So I am a crack flasher and sometimes my phone locks up in aroma installer when flashing a ROM. I noticed sometimes when my phone locked, there wasn't a thing I could do to reboot it (holding power button or holding power+volume down). I would actually have to wait for the battery to die....it would piss me off! I finally found a fix for this. If your phone is locked up and won't reboot, put the phone up to a bright light and hold the power+volume down buttons for 8 seconds and poof! Your phone will reboot, just thought I would share this as I found this method VERY useful!

It doesn't work for some. Another option is to connect your phone to a computer and adb reboot

Sometimes it is, trust me...I've gone as far as tying hair ties around the power button so the softkeys blink to help the battery die....and sometimes the adb reboot does work but right now my computer is non functional so it does no good for me

Or, use the volume controls to navigate and power to select. Never freezes using buttons.

Just my :2cents:
Holding down the power button on most, if not all electronics will eventually power it down. It's a safety built into devices that you're unable to remove the battery from.
aside from using the volume and power buttons, boot into fastboot and erase cache before flashing. And waiting a few seconds in between making selections in aroma and after the initial load into aroma installer. I haven't had a single aroma lockup yet.

Was attempting to install busybox through recovery ( from here).
The installer is based on aroma I believe and it froze during install. I see this is a common issue. Regardless, I was going to reattempt the install but I cannot get the phone to reboot. From what I've read, holding the power button for 15+ seconds should do a hard reboot. The capacitive button lights start blinking like they should but no matter how long I hold power, the phone won't reboot.
Do I need to wait for the battery to completely drain or should there be another way to force it out of this state?
Thanks
If it's plugged in unplug it, and make sure you're only holding power and not any other key until it reboots
Keep trying

Thanks. It isn't plugged in. Been trying this for about an hour now, sometimes holding power for over 2 minutes. The lights keep blinking as long as I hold the button. They stop after I release it.
Looks like I'll have to play the waiting game

Yep. Just checked on the person from yesterday and after it died he was able to get into recovery and then fix it. So it's something weird
Here is the thread not much info though but he had to let it die
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2247888
Also it resets around the 15 blink of the capacitive buttons so if it's blinking 30 times something is not right wait for it to die

Thanks for the link, didn't spot that one. I guess I'm having the same issue. I don't mind having a non-removable battery but it's unfortunate in this case. The screen is staying on so I hope the battery runs out earlier rather than later.
Try to push the Button several times and then hold it, or hold Power +vlm down ans release ans push vol again.. helped me many times i think... dont give up..
I tried just about every combination but nothing worked. On a positive note, the battery died and I was able to boot normally once again. No issues since.

Well, another one to add. Stuck in Aroma, and Hard combinations doesn't work. TRIED ALL OF THEM.
Was stressing over, plugged the phone in, launched the ALL-IN-ONE, clicked the reboot command.
I thought the Hard button combination was hardware : that is now proven wrong. Ugh.

I know it sounds weird, but there's reports that shining at light at the sensors and/or working in a very bright room seems to help with the soft reset procedure. I have no idea why and it sounded like coincidence to me, but what do you have to lose? lol
I also faced the hanging aroma problem and holdon the power button for a long period of time (15 seconds) worjed for me the firs time i tried, the second time it bad some problems, but i kept pressing the power button.for 15 seconds and it finally turned off.
Hoep this helps.

Not holding it long enough then. That's "battery pull" button combination. It can literally take 10-20 seconds. The buttons flashing is a good sign.

Huh, it's always worked without fail for me.
Congrats then, you get to wait until your battery dies.
try just holding power until screen goes off then volume down until in bootloader. may take a while but it works ive been in far worse situations with this phone but it always comes back. starting to think this phone is really hard to brick. all in one toolkit is a lifesaver if your not using it you should be. if you have a problem getting into recovery use it and if recovery starts then reboots or closes back to bootloader erase cache with all in one toolkit the boot to recovery
Define a while. Ive held the button down while lights flashed 200 times. It won't turn off.

where are you stuck at? download all in one toolkit and see if that has something that will help you. it saved me a bunch of times already. if the phone turns on or is on your okay. its just frustrating sometimes when you think you might have ruined a $600 device but as long as its on your ok no need to stress

If you've held the buttons for around 40 seconds you are going to just have to wait for the battery to die happened to another person. One other thing count the flashes after 20 release and then hold again and it should reset at 15 flashes if not then you are going to have to wait for the battery to die. Good news is after that the other person was able to get back to recovery and didn't have the problem again.
still nothing. Hope it drains down completely over night. I need to be able to get the thing up and running tomorrow
As an Evo owner I was shocked to hear the correct procedure for that phone was pwr + VOL UP AND VOL DOWN yes all three at the same time. I assumed vol up and vol down could not both be selected at the same time because they were on a rocker switch where, if one side is low, the other must be high. But it turns out you could do both. Is the HTC One like this?

back up and running. battery finally died. Flashed stock boot.img after a recharge and all is well.
I'm swearing off of aroma installers from here on out.
Had the same problem also today. But I did not give up to try pressing power + vol down. After several attempts the phone finally restarted.
You're more patient than me I guess. I worked at it for more than an hour and a half.
Just recently flashed trickdroid, got through the entire install then it froze after it was complete. My device says it has been installed and ready for use but hitting next does nothing.....tried holding power with power down and up (just for fun), phone still will not reboot...any suggestions would be helpful... dont really want to wait for my phone to die to use again, was sitting at 80%..

If it was complete then all you need to do is reboot. Hold the power button for 10 seconds, if that doesn't work hold the power button with volume down and boot in to recovery. Also no need to open a thread for it, just ask in the trickdroid thread :highfive:

That's not a joke, presumably HTC put something like a safety so your phone doesn't turn off in your pocket. So in a dim room the hold power button to restart the phone might not work, hence the bright light trick

Looks like my m8 is soft bricked. Everything was fine, rooted, romd, s-off all went smooth. Then I installed xposed and my phone refuses to boot, even when i try to put it into recovery it bugs out and turns off. I suspect an Ruu could fix but we dont have one yet. As a warning to everyone, stay away from exposed for now.
Once xposed is installed, it creates a zip on your internal sd to disable xposed. Flash it.

well...this kinda ruined my night yesterday...I went to a concert yesterday around 8 and my phone had 70% and I was checking facebook or something like that and without no notification or warning it froze and turned off on me. I figured it was a normal freeze..and I attempted to turn it back on and nothing happened. Went to my car to try to charge it and nothing. Not even a charging light. A day has passed after the concert was over (could not take pictures, thanks htc..) and now the "dead battery symbol" comes up and the orange light keeps BLINKING..to my understanding it means that it is not charging? What could it be..anybody could help me out .maybe a soft reset? no charging it for a couple of minutes?
Anything would help. Thanks..:crying:

Mine froze up on me last week during a power cycle. I had to hold the power button about 2 mins (if not longer) before it finally responded and rebooted. I was getting my coat to take it back to the store, holding the power button the entire time, then bang, the white screen with the HTC logo finally appeared.
