, GND, Data+, Data- and then soldered a resistor across Pin 4 (ID) and GND. 64.9k triggers both Dock Mode and OTG. I only had a 68k and this worked fine as it's within the upper/lower tolerance range. The DIY kits allow for just enough room to fit a single resistor and is a nice clean fit in the car. The Micro USB connects directly to the powered hub and I spliced in a separate USB A male cable (+ve/GND only) for a spare power supply.
When docked, I use Tasker to run in car app (Google AutoMate), set the state/rotation/display etc; audio automatically routes to USB DAC, external storage is detected, EZcap works, and phone charges. Will need to monitor charge rate vs drain time but overall happy for the small outlay of connectors and a resistor...
Thank you for the great post
This is exactly what I'm trying to make but I did not understand how to make it
could you make a simple Schematic please.
